No I don't want to subscribe to a "GA thread". Besides your title is much better than mine which was Hello from Georgia.

Hi ..... lucky you ! .... I am honestly happy for you . I would get hell out of GA if I could in a minute ..... However , I am stuck for the moment . I have to be patient . I am sure I will talk to you before you leave and wish you all the happiness that's out there :)

I'm subscribing after all.
Sidebar: I think Georgia is gorgeous at least in these parts.

Vlasta
11-15-2009, 06:28 PM
thank you for subscribing :) .... as I stated I don't think I am the best candidate for GA forum , but I was thinking it would be nice to have something posted here .

I would like to clarify my statement regarding the state of Georgia ... I am not saying it's not gorgeous here ... I think majority places in The USA are gorgeous .

However , in my case I would like to go back home . At my old age , I honestly feel the need to return to my roots where I am comfortable and I can be in the cultural background I was raised .Yet , at this moment , I can't for a several reasons and I have a fear that most likely I never will . I lived in a couple countries in Europe , but to be honest I never experienced anything like this .

Over the years I got tired of being hammered down by some people and being view as a foreigner/ a moron . I am so repulsed by people making fun of my English when some of them doesn't even speak they native language properly and I am not talking about this website I just landed here . I reached to a point I don't even try to improve my English. For my work I dictate to transcriber and everything else it's on computer.

I am thinking my main reason why I am such workaholic , because in comparison online and people at work they are not judging me by my English , my accent, my weight , what type of clothing I wear, but by my work ethics, my personality and skills I have. My best friends I have are from work some are gay and some are straight. I am well excepted by them .

Why should this Georgia thread need someone to be in charge of it? Why does it have to be a social venue for events and all that? I guess that's okay, as long as it doesn't become alienating and provides information. I subscribed to welcome people from Georgia, as a fellow Georgian. I don't anticipate using this thread this as a social venue that I would pursue offline. If other people do, it's their business.

As for being a foreigner, if people don't like it, it's their problem. I hope you'll discover that this site is eclectic and open and accepting enough to somewhat compensate for the hassles that you've endured offline. I also hope that this thread doesn't become clique or elitist or alienating in any way as to snub others. Enjoy your time on here—that's what its here for as well as the exchange of ideas and thoughts with more congenial backdrop.

And...Georgia on my mind....in my mind....is a gorgeous.

Vlasta
11-15-2009, 07:29 PM
I didn't mean that someone has to be in charge of this thread , I simply stated " it would be nice to have something posted here " and since here are few people from GA I was not the best candidate to open this thread , that's all .
I agree with you, I wouldn't consider this thread as a social venue myself .... I made that mistake in the past .

I have been on few other websites and I didn't see one yet where there were no clique or people were not alienated . You are right this site has a different feeling and we will see .

Howdy Vlasta and all the other good Gawgia peeps!!! :D

How's everyone in the Peach State weathering through the winter??

It's been nice here in Vegas, so far, with temps in the 50's and 60's...and sunny, but I still miss home.

Vlasta, have you been seeing much of the H1N1 thing in your ER?? We've had just a smattering of cases, but we don't serve the general population, either, so my facility isn't a good cross section to judge by. It seems like some years, all our vents are in action, and other years, not so much. We've had a respite in the past few weeks tho. I have to admit that sometimes it's nice to just be able to push nebs and not have to be running to codes or tending ventilators. It makes for more time to give my students and patients for teaching. :winky:

Cheers to everyone for a great Monday!!

Never knew you'd been to The Stage Door. Sadly, its doors closed New Year's Eve. (w) Bryan, the owner, is hoping to find a new location and reopen in spring or summer, but it's all just hope at this point.

1. Atlanta :LGBTQFlag:
Georgia isn’t the most gay-friendly state, but Atlanta is undoubtedly our gayest city—with 29 gay bars here, there’s a reason it’s dubbed Hotlanta. Atlanta’s several queer events include one of the nation’s largest Prides in October (returning to Piedmont Park this year), and MondoHomo, a May event celebrating art, drag, burlesque, film, and BBQ. The gay epicenter is Midtown, anchored by Outwrite Books, a giant gay bookstore bucking the national trend—by staying in business! Atlanta guys are hunky, the ladies are gracious, the gay sports leagues are seriously well organized, and its housewives (and their gay BFFs, complete with handbags and heels) are now camp icons. And who doesn’t love the sweet lilt of a Georgia accent on a knockout guy or gal? :cheer:

At one point time we have a great forum on different planet until someone came in destroyed and move away , but that's history thanks God .

