~A Forelock Falls~


a forelock falls over an azure eye
masking his gaze
in a trance
he stares off into the distance
as though
measuring her image
he dives
weightless
into the reverie

ahh...yes

he stretches lithe limbs
his leg draped
over the curved arm of the sofa
and slowly he draws a finger
along the silk
lazily tracing lines of cobalt blue
and nestles his face deeper into the sweet luxury

ohh...yes

with a secret smile
his eyes close
and
he drifts
his breath slow and easy
softer than a whisper
a sigh escapes
floats up
to meet the light
shafts of gold pour down
through old leaded windows
dissolving in the velvet afternoon

and

now...

now...

yes

she is there
like a secret wish
a fragile hope
a promise he might not be able to keep
poised
on the edge of his desire

ahhh
the muses cry
songs murmur across the water

ardor
thrust
under caravans
and racing wheels
secret shadows
hidden in the tempest
wild beasts thunder
over the ebony abyss
into a blind storm
oblivion’s willing castaway
stolen by a boundless night
where wild plumes
sway like flame's ballet
cast the light
catch a glimpse
overhear
a song of whispers
remnants of splendor’s sigh
sacred sonnets
descending
a celestial dome
where virgin eyes
send him swooning
luminous nymphs
wrap garlands
like a pirouette
around his cloistered heart
his tender reach
opening a palm
whispered supplication
towards radiance
laboring under a spell
his secret bliss
the scent of enchanted mist
his breath spilling
sweet tides rising
promises surrendered
desire's slave in mourning
to die each night
in the arms of sleep
to lie cradled
in the tender embrace
of forgiven dreams

To be a knight
of infinite resignation
or of faith sublime
dancing
transcending
the ascent and fall
the impossible
possible
and effortless
the elegance
a disguise
a bargain
between surrender divine
and absolution
unwilling to admit
or commit
but a hostage anyway
inhabiting the space
outside looking in
and inside gazing out
the bell jar
cloistering exquisite torment
pressed against the glass
palms printing an urgent silhouette
to beguile and distract
consoling the child's belief
that if his eyes upon her
somehow, she will not see
lies he tells himself
he risks it all
with wild and innocent abandon
and still
covets the shelter
the fragile hope
that he might torment her enough
she will offer the coup de grace
and deliver him
instead
she demurs
with the cruelest cut
of tender mercy
were she instead to cry and beg
Yes, yes, you must!
he would surrender all
tormented and free
the knight of infinity
