Hey all!
Hope everyone is having a great week! If anyone is interested in doing some photography I am meeting StrongButch at Sweetwater Creek State Park (Lithia Springs area) on Saturday afternoon, weather permitting. There are the ruins of an old civil war era textile mill that is usually fenced off but this weekend the park ranger is going to open the gates so folks can go inside to take pics, etc. It sits up against the river so there are some neat angles to play with and tons of nature and water shots if you are so inclined. PM me if you are interested in meeting up and I'll send you the details. Any camera and any skill level welcome!

Too bad you can't make it this time but hope you have an awesome weekend! There are so many neat places to shoot in Ga. that if folks are interested we could all start posting places we plan to be in the event others want to join in. I always appreciate company when I go out...not only safety reasons but I learn a lot more in discussions re: lighting, angle, etc. StrongButch was right, any camera or even cell phone would work and any experience level is welcome as I am a total amateur myself!
That said, I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend ahead. Weather should be beautiful so make the most of these fall days!

I've got Georgia on my mind. I would at some point in the near future, like to visit Stone Mountain and see the laser light show, and I haven't been to the Aquarium either and I'd like to go there.

Would love to have gotten together but tonight is Cirque and all day Sat. and Sun. I will be at a (ready? wait for it, waaaiiittt for it...) the Cotton States Cat Show. (insert ugh! here). Yup...two days of cats. All cats all the time. Jealous much? Yeah, didn't think so!! LoL! (but, there are some lovely kitties from the shelter up for adoption that we will have a the show).
Otherwise, ya'll have fun Sunday!!
If/when Blade comes to town it would be fun to all meet up. The Ga. Aquarium is really well done. The beluga whales are my favorite.

Since it's gotten colder, the bunny's nose, feet and ears have darkened...which is kind of odd, since it's clearly albino (its eyes are pink), so I didn't think dark fur was an option.
At any rate, it's doing great. It has come right up to me a couple of times, once even rubbing its chin on my finger (I found out later that's called "chinning", and it's the way rabbits leave their scent, similar to how cats mark you by rubbing the side of their faces on you).
I discovered that bunnies and chihuahuas don't share the back yard too well, but considering the bunny is bigger, he had the advantage. Still, he didn't like being chased, and when he fled the back yard, so did the chihuahua. Ooops.
I started to panic, envisioning this bunny hauling ass down the street, with the dog right behind him. But the damnedest thing happened: he didn't leave my front yard- he kept circling in my front yard, just out of reach of the dog. I'm calling for the dog, to no avail, wondering how on earth I'm going to catch the dog even if the bunny stays in my yard, when the bunny hops right up to me and STOPS, giving me time to scoop up the dog. I swear that rabbit was telling me, "could you PLEASE do something about this?!"
I'm a little in awe of this bunny. There's something a little magical about living in a neighborhood where we all share a pet bunny who drops by to visit.

JD,
Thanks so much for posting this! I was wondering with cooler weather how the little fella was getting along. Too cute and apparently very smart!
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Gorgeous weather this weekend and I am determined to get those 300 tulip bulbs in the ground *today* followed by 6 flats of pansies (why, why did I put so many in my cart???) :seeingstars:
Enjoy the day ya'll!!

JD... that is funnier than hell...I have been wondering about that bunny rabbit.
Wow, he/she is the neighborhood rabbit? I wonder what it's name is? I wonder if it has a home? Dang that is too much... Does it snow in Georgia? What about the winter time?
Katniss...i was thinkin' about that cop...and the tachometer...he was really being a smartass cause...
what he was refering to was how high the rpms were measured compaired to the speed. (You know, the tach measures the rotation of the engine per minute so, that is going to be really high.)
So, when you look down at the instrument cluster of the car...if you were to be measuring your speed by the tachometer....rotations per minute of the engine (rpms)... instead of the speed of your traveling car (miles per hour) that would be a helleva lot higher number than the tachometer Numbers that are shown...ie...the basic numbers...the big 2, 3, 4, 5 etc...The number 2 on the tach = 2k per minute...
Basically, i believe the two variables are linear and logarithmic...but the tach speed, of the engine, is exponentially higher compared to the miles per hour of the taveling car.
so, that smartass was basically saying oh...so what were you doin' lookin at the wrong circle on the instrument cluster? and measuring your speed by that....what a ***kin' asshole...
what an asshole