Every time I looked this thread is sad and empty . Do you think we can at least restore this thread ? Which by no means, I am not implying you have to be at my house tomorrow or we must get together this weekend .

There are many things going on in GA that we can talk about it , post events and what is bothering you in the city .

Before I get into a social events . Is there anybody that are affected by the Peach pass ? the roads we already have pain once for as a tax payers and now we are paying again to drive on the same road ? Pay twice to get to work or elsewhere it's outrages at least to me .

Anyway , I am just trying to get some communication started , say GM ,etc .

I hope someone will reply . It sadness me there are other states that have a great forums and our died .

My sister lives in Georgia...south of Macon. I went to visit her last summer and camped there. I hated driving through Atlanta (we were stuck there for five hours)...I hated the ant invasion...what is with Georgia and ants? I loved Savannah and Tybee Island!! :)

My sister lives in Georgia...south of Macon. I went to visit her last summer and camped there. I hated driving through Atlanta (we were stuck there for five hours)...I hated the ant invasion...what is with Georgia and ants? I loved Savannah and Tybee Island!! :)

I am not sure about ants since I am OCD on my house being clean . I hope you think I would catch ant in my house . poor little ant would regret to stepping here , but I do have services on all the bugs available to get to close to my house . This past summer I even added back yard to spray for mosquitoes and it helped around the pool beside a hanging bug killer .

Talking about driving in Atlanta , I completely understand . My round trip to my work was 3 1/2 hours daily and that didn't include when I was on a call . Money are important , but not everything and it was stressful . Taking in consideration for someone that's not familiar with Atlanta is a double stress .

Girl when I go to places that I don't frequent often , I even get lost with GPS . 99 streets have effing Peach in. Peach this , Peach that , peach my you know what .

I love Savannah such a historic city and Tybee Island it's beautiful . Few years back I was looking to buy propriety there , but as a procrastinator Sandra Bullock and few other celebrities beat me to it , not just with a checkbook , but with people they work for them and prices went sky high there . Things do happen for a reason , because right now I wouldn't like to be stuck with two houses .

Now , Macon it's more easy , but people that I work with moved here from Macon . I am not exactly sure right now , but Atlanta was seven million people which was estimated and it didn't included unregistered people .

However , with a new immigration law that Obama sign , many people are being deported under inhume conditions . Yes , I do understand complains that they children go to schools and we are paying taxes , medical care , atc. what is heart breaking for me that parents are being deported and children born here going to a system from loving families .

Many jobs on farms are open now , crops are not being pick up and nobody wants these jobs ? Therefore , we will still end up with a lost due to the cost of produce .Well , I didn't meant to run this far , but is simply sad what is happening .

Thank you for not letting me hang here by myself huny :)

Back eons ago when I lived there...Piedmont Park on weekends is great, Va.-Highlands area, Little Five Points has bookstores, restaurants, and many cool places. There are many bars, if you are into that....there is an awesome Pride there each year...start at the bookstore in Little Five Points and see...always some way cool peeps there...hope this helps you out...

yes that was what I was referring those places to you for...a bookstore is a great social media...there are so many "rags" (newspapers) there to pick up and you will surely find something of interest...social media wise....there was a quaint little coffee shop in LFP I can't remember name of..and of course Midtown...is a mecca of places..the adult bookstores..always someone to chat with and get ideas on social gatherings..
Several of us met up in Savannah for their St Pat parade a few weeks back..some from NC, Savannah, and SC. We had a blast, too!!!
Ok good luck...have a great weekend BK.

Trying to get my posse together for LeBuzz Sat. night. I want to go just to make a point because as the AJC mentioned:

"The gay pride festival is a change for Cobb County. In 1993 the county commission passed a resolution condemning the "gay lifestyle". The anti-gay resolution led to activists protesting Cobb as a volleyball event location of the 1996 Olympics. As a result, Olympic organizers pulled the event from Cobb and the route for the Olympic torch bypassed the county."

Nothing I like better than combating homophobia with kindness, tolerance and a rocking pair of stilettos!

I was thinking something a little more altruistic than voting but it does meet all the criteria listed so fair play!

I was actually walking out the door to vote when my mother called. The following conversation ensued;

Mom: "What are you up to?"
Me: "On my way to vote."
Mom:' "Please tell me you aren't going to vote for that Obama."
Me: (blink blink) "What?"
Mom: "Obama, I know how you are. It would be just like you. Tell me you won't vote for him today."
Me: "Ummm...no, I won't."
Mom: "Well good. Glad to hear it."

