It occured to me that I have been hearing bits and pieces of (99.9% positive!) feedback about the Reunion in Little Rock but that it might be nice to have a dumping ground for all of the feedback.

A few discussion points:

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service?

What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff?

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas?

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite?

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection?

Was your experience an overall positive experience?

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year?

This thread is meant as a way for myself and Jack, Juney, Tommi, Arwen, Bubblin', Logan, and the many other people who helped guide the process to get a well-rounded view of what we did right and what we need to work on.
Your constructive thoughts welcome! We want to make your experience in 2011 even better so tell us what you thought!

Some things I will want to address for next year:

* Better stage setup and lighting for Cabaret
* More airflow in meeting rooms if needed
* Bigger space for Community Chat
* Vendor Space

as far as the stage, the hotel should have a AV dept. they can hook you up. let me know if you need help with that sort of thing.

air is always good!

space is good too!

Everything was fabulous and I want to thank y'all again so much for all the hard work that was put into making the first Reunion such a big success!

The Raffle ~ I LOVED the idea of us writing our names on the tickets, so we didn't have to fish through a million raffle tickets to verify who won. That made the winning process much smoother. Tommi & Sherry did an awesome job!! Believe me, I know how tough organizing something like that can be... so THANK YOU BOTH ~ YOU ROCK!

We had sooooo many raffle donations this year (over 70 I believe) and that is unfuckin' believable ~ this community rocks! My only problem is that the raffle does take up a nice time chunk of the prom. Maybe we can set up some kind of system where the tickets can be drawn (at a designated time) and then a list drawn up with the names of prizes & winners, that we can all just check out after a certain time. That way more time can be spent dancing the night away!

The Peabody was an awesome hotel, with unbelievable service! It was close proximity to many restaurants & bars, and the trolly service was verrrrry affordable! The food in the hotel was good, moderately priced, and pretty quick... so no complaints at all.

You know I will be there next year... I wouldn't miss it for the world!

THANK YOU for everything!!!

Everything really was wonderful. I can't think of anything that could have been better that you haven't already addressed above (lighting, air, bigger chat room).

Two suggestions for something diff for next year.
I know it's been kicked around jokingly...but I would like to honestly find out the interest level in doing a Costume Ball (Dance/Prom/Whatever) next year. Costuming totally optional of course.

Maybe organizing a side trip one half-day to Hot Springs. They not only have the Springs, but a newly opened Contemporary Art Gallery.

Seriously the hotel was fantastic in all ways. The workout room also had free water and fruit, so I got my fruit fix there. But made sure to bring it back and share.

Thank y'all!!!!!!

I've heard this from more than one person and will say that it is definitely a process that we want to improve. I think that the idea of pre-drawing is fabulous and am pretty sure we can make that happen smoothly! :)

A few discussion points:

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service?
$99 a night for a beautiful LARGE room was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond what most hotels do, always with a smile.

What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff?
I love the fact that you provided vegetarian delights for those of us who do not partake in meat. Not only that, it was HOT in Arkansas, and the staff made sure the A/C was blasting. Exceptional ***

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas?
The Karaoke place was GREAT and they moved the music indoors.

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite?
Loved Loved Loved the Cabaret - The Raffle turned out better than I imagined, the photos did not do justice. Hospitality Suite.. Warm and welcoming to all. The community chat was conducted in a most organized manner.. What I loved most, the honest flow of questions and responses. Not once during the chat, was there a feel of angst or disregard for one another, and this just does happen when you have 70 different personalities in one room... And it was COZY!

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection?
Bagels were as good as I get in NYC... Fruit, yes for me I would have loved it. Coffee was nice and strong (yummy wolfy).

Was your experience an overall positive experience?
Exceeded my expectations.

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year?
Prom... While it was beautiful and I loved getting dressed up and seeing everyone so fabulous. Something interactive or perhaps theme oriented.

Thank you each and everyone of you, for making this possible and so damn easy to be part of. There was not a moment in time, when I did not feel part of the community and a great sense of belonging.

We actually kicked this around for a bit, not knowing how many people would attend. I imagine we could get a bus to take folks down for the day or maybe Niceguy would be willing to drive a van down for the day and guide people around.

I'll definitely add this to our idea board!

I think you'll be super pleased with the "Prom" part of next year's program ;)

We did see the need to step it up a bit for that portion and what we have in store will still allow people to get dressed up but also have a TON of fun while dancing and doing some "interactive"-type things ;)
(Just have to nail down a few production things before we talk too much about it)

It was my first one and I have no complaints! It was great, the location was great and the hotel staff was really nice. Most places were in walking distance which was also nice.

If we do do a costume-themed dance, I'd suggest we do it for the Cabaret and not the Prom.

I thought the pricing was fair for the service we were given. With the exception of the hotel losing my luggage for a couple of hours (a case of the left hand not knowing what the right was doing, I suspect), I had exemplary service. The valet department saw me several times to get stuff in and out of our vehicle and most of the time, they brought the van to me. Excellent service from them. Housekeeping was also excellent and the front desk staff was also quite lovely.

I love the idea that was mentioned in the community chat of moving the dinners to lunches before the Cabaret and Prom. I thnk that would help greatly with time management.

I liked the karaoke venue but loved Bosco's and Wasabi (the sushi place a block from the hotel). Any place with fantastic food has my vote.

I'd personally prefer if the Grill would change their toilets. They're black and, with the subdued lighting in the bathroom, they were kind of creepy, but that's just a me thing.