Ok...I read what you wrote 3 times and...:seeingstars: I still don't understand. But...I will totally cop to breaking the law (<--cop, get it? Like how I did that? LoL) but have to say the $198 ticket plus the $200 tacked on top of that for being a "super speeder"...well, that was an expensive day. I could have flown somewhere for that kind of money. But, my fault so I won't fuss about it.
Katniss~~(wanting to be an Indy Car driver in my next life)
Well, what i wrote was confusing and it was hard to explain.
Sorry i made your head spin...mine did too.
There is more to it. A lot more.
So, when you look down at the instrument cluster of the car...
the tachometer is obviously on the left.
When going a certain speed the tachometer correlates with
the speedometer and rises as the speed does accordingly.
That cop was basically accusing you (he did ask though, smartass)
of watching the tachometer numbers and using it's numbers,
as though it was the speedometer to verify(or keep in check) your speed.
and if so....that would be really fast! If the tach is at number 4
you would be going faster ie...than 40 miles an hour.
Highway driving.

I'll save you the trouble...I was going 88 mph in a 65 mph zone. The "base" fine was $148 but then they tacked some other stuff on to it for a $198 total then added the $200 "super' fee. The reason I got off so cheap (said the judge) is because I am a "first time offender."
As to Indy...I have been to the Indy 500 six times as we used to live in Indy when I was in high school. I remember going out and watching the time trials when they were running after school let out. That was back in the "old days" when none of the "juniors" ran. It was Al Unser Sr., Mario Andretti, Bobby Rahal, etc. I actually won 1st place in the "Powderpuff Derby" racing my friend's Firebird (with mods.) back in Freshman year at college at the fairgrounds.
Of course now in Ga. it is all NASCAR all the time and you gotta' go to Talladega at least once. I've also been to monster truck events...yeah, my little red dirt girl background is showing now so I'll just "hush up."

Think I'll pass on running a stop sign. I was ticketed for that once in small town Mississippi (I did NOT do it for the record). The police were pulling over any car with an out of state plate as we ramped off the interstate. Total scam. I admit when I am in the wrong but that was a dirty set-up. Hate to say that as I so respect the community service workers (police, fire, rescue, etc.) and think they deserve more pay.
As to bunnies....check with JD...maybe his "white rabbit" needs some friends....

Thanks for the bunny update and he/she is SO adorable!!! I can't get over how it doesn't seem to even leave the yard. I guess the bunny is too big to be prey for a hawk, etc.? Last night I heard then saw a really large Great Horned Owl. Amazing sight and I hope the bunny stays safe.

They are Georgia Girls so play here often. It was really nice with the symphony as the back up. They tour outside the U.S. so you never know if they might head your way!
On another note....why yes, it is getting to be a lot like winter in Ga. The cat has been glued to the heating duct all afternoon. Also giving me the "just because you leave for work does not mean that the heat needs to go down you inconsiderate heifer" look.
JD...how is the "almost white rabbit"? Is it warm? Is it safe? Inquiring minds want to know.....

I saw the bunny this morning- he was huddled up under the gardenia bush next to my driveway, looking a bit cold (so did the gardenia bush, come to think. Maybe they were keeping each other warm). Anyway, his fur looks thicker- he's been working on his winter coat.
I worked in my back yard for a few hours on Sunday- the dog was out there with me for an hour...and not 5 minutes after I put the dog in, the bunny appeared... I said hello, and he ran up to me...I'm talking CHARGED me. He stopped RIGHT before crashing into me. I was actually so startled I took a step back! He sniffed my shoe and made cute faces, so I obligingly went in to get some dried banana slices for him. I think I just made sure that I will get startled by a charging rabbit again.
I'm no longer worried about him getting enough to eat (I leave a handful of timothy hay or greens for him every few days, just in case...and so does every other neighbor, most likely)... and he certainly seems to be holding his own against the neighborhood cats. But I do worry about him with winter coming. :(

Wow, this takes me back! Going to see them every week at the Little Five Points Pub was a big part of my early to mid twenties. And I didn't even realize they were playing this weekend. :(
In my past life (20+ years ago), I was a rock star. Quit laughing, I'm serious! I had the good fortune of working with the Indigo Girls professionally, but mostly I played my own songs in various bands (Ellen James Society, Viva La Diva) touring and making records, uh, I mean CDs...I played in every dive bar in the Southeast, trying to make it to the banquet table in a feast-or-famine profession.
Then I hit my mid 30s, and 401Ks and health insurance started looking a hell of a lot better than crowding into a van and sleeping on the sound guy's crumb-covered carpet, so I bailed out on the music thing. Still, I'm glad that I tried to take it as far as I could... I'll die with one less regret...lol. Besides, it's always fun to see the look on the faces of my present-day friends and coworkers when I mention that I've played bass on a Grammy nominated CD! :D

