View Full Version : Curious: Anthology Anyone?

Medusa

Hey,

I'm curious. I've been wanting to put together an anthology for a long while now. Something centered on the art produced by our community. Maybe a book with poetry, writing, essay, and photos of art.

Would anyone be interested in something like that?
I've done some preliminary research and think we can get it published and distributed in an ethical way. Thoughts on interest?
Would you submit to something like that?
Would you buy something like that?

Speak up!

I'd write for ya, Dusa--what kind of topics would you like? Would it have a specifically queer theme, or just a creative theme?

Queer Creative! I'd love to see pieces on the muse process, the process of creating, and actual creative writing pieces of fiction, non-fiction, etc.
Poetry, smut, etc.
I love it all :)

Those are beautiful images, Corkey! I think they would make a great addition to the photography section of our anthology!

You know that I'd submit.

Im brand new to the editing process but I have put together lots of works. I was thinking that we can have folks submit their work, lay it out, edits, order it, and send it on to publishing. Homofactus looks like a good option but not sure of the costs. They appear to be ethical and I have really loved some of the other works they have done.

Im completely open to any help or suggestions and want to turn out a high quality product, so if you got ideas...bring em' on!

I personally would like to see something focused on art (as much as can be contained on paper). Fiction, poetry, memoir, non-fiction, musings on the process of creating art, the intersections of queer and art, photos of us at work, photos of our work, drawings, charcoals, photographs, collage. I want to see it all.

I think we have an incredible amount of talent here and its about damn time we showcased it.

I'm in, don't know if my poetry is good enough, but you're welcome to whatever I've written here or elsewhere.
Anything else I can offer up, is yours for the asking.

In answer to your other question, yes I would buy something like that.
It would be a forever keepsake of those I hold near and dear.

I'm excited about all of the enthusiasm and can't wait to see what folks do!

Well, it's official. I think we have enough interest to put something together so you all better get started writing or editing pieces you have already written! We'll figure out more details as we go along!

I'm interested in submitting some writing, too. What about photos of people--I mean couples or individuals who are butch/femme/queer--whatever? Maybe a photo with a brief description would be compelling. People like to see the faces that represent the story. Great idea!

Oooh, inspiration! Corkey, I loved your picture, Reflections of Spring.

Are we coming, or going?
Odd how beginnings can look so much like endings
Reflecting the old as if it were new
Or the new as if it were unchanged
The bare branches of Autumn, leaf-shed
Still bare in Spring
Yet see this: the sky is different
Softer with promise of green days to come
The water reflects
Cloud light
The coming of life

This caught my eye. Do you mean edit new pieces that someone may have started when they saw this thread or any piece that we've written already (published aka posted online)? I assumed it was for unpublished work only.

I am also interested in submitting (You've been waiting YEARS to hear me say THAT). I have a few pieces that have been published elsewhere, however, I'm thinking a funny, retrospective piece on my evolution as a femme.

We want (preferably) unpublished work, mainly because of copyright issues, but we will definitely consider works that have been previously published in chapbooks or self-published.

When I was thinking of already written works, I was thinking of people who may have posted their writings on personal sites (like Daywalker!) or blogs and want to polish them up for a shiny new entrance into the world.

I think this can be AMAZING.

Is there any issue with using material that was posted on other forums--like another poetry thread that has original work? I have a lot of significant pieces that came out of one of Arwen's 9 Word poetry threads, but not on this site.

No issues with that at all! I think that if you wrote it, you own it. (even on another forum) :)

I would love to be a part of such a book.

I would love to write some stuff for it.
I also think once done that would be a great thing to offer in stonewall centers and gay pride and all sorts of places and the moneys to come back for funds for the Planet and functions you create...Just an idea.

I would be willing to help with that as well...Just an offer.

what, exactly, is the process for submitting work? is it problematic to submit pieces in different mediums? (i.e. writing and photography)

also, is there a deadline or cap on number of pieces submitted?

Admin
04-22-2010, 02:19 PM
We're kinda in the very beginning stages of researching the how's and what's.

Our submission process will be a private process whereby folks interested can email their submissions to us. Haven't really decided yet if we will do only x number of works by each artist or what but I imagine that it would be nice to have a few works by each artist to give a more clear picture of what their work is about.
I would also LOVE to see some Bio's on the artist at the beginning of their sectionl; something talking about how being Queer affects their work (or not) and their views on art, etc.

Once we figure out what we need to do to actually get it published, we will try to have a long-ish deadline in case people want to create works of art specifically for the book.

Will keep you all updated :)
