View Full Version : Anyone for WoW?

So is there anyone here that plays WoW? (World of Warcraft) I'm on Echo Isles and my main is a level 74 nelf druid named Aurial. If anyone plays, feel free to say hi. Maybe we can start our own guild in game. Now that would be cool.

I've got a couple of characters on Kilrogg: a level 35 Tauren Warrior and a level 80 Tauren Hunter. I dunno if I trust you Alliance types.. *eyes SnowSong carefully* :sunglass:

Mare and I have a few Horde toons on the Nazjatar realm, but we've stopped playing for the season. We usually start up again in the winter months.
I have a 70 undead warrior, a level 61 undead warrior, a low level blood elf hunter and an even lower level blood elf paladin.
When we sign back up, we're finally getting the Wrath expansion. (We're a bit behind expansion-wise.)
:)
For the Horde!~

I like playing belfs and taurens. I had a hard time getting into the undead. I like their history but their whole area is so sad looking. I think I would do great rolling an undead for RP. The potential for backstory is amazing.

I hate the undead's posture! (Of all things, lol...) They are always so schlumpy and depressed looking, but I actually like their creepy environments. The quests are more interesting.
Taurens start out in the Barrens and I find the Barrens to be soooooooo boring. It gets more interesting when you are a higher level.
I've 'tried' Alliance when my server was down, but I couldn't get into it.
I am thinking of starting a RP toon... maybe I will when we sign up again.

I really like playing nelfs. Their areas are so beautiful and natural. My favorite place is Auberdine.

What about the BElfs?
Catalysm should be out this fall but I'd seriously would like to see if we could create a BF guild on a server, even RP, and have some fun with it. :)

I enjoy the BElfs, particularly my hunter.
The BF server sounds like a great idea - would be nice to play with "family". :)

I posted this question in the other WoW thread - but has anyone upgraded to Pandaria yet?
BTW - Best Buy has the expansion for 19.99 - those interested may want to check their local stores.

Oddly enough, I JUST installed WoW (not Pandaria- I'm talking brand new to the game). I got a groupon for Wrath of the Lich and two months game time for $16... just downloaded it, and I'm SOOOOO lost.
I'm not brand new to RPGs- I used to play on a couple of MUDs back in the day... but this high tech stuff, whoa. I chose a human Alliance Hunter (I know, I know, so boring of me), then logged off in a panic when he (I mean I?) began shooting arrows at the training dummy repeatedly, and I was afraid I'd use up all my ammo, and I don't know how to stop, so yeah... I logged off. Heh.
So at least I know how to log off. Help? I suppose this is where reading that 126 page Getting Started manual might help....except it's 126 pages. :|

Well, the good news is - you won't run out of ammo. At least you shouldn't. Blizzard got rid of the need to purchase ammo - but I don't know if that applies to versions of the game before Cataclysm.
It's kind of tough to walk you through the game, my suggestion is - practice. A lot. Since you are new and probably Level 1, there isn't much damage you could do to yourself. You'll probably die a lot, but who hasn't? Once you get the swing of things, I'm sure you'll find it addicting like most WoW players. :)
Oh and - I haven't played too many MMO's, but I've found that so far, WoW stands alone. Between the graphics and the playing content, it's pretty versatile and should keep you busy for hours on end. :)

Um, how do I figure out which server I'm on? I created a new character, a warrior- thought I'd go as simple as possible. Amazingly, I leveled... no clue how to sell back all those damn balroc skins. Or whatever the hell I just killed 6 of.
Oh, and when I enter fight mode (um, when the circle turns red), is there a way to refine my fighting? Am I just locked in the roll of the dice at that point?

Pandaria...well...i've purposely avoided following the releases because I don't think I can afford to play anymore. Now I might have to do some research.