True to my word I did not vote for Obama today. Matter of fact I didn't even see him listed as running for the DeKalb School Board.... (smh)

Ohhhh wow...yes that will be spectacular. I may have to crash that wedding...smiles...
Plan to dine in the afternoon when tide is highest...as the Crab Shack sets on a marsh....plan when the tide is high... those pesky "no see'ums" come out on low tide......
There is a huge, lovely deck nestled in the huge oaks with swaying moss in them..is very rustic. They have big half barrels with gas logs for fire/warmth. The ambiance is just incredible!!! Over in the gift house beside the restaurant is a huge huge cat haven...they have kitty condos, etc for them..and exotic birds...
Perhaps you will get to see some of the loggerhead turtle nests when you are there...
Savannah is a beautiful city. Midnight in The Garden of Good & Evil was filmed there on the square, as was parts of Forrest Gump..

First off congratulations and best wishes! Sounds lovely and Claybaby is right, skip Lady & sons but Crab Shack for sure and def. at high tide. My cousin lives down in Darien and the mosquitoes are so bad you can't jump in the car without at least 20 getting in with you. Not sure of your timeframe but I LOVE Cumberland Island if you can make it over that way. Yes! The moon was sooo pretty! Have any of you been out to Hard Labor Creek SP? There is an observatory out there off I-20 run by UGA. Once a month during the summer it is open (no charge) to the public. Highly recommend it. It is one thing to see the rings of Venus in pictures/tv but a completely different experience "live" if you will......

and yes, Claybaby, that includes you. We are all about Southern hospitality here!

Bkisbutchenuff...did you find a way to occupy your time this weekend?

Places I plan to hit;

Fri. evening; Free dance classes at the Rush Center (next to Lesbian Health Center). I'm focusing on ballroom but they are teaching swing too. I can assure you butches are in very short supply at this event. (but the gay men are always jealous of my shoes)

Sat.- Fourth Tues. is meeting at Movie Tavern N'Lake for "Total Recall" in the evening.

Sat.-A really cool group of photographers is meeting at the Westin to shot some stuff on P'Tree at night. About 40 of us are going. Not a gay group but cool people. This is where I plan to hang.

Sun.--Summer Singers are doing Beethoven's Mass in C at Grace United Methodist. Sold out but I know someone with a spare/free ticket (yeah, I roll like that)

If anyone wants details/info. on any of the above p/m me.

Ok....I just covered gay arts/culture this weekend. Someone else jump in with "sports" and "nature."

Ok....I just covered gay arts/culture this weekend. Someone else jump in with "sports" and "nature."

Nature: I plan to encourage the black widows that live in my back yard to find another back yard to live in. I intend to do this with pesticides, demolishing the rotting planter that they currently live in, performing elaborate spider hexes, or some combination of the three. I plan to look silly as hell with my jeans stuffed in my socks while I do this. I also plan to swat at myself, and spaz out at the tiniest crawling sensation. I may even emit shrieks that I don't recognize as my own.

I hate nature.

Tonight: (Sports!!) Fast Forwarding through DVRed Olympics so that the wife doesn't have an aneurysm because of how full the DVR is (forget the fact that she has 50 hours of NCIS stashed on it).

Tomorrow: Figure out how I can make a "chips and sandwich" family gathering into a low calorie / low simple carb experience. Then go to said family gathering and pray no one brings up Chik Fil A (no one = brother).

Sunday: Celebrate the wife's birthday which means doing anything she wants to do.

I survived...though the task isn't complete. I've got two wood planters, both old and rotting, the ideal home for black widows (one should never ever ever ever carry in firewood for the first fire of the season after the wood has been sitting outside all summer without fully inspecting it for black widows!!)... I sprayed down the inside of the planters with pesticides...and not one...not two...but three black widows came charging out of their hidey-holes. I didn't scream because 1. I anticipated their appearance and 2. I was standing 4 feet away (the pesticide container has a battery-powered dispenser!!).

I soaked the monkey grass on the outside of the planters with pesticide as well, in case any spiders tried to make a break for it. I'll spray it again this week, and demolish the planters this weekend.

I've got a cold now... or maybe it's from inhaling all the pesticide? No idea where I picked up the cold, I'm such a hermit, and nobody I work directly with has one. Of course, I do work with diseases for a living. Oh well. Hope everyone is well.

Left over cake? LOL I actually only had the tiniest of slivers... I had salad for dinner instead of their mega sandwiches they were making.. I think I did pretty good. Got enough cake to taste and not enough to spin off into a sugar induced frenzy chased with a coma. lol

Her birthday was good - we basically didn't do much of anything. Went to Longhorn for dinner (my reason for not going crazy the day before) and then went home and watched the olympics.

