Hello!

I posted a bit about the colors of this site (for posterity's sake in case we change, they are currently green and pink) being the same as those in the Watermelon Tourmaline.

I thought it would be nice to have a place where we could talk about rocks if you are into all that woo-woo jazz. I most definitely am.

I've been studying the metaphysical properties of stones since 1985 or so. I've taught classes on it and used to the the instructor for this at the College of Wicca and Old Lore in Denver (now defunct.)

I know I'm not the only queer in the world to love stones. Who else?

And no, not 420 and not Mick Jagger, y'all.

Bunch of sillies...

I'm actually just curious about what goes behind the "woo-woo jazz" of stones. Perhaps for the newb a little cheat sheet or FAQ?

I used to collect stones when I lived in Australia. Me and my ex would go to gem shows and get some pretty stuff. My favorite woo woo jazz stone is Hematite. I love how it is supposed to keep away negative energy and what not. But we bought an Amethyst stone and someone told me if you sleep next to it you will have bad dreams. So of course I tried it and yeah don't sleep next to an Amethyst stone.

Linus, here is a piece from my stones website that I put together. (If you want to see the stones referenced, go here. http://www.anisoptera.com/stones/seven.htm)

Arwen's Guide to Stones

My hope here is to share with you what I think are seven good stones to begin working with. This is not a replacement for acknowledged Alleopathic or Homeopathic remedies. There are pictures of many of these stones in my Stone Gallery.

1. Apache Tear-- I chose this because of its grounding ability and its negativity absorption. It is also a teacher of past things and can help bring up latent memories. Here is a piece I love!

Other black stones are : Black tourmaline, Hematite, or Obsidian.

2. Carnelian-- This is for the belly and emotional issues. It helps you deal with things that are trapped and stuffed inside of you.

Other orange stones are: Orange Calcite, Amber

3. Citrine-- One of the two stones that are said to need no cleansing, Citrine is my energy stone. It affects the Solar Plexus chakra. Use this one when you are studying or need that extra bit of focus. This is a necklace I own of citrine.

Other yellow stones are: Yellow flourite, Amber, Gold Tiger's Eye

4. Rose Quartz-- Because it promotes self-love and self-healing. It is very very gentle and takes a great deal of emotional pain. It can be a great lesson giver as well when it shatters from overuse.

Other pink stones are: Unakite (actually this is green and pink),Pink Tourmaline, Morganite

5. Sodalite-- For the throat and communication centers. I like to call this one the Great Communicator. It facilitates getting your ideas out of your head/heart and into a form that can be understood by others. It is a lovely stone that is perfect for people whose jobs require them to communicate. Here is a piece (the large one in the middle) I have.

Other blue stones are: Indicolite, Iolite, Lapis Lazuli, Kyanite , Blue Lace Agate

6. Amethyst-- Because Amethyst is a negativity remover and a soother. A beginning healer would be able to use its energies easily and would be very encouraged by how simple Amethyst is to work with. This is a cluster I love.

Other purple stones are: Sugilite, Purple Flourite. Charoite

7. Clear Quartz-- This one is a basic because it is so easy to work with. It programs very well and cleans easily. I also think it lets you know when it needs cleaning better than most. And, once someone has gotten 'adept' at stones, quartz will adapt to more complex things as well. Here is a picture of special quartz I have.

Other clear stones are: Herkimer diamonds, diamonds

Grin, that's the power of suggestion at work for ya! Amethyst is actually known to be the nightmare breaker not the nightmare maker. :)

It is also known as the drunkard's stone. That's because Bacchus fell in love (well okay, lust... as much as a permanently drunken God can be) with a nymph named Amethyst.

He went towards her. Now you have to know that Bacchus rode in a chariot pulled by tigers. Just what the world needs, right? A drunk driver pulled by tigers.

Naturally Amethyst was scared. So she shrieked and ran and prayed to her patron Goddess, Diana.

Diana wasn't really in the mood for it so she turned Amethyst into a clear pillar of crystal. Bacchus realized his mistake and in his sorrow poured his jug of wine on the stone turning it the clear beautiful purple we see today.

He then stated that anyone who carried a piece of this stone could ward off the effects of alcohol.

Another variation of this tale is that he was ticked at all mortals and vowed to set his tigers on the next human he saw. That was Amethyst. I like my version better because it's more of a love story. LOL

Hematite is known to lower blood pressure as well as be an absorber/reflector of negativity. I can't wear regular hematite because it makes me really ill (I have low blood pressure already.)

If you crack it open, you will find why it is called Hematite (first part is related to the Greek word for "blood"). It's red inside!