When you get to this screen (select character screen), look at the top right corner, it will tell you your server name - this one says Aerie Peak.
http://wiki.norganna.org/w/images/c/c1/WoWCharScreen.jpg
When you say - refine your fighting - what do you mean?
As you level, you will gain new talents and fighting skills and essentially it will take practice for you to become proficient.
That in itself is a mastery in the making - you may want to consult your guide book to explain fighting techniques/ talent trees, etc.
When you are a low level, there aren't many fighting options. As you level up, you will get more options.
Oh and go to a vendor to sell anything you might have picked up - be careful not to sell items such as weapons or clothing that is better than what you already have.

Very helpful, thanks! I'm on Sen'jin. My character is named JDthunderarms. I picked it after my first 38 name choices were unavailable. *grumble*
I just earned "Charge", but no clue how to use it. But when I posted previously, I was specifically talking about how sometimes in the middle of a fight, both characters just kind of stop and stand there and pant. I know that there is built-in recovery time between swings and such, but sometimes it seems longer, so I just wanted to see if there was something I should be doing to speed it up (if it was waiting on a command from me or something).

If you go into your spellbook icon, you can click and drag any icon (do not pick passive ones) to your menu bar on the bottom of the screen. This will allow you to click on that particular talent (such as charge) and use it immediately. There are cool downs to each "spell", and the icon will give you an indication of when it's ready again. Be sure to click on your opponent first, then click charge. If you are too far away, it won't work - so you have to be within a reasonable distance.
http://gmaskew.com/pictures/wow/oldinterface.jpeg
(See these bars on the bottom? That's where you put your new "spells")
All I play are warriors for the most part - charge will allow you to charge your opponent and stun him for a few seconds while you get in some hits. Again, because you are low level, it will seem like it takes forever to kill something. I love charge. And intercept. But that will come later.
If you click your computer looking icon, a settings menu will display - you can add more bars to your menu bar - I usually set it up so I have bars on the bottom and the side. Believe me, you will need all of them eventually.

Awesome! Going back to try that.
Found a vendor, and I see how to buy...but can't figure out how to sell. I think what's making this aggravating is that it's intuitive enough to figure out what I'm supposed to do next, but not intuitive enough to know how to do it. I can see how this will suck up all lots of time once I get my sea legs!

Right click the item you want to sell, or merely drag it to the vendor. If you sell something by accident, go into the buyback tab and get it back.
It's really not that hard once you do get the hang of it. Don't give up :) I'm looking forward to some whoop ass! ;)

Okay...so... I'm level 40, so I'm getting the hang of this game... but I can't help but think I'm missing a LOT. For instance.. I was level 38 before I figured out I could be getting around on a damn horse rather than walking everywhere. And now I've got a faster horse, so I guess I'm up to speed (har har) on that aspect of the game.
I'm completely solo... well, I did accept an invite to join a guild, gnome pride or some such, but I can't see the perks. Oh, and it's not like I know how to talk on the different channels anyway. I see trade, general, guild channels... then non-player stuff shows up there too (We're under attack! We're under attack!), so I end up tuning it all out.
I did find myself in a dungeon the first (and last) time I ventured into the Badlands. They were easily killed solo, but after about 30 of them with no end in sight, I got a little bored and annoyed, and bailed. What do you get at the end of a dungeon, anyway?
I confess that /dance never fails to amuse me. Must learn more commands like that. Or maybe how to talk to others.

Dungeons get you elite gear (blue or purple in the name colour). And generally you go in with a group. Guilds can add a lot and make things more interesting. That's where finding a server with a few of us on might be good.

Funny, I started a new character (wait, they're called toons?) on Area52 last night, an Orc Warrior. Within 30 seconds of starting, I was asked to join a guild... and twice more (by a different guild each time) within 10 minutes later. What the hey? Is the server that friendly, or just overpopulated?
Also, can someone explain guild levels to me? One guild was 3, another was 14. Do I hold out for the highest number to invite me? ...lol

I found this site after doing some research on alliance/horde ratios http://wow.realmpop.com/us.html RyRy and I are on bronzebeard and I know that's a little alli heavy but a good realm. I'm willing to start fresh on a new realm if we all decide on a place. To transfer my lvl 90 to a new server and change factions to horde would cost $55..ouch. If there are enough of us, we could start our own guild. I'm down for whatever, just excited to have some good folks to roll with.