J.D.---ha ha ha ha! So *that's* what the funny green haze hanging over the city is about....pesticide fumes!
Don't feel bad...I once went to a cabin with some friends and was soooo proud of rockin' this L.L. Bean look...pink plaid flannel shirt, new cute suede hiking boots...totally had the "outdoor" look going on. So went to help bring in some firewood (fine...one log), pulled it off the top of this pile and I kid you not a MOUSE (!!!!!!!!) came flying (yes...they fly!!!) out at me! I did in fact scream like a girl, the dog freaked and took off down the road and I doubt whether an olympic sprinter would have bettered my time back to the cabin. When critters come flying at you it's too much nature for this girl!

Claybaby....I will concede defeat on the peach war. S. Caroliona...OMGosh! Eat over the sink awesomeness! (Oh...and sugarbaby watermelons....nature's candy).

Don't forget we have Mary Macs! Oh...and almost every single ethnic restaurant on Buford Hwy. Plus Southern Sweets for the best apple pie on this earth....(don't get me started....)

Everyone have a great day!

We're gearing up to head to canada... timing couldn't be better. I need a break from the south.

Awww...that sounds nice...sometimes the quiet "just be" times are the best. I am envious of the Canada trip as sounds lovely. I heard (???) it is supposed to get cooler the end of this week (hallelujah!)

Have you ever been to a website called Sparkpeople? It's free and they have some really, really good and healthy recipes. (hope it is not against rules to reference a website here).

I have to say.. the peaches here are usually awesome, but this year the peaches suck!(just my opinion) On the other hand, the nectarines have been awesome this year!

I know! Drought? But S. Carolina has more or less the same conditions. I am lucky because I go to this little independent produce stand and the owner is great. I bought some Ga. peaches 2 weeks ago and she asked how they were and I said they were "fine". She then grabbed my arm and steered me to the S. Carolina peaches. Apparently her husband goes up there and buys on the weekends. They are da' bomb!
But hey....we have the best pecans hands down!

I'm not from Georgia or the south. But my 2nd ex-wife is Southern. I whole heartedly admit to a huge attraction to Southern ladies. The protocol. The vernacular. The accent. Oh, damn, that slight, soft sweet drawl. Atlanta is on my to do list.
I apologize in advance if I sound like a male chauvinist pig. I'm truly not.
But I will admit to being somewhat shallow. ;-)

LOL a small town in the south may get you closer to that stereotype.. but then you get the likelihood for the other stereotypes. Racism, Religious intolerance, homophobia...

So if you stay "inside the perimeter" you'll get a lot of people who weren't born in the south - and those that were have very little if any southern accent (because we grew up around so many different accents). And if you go OTP (outside the perimeter)... well. Some people do what they can to avoid it. lol Personally I live OTP, but I definitely find myself "keeping an eye open" more than I did when I lived ITP.

Although Tawse does have some valid points (ITP is less 'Southern' than OTP) there is still a lot of the South around, and it isn't all bad. I still very much miss the writings of Celestine Sibley and Lewis Grizzard. It isn't all small-minded prejudice and there are still people who are kind, considerate and caring that will invite you to "come sit a spell" on the porch and offer a glass of sweet tea. LoL! I remember I went to San Fran a few years back and asked the waitress if they had sweet tea and she looked at me and said, "You mean, like, tea... with sugar already in it?" I guess we still do take some getting used to. But I know if I head east an hour and a half away from downtown I can go to visit my parents and stop at Miss Lilly's (84 years old that "Miss" is) and pick up some fresh eggs...if she isn't there just leave your money in the coffee can on the stoop, pass the older ladies at the "coffee club" who meet every Weds. to work on a hand stitched quilt to raffle off for the volunteer fire dept., wave to Billy who took a run-down old gymnasium and turned it into a local skate rink on Fri. and Sat. nights to give the kids (regardless of religion/race/etc.) something to do on the weekends. If it's a holiday the local boys will have smoked a hog for 24 hours and be getting ready to put out the "comin' get it" sign. If BBQ isn't your thing then the Volunteer Fire Dept. is grilling 200 chickens on the open pit (next to that skating rink I mentioned earlier). Oh, and if a bird dog wanders by...no matter whose dog it is,,,odds are he really is named "bleu".
Prejudice...sadly it's everywhere in the world and the south is not immune. Most I think based on fear, some on just flat out not knowing any better. I brought one of my good friends home over the 4th of July. She happens to be Nigerian. The well-meaning Miss Lilly asked her "What tribe are you from?" I wanted to DIE ON THE SPOT! But it wasn't said with any nasty kind of malice. Miss Lilly is 84, has never left the state much less gotten on an airplane. Lucky me my friend just laughed and explained a little about the village where she was from. Miss Lilly was enthralled and gave her a jar of bread and butter pickles to "take home to her mamma" as we hugged goodbye. Being an out gay femme has brought on some interesting conversations to be sure. Do some people give me a tight smile and walk on? Sure. But that still happens in downtown Atlanta too. Usually it's one of the well-meaning older ladies who wants to know if I'm "sure I'm gay, because sweetie you just don't look it." LoL! but we keep talking and I answer as best I can depending on the nature and motivation behind the question.

