View Full Version : What do you prefer to be called on the site?

Jesse
09-02-2010, 11:10 AM
Just wondering...what do you prefer to be called on here? What would you rather people not call you?

For instance, I prefer to be called either Tranzman or Jesse.

On the other hand, I truly detest being called Tranzy, Tranzy Poo etc. :twitch: Don't do it!

SuperFemme
09-02-2010, 11:15 AM
i don't care what you call me as long as you do it in front of my face and not behind my back.

Greyson
09-02-2010, 11:15 AM
Greyson or Grey. One person refers to me as "Gayson." I find it offensive only because I suspect his use of it is queerphobic. I have no issue with my gender nor sexuality.

Corkey
09-02-2010, 11:22 AM
Corkey or Cork are fine with me, but please leave the cutsey shit off the end. I'm not that kind of guy to be calling cutsie names, it may come back to bite one in the rear end. As my wife uses Corkey when she is ticked at me and needs the first middle and last names to grab my attention she is the only one allowed to do so. It's called boundaries, I haz them.

Arwen
09-02-2010, 11:26 AM
Arwen. Ar.

My given name is Stephanie. That's what my mother and father named me. Some folks still prefer that over Arwen and that's okay.

Just do not shorten it to Stephie. I hate that with a passion. Steph I can handle but Stephie sends me right over the edge.

And, just so you know, I don't think it's cute to tease me about it. At all. One of my triggers and you will get a curt response. If you are lucky, I'll send it back channel.

Of course, darlin' is always good. :)

BullDog
09-02-2010, 11:29 AM
BullDog, Bully or Jules. I also don't mind other terms of endearment when they are good natured. :)

As to my gender I am butch and/or butch woman. I do not use female identified butch- which I find to be very jargony and seems to be used because of male identified being used. So for those who prefer female identified butch that's fine and I will refer to you that way, but it does not refer to me.

Really it depends on who it talking to me. Different people get to call me different things.

Brandy is always a safe bet. As is Potty. Bete works. Bęte noire if you've got a bitchin' French accent.

Never Bran or Brand or Pots, thanks.

I chose a stupid site name, and now get called, "wax." As long as it is not ear ...
Also been called bastard, but that is reserved for special folk.
Just call me Terry, if you remember. Otherwise, whatever. It's only nether space after all.

You can get Linus to change your screen name if you're not happy with the one you picked. :)

Since this thread was created, I think its as good a time as any to mention what it is that we prefer to be called. I've used Braedon for a long while and thats what everyone online knows Me as, but since I will soon be transitioning I have chosen a permanent male name that I will change it to legally when I can afford it:

Matthew Alexander

Those who prefer Braedon can still call Me that, though I'd prefer Matthew or Matt if that can be arranged. Other then that, I'm all good as long as you don't call Me late for dinner :readfineprint:

turasultana
09-02-2010, 11:36 AM
i get turasultana, tura, tura tura.

all fine. Hey sultana is fine too.

Laura is my actual name. that's fine by me too. although if i don't know you and you say it, i'll probably totally forget that I posted it and be confused for a minute. :)

Soft*Silver
09-02-2010, 11:37 AM
S works fine. Strappie was calling me Softie in the chat room which was a new one for me. Like Wax, it doesnt matter here. I prefer not to be called by my given or nick names on the site, unless its in private. A real transgression of boundaries happened on another site when my given and nicknames were used in public posts aimed at harrassing me. Its amazing how web bullies can find cyber ways to maim....

Just about anything works for me, from my screen name to my real name to "hey you". Pet names or nicknames are good too, unless they just sound downright goofy or offensive.

My real name is Crystal, but hardly anybody uses that. Even my parents have called me "Jake" since birth, so it's all good. Or Chris, which I'm not a big fan of although I do allow one ex to call me that since she's never called me anything else. Oh, and my mom does have a habit of embarrassing me in public by calling me "Chrissy-poo". *shudder* :|

Most folks usually just call me "dixie" and that seems to work best for me.

