i use a lot of metaphors when talking about life with my kids ... one of the most commonly used is this:
if you find the milk is spoiled, quit trying to drink it! get rid of it! then, when you can stand the thought of drinking milk again without gagging, get some new milk and try again.
so ... with full awareness that sometimes the milk was absolutely certain that *i* was the one gone bad, i'm optimistically trying again.