A lot of guilds now have an auto invite add on if they want to recruit people and add members. The higher the number, like the one guild was 14, means the guild has more perks for members. 25 is the highest and you get the most perks. There are different things you can buy from the guild once your reputation is friendly, honored, revered, and finally exalted. it's become really easy to get guild rep now with the new expansion. I might just have to hop on area 52 today and start a hordie lol what was your toon's name?

Okay, it's offish. I'll be making my way back after christmas. I bought my partner a trial to see if she likes it. Either way, I am down. I"m on Area52, alliance. A52 is REALLY horde-heavy though. I'd like to change servers but I hear that's expensive. Is it worth rolling a new toon? I remember putting in hours to get it to where it's at now...
Is there a relatively balanced server that we are all on? (or that most of us are on?)
I think it costs about $25 to switch servers. We moved Mare's undead rogue/alchemist over to Area 52 when we decided that we wanted to stay on A52.
Do I hold out for the highest number to invite me? ...lol
You are going to get a lot of guild invites to the point where you are annoyed to no end. On my old server, I started my own guild for just Mare and I just to escape the invites. On A52, we decided to join a guild and am so glad we did because of the perks. Now my lower level toons can have guild gear (when you buy guild gear, you can use them between all of your toons - provided that the gear matches your toon - in other words, if you have a hunter, hunters can't wear mail or plate armor...)
The higher the guild level, the more perks you have access to. I suggest joining a level 25 just so you have access to all the perks - you level faster, acquire more gold from looting, etc..
RyRy and I are creating new toons on area 52 now lol now I guess the question is for the horde or for the alliance?
HORDE!!! I'm Lilybit and Mare is Itsipop. Both goblins on A52. :) Add us to your friends list because we will be playing VERY SOON! WOOT!!
On A52, I'm Uglybass. I'm happy to jump over to bronzebeard if that's where we're all headed... sorry to hear about unpleasant A52 memories, Andy!
I got pummeled with guild invites again today- joined one just to be taken out of the running. I made sure it was level 25, though...heh.
Thanks for answering all my questions, y'all. I know I could look a lot of this stuff up, but when I do that, somehow I never find the direct shortcut answer.
And yep, NJFemmie... I've had a WoW dream. :|
Ha Ha! Told you! Now wait until you are driving somewhere and you pass a wooded area. You'll swear you see mounds you can loot and Azeroth beasts running about. It's sad. Welcome to the world of geekdom. :/
You can always leave your guild a join another one if you aren't happy. Level 25 will get you far more than a lesser guild.
I'm reading that some are having a bad time on Area 52 and I'm sorry to hear that. I felt the same way about Nazjatar which is why I switched servers. I love A52, but then again, I don't get too involved with interacting with others. Our guild leaves us alone and doesn't pressure us to engage in dungeons and such, and for the most part, our experiences have been far more pleasant than Naz. And I love the fact I can quest and not get ganked by Alliance. I just love it when a toon that is much higher than you kills you. :/ I mean seriously??? Like I really had a chance to defend myself, yanno?

I'm ally, but might talk my partner into starting toons on bronzebeard. I have some bad memories associated with A52 that I'd be more than happy to leave behind. :)
So ... everyone is moving to Bronzebeard?? :(
I would start new toons on there in case A52 is down, but I've come so far with my toon on A52. I've finally got my gear level up to a respectable level, I have my mechanohog, Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth (http://www.wowwiki.com/Reins_of_the_Traveler%27s_Tundra_Mammoth_%28Horde% 29) and Vial of the Sands mount .... and I am working on my PVE gear.
Anyone on A52 Horde - can you please list your names so I can add you? We are going to start playing either on Christmas Day or shortly thereafter.

My ally toon is on A52. I'm defs keeping her. I might roll a n00b toon on bronzebeard to see how i like it. My partner will be starting from scratch so this will be an experience. I think i'd like to give her the choice of starting from scratch with me or having me run her through dungeons on A52

I love that mounts are account wide now, my vial of the sands and everything is useable on any toon. The only think that didn't switch over for me if my chopper, I guess choppers will not switch to mechnohogs if you are on the opposite faction.