It's my personal goal to get there a day early and stay a day later next Reunion, so that I can do the touristy stuff and not feel as if I missed something. My biggest complaint would be that I felt I didn't have enough time to see everyone and everything.

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service?

I really enjoyed the hotel. The staff was personable and professional. The room prices were very good at $99 a night. For that level of hotel, I was happy with such a low price.

Service was impeccable. We did have two extra pillows show up in our room that neither of us ordered. I think there may have been a bit of confusion at the front desk.

Our room is also where Gemme's luggage was to land and didn't. :) Since some of my stuff was there as well, I was glad to see it come home.

What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff?

Food was good. Can we get the recipe for that artichoke dip? I swear I wanted to just roll around in it like a hog. Good! Everything was fresh.

Meeting space was a bit tight, but we did seem to get most of us in there. If we get a bigger space, I'd like to remind people to SPEAK UP. Even in that small room, I had some difficulty understanding what everyone said.

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas?

Restaurants were good. We had one unpleasant waiter at Bosco's but he wasn't one of the main ones. And that's his issue not anyone else's. :) I think he just didn't like having to work a large group.

Pricing was okay and the menu choices were excellent.

Karaoke was a blast. I thought they did a great job of taking orders in one area and then tracking our mobile butts down when we invaded the other part.

One thing I particularly liked was being out with the locals who weren't the queer community. Nice to go out and have fun WHERE EVER THE HECK we want to go, you know?

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite?

The raffle was good. There was some confusion on which bags went with what but that's just because teh Arwen doesn't pay attention. LOL

Cabaret...can we please have a pre-set, announced time for the show so that all performers will be there on time? It's grand to make an entrance, but kinda holds the rest of us to someone else's watch. I'm really glad G is in charge of this. I think because we were kind of fragmented on who was running the backstage that it got a bit crazy.

Of course, be ordered to the backstage by Bubblin' was kind of hot.

My vote for costumes would be at the Cabaret over the Prom. I just like seeing the suits/tuxes/western shirts and dresses far too much.

Community Chat rocked in terms of sharing and air clearing. I think we do need a printed agenda next time so we know we have 2-5 focus points and then some open sharing time at the end. :)

Hospitality suite was amazing. I loved the one morning I went because it was just good to see others early in the morning before all the hyper energy hit. :) I like pre-caffienated people--even June.

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection?

As long as you put a "contributions" jar up so we can donate a bit to the effort. I love your community-spirited heart, Angie. I just want to make sure the rest of us have a chance to show our own community-spirited hearts by giving back to that effort.

Fruit would be nice as long as it didn't go bad in your suite. Ewww! :)

Was your experience an overall positive experience?

I've been to two other events of this nature. At each one I had a fabulous time hanging out with old friends and making new ones. This one was the best because I actually got to talk to just about everyone there. I could have named all of them too. I loved the impromptu lobby bar gatherings. That was a happening spot and the staff there handled all in perfect stride.

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year?

Registration: I'd like to see folks bring their tickets so we can use that to check them off the list. I know some did (gold stars). I feel like registration went well. I know there was a bit of wait at the Meet-n-Greet. Thanks to everyone for being patient with Blaze and I as we dealt with the swarm. :)

We may need to angle the table more or put it outside so folks know to check in first. Had to run one or two people down to get them back to the table.

Thanks to everyone for wearing their name badges. I was one of the ones who did NOT. I just forgot about it. I know people hate the wrists bands, but at least I didn't have to try to remember where I threw it the night before.

Plus the wrist bands don't come off easily so as we grow to a larger gathering size, we may have to bite that bullet.

It's either that or ear tags...

also fabulous.

Was your experience an overall positive experience? I came away with more than I could have ever imagined!

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year? I would pay to ensure that Bubblin comes back again next year...she really rocked it as the MC.

The raffle is the only thing that really slowed things down a bit. I think the idea (I can't remember who"s) about having some someone's do that on the side would be a great thing. I would be willing to help with that as long as Juney and Kat don't bring another T-shirt cause you know I will cheat ;)

Medusa wanted to buy a gross of bananas :seeingstars: Next year, we will have a *reasonable* amount of fruit.

Next year, we're going to have silicone wrist bands, they are inexpensive and will act as a keepsake. And no, they won't be pink.

I agree, if we do a costume thing, it should be at the cabaret, not the prom, and I think it would be a lot of fun as long as it was totally optional. We don't want folks stressing about it.

As far as excursions go, I think that sounds like fun for some folks. I am not sure where to cram it in though!

Thursday Night - Meet N Greet
Friday - Butch/Trans Bonding & Femme Swap, then Cabaret
Saturday - Recover from hangover, Couples & Singles Lunch, Community Meeting, Prom
Sunday - Recover from on-going hangover, brunch and goodbyes for a lot of folks

Maybe Sunday afternoon?

This is true because our schedule is incredibly tight -

Hot Springs is about 50 miles from the hotel each way so an excursion there would take most of a day. I can see people leaving at 7:30am and retuning by 4:00 pm and you could definitely stay busy for that long in Hot Springs but it would be up to folks to miss either a day of bonding events or the bonding lunches and community chat (unless we move the chat to a later time).

We'll kick it around.

Of course, there's always playing pool or a little preliminary Karaoke!

That's the plan so far - We are still in the RFP (Request for Pricing) stage and wont have a signed contract for a few weeks now while we negotiate.

Once we have a signed contract, we'll get a thread going! :)

I think those that want to tour Hot Springs should come in a day early
Get a head count and see if there's enough to rent a tour bus
Get an early start out on Thursday morning
Be back in plenty of time to do Meet N Greet
In my head, it sounds doable
So what do ya'll think?