I have a bunny observation and question. I noticed today after being charged (yep, it's happened 3 times now, it's how he greets me) that the bunny appears to be getting a double chin. I thought maybe it was thicker hair around the neck, but no, it really seems to be a distinct skin roll.
So I read up on it, and learned that he may be a she. Female rabbits store their fat under their chin- a dewlap. It's not nearly as pronounced as the pictures on google, so maybe it's the start of one?
I also learned that overweight males get dewlaps....and lord knows this rabbit is not hurting for food. His exercise consists of hopping from yard to yard taking the carrots, cabbage and berries that have been left out for him.
Katniss? DMW? Do I need to cut back on my raspberry offerings? Not that I can do much about the rest of the neighborhood... Is this ironic or what??? The poor tame house rabbit that is left to fend for himself outdoors, and the worst thing that happens to him is....obesity???

What we need here is a rabbit whisperer. Otherwise my vote is "he" is a "she" which means.....you have a new girlfriend. Female rabbits often charge around like that when their little hormones start kicking in. And yes, I am totally lmao at the thought of you running indoors because you were being charged at by a randy rabbit! But...research shows...the way to stop her from charging is (waaaiiit for it)...to take away her credit card.

Ha! JD...I love this! Too bunny! Whoops, I mean "funny!"
Deb...laughing about Sunny and Cher!
My friends have two cats..named "Poly" and "Esther."
The closest I got to a cool pairing were two fish named "Scarlet O'Herring" and "Rhett Bubbler."
Hope everyone had a safe evening with the storms. I darn near hydroplaned off the road and I was only going 25 mph!

Here's a Georgia tidbit: I'm watching the show Double Divas, which is about the antics of the owners of a bra store in Kennesaw.
This episode: They're visiting the Cleremont Lounge, the infamous Atlanta strip club. Anyone been there? I've even played there a dozen times or so (completely clothed). The first time was in the early 90s... and this stripper named Blondie got up on stage with us and started shimmying up and down the lead singer's leg, much to his distress (he's gay..lol). Meanwhile, everyone in the club starts slamming their beers back, running to the stage, slapping a dollar bill down and putting the empty can on top of it. Then I saw Blondie's trademark for the first (of many!) times: she went down the stage, picking up each beer can and crushing it between her breasts. I was laughing so hard I messed up the song. Good times, good times.
Holy hell!! There's Blondie!! She's on this episode!! The beer cans can't be far behind :) :)

Oh! And now that I've mentioned Kennesaw, I wanna put this out there before I forget-
I'll be part of a panel at Kennesaw State University at the end of March, reading from and talking about my essay in a soon-to-be published anthology. The anthology is called Queer South Rising: Voices of a Contested Place, and examines the ways in which being queer in the South fits together (or doesn't). My essay is called "The Queering Year," and is about me as a teen discovering my own queerness through the Rocky Horror/punk rock culture of Atlanta in 1980/1981.
Come on out! The reading is on March 27th at 2PM. :)

Gorgeous day here and hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! I just want to mention the "Frida and Diego" installation at the High Museum is well worth the visit. This particular show will only be in Atlanta and they did an extremely good job bringing it all together.

Hey Y'all!
I hope everyone had a nice weekend and tonight's rough weather isn't too troublesome. I had the opportunity to spend the better part of the weekend in Madison. The weather was to die for and so much starting to bloom....Carolina jasmine, forsythia, daffodils, tulip trees, redbud trees and the Bradford pears just popped overnight it seems. Of course being the small town there was a fish fry put on by the volunteer fire dept., I stopped at Miss Lola belle's house and picked up a dozen fresh eggs (leaving my cash contribution inside the old Maxwell coffee can by the back porch) so we could make a pound cake to go with the fried chicken and hush puppies later in the day. I happened to attend a church service Sunday morning at Madison Baptist. History has it that Sherman did not burn Madison as his good friend from West Point days hailed from the town. The good General did stable his horses in the church basement and there is still a small pile of old leather riding equipment in the far corner, long dry rotted. The wine (grape juice) of the Lord's Supper was served in a silver pitcher over 100 years old. The preacher talked about all those who came before us who had been served from that pitcher, and all those who will come after us. He spoke how one is no more or less important than another in God's eyes. It made me think about how far we have come, and how very far we have to go....as a gay community, as a region, as a country and as a world. But watching all the small acts of kindness that weekend, I believe we will get there...and I trust our journey, and my own. Being Southern...it's a good thing.