Kindness and understanding trumping ignorance....one step closer...then another. I think that's the only way...

I didn't say the south was all bad! I just know from previous experience people who think of the stereotypical south are typically (haha!) surprised when they come to Atlanta... it's not what they expect or what they see on TV. Which is not surprising since most things aren't like what you see on tv.

And my experience with the small town you're describing - has been unless you're "one of them" - you are *one of THEM*... especially when butch.

But the great thing is - everyone can have a different experience and it can still be the same place.

ITP here.... though really, a better label for me might be NLD (never leaves Decatur).

Random bit: I used to call Decatur the land of the 3 Ds: Dykes, DINKS (Double Income, No Kids) and Dentures....except it seems the old folks are dying off or selling out, and the dykes and DINKS all have kids now. :|

Celestine Sibley...wow, haven't thought of her in ages!

Way back in my rock-and-roll band days (the Ellen James Society, for you long-time Atlantans), I used to thicken up my accent whenever we were touring through the Southeast and would fuel up at some scary truck stop in the middle of the night. The regulars/locals would visibly tense up when they saw this rag-tag band of dykes wander in with mohawks and nose-rings...and then visibly relax when I stepped up to the register and this drawwwwwwwl left my mouth. Southern accent as social protection...go figure.

Happy Friday, all. I'm at the tail end of my cold....good riddance! My weekend agenda includes a trip to the Apple store and a trip to Costco....after which I'll need to spend what's left of the weekend resting!

Tony...thank you for the comments, that was very kind. Savannah is pretty (although to be fair I just adore Charleston). Cumberland Island is fabulous and with all sincerity the Okefenokee Swamp can be beautiful. All those gorgeous water lilies as far as the eye can see. Although right now it's hot and buggy and muggy! Might want to wait for cooler weather!

JD....too funny. I was posting the other day that I still have trouble pronouncing "siren." It comes out sounding like "sye-reeeen". I am sure when people hear it they deduct 20 i.q. points. LoL!
Don't get me started about the Apple store. I just two weeks ago upgraded to Snow Leopard (yes I am that much of a Luddite and Geek Squad makes a fortune off me!!)

LOL don't forget pronouncing Decatur as "Dick Hater" - that was always my favorite. I miss Decatur and yep when the market turns around and our dogs pass on - we're heading back to Decatur.

I don't have much of an accent until I get angry, frustrated, or otherwise distracted and then apparently it comes out. Beats me why that happens... maybe as I was growing up I heard people drawl more when emotional? :|

I can't wait to get back ITP so I can spend my time between Midtown, Decatur, and L5P again... I miss them. Even if Decatur and L5P have been... transformed / taken over. lol

One of the nice things about Ga. is there are several beaches (Atlantic and Gulf) that you can get to in a day's drive as well as go up in the mountains which I also love to do.
Ok....my last "yankee" story...(and really, I love everyone but some things are just too funny...)...a friend came down from NYC and we went up to Asheville area and into the mtns. We were driving back down the mtn. near dusk and a mother bear and her three cubs started to cross the road a few feet in front of us. My friend from NYC IMMEDIATELY hit the "lock" button on the car doors. I guess she thought we were about to get jacked...I almost wet myself laughing at the look on her face. Ha ha ha ha!!

On an up note...getting the fall bulb catalogs in the mail! I plant 350 tulip bulbs by the front walk every fall. (sadly tulips in Ga. are considered an annual)
Feel free to shout out any color combos you think are awesome....I'm in need of some inspiration. In years past have already done the pink/white, purple/pink, red/yellow, purple/red.

All i would have been able to do, or allow myself to do, was cut the grass and leave. I do have a load of responsiblities right now that i couldn't have imagined. They may be permanent and i may be a permanent no dating type.