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service? The hotel was fabulous and the price was great. The hotel locale itself was great, with such neat things within walking distance as well.

What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff? Everything was very good and the hotel staff was awesome!

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas? Once again, everything was really good.

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite? Everything really rocked. The only downside was the amount of time for the Raffle. It was kind of lengthy, although it was kinda fun itself.

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection? Since I'm not a fan of either coffee or bagels, I'd say yes please include some fruit next time thanks...lol

Was your experience an overall positive experience? It was an awesome and amazing experience and I am sooooo looking forward to next year. :D

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year?
I agree with some of the others that a themed prom and/or a masquerade cabaret night would be very fun ideas.

A few discussion points:

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service? Price was quite fair.

What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff?
Loved the room for the M&G, the other 2 were 'typical ballroom' spaces. I liked the food at the Ball (was there food at the Cabaret?)...especial those wonderful spinachy~triangle dealios and the DUCK COOKIES! :eyebat:

The Staff ~ OMG. Where are the words! I didn't come into contact with one single staff member who didn't A. speak to me with a smile, B. look me in the eye, C. inquire as to my stay and D. ask me if I needed something or, if I needed anything other than their service just provided. IT WAS STELLAR!

And then of course......Mary. :D

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas?
Singles used Bosco's. Their staff was lovely, answered my emails on the same day I had a question. They addressed our needs pretty well. There were a lot of us. The room held 40 and we were a bit sardined in, but they prepared a 'spill-over' table if we needed it. (No one wanted to leave. We all, evidently, LIKE sardines! )

Karaoke place was neat....It was nice to look out and see we'd taken over! That made my heart happy! And then of course, when Wolfy 'let go'.....my evening was complete! (I'm talkin' about Karaoke, of course. :| )

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite?
Don't know about the other singers ~ & I may be getting old (Reconsider saying something right here!) ~ but it might be nice to have a monitor on stage for the singers as it was sometimes difficult to hear the track up on stage. (Again...that might just be me.)

Community Chat....well how neat was THAT?!?! I loved the Living Room feel of that....everyone all close and coffeed up. I realize that we may have too many next year to do that, but maybe a room like the M&G......but with sofas and stuffed chairs and homey and stuff? And I'd like to direct the Planet version of Kumbaya, please, while hugging Juney. :eyebat:

LOVED the Hospitality Suite......I wouldn't mind having another one ~ like right across the hall....and just open up those suckers! Candace Louise and I have discussed this very thing.

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection?
I'm not sure I had a bagel (only because I wasn't coherent enough to get up off my lazy ass & get one!), but the coffee was very good! (I don't remember getting that either, but who ever made MINE made it perfectly with just the right amount of yummy creamer!)

Fruit could be fun....peel me a grape. :eyebat:

Was your experience an overall positive experience?
Overall? If I had to rate it between 1 - 10 (10 being the best), I'd have to give it a 10. It was THE best gathering I've ever attended (it was only my 4th) and my Dallas one was my previous best. No more.

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year?
Maybe we'll get tired of LR after a few years.....but I'd love to visit Portland, too. And I'd love to have Y'all down in Austin (in the fall, June, in the fall!)...and maybe in the NE (like Mass or NH or Vermont or up-state NY?)....Maybe 2-3 in one place?

This thread is meant as a way for myself and Jack, Juney, Tommi, Arwen, Bubblin', Logan, and the many other people who helped guide the process to get a well-rounded view of what we did right and what we need to work on.

As others have said, The Raffle went too long on Saturday....we were payin' our DJ good money to sit there. I know we had TONS o' items (a good thing!)...and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea of having a separate room for those things.

TOO, maybe Little Man could ALso be in that room....I guess I missed the announcement that he was taking portraits, but someone dragged me in there or I wouldn't have known. If he does this again next go 'round, maybe he could also be in the Raffle Room so more folks would participate. Just a thought.

Medusa, Jack, Linus & June.........I know this has been said a bunch....but there are no words to thank You enough for giving us this site, our first Reunion and a place to call home....I applaud Your commitment to us, to each other and am so grateful that I am here to participate!

Thank You!

Can I make a request please, if (and we are working on it) we get to the next reunion, can there please be seating for those who are differently abled, ie; may need arm rests on chairs, straight backed chairs, chairs that shorter folks can reach the ground with their feet. Haven't been there but every where we go these are issues for us.
Thanks for the consideration.

ETA: Oh and we like fruit too.

The chairs for the round tables at events are armless, I will put on my list to see if they have any with arms. When we did the community meeting, there were a variety of chairs available as we all crammed in and I asked folks who could to sit on the floor. I will PM you.

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service? The Price was awesome for the service we received.

What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff? Meeting space I will assume this is where we had the community meeting. It was fine by me. Cheaper too!! I didn’t eat anything in the room, but it all looked good. However I did have one can of Mt Dew, Thank you!!!

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas? Honestly all were great. Maybe next year would could talk one of the “gay bars” that we went to (with in walking distance from the hotel) to let us have some space for Karaoke?

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite?
I have a few thoughts on the Raffle. I think we should look at NOT having the raffle stuff the “last night” Out last night should be about FUN, Dancing, and Talking. The raffle goes on far to long. I did hear from several people that they wish the raffle wasn’t so long or not the last night. I realize that we need to sell tickets and such for a few days prior to the drawings. Maybe we could put our heads together on this one?