I really love Specular Hematite too.

Arwen,

I've got a few stones that are significant for me. I've got several amethysts, in the form of a point, a chunk of geode, wands, and a merkaba. Theses are scattered around my home, as they tend to keep my dreams peaceful, along with a gentle balance of energy.

My majick box has my stones that I use for rituals and healing, but I couldn't tell you right off-hand what all I have in there right now. I know that I've got clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, hematite, lapis lazuli, but I can't say for sure what else at the moment. When I am in a a majick shop or other place where stones are offered, I just wait for the ones that speak to me, and I am called to take them home. I literally can feel when one is right and one isn't. It's instinctive. I don't require that they have a certain shape, color, or clarity, but I just close my eyes and hold them, and I can tell if they speak to me or not.

There are other stones that I can't or won't consider wearing, but I may add them to my box, because of connections they may have to people in my past. For instance, I can admire the beauty of emeralds, but I cannot bring myself to wear them, because they were the birthstone and were greatly loved by my late mother. I don't resent them for any reason. It's just that they bring my heart close to her when I'm around them, and the missing of her makes my heart ache for the longing of her company. Even speaking about it is bringing tears to my eyes, and she left this plane almost 23 years ago. In fact saying this makes me aware that the anniversary of the parting is in just 11 days.

OK, no time for tears. I've got a full morning ahead of me, and then I'm off for the afternoon to help my angel move in.

Know this...I will be pulling out the stones and sage, once everything gets settled, to restore balance to my home, and to seal hir safe in its embrace.

I know exactly what you mean, WT. They do call. It's why I try my best to stay out of metaphysical shops. OrganicButch saw me in one. It's not a pretty sight. LOL

And peace to you for your mother's passing anniversary. My mama crossed the Veil seven and a half years ago. I miss her terribly and talk to her all the time.

What a lovely, lovely thread! Thank you for starting it, Arwen!

Of the two of us, Gryph is really more the stone person, but I do love them also. He's got big stones in the doorways to ward and guard our place, and we both carry small stones in our pockets. Maybe he'll come in and post more about our stone people.

Arwen! Who knew? We must chat about gemstones.

My mother has me wearing bloodstone all the time. I wear aquamarine and riverstone as well. These are the things she gives me to combat the leukemia and blood clots. She communicates with her guides to ensure I have the right thing and then hand makes the necklaces. I wash them in sea salt and warm water twice a week, and dry them in the sun.

I have never heard of the healing power of stones, but Momma is adamant and while I initially thought it was silly I now think there is for SURE healing properties. No surprise my dad thinks it's a waste of time.

I'd love to hear what you think may help. Mom just set up a thing with the homeopathic doctor in her town where she does gemstone consulting once a week and sometimes readings. I am awaiting her to send some kind of red stones for my son whom she says is a Ruby Child. What is a Ruby Child?

Do you think color is important in ones environment as well? Mom wants lots of reds in the boys room and is sewing curtains, pillows and some other stuff for his room. This is all new to me and I'd love to hear others thoughts.

Totally must have been the power of suggestion because I had some really messed up dreams. I love that story though I will get some Amethyst and I need more Hematite. Some to break open just to see the inside and some to have for myself.

Fellow lover of rocks, metals, and stones here. :)

I make gourd art and often decorate the bowls with different stones, depending on who I'm giving the gift to. I also collect stones for myself for metaphysical purposes. I learned about gemstones from my mother.

A few of my favorites are fire opal, jasper, hematite, and amber. I also love silver and copper.

I'm a rock lover as well. Great thread.

I have some rose quartz and Amethyst that was given to me by a healer in Sedona, AZ

I also picked up some Red Stones from the Bell Rock Vortex area in Sedona as well. It is legended for its healing powers as well.

The Sedona area in general is a fantastic metaphysical and geological area. A place where I need to revisit now that I am in a better place in my life.

I'm usually not one to believe in hocus pocus stuff but without question the Sedona area has a very strong metaphysical presence. You would have to be dead not to feel it while visting.

I am a lover of all things rocks, gems and stones!

I have had an extensive rock collection including rocks from Guatemala to Alcatraz... some from Australia and Hawaii.. all given to me my caring people and some I gathered myself. I do feel rocks carry energy and I love how they feel. I have used them in massage with clients..

I use Quartz crystal to clear bad energy out and let the good in.. Seems to work too!

I have a rose quartz that is my favorite ..

I do love this thread!

I would very much agree and I would suggest you get some brown jasper as well. It's a good healing, stable stone.

I am awaiting her to send some kind of red stones for my son whom she says is a Ruby Child. What is a Ruby Child?

