My mother's family hails from Kalmar land, Sweden, though Grandpa was about 11 when he and his family immigrated to the United States. My grandmother and her family came over a little before Grandpa's and I'm not sure what part of Sweden they come from.

Does that count?? :|

Morning!

My Mother is 100% Swede, but unfortunately I do not know where her family hails from. :)

My Father though, is basically a mutt.

Canor - my girlfriend is Swedish. We'll be in Sweden in May next year. We were going for Christmas, but her mama is coming here instead. We'll be staying Kungsbacka with trips to Gotenburg and possibly Stockholm.

vi ses!

My Grandfather moved to Canada from Sweden after the war, he had met my Grandmother during the war and she was from here.

I have sadly lost touch with that side of the family after my grandparents passed away. We used to have a lot of visitors from Sweden when I was younger.

Our last name was Noren, I have since changed mine due to marriage and then never went back to it because I didn't want my biological father to have any connection to me.

Our family had done a family tree back to the 1700's in Sweden, I only got to see it once.

I have always wanted to visit Sweden just to see where I come from.

Anyway, long story short... I have ties to Sweden but have never been.

My father's people come from Sweden, my mother's from Finnland. Both grew up in isolated Scandinavian communities near the Canadian border.

One of my favorite memories of my father came about while visiting family, near where he grew up. It was summertime and we were staying in a cabin by a lake. One afternoon a huge thunderstorm rolled in. People scurried around with a hint of fear, battening down belongings and ducking inside cabins for protection. Except for my father. He took off his shirt and went running through the woods. Rain falling, lightning striking, thunder rolling. He embraced the storm without fear. Giving himself to it as he ran through the woods.

When he came back he had this wild and free look in his eyes. As a child, I was so impressed with him at that moment. As I have aged I came to see it as part of our Viking blood. We come from fierce people.

I am quite intrigued with the rise of Viking culture in Europe. Anyone else?