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection?
I would have had the fruit myself… I didn’t have any bagels.

Was your experience an overall positive experience? OMG YES YES YES

Any other thoughts you would like to add for us to keep in mind for next year?
I would like to see the Cabaret start at 8pm this way by 9-9:30 depending on how many participate. Everyone will have time to shake a leg. The rest of the evening. I am guessing that the number of ppl attending the next Reunion will double (hope it exceeds that) so I think there will be a few more ppl wanting to perform.

I had a awsome time :) Loved the hotel , the staff , location etc :)

The only thing , like Pinkie said was the raffle during the prom , It seemed to take away from it because there where so many donations and I am sure there will be more next year :) ...Loved the names on the tickets :) But all in all really for the first time out , from what I saw , it went pretty smooth :) I liked the way that we where able to approch the person we wanted to buy the tickets from , awesome idea :) And I LOVED the DJ for the cabaret , she was involved and awesome choice of music :)

I won't repeat what everyone has said, but will just say ::ditto:: to the raffle, hotel staff, timing of costumes...

When you live in NYC and you come to a place like Little Rock, you are grateful for how reasonably priced everything is, so I was very happy with the prices, including the airfare, which was surprising because we booked our flight so late.

I love the Hot Springs idea because I'd never otherwise get the chance to go and I'm really curious to visit. But I agree that it would take a huge chunk of the day, so maybe it's a pre-Reunion outing?

We went on a small outing to Lilly's Dim Sum, a lesbian owned and staffed Chinese restaurant, about a 15 minute ride from the hotel. It was wonderful and it felt great to support the place. We talked about getting a van and organizing a group trip there (lunch or dinner) next year.

I loved the hospitality suite at breakfast time. It was cozy and a very different atmosphere from the late night partying stuff. It was nice to have that time. I liked the bagels and coffee as well, and I'm a tough critic on both!

The use of the suite for the morning and for the Community Meeting was great and I have mixed feelings about getting a hotel meeting room next year because you lose the intimate community feeling. But if we grow a lot (which for other reasons I hope we do), then we can't act as if we're still a group of 70 or so.

I never feel like I can say thank you enough to the organizers. I'll just have to keep thanking you til then next Reunion.

Thank You!
~Janey

Great suggestions, Janey!

Im definitely hearing that the raffle time was an issue and promise that we will take steps to make that a smoother process for all (as long as I keep winning! LOL)

Just my two scents!!! Carry on....

Great thoughts!

Fwiw, the Cabaret event did start at 8pm but we werent able to start the show until after 9pm. I have a feeling this will be a much smoother process next year because Just_G has agreed to manage the stage ;)

We have already secured DJ DT for next year and will have her wife, Kellie, help out with Prom photos and such since she is a professional photographer!

I will agree too that DJ DT was probably THE BEST DJ that I have ever enjoyed and thought that she did an amazing show. We had numerous compliments on her service!

Thanks for this, BB!

I agree that we should find a way to get some folks over to Lily's Dim Sum. They DO cater so even if we cant get a large group over there, we might be able to talk them into catering something for us :)

Im also in agreement about the nice chatty/cozy feeling of the community chat space. We have our eye on a bigger suite for next year and will check out the common space to see if it can accommodate more folks without feeling cramped.

Hey Medusa,

Can we work on getting extra suite's on a "discounted" price for peeps that want to room up together.. I'm thinkin Pinkie and D-Ray need a bigger room for body shots... I'd love to help them out on that department by having a larger room! ... just some thoughts for you..

Or, for those of us that are tall ... sitting on low chairs, or worse, the floor, is not fun to stand up from. Oh, I dangled one there ... Dang.'Sides, it ruins the cuffs and creased.

This we will definitely negotiate for! I know that the hotel has a limited number of suites so we may only be able to block 3 or 4 but I will definitely see what they can do for us so there can be more than a few party centrals! ;)

Ok, Ok, let me tell you something about Hot Springs, as Doll and I went there Sunday afternoon until Tuesday Morning. This is only what I noticed. Many stores and buildings are closed, must be the economy. Out of all the Bath houses, only 2 are actaully open, but they open from 7am to 11:45 am, this is the buckstaff, not sure about the other one but they weren't open. All the stores close by 5pm, so you gotta get a early start. They do have awesome restraunts, and they have a "gaming room" Shhh casino/race track to which I love! Hot springs is awesome, but maybe because we hit the last day of tourist season, we walked around window shopping. This is just a little sharing of what we experienced in Hot Springs. We did do the national parks, but umm there costly too...

Ditto. I know Billy and I have each talked about getting a suite next year. We thought if the group got at least 3, maybe we could sandwich the After-Body-Shot-Parties in the middle one. LOL How we didn't get security called on us is a miracle. Or just a testament to how much the hotel lurrrves us.

It occured to me that I have been hearing bits and pieces of (99.9% positive!) feedback about the Reunion in Little Rock but that it might be nice to have a dumping ground for all of the feedback.

A few discussion points:

What was your experience with the hotel? Did you think the price was fair Service?

I thought the price was extremely fair and the service was impeccable.
What did you think of the meeting space? Food at the meeting space? Staff?

Your thoughts on the restaurants that were used for dinners and karaoke? Pricing? Other ideas?
Didn't make to to karaoke, but I did attend a dinner at the flying fish, the food was yummy.

