I just thought of how nice it would be to introduce ourselves and get to know our fellow floridians!

My name is Kat aka/ Ally_J2005 from the other site. I live in Pinellas Co. Fl. I'm originally from NY & I 've been here 7yrs. I have no plans of returning to the cold n snow ..lol.. I like meeting new people and having friends.

I'm hoping that maybe some of us can meet for lunch or dinner n just hang out or maybe some of you on the east coast can connect and get together :hangloose: Good Luck !!

I am pleasantly surprised to hear about that. I will be moving next month and hoping to find a place closer in than Port Richey. Was thinking about maybe Palm Harbor area, but don't know a lot about these smaller towns on this side of the state.

Jesse - I can highly recommend Gulfport, a.k.a. "P-Town South", as one of the most gay-friendly places around to live. Population is about 33% queer and it is one of the few towns in Florida that has a Human Rights Ordinance that not only includes gays, lesbians and bisexuals, but is extended to transgendered folks as well. There is a lot of great info about Gulfport at http://gulfportflorida.us/

Carmin, one of these days you will actually make it down here to visit, sweetheart!

I would love to have a Floridian get-together while Sam or any other travelers are in the area if anyone would be interested in getting the ball rolling on it. The Gulf side is on the west coast of FL and borders the Gulf of Mexico. I can't help you much on facts about Miami other than it is on the East Coast of FL and is a big city. I'm certain there is lots of Queer/Gay friendly folks there I just can't direct you on that.

Going to throw out a suggestion: there is an awesome place right on the water in Gulfport called O'Maddy's (http://www.omaddys.com/) where Mr. Strutt and I take our daughter all the time. Great food (http://omaddys.com/01-2010_Menu.pdf) (the beer-battered onion rings are to die for), great view, reasonable prices, friendly and casual atmosphere...it is one of our favorite places to meet friends and hang out.

Not even a bar here, though there is an MCC Church fairly close to me (never been there.)

Hi everybody! I'm in Miami, Fl. Right by MIA. I would LOVE for us to get together and have a Southern State Bash. My only two problems would be traveling (I am pretty much wheelchair bound) and how much would accomodations be. I live in a condo with a bunch of elderly people, and I don't want any coronaries on my conscience. lol But I really do hate the fact that almost all the B-F bashes are no where even CLOSE to where I am. You could take Yucko with you seeing as he is an experienced trapper now and all. I actually think his "bite" was from the thorny bushes that lined the lake, but don't tell him I said that. And, of course, the rest of us make a darn fine support group. You couldn't ask for better circumstances, Jo!

P.S. The gator he caught was very, very small. Not much bigger than a fish, if truth be told. I don't even think it had teeth yet - MAYBE baby teeth. Don't tell him I said that, either.

Ms. Jo - I know your move date is up in the air, but do you have a date you are shooting for (other than a month ago, lol)? We definitely need to have a "welcome Jo and Abigail Crabby to Florida" party when you are both here!

Only two days until vacation for me...woooohoooo!!! I love what I do with a passion, but I always take a much-needed break every three months or so. We aren't doing anything special except go to Orlando and then to my parents' for a few days. I looked at cruises since they are so inexpensive right now, but I wasn't comfortable being too far afield while my dad is recuperating, even though he is doing extraordinarily well.

Wednesdays are my late day, 1:00-9:00, so I am going to chill for a bit before I take Katie to her babysitter and get to work. I don't like working such a late night, but I have so many clients from Tampa/Bradenton/Sarasota that I offer one late night a week...that way, those who work have the opportunity to get across the bay for hair stuff without always giving up their weekends.

You aren't kidding on the "month ago"....actually I was shooting for late spring...then June....then July 1...ugh. It's a nightmare.

Basically we're on hold until we hear from the bank about our offer....then it's a few weeks until we can close on the house and I can move. I would even toss stuff in storage and go early, but it's what to do about the critters :seeingstars:

That is human nature. You had quite a few people planning on coming from out of town for the get-together. Did you not feel that any explanation at all was due? Even a simple, "it's a family/personal issue", would have sufficed and all this could have been avoided.

You say that people shouldn't conjecture, but yet you scold others for not considering it may have to do with a surgery your dad had 2 weeks ago. Would that not also be making an assumption? Regardless, I hope your father's convalescence goes well. My father had the same procedure a few years ago and did very well. I hope yours does, too.

If they are into nature, there is a nature preserve in Bradenton, just south on I-275 called Emerson Point...You can see Tampa Bay and the Sunshine Bridge from the shore. There is also Amelia Island in Bradenton, it is on Route 64 or State Road 64, it has been a few years since I have been to Bradenton. You also have all of the horse farms in Ocala, FL and International Drive in Orlando that is within driving distance.
