This weekend, I am especially grateful for/to:

1) My parents for giving me a ride both to and from Portland
2) Candace & Kassi for giving me a place to stay Friday night
3) June & Kat for giving me a place to stay Saturday night
4) Sarah for planning a kick-ass butch-femme social Saturday evening and for taking me with her to explore and exercise on Mt. Tabor this morning

It was a good weekend and it wouldn't have been half as wonderful if these friends and family members had not extended their kindness towards me.

I am blessed! :)

The NHS (the free health care system here in the UK). It's not perfect but when I hear some of the horror stories about what goes on in other countries, the US included, it makes me realize how lucky we actually are.

Today I am grateful for my partner...

I have, (in the past) been partnered with people who had one side they show the world and the other side they showed in private..

My role was.. Don't do anything to make me look bad.. Watch your P's and Q's and be a sweet girl.. Don't do anything that will make me look bad..

I often wished for a partner who would say.... *Damned the torpedos, full steam ahead* I'm going to speak my piece and let the chips fall where they may.. You do the same and it will be a hella ride*

My wish came true in Mitmo... Grin... She doesn't care what I say, how I act, what I look like.. She says things like.. *I want to lick your mind* and.. Damn baby, you are so cute.. (While I have on bleach stained clothes and a head scarf.. smelling of bleach)

I got real lucky the last time I didn't tell her to get the fuck out of my apt... Real lucky.. with cake even...

Of course this is after I had relapsed for three days
after 19 years of complete and uninteruppted sobriety

a year later I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders

I think about this quote often ...

"If the only prayer you ever said was ‘Thank you,’ that would be enough.” – Meister Ekhart

So, today I say THANK YOU to the Universe!

Thank you for this life, these experiences, the joy and the heartache. Thank you for each moment past, each one yet to come, and most importantly the one happening right now.

I'm grateful for an awful lot of things, but one of the things is that I seem to always have somebody looking out for me when things get rough. I occasionally have a string of bad luck but it always seems to be counteracted by something good in the end. I totaled my truck a few weeks ago but came out with only a bruise and the good thing was that it wasn't my fault and someone else is picking up the tab for all of it. Blessings can sometimes be in disguise.
I am also grateful for the girl in my life. She has made my life good, brought me out of the cave I had been hiding in forever and makes me feel like I am the only person on the earth some days. I can't thank her enough for those things or express how grateful I am she wandered into my life.

I'm grateful for:

1. A great job that connects me with other Vets, and I'm grateful for all of the wonderful stories they tell about the things they've done and the difference they've made in this world. It reminds me to never forget the obligation that I have to also make a positive difference for those who will follow after me. It also reminds me of the value of humility. Everyone has a story to tell.

2. I'm grateful for the love of a wonderful woman. This reminds me that love also commands respect, patience and devotion. It also requires the work of the heart, and there is nothing as sacred as that.

3. I am grateful for the enduring love and support of my friends and family. It reminds me of the connection we all have to each other. No one walks the path alone, though sometimes I tend to live too much inside myself and withdraw. We all need each other.

4. I am grateful for all of the many material things I have in my life, because they remind me of where I've been before, when I didn't have them. There is a quiet satisfaction in enjoying the fruits of hard work and sacrifice. It reminds me to continue to be charitable to others who don't have all that I do, and that some are far more worthy of these blessings than I. It also reminds me that life itself is a game of chance and choice. We take a chance and hope the choice pans out to be the right one. As Mother says, "Fortune favors the bold".

5. I am grateful for Myron, who always shows me how even the smallest of lives can impact larger ones. The sweetest of loves can sometimes come in the smallest of packages, indeed. :frog::awww:

One of my friends on Facebook posted this about gratitude on her status... and I just had to repost it!

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity.... It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.

I am grateful for life experiences. The calmness and serenity that is earned through living through difficult times is such a blessing.
I'm grateful for good health, and the ability, motiviation and drive to keep plugging along, despite the cracks, creaks and groans of time creeping up on me.
I am grateful for love. My love. And hers. The love I feel makes me strive to be a better person, and her love for me leaves me breathless.
And I am grateful for our unconventional family. A little goat-butt named Petey, and a blender with claws named Baxie. lil shits...

There's a whole lotta gratitude going on over here.

*Family, Friends, and Animals

*Small Acts of Kindness Shown to Me, esp. in Dino's 3rd Birthday Thread

*Getting a Coupon in the Mail for $.99 Large Coffee at Dunkin' Donuts

*When I was out at NIH, I left my wallet with Rosie in case she needed it for money for my sister. Not even thinking of this, I walked out and went downstairs to get a newspaper for my bio-father, and coffee for my mother. Well, after standing in line 20 min. I got up to the cashier. I went for my wallet, and it wasn't there. A very kind stranger, told me not to worry about it, and bought both for me. I was speechless. I said thank you. But I was still speechless. Nobody has ever done anything like that for me before. If I went back upstairs empty handed I knew I would be verbally attacked by my bio-father. Now I was safe. Out of harms way you could say.

Finally after a couple dozen doctors, several MRI, many xrays, bottle after bottle of meds, I have true diagnosis about my back...

ankylosing spondolitis (AS) aka Bamboo Back. Its a painful progressive chronically inflammatory disease that is genetic based. Yes, I have the slipped discs from the accident..which is what progressed the flare up of the AS. I wont get better...but we can slow the progression and treat the symptoms.

I am so relieved..its not in my head. No one is going to call me a hypochondriac again. My sister and her children and my daughter all have to go in to see if they test positive for the antigen.

Now that we know what it is, we can stop trying to treat the wrong thing. Want to know why land PT wasnt working for me and sometimes made it worse? Its conta indicated for this disease! Water therapy tho is best for it...