Hey y'all!
For those who haven't been subjected to my whining lately, you probably don't know I've had pain and limited movement in my right shoulder for the last 4 months. I'd like to say it's from throwing Superbowl-caliber touchdown passes or a fastball that broke the speed gun...but no. Apparently I'm at the age where severe injuries occur while I'm sound asleep.
Anyway, time didn't help. Neither did a shot of cortisone or 2 months of physical therapy. So last Thursday, I had surgery. It turns out I had a tear in my supraspinatus muscle, which is one of the muscles that make up the rotator cuff. Now I'm on the mend, but it's slow-going, and I've got a SERIOUS case of Cabin Fever. I hope to be back at work on Monday- daytime TV is DEPRESSING!! (What's most depressing is that I was kind of getting into today's 8 hour marathon of Tabitha's Salon Takeover...)
Bunny and Clyde are still around! I snapped this picture from my carport door a few nights ago- they were scampering around my bike, but of course by the time I got the camera, they were headed back to the open road. Check out all the bunny prints in front of the bike! Born to be wild, indeed.
Hope everyone is well... Deb, take care of yourself while you're taking care of Ethan, okay?

Well... it was bound to happen.
There are baby bunnies in the neighborhood. Three have been sighted and reported so far: a white one, a brown one and a black one. I haven't seen any myself, but I'm on the lookout!
Unfortunately, the neighborhood cats are on the lookout too. A neighbor told me she saw one baby rabbit get away from a stalking cat by going through the chain link fence (it's small enough to fit through the gaps). I put the word out that I'd take any babies that could be caught. Katniss, I might need your help finding homes for them!
Hope everyone is well... diamondrose, have fun in Tybee!

So yesterday I was leaving work at 7:30 PM. I had just stepped out the door of my building, and what do I see on the sidewalk 30 feet away from me?
A brown rabbit. Just sitting there, like he was waiting on me to get off work so we could go hang out.
I whipped out my iPhone and snapped a picture, which caused a security guard to appear behind me. "Now, you know you can't be taking pictures here," he said in an exasperated tone. I had made him get up from his desk inside, and he wasn't happy about it.
"Look! It's a rabbit!" I exclaimed.
"Yes, I see, but you can't be taking pictures."
"But it's a rabbit!" I said again, and pointed for emphasis.
His expression shifted from exasperation to curiosity. "Where are you from?" he asked. He had decided I'm from a place with no rabbits. Mars, maybe.
"I'm from here!!" I chirped. I was still giddy from the sighting, and couldn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm from my voice.
He laughed, shook his head, and said, "Well, I must be a country boy, because I don't get that excited about a rabbit." I wanted to tell him, "you don't understand, they're following me to work now!" But even in my heightened state of excitement, I knew that's not the sort of thing I should tell a security guard at my workplace.
As a peace offering, he told me, "you know, there's a whole family by the lake. I've seen the babies hopping around, they're cute. You should go look." I thanked him for the information, and promised I would.
But I won't. Canadian geese are also living by the lake right now, and those things terrify me. Make one wrong move, and my last wildlife sighting would be an angry blur of feathers and beaks. "Another casualty of killer Canadian geese," the headlines would scream.
It might make a good picture, though.

DANG! Has it really been that long since any Georgia folks checked in?
I've been spending a lot of time in the Atlanta area lately and am wondering how many Planet folks are close by?
Enjoyed a wonderful tea service at Dr. Bombay's Underwater Teaparty a couple of weeks ago and have been LOVING the Your Dekalb Farmer's Market!
If you are from the area, what are some of the "must-see" places?
I've been to the Aquarium, the botanical gardens, Jeju spa, several of the malls, 2 different farmer's markets, the World of Coca-Cola (years ago), the Heretic, Wolf Creek Olympic park/camp (years ago), the Margaret Mitchell House (years ago), the Center for Puppetry Arts, Piedmont park, Ponce City Market, all over Decatur, and lots of places I'm forgetting.
Looking for really unique experiences, places to eat, dog-friendly places, etc. Thanks in advance!!
Pappadeaux is fabulous food (if is still open). The Varsity is a MUST! The Big Chicken....lol.
Mary Mac's is great southern comfort food.

ATLANTA!!! I AM IN YOU!!
The weather is delightful so far! Overcast with a few drizzles here and there but mild and wonderful.
I found a wonderful little Asian market and made friends with the owner. She helped me pick out some black bean paste, fish sauce, and pickled mustard greens and showed me all the different strange and wonderful dessert-type things she carries.
I LOVE Atlanta and it's outskirts. It's got all the diversity of Los Angeles and all the charm of Little Rock and all the weird little shops of Memphis (all places I have lived) all wrapped up into one.
Frolicon is this weekend!
And we have a tea party to go to!
And and and!
