The Niagara area is nice...well aside from Niagara Falls (the town, not the falls). A girl can only take so many wax museums!

I used to live in Toronto, but I moved to Sarnia for looooooove a few years ago. Still getting over the shock of living here v living there.

Kingston is cool. I haven't been in for-freaking-ever but there is (was?) a store there that I was obsessed with. Is Phase 2 (huge second hand clothing store) still there? I loved that place!

Maybe we can plan a get together for interested B/F folks that reside in the SW Ontario and Detroit area sometime in 2011?

I posted a shot of a few of us who met up last month. Good times and hope we can do it again sometime in the New Year!

A bunch of us are heading out to the London, Ontario Lesbian Film Festival, April 15-17 (but I think the 16th, the Saturday would be best to meet up!).

I've been there before, and they have great films--Canadian and International--as well, there is a dance on the Saturday night: *Dukes of Drag and Women's Dance*.

If interested in meeting up with us, please PM Betenoire or myself and we can decide upon a time to meet outside the theatre etc.

Here is the festival website: http://www.llff.ca/index.html

Unfortunately, the line up for the actual films are not yet posted.

Come join us for some queer camaraderie!

And I -think- ABb is also coming with?

I know me and Nick will be there for the Saturday films. I would -like- to go to the dance and to see the drag kings, so I'm just going to go ahead and put my foot down and say we'll be there as well. Because I like to play at being the boss.

I just called their host hotel: Delta Armouries in London and booked my reservation.

http://www.deltahotels.com/en/hotels/ontario/delta-london-armouries/

I received the festival room rate of 89 dollars (this is a NICE hotel!) per night.

I had also joined (didn't remember that I did this!) and therefore receive FREE wireless access for the nights you stay if you join the Delta Privilege Club prior to booking. I don't know about anyone else, but free wireless is huge for me! So, if interested, you can book for a really great hotel and join the hotel club membership first before you book.

There is no code that you can input directly into the hotel website, so I would just call the hotel directly.

I just asked for the rate for the London Lesbian Film Festival and they have a block of rooms available for the really good rate of 89.00 (tax not included) for a sweet hotel.

This is really good considering I stayed recently at a highway hotel for more than that and this is a historic hotel in the heart of downtown London!

:)

(no, I am not affiliated with this festival!)

Damn - I don't think I'll be able to make this. But it does sound like a lot of fun. I'll try to see what I can do.

Hey Salty! How are you doing? I love Port Credit - but it has been a while since I've done anything more than a drive along Lakeshore Road.

Sure you can make it!

If you bring a carload of people it'll cost less to travel -and- I'll be your bff.

C'mon, I used to drive from Toronto to London -all- the time just to go to a bar for a couple of hours and then go home.

Betenoire - I'll see if I can switch what I have planned that day (sporting event in Toronto) but I'm not sure if I will be able to. *sigh*
I don't have a problem with the drive - - I used to do Toronto to Windsor all the time.....when I lived in Toronto. Now I live near the Falls - the drive to London isn't bad at all.
But, like I said, I have something else scheduled already. If I can switch and make it to the festival then perhaps I'll get a hotel.

We'd let you in, too. Canada likes when new people move in!

But when you get here the government will be an asshole and refuse to let you work in your actual profession. We'll make it insanely hard for you to get certified at ____ here, so you will be stuck driving a taxi for the foreseeable future.

(I've never really understood that. I mean, if someone is (for example) a doctor it's easier for them to move to Canada - but then we don't let them BE a doctor once they get here.)

And YOU do such a nice job reinforcing that one :D :canadian:

Well, you know. I hope that if I talk about how nice we are that people won't notice that I'm not personally nice.

Bumping an old-ish thread, but have any of you been to Sparta, Ontario? I am researching my roots, and found that several ancestors are buried in the Friends (Quaker) cemetery there. My g-g grandfather surely had a hand in building the Quaker meeting hall in the 1860's. I suspect that if I went there, I'd find my kin. In fact, I'll probably have to come up at some point for research :).

Cool Morningstar , I have camped at the Cedars too ages ago!!

Well I think we should put it out there and see how many folks really would be interested in a Canadian gathering. I think the location would likely be in Ontario as it is central, but I think the "invite or show of interest has to go on the most visited Canadian thread. That seems to be the Canadian news thread? Suggestions please :)

We do get back to Toronto on a (somewhat) semi-regular basis. Lately it's just been for appointments, errands or the yearly escapades known as Pride & the Dyke March ;)

Okay so we Canadians know that Summer is very short, so who would be interested in getting together either in the GTA or in a mutually agreed upon area. I suppose it depends from which direction people are coming as to what area that might be.

So, let's discuss it and make it happen....

I'm in London overnight for a workshop and just happened to stumble upon RibFest! I was going for a walk to look for a place to eat for lunch, and I asked some guy what the festival was down the road. Turns out it is a HUGE rib festival. I had some delicious ones at one of the vendors at the very end--staffed only by women (at the time I was there). Anyway, if you are looking for something to do, it has lots of different kiosks for shopping, food, and they even had a couple of bands playing.

Just thought I'd put it out there if anyone was interested!

Happy Summer SW Ontario B/F folks! <--speaking of: As I was walking, I spotted a young, retro, foxy femme-type getting out of a taxi right at the entrance of the festival. I glanced at her appreciating her funky style and, coming out of the taxi next, was a spiky haired mod-looking butch. It's always nice to see our people--it's SO rare where I live (Windsor).

We need an idea where people are so we can determine a central place, it can be a get together for an afternoon which allows us time to meet and have some fun. If this goes well then perhaps we can organize a more lengthy get together. Let me know what you think.