1. Raise your hand if you already knew Georgia has a "Super Speeder" Law?

2. Bonus points if you know how many miles over the speed limit that entails.

3. Super-bonus points if you have any idea how much will be added to the "base" ticket price?

4. Triple-super bonus points with helping of warm peach pie a'la mode if you have any suggestions on how my "Like a Good Neighbor" insurance company is going to handle a certain little bit of info.

1. Raise your hand if you already knew Georgia has a "Super Speeder" Law?

*raises hand* It was kind of hard not to know about it, with the constant radio and tv spots about it 2 or 3 years ago, and even the interstate traffic alert marquees still broadcast reminders. New to Georgia, maybe?

I don't know the speeds, though- something like 15 or 20 mph over the posted speed limit? I've been lucky enough not to find out. So give us details! How much is the fine? If it's any consolation, the money collected from fines is supposed to go to trauma centers to take care of people injured in car wrecks :|

Here is some strangeness from my week:

My neighborhood has an email list that posts all manner of questions and concerns, from "when is recycling day?" to "was that a gunshot I just heard?" Anyway, three days ago, someone sent out a post titled "Stop chasing the white rabbit!!" I thought maybe it was a "don't do drugs" message or something, but no, it was a literal demand. It turns out that the guy who owns the house next door was ticked off that on two separate occasions, two different women came in his yard to try to catch a white rabbit, and he didn't want them on his lawn (he didn't seem to care about the rabbit, he just didn't want any unannounced neighbors on his lawn).

I started off reading this email thinking the title is about drugs, then I'm thinking the guy who wrote it must be on drugs, because the whole thing is just so bizarre....I mean, two different neighbors chasing a white rabbit on two different days, but the SAME lawn?? Oh, and did I mention the house is right NEXT to mine??

So yesterday, it was about 7 AM, I was pulling out on my street to go to work- I drove past my neighbor's house, and guess what I saw right smack in the middle of the front lawn? Yep, a fricking white rabbit, bold as a bolshevik, just sitting there. WTF???

Oh, and I saw it again this morning. Same lawn, but this time it was in motion. I feel like I'm on drugs.

I REALLY want to know what the deal is with this rabbit. Is it a pet rabbit so well trained that it stays in its own yard? Is it an escaped pet surviving on cat food? Is it a wild rabbit with a really unfortunate choice in fur color? So. Fucking. Weird.

All I can say with certainty is that I'm not going on my neighbor's lawn to catch it. :|

*raises hand*

Anyway, three days ago, someone sent out a post titled "Stop chasing the white rabbit!!" I thought maybe it was a "don't do drugs" message or something, but no, it was a literal demand. It turns out that the guy who owns the house next door was ticked off that on two separate occasions, two different women came in his yard to try to catch a white rabbit, and he didn't want them on his lawn (he didn't seem to care about the rabbit, he just didn't want any unannounced neighbors on his lawn).

Ok...that is hilarious! I can see that on a "just say no" tee shirt! Ha ha ha!
I would hazard a guess (??) that maybe it is a pet rabbit that escaped or was even let go? I volunteer at a no-kill shelter and won't depress you with all the animals brought in when people lose their homes, etc. I do hate to think of the poor little thing come winter. I doubt it has much of a chance. But maybe it is the Easter Bunny out of season so very savvy? A little surprised a hawk, etc. hasn't made a meal of it. Please keep us posted on the bunny chronicles. Hope it ends well.

Good morning!

So....the weather report for today is 91 degrees and "muggy." Lovely (not).

There seem to be 9 bazillion (<--yes, that's a real number) mosquitoes in my yard. (super not lovely)

Hope everyone has a great weekend! If you are doing something fun please post so the rest of us can either live vicariously or just flat out be jealous!

Katniss~~(swatting mosquitoes and wondering about West Nile Virus)

A case of West Nile virus was reported in Avondale Estates, less than a mile from me. Yikes!

A few weeks ago, I realized the mosquitos really seemed worse than usual, and we've been getting just enough rain to create sources of standing water...so I went around my yard looking for them. I found that an overturned garbage can lid, flowerpot dish, and the ash-catcher on the bottom of the Weber grill all had standing water that was alive with movement from mosquito larvae...ugh.

I'm sure it's time to do a standing water check again.

