Anyone glued to the TV on Sunday nights to watch Mad Men?

I've been a die hard fan since Season 1 Episode 1 and I would love to talk about the show with other BFP folks.

I have some theories about Betty Draper Francis that I think would find some favor here.

Let me know if you're interested in discussing this great show.

I'm all in. I'm more the on-demand type guy. Non-conformist. Outrageously good show!

Been there since Episode 1, too!

One look at Joan and I was hooked, but it's Don Draper who keeps me coming back for more.

Joan is admittedly hot and I love how she's finally letting her intelligence and in-charge nature take hold. Gotta love that.

I'm more of a Peggy fan myself. The innocence, brains and unpredictable boldness is a powerful combination.

It's great seeing such developed male and female characters.

I'm hoping Peggy's unhappiness with the art guy (who shares my last name, unfortunately) will mean that they are going to somehow bring Sal back. What do you guys think?

I grew up at this time. I find it amazingly accurate. The drinking. The sexism. The repression. The angst.

I am a new devotee.

I love Joan. I love that Draper hired someone to slap him during sex. Does that make me a pervert?

I'm also a child of that time. I think Sally Draper is about a year older than me. Every time there's a scene with Sally and Bobby glued to the TV, watching the 60s unfold in their living room, I can relate. I saw all of that stuff on TV - demonstrations, police brutality, murders, assassinations, etc. When Betty said to Bobby, after he said he was bored, "go bang your head against the wall," I remember hearing that too, though my mother was a lot nicer than Betty.

I was Don Draper in a previous life. And parts of that character still feel pretty familiar to me today.

And Joan...words cannot describe that woman. Good. Lord.

Yes, I squeeeeeeeeeeeeed when I saw Sky King on the little b/w. Took me back. I love Joan's clothes. I have to admit that my high school grad picture I have a "Peggy back combed and flip on the end do". Funny I love and wear the clothes and shoes but when it comes to "living in the 50's" no, thank you. I would never wish to go back to that oppressive culture.

Once I walked into a state legislative meeting in a dress like Joan's, heh. Not only does she carry off the look, she owns her body and is getting more comfortable in her power...I was 35, tall, buxom impeccably dressed and in my power...Joan is a woman coming into her power and totally aware of her body. (I loved her reaction to the Japanese contingent. It is "well they are there aren't they?" And also the disdain that flicked across her face at the sexism. The interesting thing is that during this time the ad agencies also created the "image" of the perfect woman. An image they continue to create although it is unreachable by many of us.

P.S. I know a lot of perverts. I agree.

I think we all have a little Don Draper in us, certainly much about the character resonates with me, though I like to think I've grown up a little more than he has.

Don's internal struggles are worn oddly close to the skin, which is part of why he's so compelling to me. This season is already showing his demons catching up to him.

Is it wrong I wanted to be straddling Draper and slapping his face? He is hot and wrong and fucked up and dangerous and careless and damn... lol

So here's my theory about Betty Draper Francis.

I think she's a Daddy's Girl and Don just didn't fulfill the Daddy role the way Henry (who's older and more nurturing in a way) does for her. Clearly, she is one messed up little girl, but a little girl nonetheless, which I think is why she's so hard on her own daughter.

Any thoughts?

The great thing is, it's on AMC which is a free cable channel. No premium charges. And you can get the DVDs for the first 3 seasons so you can be caught up.

well.........you are gonna have to get Showtime...........the new season of Dexter is coming.........

Betty is just a mean ass narcissistic jealous bitch. I'm curious about the story line for Sally (the older public masturbating child). I'm going for being molested or she is just pissed off as shit for being treated like shit.

I also am seeing Don's drinking getting heavier and that may be a problem for him.....yeah yeah yeah........all the men.....all of them are drunks but it was the 60's. It was the time of smoking in buildings and the 3-5 Martini lunch on the expense account.
