Do You have interesting cocktail recipes?

That's the purpose of this thread.....or maybe some obscure beer or wine or liqueur that You'd like to suggest (and a description would be great!).....

In other words, this isn't a thread for how you got your drunk on.

I'll begin.....

I went to Spec's the other day (a really lovely liquore store which has wines/beer/liquors and everything to go with ~ i.e. cigars, glassware, cheeses, et al) and there was a rep there from Treaty Oak Rum (Treaty Oak is a landmark here in Austin).

She made an incredible drink with JALAPENOS! I was there! And I don't care for rum AT ALL. This rum is very light and smooth.....not too sweet at all!

So she wrote the recipe down for me and here it is:

JalaTini

In a shaker add:
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. Agave Nectar-Light

Add ice & shake well.

Add 1 sliced jalapeno
2 oz Treaty Oak Rum
2-4 oz Club Soda

Shake whatcher mama gave ya.

Pour into a martini glass and enjoy! It's a nice, slow burn! YUM!

Cotton Candy Martini

Ingredients

* 1 tablespoon of cola
* 1 teaspoon of Grenadine

* Pour all of your ingredients into a martini shaker 1/2 of cracked ice
* Drop in the chunk of cotton candy...it will dissolve
* Lid the shaker and shake like mad for a full minute
* Strain your delicious martini into 2 chilly, sugar rimmed martini glasses
* Float a piece of cotton on each cocktail
* Enjoy!

Great idea for a thread. We will have to get my favorite bartender, Mel, in here.

I'm a fan of Lemon Drops and they are super easy to make even if you don't have the mixer.

1/2 oz vodka (http://www.drinksmixer.com/desc28.html)
1/2 oz lemon juice (http://www.drinksmixer.com/desc70.html)
1 sugar (http://www.drinksmixer.com/desc605.html) cube

Add sugar to the rim of an old-fashioned glass, and drop a cube or packet of sugar into the bottom of the glass. Pour vodka and lemon juice into a stainless steel shaker over ice, and shake until completely cold. Pour into the prepared old-fashioned glass, and serve.

Hey Diva and all, I recently started reading up on some older or vintage cocktails. I made this one over the weekend. It's not overly sweet but you can up the sugar if you'd like. This was invented at the Russian Tea Room in NYC in the 1930's for the Russian ballerinas that frequented the bar. It's pretty nice on a hot summer night (or hot spring night if you live in the desert).

http://www.mydailyfind.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/RussianSpringPunch270.jpg

How to make:

2 oz Vodka (I used Ketel One but apretty prefers the pricey Chopin)
1/2 oz Crème De Cassis
1/2 oz Full Bodied Jamamacan Rum
1/2 to 2 Teaspoons Super Fine Sugar
1/2 oz Fresh Squeeed Lemon Juice

Combine the sugar and the lemon juice in a cocktail shaker and shake until sugar is dissolved. Add the remaining ingredients and ice. Shake up and pour into a sugar rimmed glass with more ice. I garnished mine with a large spiral of orange peel. Drink and enjoy! Cheers!

http://www.beerliquors.com/images/spirits/damiana.jpg

Guaycura Liqueur de Damiana is a light herbal based liqueur from Mexico. It is made from the wild herb damiana (Turnera diffusa) which is native to Mexico and Central America. Damiana is a small shrub with smooth, pale green oval leaves and aromatic yellow flowers. This herb is long thought to have aphrodisiac properties and according to ancient legend Guaycura Indians drank Damiana Liqueur in their centuries old ceremonies. Though sceptics may dismiss this as myth, there are respected botanists that say damiana "stimulates the genito-urinary tract and is actually used in the treatment of sexual problems such as impotence, frigidity, sterility, and sexual exhaustion." The glass bottle is shaped in the likeness of a pregnant woman and said to be modeled after the Incan God of Fertility.

This liqueur is commonly used in place of Triple Sec to make the "Baja Margarita," served in resort areas all over the Mexican peninsula.

Original Margarita Recipe:
1 oz. Damiana Liqueur
1 1/4 oz. White Tequila
2 oz. Margarita Mix
Shake or blend with ice.
Damiana has great mixability and tastes great as a shooter

Pashi! That's so funny that you mention Damiana. It is one of my all-time favorite liquers. I generally have a bottle in the freezer.

Here's a drink that I made up while sitting around a campfire at a pagan festival in Colorado. We were literally passing bottles around. I had a sip of Hot Damn Schnapps and then a sip of Damiana. The combination was WOW.