Thoughts on the Cabaret? Raffle? Community Chat? Hospitality suite?
The cabaret was wonderful and I thought it was way better to have it at the hotel than a club, more room and no smoking. Best of all no driving to return to the hotel. It was such a blessing having a place to get coffee and chat in the morning and Wolfy made sure everyone had their choice of coffee ty wolfy. Community chat was informal and cozy with the growing numbers you all might need a bigger suite, it was amazing to be part of it all.

If you did enter the Hospitality suite (and I think all of you did!), did you like the selection of bagels? Would you have eaten fruit too if Juney would have let me buy it? Coffee selection?
It was all wonderful, something for everyone, raises hand yep I would have eaten the fruit.

XO,
angie

I cannot tell you all Jack, Medusa, June, Linus and Wolfy, thank you enough or....
How very blessed I was to be there at the reunion. From the time of registration till the time I went home, I was made to feel comfortable by every person who attended it was like being at a Family Reunion. Everyone one made sure I met others. Shyness quickly flew out the door with numerous hugz, it was like seeing long lost family.
G nailed it right on with "I got a feeling", the people of BFP are awesome and I'm glad to have met new family members and lifelong friends.
Looking forward to next year:hangloose:

I have a few thoughts after reading this thread....and will come back for more when my brain is not on other things....

1. yes, the raffle must take less time....I have more femmes, butches, and FTMs to dance with! (I got a full card peeps! :winky:)

2. I honestly don't like that we try to cram so many bonding things in to such a short time. I like being around everyone....butches, femmes, FTMs, couples, singles, etc. It seems like we have so many things we are trying to make time for and run around to, that we can't just relax and enjoy EVERYONE. It's like we are all always going different directions. Then you have couples that are involved in LDRs and don't want to separate to go to different functions. It all gets so complicated....maybe it is just me. I remember when talks started about even doing a reunion, it was going to be board games and spending time together that way. (I could just be cranky and tired...yes, it happens from time to time)

3. I promise to do my best to make the caberet run smoothly and start on time. I will be taking "Bossy 101", "Demanding 103", "I am running the show 104",(those three from certain femmes here at BFP :winky: You know who you are!) and "How to be gay and on time 105" :winky: Not sure who will be teaching that last one...I am not sure if any of us were on time to anything...oh wait, maybe because it was ME that was late!

4. The hotel was fantastic...everyone was so nice and accomodating. I wouldn't mind if we had it in Little Rock every year!

5. I am REALLY looking forward to next year.

6. Secrets don't make friends.

I will be back with more thoughts!

Even if there were no big fantastic secret, I don't want to miss the next ReUnion! Have heard very good things from peeps that attended. like LR is a great place and the hotel was great. Sure, I would love to have a less expensive flight, but deals can be had and no matter where it is, it will farther for some. Seemed like the rates for rooms were good and the price of admission was fair. With the good feedback and just really wanting to see Planeteers in person, I am really going to try to make it work out!

Wouldn't it be great, if next year, the economy was further along in recovery and folks that have just had it rough the last 2 years were back in jobs, caught up with bills and could just spend some dough on being with their people? I vote for that!!!

What is TIM Tam? You cannot have or discuss chocolate without me! Well, for bribery purpose, perhaps.

I'm not sure that 'Dussa doesn't need more post reunion rest. Talking 'bout "peeing and shaking." Maybe somebody slipped her some T while she wasn't lookin? Bwahahahaha  Sorry, it is a medical condition known as coffeepenia.

Secret? Something wonderful? Um, live music? Did you book the God-dess (yes, I did see them perform, and they were excellent in Oaktown, Sunday). A new Harley dealership opened in LR, and discounts for rentals during our stay (and, the butches in particular, will be glad to know that a new trauma unit just opened ... sarcastic stereotype intended)? There will be a butch swap? Of clothing. Of clothing. Geez. Um, there will be a tea dance for us geezers? Come on, we gotta keep me and Corkey awake til 8! Um, there will be salsa dancing? A grand prize for the lucky ticket holder of a year's supply of Depends?

I CAN'T STAND IT! What's the surprise?

It could be auctioned off like Diva's cookies!
The winning bidder could then taunt everyone about knowing and not telling the secret.

I had only read about Tim Tams. When I was i the UK a few years ago I found some in a store and bought a couple packages. OMG - SOOOOO GOOOOD! Seriously - best (non-Diva) cookie ever.

I want to follow-up on a prior suggestion, but, I wasn't at our B-FP ReUnion I. So, it feels odd for me to do so because, I may be making it from past experiences with the prior Bash events I attended. I just felt that g had a good point about not having so many specific to relationship status events (i.e., a singles and couples, trans, etc. dinner or bonding hour) and gearing the very limited time we have to see one another to everyone getting together just as our one big community.

There are many people, coupled and single, for instance that I just want to see at these events just as a B-F person. If I am going to meet someone special, I don't need a singles event to do so (although, things like speed dating are OK, which to me is not the same as a singles dinner.

I have enjoyed butch bonding hours, but, I like being with the whole spectrum of butch, Trans, intergendered, FtM's, MtF's, etc. I want to know the entire community as it is.

To be honest, I feel that having too many identity or relational specific events just feels divisive to me. But, I am only one person.

Also, some of the most valuable time I have spent at former Bashes has just been like G said, hanging out with folks- such as at the pool during the day or doing some sight-seeing with a group. Heck, having morning coffee with a few people is great.

I know I am just not someone that likes to have a tight schedule at social events like this. I do see a Meet & Greet (or another title) at the start of the ReUnion for newbie’s as important. It is hard to attend things like this for the first time and especially if you are attending solo.