I agree with your mama about the color being important. I know next to nothing about Ruby people. I think maybe they are the children of Indigos? bit? Do you know?

Adele, I'll do some research on other healing for you. My first thought is that you also need garnet. Check with your Mama though. She sounds like my kind of gal!

We can go back to the rock shop...if I can find it. I don't remember the name of it, do you?

I adore fire opal but it LEAPS out of my hand usually. People laugh but it does. Amber...do not come around me if you have on amber jewelry.

I will totally mug you for it!

I really like that you have rocks from all over the world. Just no lava from Hawaii, right? :)

My mother used to despair of me. I always had rocks in my pockets as a kid...then I started it again when I was an adult. ha!

I am in the middle of a move...well at the tail end of the actual move and the beginning of the unpack/purge.

I just found a rock I thought I'd lost. I'm so happy! It's a Petoskey stone. For those who are unfamiliar with this rock, it is named for Petoskey Michigan. It is fossilized brain coral.

I used to have it on my desk wherever I worked as a reminder.

I would pick it up when everything was going beserk around me and remind myself that to this rock--this ancient thing that was once a living organism (and still, to me, sentient)--all of the madness was but the blink of an eye.

I called it my perspective stone.

Did you know that a good stone for easing a headache is chrysophase? I once had a large piece that I thought looked like a frozen piece of the sea. I had it on my desk at work. One day a woman walked in and said, "That looks just like a frozen piece of the sea."

:|

I did what any good stone witch would do. I gave it to her. She promised to pass it along to the next person who also got the magic of that particular rock.

Often I've just been a pass-through for stones.

What about you? Ever find the perfect rock only to realize you were supposed to give it to someone else?

At different times in my life, I've been more attuned to different modalities, including the healing properties of stones. It's just fascinating.

I don't feel much affinity for my birthstone, which is peridot. I do have some pieces, but it's purely an aesthetic connection. I have wondered if there is really anything to the "Hallmark" birthstone lists.

On my fireplace mantle (the whole fireplace is natural slate), I have a display of an amethyst cluster, a rutilated quartz crystal point, a bluebird feather, and a beautiful piece of petrified wood. That last one, the wood, was an estate sale find that made me so happy.

I carry a small piece of rose quartz. For some reason, although I have some hematite, I find it to be overwhelming. I've read some mixed things about hematite, as well as jet. I love things like old jet buttons, but they seem to hold some negativity for me.

My favorite piece of all is a slice of watermelon tourmaline. Tourmalines, in general, are so fascinating. Their ability to conduct energy is amazing. Learning about tourmalines is what elevated the idea of using stones for healing from "alternative" to an approach that made some practical sense.

Cool thread Arwen. I have a few questions for you. I'll start off easy.

What is a good way for me to wash the rocks I have. (I was going to say my rocks but, ya know where that would have gone!) I hear different things. What each thing has in common is, it was told to me by someone with not much of a clue. Do they even need to be washed? I will admit, they have kind of a funky "feel" to them lately.

My grandpa polished rocks when I was a kid. I have lost the one he gave me, still has a sad note to it for me. When I was a kid and learned that rocks have "powers", when I saw them polished, I always thought, "entombment of powers". That leads me to another question. When rocks are polished, are their powers altered in anyway? Are they more powerful in their natural state?

Thank you.

(now I want to go lick rocks!) (zip it, you pervs!)

Lynn, here is a helpful chart of birthstones from different schools of thought.

http://www.jewelrymall.com/birthstones.html

I keep a piece of peridot in my wallet. It's said that it will keep money close to you. :) I also carry rose quartz on me to give to people.

Careful with the jet. It is an absorber of negativity. You can get other people's unhappiness. I don't let folks handle my jet for that reason. They don't need my grief!

Ryan! I do wash most of my rocks--just not the halite. I don't think that a polished stone has an edge (hee) over a natural stone. I use them alike! So sad about that stone from your grandfather, but I guess someone else needed it more! P.S. I hear Gemme keeps rocks in her bra in case you still want to lick rocks.

Gryph, darlin', welcome! Come in and share whatever you feel moved to share. I am all ears.

Since Ryan asked about cleaning stones, I thought I'd post my short article on this.

CHARGING AND CLEANSING STONES

Some you can clean in salt water and some will DISSOLVE in water! Not even salt water, just water! Selenite is one and Halite is another that do not like water. There are plenty of other cleansing methods though. The following four are *not* ones I have made up all by myself. They are ways that I have tried myself though.