So...here is the White Rabbit update I'm sure you've all been waiting for (or at least Katniss has!): There is no update. I haven't seen the rabbit again, but I haven't left for work at the crack of dawn since then either. I did talk to the neighborhood Harmless Crazy Lady last week, who made sure I knew that *she* was not one of the rabbit chasing trespassers mentioned in the Stop Chasing the White Rabbit Post...lol. She knows all of the neighborhood stories and gossip, and confirms it probably started out as a pet (it's far too comfortable around people, though not enough to let itself get caught)...but nobody knows who it belongs to.

Maybe I'll set up my humane small animal trap close to my neighbor's yard...but what the heck do I do with it if I catch it???

I've spent the weekend in Baltimore... flying back to Atlanta today. May end up going to work this weekend to catch up on the last week... even though I've been here for a work trip. Go figure.

I get home sick sometimes. (Mosquitoes, grass cutting, muggy weather, bunnies,:eatinghersheybar: oh yeah, I remember all that now - nevermind (lol) and, I remember praying for fall... hehe) I hope all the Ga peeps are doing ok? Really though - Georgia can never really leave your mind no matter where you land once you get a good taste of it.

Anybody home? What happened to you people? Sheesh...mention a little yard work and we are back to crickets and lightening bugs. It's safe to come out now. The grass was cut (and so was an errant frisbee... but that's another matter all together).

Hope everyone is having a great week! :lawnmower:

A few things... #1 sorry I've been away but Canada was awesome :)

Now... Super Speeder Laws in Ga:

How much higher? The new law titled HB160 tacks-on another two-hundred-dollar state-fee for any driver convicted of speeding at 75-or-more on any two-lane roads.. OR convicted of speeding at 85-and-over anywhere in Georgia. Those new state fees will be in addition to any local fines already in effect in the jurisdiction where the speeding offense occurs.

*this is why regardless of where I am in the country - I don't go over 83 unless I'm passing... and even then I do it quick.

Avondale Estates: OMG I went to Avondale High! (a long time ago, but still) that was my stomping grounds. Used to walk across the gold course every morning when it was still there.. then they got rid of it and I had to actually walk around the long way around to the school. Bastages.

... and with that I'm off to get ready to head to "Bonkers" up in Roswell - bunch of my friends are getting together for some "two drink minimum" time...

Hey ya'll! (<--so much nicer a greeting than the Northern 'you'se guys')

JD---Thanks for the WNV info. Now one more thing I need to really worry about..oy vey! Also, *please* try and catch the white rabbit! I am sure it will starve come winter. There are actually a few rescue orgs. in the area that I bet would help trap it, or maybe the Humane Society?

StrongButch--yes! Fried pickles do rock! But I still love me some fried okra...like grandma made...light cornmeal dusting, cast iron skillet fried so it is crunchy and NEVER mushy!

Kast--It has been miserable for days with heat/humidity *but* this week calls for sunny with high in the low 80's (hurrah!!) Fall will get here! Tailgating parties, festivals, PRIDE, and planting spring bulbs! Yay!

Duchess--You are too kind! We should throw out a time/place close to PRIDE and see if anyone wants to hang out.

BKB- Ok...*how* was the weekend (wearing a tie and...?) Anything we need to know? LoL!

Tawse--Welcome back! Bet Canada was awesome and am so jealous! Yes, i did in fact find out that the "super" fee is $200.00 tacked on to the regular fee. Also, when the officer asked me if "I was trying to use the radar gun to check my tachometer settings?" The correct answer would have been "no" and not "Yes, sir." (I did not know what a tachometer was so I thought by being agreeable things would go well...clearly not).

Hope everyone has an AWESOME week!

Do you have his name so I can call and ask if he's trying to use his badge to check the setting for his intelligence?

Would have been cool to have gotten together this weekend but I am booked solid all the way through.

If anyone is just milling around looking for an event there is the Greek Festival in Decatur on Clairemont Road at the Greek Orthodox Church. Music, dancing, crafts, food...food...more food. They have a drive-through beside the church if you don't want to actually participate in the festival itself. (yes, I did get my Greek on for lunch today...yummy!)

Also Historic Oakland Cemetery is having a Victorian Street Festival on Sunday. Artists, musicians, food vendors, actors and storytellers dressed in Victorian garb. A really neat time to tour the cemetery. Aa well....they are now selling tickets to the night tours at the end of the month/Halloween. These are awesome and always sell out in advance. You are taken on a guided tour at night and storytellers are dressed as some of the interred residents. Not a "boo" and scare you experience...but really neat history about Atlanta, etc. Several of the mausoleums are open as well with beautiful stained glass, candles, etc. and this is the only time of year they open those areas for viewing. Well worth it if you have never been. (and yes, I do have a thing for old cemeteries....)