MrSunshine calls me Dixie Crystal Sugar, but since he's my bestest buddy he gets away with it. Heaven forbid anyone else call me that. :twitch:

MsTinkerbelly
09-02-2010, 01:02 PM
Here I'm mostly called Tink, or occasionally Cindy by those that actually know me...at least to my face. LOL

My Spouse and Sister call me Cin (as did my Mom when she was alive), and my Mom used to call me Cindyrella Pumpernickel :|

Rarely am I ever called Cynthia, which is my name

WolfyOne
09-02-2010, 01:11 PM
Here on the Planet, I suppose any name that catches my attention works
I've had people use my entire screen name, Wolfy, W1 (fishinabaggie started that *smiles*)
There are a few that know me and use the initial of my first name
I really won't get pissed online for what you call me,
but you better have a good running start if it's really nasty
should I ever meet you in person :|
And most know, it takes a lot to make me angry

theoddz
09-02-2010, 01:16 PM
I go by, and everyone usually calls me "Theo", which is my legal and preferred name, amongst friends and family. I also get called "Adam" (my first name) with official stuff, including my union/work responsibilities/connections. That's okay, too, because I answer to both. :)

Occasionally, I get called "Mr. <surname>", but when that happens, I usually look around for my father. :|

~Theo~ :bouquet:

miss entycing
09-02-2010, 01:23 PM
it's usually Entycing, if we're interacting for the first time,
but after that, it's Deanna, which most folks call me-
cept Wolfy and a few others who still call me Ms E from way back in the day...
my mama calls me Dee, Damon calls me kitten,
and I roll with any of the above- I'm easy like that!

I go by Jen, Jenny, Apoc, A, Mommie, Aunt Jenny, JP and AuntieJen.

If I know you I am fine with sweetie, darlin' and all that, since I live in the South, but please try to somehow refrain from calling me a Southern Belle, I hate that.

Please do not use my last name on line. I am fine with Miss______ in person, but not on here. On the dash site someone used my entire name, I do prefer at least a drop of annonymity.

I will try to remember to call those of you who do not like your screenname by the name you prefer, but I can be a space cadet, so please do not feel slighted if I forget.

If we don't really know each other--Shug works just fine.

Sue or Suebee, both online and in real time. I'll answer to Susan - after all it's my name. "Suzanne" will be rewarded with my most potent shot of venom eyes. One or two folks get away with Susie or Susie-Q. If you call me by either you'd better be sure you're one of them! ;)

I have one young friend who still calls me Jedi Sue, 'cause I took him to see Star Wars when he was about three feet tall. :darthsmiley: He's gained about three more feet since then. I guess the name's here to stay. :|

~I'm not fond of being called Jane, as that's what my Mom used to call me. And only Mr. Moon calls me Miss Jane. It's a 'thing' with us.

~I loathe my first name and even in jest, I just will not like it.

~For those Southern nicknames.....It depends on who is using them, but as a rule, I don't care for "Dear" or "Sweetie". They remind me of my former mother-in-law, who thought I was neither 'dear' OR 'sweet' & used them with dripping sarcasm............bless her heart.

~I enjoy being called "baby" or "girl" by the right one......"Honey" or "Darlin"? Again....depends on the user.

I go by my name, which is Lynn, really and truly. Some people call me Lynnie, which is OK, but not really how I see myself.

Don't call me "dear" or any other sugary endearment unless you mean it. Used as a sarcastic preface to a criticism or reprimand, it will not win you any points.

I started using my own name when I realized how uncomfortable I was, trying to engage with anyone on a hopefully meaningful level, using an alias. Also, I've learned that privacy is an illusion on the internet. The people I try to avoid always find me anyway, so I figure, fuck it.

Except when Rene says "Yes, Dear!", I am seldom called anything but Andrea.

Well there are the people that can't remember my name and call me anything that begins and ends with an A.

Many years ago, there were two people who called me Andi (not Andy. After all, I am a girl <insert curtsy smiley here>) but that really doesn't seem to fit as a rule.

Guess I just present as Andrea and that is fine with me. I love my name.

To some of us female and women are different.

I said that was my personal preference, and that for myself do not want to be referred that way and I don't like the term. I never heard of female identified or male identified until I came online. I also said I would use it for those who do like it.

I am asking you from this point on that if you want members to respect your identity, that you leave out the value judgments (the whole jargony and assumptions) when referring to how other people identify.
It comes off as judgmental and intolerant and that is not the kind of space we are trying to create here.

I said that is how it feels to me. I also said I would refer to others how they want to be called. The topic of the thread is how do you like to be called on the site. People constantly refer to me as female identified and I am clarifying that I would prefer people didn't refer that way to me. I don't consider it to be an umbrella term that I fall under.

I LOVE IT! Most people call me Rain here, or Rainbow, I think I have been refered to as Logic's girl a couple times. And some people call me Eeyore. I think there are still a few that refer to me as RodeoClown, which was my nickname for a long time, but now there are only a few that use it. A couple of people have the priviledge of calling me pookie, kitten, or muffin.

He calls me Bella, Princess, BabyGirl, and a few other pet names.

I too really don't care what people call me as long as its not mean. My real name is Sarah, but it's rarely used online. I'm kinda fond of Rain and Eeyore and am not really sure why when I was choosing online names I didn't have something with Eeyore in it. But its all good...

