Reunion Redux 2010

I've been hesitant to make this post because doing this always feels like putting a period on the event for me but I want to do this while everything is fresh in my mind.

Anyone who went to Reunion knows how amazing it was, how we all found love and recovery from all the shit that life throws at us. I think we all knew we were in a magical place, full of love and healing and that amazing togetherness that can only happen with people you love, kinda love, or want to love.
There was effort, acceptance, and honesty at this event and I am way past finding the right words for all of it.

I cried so many times this weekend. I had to leave the room during the Meet and Greet because I stood on the little entrance steps and looked out over the room and just lost it. Seeing everyone there hugging, kissing, and embracing one another and thinking back to all of the doubt I had about this thing ever really working sent me into such a grateful joy that I couldnt contain it.
I cried again when Diva sang "Somewhere" during the Cabaret. It was one of those really messy hitching, snotty cries where you arent at all in control of your emotions and you just dont give a fuck if its going to run your mascara or make your eyes puffy. Still, I ran for the bathroom because those tears were personal and only meant to be had in the solace of a bathroom with a nice heavy door.

She said "Somewhere....there's a place for us" and I fucking believed her. I believed we had all found that place not only that evening but every time we log in here.

I wrote about this on Facebook but I'll say it here, I suck at accepting compliments and congratulations. I suck so bad at it that I, in fact, almost always shrug it off when someone gives me a personal thanks for starting this community - I almost always tell people that without them showing up, we are nothing but a domain name and a vbulletin license and I still mean that but also accept that gratitude and cradle it in my heart with quiet repose.

I didnt know when I started building the framework for this site if it would be a "fuck and run" thing or not. I didnt know if 6 of my friends would be the only people here to ever really show up. I didnt know if we would all be able to get moved in with Uhaul trucks and set up house without great pain or crushing hope for a new day. I didnt know what the future would bring but apparently it saw fit to make a place for Reunion - and the 80 people who registered. It saw fit to grow this community into a massive love-fest with potential so great that I still, at this point, cant fathom all of the possibilities.

During the Cabaret, I opened my palms and held them up to my face when nobody was looking and whispered a promise to myself. I'll now make that same promise to the community that these doors will remain open as long as there is breath in my body, no matter the cost or consequence.

I am here for the long haul and I know that many of you are too. I accept your grace, your trust, and your hope and will watch over it all in determined strength because that is what you all give to me every time you choose to move forward with love here.

Together, we will do great, great things and I can only hope that the world is ready for us. <3

Fishinabaggie and Outlaw - The Sunday time we spent together was just perfect and I have nothing but love and respect for you both (and the chest penis!!)

DJ Debbi T and Kellz - Arkansas will never be the same when we join forces! You both are fucking amazing and such good, honest people. The talent in you both is staggering.

Juney and Kat - We miss you both so much :( Having you both in our home was magical and filled my heart in huge ways that I cant fully describe. Im forgetting some folks and will write more in just a bit but know that I love what we have done as a community and love that we have all come together to choose a new family with each other.

Things went really well this year as far as events, etc. The feedback in the community meeting was unanimous that folks really liked having the cabaret in the Hotel and of course, the Coffee Klatsch.

We already know that there will be a lot more folks in attendance next year, so with that in mind, we will be assigning chairs and committees for the various events/thingy's.

If you are interested in chairing an event, please submit that to me via PM. I will make a list then in a couple of months, we will be gathering chairs and getting volunteers for each event so the load is shared.

Committee Chairs:

REGISTRATION! (How did I forget that?)
Meet & Greet / Welcome Wagon -
Karaoke Wrangler -
Femme Clothing Swap -
Butch/Trans Bonding - (These can be separate or together based on need)
Singles lunch - Diva with a Co-Chair because, well, she needs to share her mad skillz. (I'll tell you why lunch in a minute)
Speed Dating -
Couples Lunch -
Cabaret - Just G (He already spoke to Medusa about this in LR)
Coffee Klatch - Wolfy (But she'll need some folks to boss around)
Table Hosts (This was pretty amazing and we want to do it again)
Raffle - (Tommi & LeftWriteFemme if they say yes)
Accounting Team - Responsible for money counts
Concierge(s) - Responsible for errands or assisting members in getting things they forgot or need. These folks should have a vehicle and be willing to come into town on Wednesday to pick up water/sodas, etc.
Security -
Photographer & Assistants - We think we might need two of these based on how many folks wanted photos this year.
HERF - Linus
Vendor Chair (We had many folks asking about selling their stuffs next year. Will be responsible for scheduling coverage of the vendor space and securing it)


I might have to come back and add, but those are the ones on top of my still fuzzy head. Again, if you are interested in chairing these committees, please do not state it in the thread, or start any threads, send it to me via PM.

The date is out of the bag, but we've got a few other really exciting things to hammer down before we can announce them.

Why lunches? Well, we had a lot of feedback on how hard it was for folks to enjoy their dinners and then rush back to the Hotel to get ready for the events, so we are in the process of negotiating dinners (yes, we will have vegetarian and vegan things too) for both the Cabaret and the Prom. I know Friday was crazy busy for all of us, and it would be nice to be able to have lunch, then just relax for a bit afterwards. This is subject to change based on what they will offer us, but at the community meeting, people seemed to feel that they wouldn't mind paying $10-$15.00 per person for a nice dinner at the event.

AND ALSO! At the community meeting, we discussed how to do a payment plan for folks, and I have volunteered to keep the spreadsheet and am looking for a 2nd set of eyes for that, I will be creating it in google docs so it can be shared, so you'll need to have a gmail account. We will post more details on this soon for those of you who want to start planning early.

Thank you again for your participation this year, some of you stepped up at the last minute to fill in our gaps (Logan, Pixie, Cara, InfiniteFemme) And I would like to publicly apologize AGAIN to NiceGuy for giving him so much flack for the kitchen appliances, we actually used that goddamn blender on Sunday night because the Hotel Bar broke theirs. I have mad love for your anal retentive little ass!

I took any loose change I had today and plunked it into My big yellow smiley face mug as My way of saying "That's it damnit, I'm going next year!". I've already started looking into My passport and everything needed to get it, so that process will begin ASAP. I'm going to be looking for a nice cross-stitch project that I can create for the Raffle next year (this was something I wanted to do for this year but life got in the way), and I wanna put My name in for volunteering cuz I'm not sure how good of a chair person I'd be for ay of the activities so I'll stick with volunteering :D

Concierge(s) - Responsible for errands or assisting members in getting things they forgot or need. These folks should have a vehicle and be willing to come into town on Wednesday to pick up water/sodas, etc.

Not all places are smoking. Just certain ones (I think I found 3 out of 20 restaurants/bars). Mallards actually has a great filter as it doesn't keep any smell from what I could tell.

I'm not so much concerned about odor as I am concerned about second-hand smoke. I think it's pretty rude to smoke in close proximity to non-smokers and always make a point of sitting/standing down-wind from them and if I'm walking down the sidewalk smoking and people with children are coming toward me I'll walk on the grass and hold my cigarette way up in the air so i don't get smoke on the kids.

Mommy's almost always say "thank you". I love when people say that to me.