Then again, what I will do is just not sign-up or attend some of these things. Actually, since I really liked volunteering to do stuff at a Bash in the past (which helped me personally with shyness and talking with folks- yes, I am shy), I know if it works out that I can attend, I will do this for the Planet ReUnion. I like doing this kind of stuff and usually, even with all the organization that goes on for months before an event like this, there are always last minute things that the organizers need someone to do on site.

Something else that would be great is a run-down on the costs in little rock for those that attended this year in terms of drinks, shows, or if you went to other places for a dinner date or something. I have no idea what the going rates are for things like this are there. I know at the Oakland Bash, many people from outside of CA and the Bay Area were astonished at prices (and I didn't blame them!).

I gotta figure in all my beverage and eating costs, or some of the fees for sites that people might want to check out in LR. It's easy to do the hotel; cost of the event and plane fare/cab/airporter service kind of stuff, but, these other things are not. I plan on making this my vacation, maybe come or stay a couple of days more than the ReUnion and take a look at the area and relax! I want to taste the food, take in some sites, check out the burbs, etc. Also, I am really considering re-location as a retired person now and want to be in a less busy and expensive kind of area. OMG! I am getting old!

Oh.. And I know there will be other feelings about all of this and reasons, I am just stating my preferences and no matter what, I am sure it will be a great time! Will go with the flow!

I just know that if I don't get organized early for this and pay for things in stages and figure in fun time spending, I won't get there!

ALH,

There were couples at the singles dinner and other singles at the couples dinner. So, even though there were specific type events, those who wanted to attend with certain folks (versus their "status") did so. :)

This reunion was much more open and laid back, I think, to those I attended in the past. I felt more of a connection with people and deepened existing bonds. That had nothing to do with what events I attended, because we were fortunate enough to have a smaller crowd and all of us at the very least brushed up against everyone once or twice.

Granted, I understand that not everyone wants to go running from one event to the next, with no time to breathe, I think that some folks may actually be more comfortable in the presence of like folks (even within our community). That's why these functions were formed to begin with.

The problem lies in that there are SO MANY perfectly wonderful things to do and umpteen lovely people to do them with, that it's going to take a decisive hand to sort it all out. And, sometimes, breaking up the groups one way or another, helps with planning and the flow of the events.

As for costs, Medusa, Jack, June and Linus are working on getting even BETTER deals for next year so if I gave you a cost list for myself, it wouldn't be true for next year. Besides, I had help this year with my rooming (which was appreciated beyond measure!) so my costs wouldn't be comparable to the average single person's costs. So, I can't help you there other than to say I spent anywhere from $5-$20 for meals, except for those in which I was treated and the brunch that came with the Reunion packet (thanks Medusa and Jack!). The room costs were, as published, $99/night plus all applicable taxes and surcharges, for a total of around $115/night. Again, that should change for next year.

There's a gift shop in the hotel in case you forget something. As expected, the prices there are higher than if you went the couple of blocks to the drug store, not to mention the hours on the door LIE. *squints eyes*

So, the costs are not going to be the same next year as it was this year.

*shrug*

I know that Medusa and Jack and all the wonderful folks behind the scenes are working hard to make sure the next Reunion is just as, if not more, fantastical as this one was. :)

:chocolate:I want to follow-up on a prior suggestion, but, I wasn't at our B-FP ReUnion I.

Just to add my 2 cents.....

While it might have been the same type of gathering as something You have attended once before, ReUnion had a totally different vibe than any other gathering I'd ever attended.

The Singles' Dinner was not designed as a place to "hook up". It was just a place to gather as singles and have a meal together. As Gemmie said, there were also couples there because there were some friendships there between couples and singles.

I think it's good to have smaller gatherings just for conversation's (and bonding's) sake. It's tricky to have conversation at the Cabaret or the Ball if one wants to do that. Not impossible. Just trickier. I never felt rushed by the schedule that was presented to us. I believe the rushed feeling may have come from all those extra things outside the published schedule. (I said "may"...<smile> ) It was very easy to get around in LR...the trolley makes everything so much more accessible, too.

Additionally, one of the most brilliant ideas Jack, Medusa, June & Linus have had is to announce NEXT YEAR'S REUNION so early!!!!!!!!!! It makes it easy for those of us who may be on a fixed/limited income to save little by little over the course of 13 months. It's over a year away! That 'gift' of time is priceless!

There's a free shuttle from the airport to & from the hotel, btw. And they also will shuttle You to restaurants if You ask in plenty of time. The hotel staff is REMARKABLE!

It's a new day, to be sure.................thank God.

Here's a very limited idea on costs:

Based on 2010 Reunion:

Registration: Sliding scale $45 -90. We started the early registration rate at $45 I believe. Late registration sliding scale was $65 - $90.

Hotel - $99 a night plus tax. Free Internet.

Parking - Valet at the Peabody - $20 a day. Park one block away at the Doubletree for $7 a day (or was it $8?)

Transportation - Free shuttle to and from hotel.

Trolley - You could buy a 3-day pass for $5. ALL events were within 6 blocks or less of hotel with the majority being walking distance.

Food - Free coffee and bagels every morning. Breakfast buffet was available through hotel for about $18(?). The Hop diner (1 block from hotel) served breakfast and lunch for under $10. Also several very inexpensive restaurants.
For instance, Rumba Revolution served a Nacho platter for $8 (huge!) and The Hop had a hamburger and fries combo for $6. There were also several high end restaurants available ranging in price up to $70 per person.
The Planet had sodas, water, and juice available in the hospitality room and there were free hot hors d'eurves (or however you spell it) at every event except Cabaret. The Planet also provided a free farewell breakfast buffet that I found to be quite decent.