I have new meds..and have an appt with water therapy next week...

I am so grateful!!!!

Today I am very grateful for a life of love and relative understanding that I grew up with.

Every day I see examples in my students of how life could have been, of how it is for so many.

Yesterday one of my students mothers came to school and withdrew them from our school, without any prior notice. It turns out that this students step-father has been beating the mother. The student already deals with a number of physical and mental issues causing delays in their education and difficulty in their life. How terrible to also have to deal with the emotional effects of an abusive parent.

Today I gained a new student on a temporary basis, while his usual teacher is out with pneumonia, he refuses to work with the substitute that is in the classroom. I was briefed on the child and it made me so sad. He has physical problems which make it hard for him to write for long periods of time and so qualifies for special education even though he is academically on par with other students. What is so hard for this student is that he lives with his grandparents because his mother is a drug addict and his father is in and out of prison. Dad comes around often enough to be a bad influence, but little more.

That said, I am grateful for my Mormon, overbearing, protective, smothered upbringing. My parents love me, maybe not unconditionally but they truly love me. They always provided for me and encouraged my emotional and educational development. To many children don't get that.

I'm grateful for my love...

She is always there when I need her.. She holds me together when I am fraying apart.. She gives me room when I need to be strong... She waits until I *schedule* my break down.. understanding my need for control.. says.. *Your plummings leaking again..* when I leak tears, because I don't want to give into them...

Then in the night.. she wraps that big strong arm around me, pulls me into her tight, and I let everything that I'm been holding at bay out.... All the pain, all the fear, all the sorrow.. It's all poured out on to her shoulder...

She is my rock, my foundation, my strong right arm...

I am enternally grateful that she allowed me to peel her like an onion.. finding her layers.. letting me learn her... trust her, love her beyond compare...

*For the opportunity to go back to school full time and have the chance, at this stage in my life, to put my skills and my knowledge to good use doing what I love!

*For all the positive things in my life...

*for the fact that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE school and always thought I would absolutely hate it. Wrongo G! :winky:

*for my health, my family's health, my friends health

*for my awesome pups that make me laugh out loud on a daily basis; and the unconditional love and lots of little kisses I get when having a bad day.

*for a job that allows me to take time off to go to school and still get paid.

*for this BFP, and all of the family and friends I have here, that offer their support and love ALL of the time....

*finally, I am thankful that volleyball season starts next week and I get to play in the sand!

For the many, many blessings in my life, I am thankful today and always for...

my family ~ for as dysfunctional as they are, the unconditional love is always there.

my friends, near & far. Even though life in general or the miles keep us apart, we are often in eachother's thoughts & always close in heart.

my jobs. As much as I complain about working for "the man" or about the crazy people at BANGO, I know that they provide me with security, and the ability to play as hard as I work.

my continued good health (and for the ability to take steps to improve it), and for the good health of my loved ones.

the beautiful sunshine that warms my skin and nourishes my soul.

music that speaks when the words fail me, and for igniting wonderful memories of people, times & places.

the ocean breeze on my face, that brings instant peace to my life.

the power of positive thinking that takes over my spirit, and helps me see the best in situations, people and myself.

I was sitting in my office, paying bills, concentrating on the paperwork in front of me when suddenly I saw a flurry of winged activity and
BAM !!!

A bird hit the bay window. Hard.

I was startled and looked outside to see a Robin fluttering her wings.
She came to rest in a small divot and flattened herself into it.
She was panting. I didn't know birds panted.
She was flat, guarded and dazed. I watched her, wanting to check on her, and knowing if I did it would add to her trauma.

And she kept panting. Her little body was shaking with each breath.
Then her head slowly dropped, her eyes started closing and her little body quieted. And I thought...actually I blurted :

"C'mon Baby, don't die..."

and she just faded.

A minute or two later she twitched and her eyes jerked open. Nothing around. She closed her eyes and her little head dropped again. Same thing... a little bird jerk, eyes popped open and she looked around.

I watched her, and watched over her for 20 minutes before she wobbled to her little stick legs, and flew into a nearby tree.

That was one tough little bird.
Blessings abound -

Linus took his time and thought to guide me through the disk burning process...

SuperFemme offered to resize the pictures I needed to post on line...she spent more time than I am comfortable with getting them to fit into the online application dimensions...

this both, from people I have not, and may never, meet in "real life"....and yet the assistance has had a major impact (positive) on my real life...a clear and tangeable overlap...

a great friend came in from santa cruz in the morning to help me out with a step in the process....I had another beloved helper as well...

all in all I am thankful for the generous, kindhearted, and open-handed help I got in the process...

Although a home is simply bricks and mortar to many, it was so much more to me.

I have to let it go now. Somehow I want to embrace this home with arms wide open and whisper... I am thankful to you as you have sheltered me in times of happiness, sadness and lonliness. I am going in a different direction now. Following the light of the moon and the sun as I am led to a new plane.

My prayer for you.

May the Creator that dwells in all things come forward and fill this home.
I ask that this house be a sanctuary for all those who shall enter in the days to come.
I ask that good thoughts and good actions emanate from this home.
May this home bring comfort and healing for all who may live here in the days to come.
May this home be a healing center of light and love.
I ask this in the name of the most holy Creator.

I have packed my bags. Tried to cull through some of the pain and hurt and gently send it out into the Universe for healing. Culled through memories we made, happy and sad. Some are now stored in vintage wrapped boxes to be placed upon a shelf for another generation to peruse and wander through. They have been lived, these memories. I am so happy you gave me the shelter in which to experience them. Yes, you are bricks and mortar...but many don't know you have a soul, too. I wish you well, my dear friend. Whoever dwells here will be blessed by love and compassion. Treat them as you have treated me. Farewell. And continue to stand strong through the winds of change.