So I said something and others tried it. We came up with this.

Hot Damn Mama

1/2 oz Damiana
1/2 oz Hot Damn Schnapps (or other cinnamon-flavored schnapps)

Mix and drink.

An alternative to this that Mel aka BlistexLez came up with is this.

Damn, Hot Sexy Mama

1/2 oz Damiana
1/2 oz Hot Damn Schnapps (or other cinnamon-flavored schnapps)
Sour Mixer
Ice

Shake all ingredients and pour over ice.

I made up the name for the 2nd one just now because I couldn't remember what we called it. It was part of a Sunday morning at a SoCal house party. We may have been drinking before then. heh:chef:

Champagne cocktail....
Place a sugar cube in a glass, fill it with champagne, add a few drops of angostura bitters.
that is all
It really tastes better with those 2 extra ingredients.

1 sprig fresh basil, plus extra for garnish
1-ounce grappa
2 ounces limoncello

In a blender place:

3 ice cubes
4 shots Vodka (I don't measure, so this is an estimate)
fill blender to 2/3 with orange juice
splash of Galliano (tip the bottle once, quickly)
1 TBLSP powdered sugar
A swirl of heavy cream

blend until ice cubes dissolved. add a sprig of mint to the glass for eye candy. Ok, it's not exact, but it works, believe me. It tastes a little like an Orange Julius, but you'll be dreaming if you drink it like one!

Rhubarb Martini for me. Made the usual way except use the juice of stewed rhubarb - with no/little sugar in the stewing process to ensure that lovely tartness - instead of lime. Sans salt. Delish

Well mostly local breweries.......we have bunch around here. I'm not much into the hoppy bitter tasting beers. I like a nice smooth lager. As far as beers go. And I like citrus notes in my beer on occasion as well.

Hello Jedi,

I seem to remember a beer thread, and a few members here used to post in it, quite a bit. It was OkieBug's beer thread, I think:

http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5166

My hometown (Rip City -- Trail Blazer's, River City --- we got two big rivers, BridgeTown -- we're known for our bridges) has quite a few micro-breweries; but also, we've had several home town breweries recently close since last fall (Alameda Brewery, to name one). Why, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing changes in property taxes or annual lease agreements or simply someone in family owned business dies, then the family just decides to close the doors and move on??? Not sure, really.

When I was younger, I always looked forward to having a beer on a really hot summer day. I'm not much of a beer drinker, so we're talking maybe one or two beers during any given hot summer. *lol*

I had a beer once, that is a favorite out on the East coast... I forget the name of it, but it's a Lemon Shandy, I think. Pretty nice to have on a hot summer evening. :)

I hope OkieBug's beer thread is the beer thread you were thinking of. If not, you should start a new forum thread and if you do? Tell us a tiny bit about your past bartending career and the types of drinks that were most requested or even a favorite drink you thought was pretty special.

Cheers,

I will check out that beer thread after I respond to you. I bartended for a little hole in the wall gay bar in Denver, CO. I opened the bar a couple days a week then did Saturday nights. The most requested drink was a Jose float. It's Cactus Juice (margarita flavored schnapps) with Jose Cuervo floated on top. Usually served as a shot. One of my faves to make at home now are frozen Pina Coladas. I use the Bacardi frozen mix you can find in the grocery store with the frozen juices. You just add rum and ice. I tend to pour a bit heavy when I make these but they go down so easily. Also, I had a fave premium well drink I liked to make......Jedi's White Russian......now when I make them at home I use different stuff but the bar had a bunch of Skyy vodkas. I have since learned Skyy vodka is up there with Chick-fil-A and Barilla pasta for being anti-gay. But.......I would use the Skyy Vanilla (it smells like cake icing and has a sweet vanilla taste) and Kahlua and heavy cream and shake that sucker like crazy. Now my specialty were my Jedi Kamikazees. I would leave out the triple sec though and just add more vodka. Now i would cut up a bunch of limes and depending on how many shot were being made, I would mix the ice, vodka, sour mix and rose's sweeetened lime juice. I would squeeze a piece of lime in for each shot and throw the limes in the shaker for good measure. Strain into shot glasses and squeeze a lime into each shot glass. They are very tart but boy are they good. At one point, there was a restaurant too. I make a mean cherry coke. In Denver, my gf had kids, her youngest lived with us and was having troubles so I used to take her with me at times to help set up the restaurant side of everything. But I would make the cherry cokes for her.
I wasn't much of a Martini Bartender. I'm not all high brow behind the bar.