Drinks - The hotel offered a $2 canned beer special!!! Also, mixed drinks were anywhere from $5 - $9 depending on brand of liquor. House wine was $4 a glass. Shots of Patron were $8.

Raffle tickets- Prices were reduced to .50 each or $10 for a length of Juney's height.

Airfare - Depending on how far away you lived and how far out you bought your tickets, some folks drove, some flew. Some folks paid $500 for round-trip airfare. Some got it for $200.
I will say that with the next Reunion being in October, airfare should be significantly less. When Jackhammer and I were dating long distance, Southwest would routinely run flights from Southern California to Little Rock for $218 round trip. We'll cross our fingers that they do that again :)

We are going to do our best to include 3 full meals in the price of next years registration. That might mean that registration is $80 -$100 a person but we are planning to let people pay it out in installments for those who need to. No matter what, we will do our best to make it affordable and accessible for folks. What matters is that everyone has access :)

I spent less at this event, and in Little Rock, than any I did at any similar event. It was less expensive all the way around for me. We ate at THE Flying Fish, and actually ended up there again for the Couples Dinner too. The food was great, plentiful, and very reasonable. NYCfemmebbw found agreat restaurant, and BB sherrie and I took a cab to this lesbian owned restaurant named Lilly's and had a great vegetarian lunch.

The date change will make it even better as air fares will be cheaper.

Also, you can sign up and get alerts from and to specific cities at this website.

Other's are Booking Buddy, TravelZoo, etc. Watch for great airfare.

A very important meeting was rescheduled for Friday (this Friday, September 17th) so it will be at *least* Friday before we can announce anything. I might take the weekend to work up the information in a presentable format before we announce but it will all be contingent on what happens on Friday ;)

ALH, I get what you are saying about the not running like a mad human. It is tiring and you feel like you've been on the go non-stop.

I like the smaller, more intimate gatherings. I would stomp, scream and pout if we lost the Femme Swap. I think it is almost urgently important to have the 'like" gatherings such as Femme Swap and Butch/FTM bonding.

Why?

Because not everyone lives in a Butch-Femme positive world. Not everyone has the opportunity to let their inner Femme flag fly. They are trapped in communities (if they are even blessed to be in a queer community) that may see butch and femme as anti-queer or "playing at a heteronormative lifestyle".

To be able to go hang out with butches who get you or femmes who do is a gift those who havne't been to a community event don't understand. You and I have been. And, I think, that we both live in communities who either get the Butch-Femme dynamic or we have our own little pockets of people who do.

But for those that don't, this is an opportunity for them to see what it's like to go into a party and not be stared at for any other reason than someone finds them bow-chicka-bow-bow attractive. It's a heady thing as a femme to put on THE dress and walk into the Prom. Beyond empowering for a butch to suit up including a tie and have a femme give you the once, twice, three time look over.

So I am an advocate for having the bonding time.

I like that our organizers are looking at doing those events earlier in the day. :) Beating it back from the Singles Dinner to get ready for the Cabaret was a bit of a rush (but it has always been like that at other events--this one is just actually listening to us.)

As to the money thing, I came home with money. I took about as much as I generally spend at other events and came home with cash in hand. Not a lot, but enough not to worry about the next week's groceries.

ALH, I have to agree with Arwen. Since I moved from a big city to a small town in another state, I am isolated when it comes to like minded people. So, the events that are scheduled is just what someone like me looks forward to.

You have no idea how I needed the LR Reunion. It revitalized me and made me go back to my small town happy. My closest friends for any bonding time I may crave are 5 hours away. So, it can only be a weekend trip for me and it doesn't happen often enough. If you look at the big picture, we need each other more than some want to admit as a community. We see each other at face value when the general population can't or won't. Put a group of us together in a room at any event and who's going to tell us we can't be who we know we are.

I personally wouldn't want any less at any Reunion we have. It doesn't matter if I walk around on little sleep because I'm happily doing things with friends. It's only one weekend a year and I think I can handle a weekend with little sleep. Besides, there's always time for a short power nap for those that need it.

As for the financial end for me, I have to watch my pennies for sure, but if you have a year to save, anything you put away can help make part of the trip. I focus on what costs the most and try to save for it. I know that if I really needed the help and those that know me know I have, usually understand and lend a hand one way or another. See, this is the great thing about community. One way or the other we come together and make it happen for anyone who wants to be there. I am a true testament of that and am thankful to have an angel for a friend who understands me.

As for other expenses, I think you can actually do outside events in LR on a shoestring budget. Meals are cheap, trolley is cheap. Friends are ( I bet ya'll thought I'd say cheap) amazingly understanding. Besides walking around in Oct will be great weather for exploring, so it doesn't get any cheaper than that.

Whatever it is you chose do with your time in LR, just enjoy yourself without having to worry about time. We'll all get where we need to be when we need to be there.

Perhaps some of you misunderstood what I was saying. I didn't say eliminate bonding events. I am just saying there are so MANY in a short time span. It is hard to get from one thing to another for ME. Here is an example of what I am talking about:

I know that had I been running late to the singles dinner, that puts Diva in a bind because she made a reservation for 40 people....and because there are so many people, service takes longer, so I don't get out of there in time to get ready for the Caberet....which puts other people in a bind, and causes me to stress out when I am really trying to get everywhere on time and then I start getting text messages...I am rushing around like a mad man trying to get out the door trying to tie my shoes while running down the hall. I don't like feeling all stressed out when the whole thing is supposed to be so much fun. (not that in the end it isn't a blast....just gets kind of stressful for ME in a time crunch like that)

I want to schedule the Caberet show a smidge different next year and I plan on talking to the people behind the scenes about it...I have ideas that might pan out better for everyone involved (spectators and performers). :goodluck:

If meals are included in the package for next year, I think that would be fan-freakin-tastic! I feel like I would be able to sit with someone different for every meal and get to know some people I haven't had the pleasure of really getting to know. Ya know?!