But whatever you may do....enjoy a great weekend!

Hey Georgia folks....

I wonder if anyone here can give us a hand. We're trying to shuttle a little kitty with an injured leg (but who is totally stable...she just limps and is very young) from TN to South Florida so that I can add her to our menagerie and to prevent her last stop from being the shelter.

Shadowspapa can bring her as far as Atlanta, but that's still about an 18 hour round trip for me.

Is anyone, or would anyone be willing to, help get her from Atlanta to somewhere a little more south? We're aiming for next weekend...

If you can help, please PM either me or shadowspapa or both. :)
Thank you! :playingcat:

Hey ya'll!

I won't be able to make anything today (bummer) but will throw out two suggestions for those who do want to meet up.

Joe's on Juniper (1049 Juniper St.) or Einsteins (*not* the bagel place, it is a restaurant with a great patio area) that is also on Juniper. These are both a block from the park and parallel Piedmont so you can grab drinks/food and walk over to Piedmont. Obvs. everything will be packed so plan for that but if you want casual hang out and walking distance either of those would work.

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend! The weather could not be better for it! Hugs to all!

I'm about to head that way...I have a brown polo and t shirt on. Would love to meet some bfp people!

Either way - enjoy this beautiful day!

I feel honored and priviledged to have met StrongButch at PRIDE - and bought him a birthday beer.
I love ATL!

I don't think I met anyone from here! We did the trans march and then later on, my teenager stood at the 12th street entrance and sang loudly over the bible readers.
Let me know where you guys are tomorrow!

Hey ya'll! Hope everyone is loving this weather, I sure am!
Glad you found us Juliebrave and welcome!

A couple of rambling thoughts (my speciality)

1. We should plan a meetup sometime for whomever can make it. Any interest in that? Ideas welcome.... I really want to go to a Haunted House then maybe dinner after? Post if you might be interested.

2. Anyone interested in photography? I tromp around all over the place and would love a partner in crime to meet up and do some shots at whatever venue we feel like.

Hope everyone is having an *awesome* week! The photo attached is our own Oakland Cemetery with ATL skyline in the background. Neat place if you have never been.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Pride!

The white rabbit is still around, and even fatter. I see it nearly every day now! Home base is next door, where I've noticed a small dog cage covered in blue tarp in the front yard. He's none-too-shy about coming in my yard, and I've even seen him in my (fenced-in) back yard. I tried to approach him- he never let me closer than 8 feet, and even then, he acted annoyed that I got close enough for him to have to move.

When two neighborhood cats started stalking him, he went into defensive mode (standing straight up, nose twitching like crazy), then shot off like a rocket. He certainly knows which threats to take seriously. Fascinating.

I bought two tickets for a haunted house off of Groupon, but can't recall which one.... all I remember of it is you have to be over 21 to get in, because they offer alcohol on the way in and out. Strange way to sell booze. Anyway, I'd be up for a haunted house and dinner!

Ok...so sounds like a few folks might be interested in a get together.

1. The last Haunted House I went to was Netherworld (up I-85, Norcross area) and that was maybe 3 years ago. There is 13 Stories which is supposed to be very scary (I heard they had 'chicken doors' to bypass some of the scarier parts). It is up in Kennesaw near Town Center mall. Not sure what works for anyone. I don't mind going where ever so suggestions on any location welcome. JD had you rather go to the one you already have tickets for? This coming weekend is booked for me but maybe the next? Fri. or a Sat.? What works for people and the more the merrier/scarier.

2. Photography...Great! For the record I am sooo bad but really trying to learn. I have a Canon EOS 7D and a few lenses. Trying to get the hang of it. I like nature (often with a macro) and architectural shots but any shooting practice would help (downtown at night is a favorite but i am loath to tromp up and down P'tree by myself.) All this to say it would be cool if we could get a a few folks of all skill levels to go as i learn so much more from others. Also...fair warning I have been known to lay down in the middle of the Capital rotunda to get a great ceiling shot....so if you hang with me you need to learn to pretend you don't know me or have a high threshold for embarrassment!

3. JD in all seriousness I thought of the white rabbit this afternoon! My neighbor's cat (white/grey) went by and I was thinking with cooler weather coming how the rabbit was doing.....well it seems!

ok...everyone have a great week!

Hi beautiful GA peeps. I really want to see Paranormal Activity 4 tonight. Anybody want to see it with me? I must admit, I'm too chicken to see it alone.:nailbitin:

Sounds like fun but during the week it's tougher for me to schedule last minute. Hope someone else can join you! Are you up for a house haunting as well?