A story about who calls me what.

Many years ago, during the 'courtship' phase (if you want to call it that....it was like bees to pollen), my now ex wife (16 years) spontaneously called me by my family nick name. I had never told her that and she had not at this point met my bio-family. How the hell did she do that....laughin....many folks have come close, but no one outside the bio-family ever nailed it before or after her.

I am open to being called anything. Suddenly surprise me with a fun, sweet, or outrageous nickname. I have a fondness for friends having special nicknames for one another or just for me. I'm also cool with you calling me whatever you're in the mood to call me at the moment. I promise I'll respond :). And I also promise that I won't call you anything besides your name in return, unless you specifically request it, of course.

Otherwise I like to be called Jennifer only because I seem to know more "Jenny"s. I'm also fine with nycfembbw or some variation. I was told by one BF-er that she truly always assumed "bbw" stood for BB's wife. I'm cool with that*

Not relevant to this site, but I wanted to put out there that I have a coworker who calls me "Brandy-Girl" and it makes me want to slash her tires.

i always get a little hesitant to answer these things because, in another place (okay...site) at another time, i was hassled a great deal about identity and my identity specifically. but, you can't be a wuss forever. :bolt:

as for names, i am cool with oneye, one or nick, which is the name i've gone by for the last 22 years. i do not like to be called by my given name at all, and i LOATHE being called and have come close to committing homicide when addressed as 'nikki.' DO NOT DO IT!!!

pronounically speaking, i prefer he/him. no, i don't feel that i'm male, and i'm not transitioning and won't likely do so. however, i've never in my life felt like a female really...from the time i can remember. honestly, i've often felt like i've been floating around out there in a sea of gender labels without a life preserver. i ask to be referred to with male pronouns because i feel most closely able to relate to them.

now, if you have gathered up tomatoes to hurl, have at it. i'm ready!! :outfield: :seeingstars:

Logicaly
09-05-2010, 11:11 AM
A lot of people call me Logic, which used to be Logicaly, but originally started as LogicalyImpaired, which was intentionally spelled wrong to further emphasize the name.

However some folks call me Tommy, others call me Tom, a few call me T. My sister calls me TJ, the whole name change thing has been hard on her. We are trying to get my nephew to call me TT when he starts talking, not sure where that came from. And my father calls me by my legal name.

So, I am cool with being called whatever, just call me something nice.

Zimmeh
09-05-2010, 11:21 AM
I have been using the Zimmyglrl name since 2003 on yahoo, so I decided to keep it when I came online with both sites. My family calls me Jen or Jennifer. I don't remember anyone ever calling me Jenny. Like DC, if someone yells Jennifer Lynn, I take a look around to see if I am in trouble. I created the Zimmyglrl sn because I was a huge Marilyn Manson fan back in the day and I loved how Zim Zum, the guitarist for the Antichrist Superstar cd, played and the girl part is misspelled to have a L instead of an I. I have also been called a shortshit, since I am only 5'0" tall and I can be bossy at times.

Thanks for starting this thread, Jesse!

10-29-2010, 09:17 PM
Most call me Playful or 1Play (I prefer Playful) but either is fine. Some spell the whole name out (which seems longish sometimes). Others call me Lis or Lissa. I don't mind my "real" name being used at all, but I also sometimes don't consider that it might be me if they don't quote me (how inane does that seem??) My full name is Melissa, but only strangers tend to call me that. And EVERYONE who knows me even a lil knows not to call me "Missy". I have ALWAYS hated that!!!

A certain friend still clings to my early 20's (GOD that feels like FOREVER AGO!) and calls me "Mel" ;) It's fine for them to do, but I prefer Lis or Lissa if you are gonna use part of my real name! :)

I'm pretty easy going and will answer to most anything - as long as I know you are talking to me! :) (I may answer even if you aren't) :)

Hey stop it! I can so change my mind! :sunglass:

Just wondering...what do you prefer to be called on here? What would you rather people not call you?

For instance, I prefer to be called either Tranzman or Jesse.

Massive
01-25-2011, 07:51 PM
This is my real life nickname, it came from a friend, we were stood in our one and only gay club one night, and she turned to look at me and said "Luvva, you're fuckin' massive!" (To explain, she's around about 5' 2'' ish, and I'm 6' in my boots) and the nickname just stuck, because I'm pretty much the tallest Dyke out of our particular group of friends, so it seemed fairly logical, and easy, for me to stick with this name lol
Most of my friends call me either Mass or Massi though, to be honest, I'm happy with anything along those lines, I'm not fussed!
I probably should add, to explain the way she talked to me, that I'm a Brit from the north of England ;)
