Ever since I first saw Medusa & Arwen perform spoken word a few years back, I have been hooked. The rawness takes me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and often leaves me speechless.
Thanks to the wonderful world of the internet, we have access to hundreds of different styles and topics of spoken word, and I thought that we could share our favorite ones here.

I'm with you Pinky. I love spoken word weather public or private confessions, it moves me as well. La Bruja is one of my favorites. I love the way she can speak the truth..........see where she takes it, she's deep.

Reading this thread has caused me to do some research on a Slam poet who is close to my heart. She is my niece, my brother's daughter. We are not in close contact, though I am on her mailing list and every once in a while she performs close to me. I haven't gone to see her yet ... isn't that weird? Turns out she is pretty famous. Her name is Queen Sheba aka Bethsheba A Rem.
Reading all your posts reminds me that I used to love poetry and even write a little (very poorly.) Guess it's time I went to see the niece perform.

The man reading the poem is not the poet. He is a poet though, and I ran across this reading while looking for a poem he wrote regarding a wolf - which I cannot find on YouTube. I did hear a section of it in the poetry foundation's poetry lectures podcast which I recommend if you are as nerdy-in-love with poetry as I am.

Gone are the Winds But Long Live the Words

Heavy in the wind,
was sound of a phrase-
Rhett Butler's curse word ~
blew open the door
to eminent change
~
The dialogue
withstood critics
who could not keep
that door bolted ~
A strong wind ~ ~
swept away ~
old values
Filth caved
in the
door
~

Passion untamed,heating like a fire.
Yet words remain unspoken between us.
Desire, longing, rip me inside.
But I will show it not.
In the dark of night my tears flow.
Burning tracks on my skin.
Lost in my dreams, I see so much of our story unwritten.
This dance has only just begun.
So I will wait.
And I will hope.
Strong and true.
Loving only one, till the end....
Skin on skin desire growing with each caress each tender kiss
Slowly exploring remembering igniting the passion we allowed to dim
Hands shaking teasing as you take control
Leading me where I did not even know I could go
Every nerve is alive your setting me on fire
How can this be that I crave what I thought I never could
Letting you lead me letting you touch me as no other ever could
Fireworks exploding in my brain I thought I was defective could never experience this
Yet effortlessly you take me to heights of passion I never knew I could feel
My boundaries barriers come crashing around me
I want this I crave this I need this
I give to you what I have never given before
My heart my body
You have melted me and I will never be the same