Regarding Tired: Yeah, I think I averaged about 4 hours a night. But everyone is so darned interesting!

G -- I hear you, there are a lot of things planned. That's why we're switching the Singles/Couple dinners over to Lunches and trying to negotiate dinners at the Hotel prior to the Cabaret and Prom. Then folks can get ready and walk downstairs without rushing back to the Hotel after dinner/drinks and trying to pull themselves together.

It's not the place we gather, it's the time with people. We were really lucky to also have such a wonderful, welcoming and beautiful environment to do it in this year.

We're working on two dinners and a brunch for everyone. I don't know the origins of the Couples/Singles dinners in our community. I am soooooo glad to hear this. I find most singles things too focused on well... being single- as in if you attend, that means you are looking. Not that I am unaware of my surroundings and peeking, but, for me, this kind of mega gathering of B-F folks is really about the community. I really mean't what I said about feeling deeply sad at not being able to go this year. This is a time for celebration and even healing for us along with recognition and being able to just be us! Just in the relatively short time I have known this community, I honestly have made a couple of very wonderful, true friends. I haven't done that since college and high school, really- not to the same degree and quality.

I think it's good to have smaller gatherings just for conversation's (and bonding's) sake. It's tricky to have conversation at the Cabaret or the Ball if one wants to do that. Not impossible. So, getting together earlier in the day (around 2ish after the bonding events) would leave ample time to still socialize and get ready for the partaaaays! That way we get to enjoy every minute of the Cabaret night without feeling rushed.

If folks are feeling a lil' iffy about the singles/couples thingy we could always just designate a few different restuarant options and let folks decide what option works best for them (menu options, location, theme).

I have always been one of the folks that has crashed the single's dinner for years now... it's kinda like my tradition. Everyone has always welcomed me with open arms, and I never felt like I didn't belong or shouldn't be there. That's what I love about our community... just being together is all that matters!

I have always been one of the folks that has crashed the single's dinner for years now... it's kinda like my tradition. Everyone has always welcomed me with open arms, and I never felt like I didn't belong or shouldn't be there. That's what I love about our community... just being together is all that matters!

Sounds good to me! This luncheon idea might really be a good way to go. Plus, it adds to the total value of getting the complete ticket! Sounds like there will still be an early-bird deduction. A deal!

But, I do know the past couple of years have been very difficult for many of us- reason I couldn't get to the first ReUnion. But, it seemed like many folks shared rooms to help with costs.

LOl.. oh, we butch types can take a hella long time to dress and primp! Hell, I have to get the joints moving, put on knee braces for dancin' and I always have to do ironing touching up! Plus, this old body just ain't what it used to be!

Hey, it is fun to have a space to get dressed-up among this community! And afterall, the femmes (including all designations), really seem to go all out with gowns, etc. WOW!! Some they make themselves! Plus, I have learned to wear suspenders... lots of femmes are so kind in helping getting them all straightened out after having to undo everything just to use the restroom!! Ut, Oh.... just revealed a secret....

You are so right about being together! And I'm seeing that people are really trying to do some improvements that may have come up. This feel great!

What is super right now is that those of us that couldn't be there are being included in this whole discussion. Helps get the blood moving in the direction of Little Rock and feel a part of things. Thanks! I am starting to feel like I did when I was so warmly welcomed a couple of years ago by so many of you. Yup, Diva ... something is taking hold that hasn't been around for awhile!

I dont think I shared this story with yall . During the Meet and Greet , Me and Blaze notice that we had only one attendant besides the bartender, for all of us, Which was Ms. Mary , we thought she was very pleasent , and sweet . I remember commenting to Blaze, I like her she smiles alot , Blaze told me we should tip her , I said, oh yes of course give her a tip . Well... later that night when we were all about to leave she came up to us and tried to give back her tip , told us "I'm just here to pick up glasses and plates i'm really not a waitress. I really shoudn't except this. " Of course we insisted she keep it . . .....
I was so happy when we all lined up during Caberet night to give her tips.
I dont know who's idea that was to do that , but Kudo's to you .
That was great !

WAIT! What about scheduling group naps?

Whaaaa?:|:|

I think group naps is an outstanding idea!! The (I won't say older) more mature I get, the higher value I place on taking naps.

I just read thru this forum, sounds like ya'll had a fantastic time, I think that's awesome!

A thought occurred to me reading thru about the Cabaret (granted I didn't go but sounds like it was a show of sorts) and the rush there after dinner. Has anyone thought about doing the Cabaret kind of like a dinner show? Kind of like some of those dinner theatre places, serve dinner during the show? I don't know what that would entail or even if it's really feasible but it just popped thru my mind as I read.

Hey, D --

That's actually what we're doing in 2011. We are having buffet dinners the night of the Cabaret (Friday) and the "Prom" (Saturday) so folks don't have to rush around to get ready. Friday especially is super busy with the Femme Clothing Swap and Butch/FTM Bonding.

There are 3 meals included in the registration price, the two Dinners and then a Breakfast on Sunday.

:)