Yep as long as your toon meets the requirements and level youll be able to use all your mounts. and the ones you got from say horde faction will become alliance on said toon and vice versa.. even some my mounts i won from dungeon/raid transfers to other servers even. like geek said only my chopper didnt go to horde side. maybe will in future i dont know

Sweet! I love my goblin and am pretty proud that I've leveled her so nicely - but it's good to know that I can transfer my mounts in case I want to work on another one without spending a million gold buying new ones. Mare's toon made my mechanohog, I dread thinking how much grinding I'd need to do to get another one.
I so can't wait to play. Couple of more days ... just a couple of more days ....

Yay! We're back online and I think I am finding out that my warrior is no longer able to shoot crossbows and such. :( On the upside, I am in the process of my pet battles (kinda weird, but ok)... and I am getting used to the new interfaces.
I know there was a place that told you what your toon can do, i.e. shoot, etc... can't seem to find that anymore.
We plan on slowly working our way back since we have to get used to playing again - but anyone on A52 (Horde players) please feel free to add me - Lilybit.

They got more literal for weapons. As a hunter I can only use crossbows/bows/guns. No staves anymore. :( I used to have a cool one. I finally got back to LFR (gave up on PVP for this exp but might use one of my alt hunters for that). I still need to get my rogue and ally character to 90 (a task I'm not looking forward to doing).
What I do like is that Raids are now soloable (good for getting those old raids done)

Good to know about the raids.
I just started a pandaran monk - SHOOSHIE. (Feel free to add)
Very different playing style, but I'm getting the hang of it. I am working her to do damage. I am conflicted between tank or damage, but I chose damage for now. I also just made my way to Org with her. HORDE BABY!!
My 85 warrior is sitting in the Jade Forest - it does not look easy to level up. It seems like it's going to be a long and tedious journey - but Mare and I have been having fun reacquainting ourselves with our toons.

I decided to take my monk into Arathi Basin. Wow, I got my panda ass handed to me. I miss my warrior. I might start a new panda warrior toon when Mare decides She wants to start Her own panda (probably going to be a rogue, She loves being "sneaky"). :)
My WW monk is now a level 16. Even though it is a relatively easy toon to play, managing chi for optimum use is a bit tedious. So, maybe it's not that easy. I've tried playing other classes, but I seem to gravitate toward warriors. I'm not fond of leather or cloth wearers since they seem to die too easily for my taste - which is why I abandoned my mage and druid. I like mano-a-mano fighting - ranged fighters are a bit tough for me to grasp a handle on. I still have my hunter though - and am considering leveling her up if I don't get too into this panda thing.
The pet battles are interesting - and I love the fact that all toons share it. I snagged a little cub in the Barrens (appropriately named it Fangula). I know it's a common pet, but it's adorable and I felt bad for killing its momma. :| Now the little puss follows me around everywhere - he makes me smile. LOL, ugh. (God help me...)
Well, I did notice that A52 is not as friendly as I remember. The snarky remarks in trade never used to be so obnoxious. Trade chat has always been notorious for bullshit and trolling - but I did notice it got worse. Whatever. I rarely pay that much attention to it anyway.
I was happy to find that my guild didn't drop me considering we haven't been on for months. I would have been really disappointed if I lost my perks. They dropped one of my lowbies, but ehhhh - I use them as AH lackies anyway. I joined Soul Asylum when we transferred over and like them so far.

So Mare and I decided we were bored with dailies and that of the like and wanted something different. She took the leap and started a worgen toon (ack). As much as I really don't like the idea of being Alliance, I'm actually having a bit of fun with the change of scenery. (That was up until we had to attack Lady Sylvanas and our hearts started to ache... our very first toons were undead and allegiances run strong through our veins, lol).
I'm hoping the next patch will provide a bit more variety. We finally exalted with Klaxxi (and a few others) and I thought that would never end. :/ I've heard that grinding valor points are going to be easier and I hope so. I've never been much for daily quests, so this has been quite the challenge.
What is everyone else up to in the game?

