I'm 2 hours away, but am originally from the big apple, so I like to keep abreast of what's going on over there. Haven't been to the city for a couple of years, and would like to soon now that the winter's over.

Anything interesting going on that doesn't entail a gazillion dollars?

Ditto on the weather. After it being so nice it's kind of hard to adjust to!

We are going to see Lily Tomlin and Kate Clinton perform in Staten Island tonite.

Yeah, I meant for this thread to include areas near New York too but it was too late to edit.

I like to hang out in Central Park and have picnics :)

If you have not been to the High Line that is a new area to walk that is pretty nifty: http://www.thehighline.org/

Then there are always street fairs, so much fun for cheap shopping, cheap yummy eating, and great people watching and music listening on a good day: http://www.nycstreetfairs.com/sched.html

Tues April 27 Sarah Sarai & Adrienne Baldassano at Women’s & Trans’ Poetry Jam -Bluestockings
Women’s & Trans’ Poetry Jam & Open Mike

Tuesday April 27th 7PM – 9PM

Feature Writers: Sarah Sarai & Adrienne Baldassano

Sarah Sarai’s poems are charged with the terrible presence of the now and the dangerous fact of words. This is poetry as it should be. Scary, strange, generous, intensely in a physical world while illuminating an unimaginable spiritual world. This is writing that sings. The song it sings is the song of our hearts.

Adrienne Baldassano has, all too often, found hirself caught between male and female. Through hir poetry, ze seeks to find and define a space for all those who do not fit into binary oppositions, be it male/female, up/down, or past/future.

kitten anyone?

just found an adorable black kitten, maybe 7 weeks old taped up inside a box on the street. Seems healthy and happy, ate some food - taking her to the vet to be checked out at 4.

I would love to keep her myself, but i have 5 cats already, plus we're in the middle of a bathroom renovation so its too chaotic here.

Adopt this beautiful baby!

I will ask around. I am a cat lover but don't have the room with my own either. Thank you for saving this kitten!

I think it's too late, I'm in love. Her name is now Morgan Le Fay.

Vet says she looks good - 6 weeks old. gave her both flea and deworming meds and I have to bring her back in a couple weeks for tests/shots.

I guess we're keeping her. what's a 6th cat, they're small. :)

Hey, I'm planning to go retro with my kitchen and bathroom. Think 50's diner for kitchen countertops, pin-up girl wall art in the bathroom. Do any of you guys know people who have had such retro-vations?

I can now definitively state that I am moving back home, enough of this nonsense.

But, I have decided that I will continue to say, "I reckon" in my straight-up yank accent, just to jack with people.

Maybe I'll see some of you around the city.

It is hot, hot and hotter than hell, but it is New York, I am on vacation for the next two months, and I LOVE IT! Thinking of going to see the Picasso exhibit at the Met this week (more than 300 pieces to admire)!

This thread is a great idea!

I've been to that Picasso exhibit at the Met - well worth it. Covers all his styles including an entire room of his erotic drawing series (not for kids )
Its a pretty amazing collection.

I just wanted to find a place to plug the Alexander McQueen retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The fashion is amazing, the presentation, lighting, video everything - breathtaking.

Seriously, even if you're not a big fashion person, go. just go. It's just awesome.

Hi, everyone,

My friend Alice is someone who works to place cats in permanent homes. Cats with a less conventional gender presentation are, like us, more at risk for being mistreated. Thus she asked if I'd post at our site, as she wants to maximize the chances that this cat finds a loving, empathic forever home.

Jennifer

See ad written by Alice below:

"INTERSEX CAT SEEKS WELCOMING HOME

Our differences make the world go round! My name is Bowie (yup, like David Bowie!) and I was rescued from the mean streets of Brooklyn this past April. When I went to be spayed the vet discovered I am a happy and healthy intersex kitty.

My anatomy includes a uterus, penis, undescended testicles, vagina, cute pink nose, loving eyes, adorable whiskers, a gorgeous set of chops, big lovable paws, and luxurious black and white fur that's nonstop! I am large and in charge at 14 beautiful pounds, and I'm one of the most sweet-natured, easygoing tuxedo kitties you will ever meet!

I would love to live in a home with at least 1 other cat, because I'm used to being around other cats, and I miss them! And since I am a self-sufficient type, I do not demand a lot of attention, but gladly accept it when offered. I won't be a lot of extra work, I promise.

In fact I'm still a little reserved with people, after spending the whole winter outside as a stray. But now, I'm inside and safe, and my foster dad has been bringing me out of my shell with scratches on the head and pets, which I LOVE. He just has to make the first move, and then I'm 100% mush! Then I follow him around a little bit, and we enjoy each other's company.

What makes me so great is that when you want my attention you can have it, but when you'd rather be left alone, I can do that too. I am a very mellow, easygoing cat. Would you give me a chance?"

If interested, please PM me or email the cat rescuer (my friend, Alice) directly at: alicealice5566@gmail.com

Hello NY!!! For short I will call myself NYC Cat and for those of you old enough to recall I was BklynFem on FB.com wayyyy back when, and a wrangler on FABU EAST when there were email lists.

I am a NYC area fifty something femme, sane and funny. I spend my free time rescuing and fostering cats -- so if you are looking for a great cat to adopt -- look me up!

I am newly single and looking for folks to chat with, catch a movie, and have a bite ( I am a vegetarian with vegan leanings). '

Looking forward to spending some time on the planet!