I'm trying to get my Tauren Hunter entirely into Epic gear. So this has meant doing a few of the dailies as well as trying to get into raids and the like. I still have Nat to finish off (geez.. worst. drop. rate. evah.) and then want to work on another hunter that I think I'd use nearly exclusively in PVP.

Yeah, Nat is a pain in the ass to level. I thought maxing out fishing meant you didn't catch crap?
I managed to get a few epic items, but the grind is killing me. I'm thinking of holding off because the new ilevel is supposed to jump to 522? Ugh. Last year I managed to get my hands on some awesome gear (for my then level 85) - and I didn't even get to use most of it since it was rendered useless with the new expansion.

Anyhoo, it's changed a lot so I will be the Noobiest Noob of Nooblandia when I roll a new account (later this week. I'm trying to behave workwise.) It looks like everybody's ending up on bronzeage, so is there a Guild? Which side is it on?

LOL ... I think that should be the guild name (Nooblandia).
I am willing to start a new toon on another server if there is a definite plan to organize. I'd be willing to start with any faction.
I visited my old server yesterday after a long while - and I was one of three people in Org. THREE PEOPLE IN ORG! And they were from other servers. I flew around and found no one. I started singing "All By Myself...."

I say we find a 50/50 mix or horde heavy and go Horde for a BFP guild. :)
That or go to the server I'm on, where it's Alliance heavy but has a decent Horde group. Org is regularly busy during AMER hours.
On the plus side, I finally got my Taoren weapon so I could put the legendary gem on it that I had earned earlier. I'm thinking of getting one more epic item for my gear (trinket)

There is a site that can give info on server population.

Should give a good idea of horde vs alliance population
I'm waiting on the new patch before I start grinding for new gear.
I started a new DK (horde of course) and I've been busy working on her blacksmithing skill. Sucks for a DK profession-wise.

The question would be how much PvP we'd want to do versus PVE. The one disadvantage of highly populated 90 realms is that they tend to have those that complain about your ability rather than the fun of it all.

I moved from a (high level) PvP server to PvE because I found I enjoyed PvE much better. I'm "ok" at PvP but I admit I am not that great at it. I do it to grind for honor/justice. I can't stand going into a BG and subjecting myself to idiots complaining and name calling because GOD FORBID someone dies or drops a flag. (With that being said, I HATE WARSONG GULCH). I play for fun, some of these people seriously need lives and/or some type of therapy - talk about anger issues. No one seems to have any patience for the noobs.
Also - PvP realms means you are subject to constant (i can't think of the word) - death by high level toons, just 'cause they can.
I wasn't able to quest or farm without having some high level toon gank (there you go) my ass even though I was at least 20 levels lower. I dreaded the contested areas. Once I transferred to a PvE realm, breathing was easier.
I prefer PvE because you can toggle yourself as PvP if the mood strikes .. and you can always go into BGs and that of the like. Just a thought to consider.

Agreed but I've also seen the same behaviour in Raids (LFG). I've been booted because apparently I didn't pull my weight (I was 13th out of 25 so not sure where that came from and figure it was more about loot than anything else). I started on a PVP server (Kilrogg) and got ganked a few times. When I was high enough, I ensured that those that were attacked -- and I was close enough -- I'd go and help them. Ganking shouldn't be allowed, IMO (should only be able to attack someone no more than 5 levels below and how many ever levels above).

Some people have add-ons that tell you your "ranking" when in a group. It shows your melee damage abilities - so if you don't have enough dps, they boot you out. Personally, I think those should be banned - I find them to enable bias. People tend to forget that they had to start somewhere - and at one point or another, everyone was a "noob" or not as skilled as some. The better gear is obtained through Raid Finder, but good luck trying to get in. That's what I always hated about this game.
That is the difference between PvP and PvE - ganking is controllable in PvE. You can always set yourself as PvP in a PvE realm if you so desire - but it's nice that by default, you can't be touched.