Methods of Cleansing a Crystal
1. Sunlight: Place the tired or full crystal in a place where it can receive a full dose of sun for a few hours. If it still "feels" bad, then leave it there for a full three days thus allowing it to soak in the lunar and solar energies.

2. Moonlight: Place the crystal where it can receive the light of the full
moon for a night.

3. Smudging: Pass the crystal through the smoke of burning herbs. Some
popular herb combinations are A) sage, sweetgrass and cedar; B) frankincense and myrrh; C) sage alone. Again, go with your intuition.

4. Earth: Bury the crystal in the earth. Sometimes, when the crystal is
through with you, burying it in the earth is a way of releasing it.(NOTE: Mark where you buried it or you will be like me and that winter squirrel digging up holes everywhere trying to find that last darn rock!)

Methods of Charging a Crystal

Once your crystal is clean, then you may want to charge it for a specific purpose. You can also just allow the crystal to be and enjoy it as it is. It is up to you.

1. Holding the crystal in your power hand, ground and center yourself. Once you are settled, begin to pull energy up from the earth. Feel it pour into your body. Consciously channel this energy into your stone while thinking of your purpose. It is important to remain focused on your intent. For instance, if working a justice spell, you don't want to think about cleaning the cat's teeth. *smile*

2. Smudging the crystal while focusing on the smoke imbuing the crystal with energy for your work.
You can see that the whole point here is focusing yourself. Do remember that a crystal is no more than a tool just like your athame, bolline, wand, robe, etc. You do not need props to work magic. Personally I prefer props because I am a bit lazy at times and it helps me get into that right frame of mind.

I do NOT keep rocks in my bra. They're in my britches. :p

One does not need to lick rocks, so to speak. If you wet a rock it looks more like it would look polished. I choose to lick them. Yes, I would agree. Strange child turns into strange adult. :big grin:

For me, this happens with anything, not just stones. I used to always give away jewelry after I'd worn it a while, and I've had all kinds of things including stones need to be passed on to others. It's kind of haphazard with me... I just do it when I hear loudly enough that it's time.

I don't feel much affinity for my birthstone, which is peridot. I do have some pieces, but it's purely an aesthetic connection. I have wondered if there is really anything to the "Hallmark" birthstone lists.

I am a fan of stones. I am also a foster parent to, well whatever wanders in apparently. Clear/Cloudy quartz are the most transient in my house. I have some pieces I use for healing work that I would not, in good conscience, give to someone else, that would just be plain cruel.

I have a fondness of plain old black river stones. Many of the Medicine Wheels that I have built are made of black river stones. I also like to use them to keep and hold space. I have a wonderful assortment of stones and gems, many of which I regret to say I do not remember the names of. One of my favorites is apophyllite. It is a great generator and will help me if I need to give another stone a quick tune up. It has also benefited me by clearing my healing stones, especially if the work I have done has been particularly heavy.

I too love peridot and it resonates much more to me than aquamarine. We must both be March babies bit. Are you a Pisces? I am a cusper so some day I am soooo Aries and other days I am Pisces. I am much easier to deal with in Pisces:eyebat:.

What are some of the stones others use in healing work, personal or otherwise?

There are a number of gemstones and semi-precious stones that I feel connected and drawn to and they are usually NOT my birthstone, the emerald. In fact, most of the genuine emeralds I see look fake to me. Maybe it's because they are fabricated but that shade of green just does not look normal.

I love, love, love sapphires. I have other stones that I lean toward but the dark, deep sapphires, they call me.

Hello FoxyShaman.

To your question about magical waters, I think any--well nearly--stone can be used. There are ones that would dissolve and there are others that would poison so I would be cautious about which ones I used.

Personally I like to do healing waters in the appropriately colored bottle as well. It's been another lifetime since I've made healing waters or hung herbs or made tinctures. I think it's time to get back to that part of myself.

I used to make a decent catnip tincture. Would deal with a headache or menstrual cramps in a heartbeat but boy did it taste bad! LOL

I am glad we are both here to chat away... :canadian:

So, Miss Water Priestess do you also make and use moon water??

I'm glad too! The more, the merrier! :gossip:

Moon water... do you mean charging water under the full moon? Normally what I charge under the moon is me... although it's been a long while since I was able to do so effectively, because it's been a while since I was able to empty all the way out. I guess I've always held stress and pain in my body--not just mine, everyone's--and without being able to drain it all away, I can't take in as much moon energy as I used to. Gonna have to fix that.

I think one reason I love Wichita is that I live within the influence of two big rivers, plus numerous canals and small creeks. The abundance of the water here soothes my soul.

The water I use in healing work is deep underground and may be a metaphor for energy--I tend to see it as water and energy both at once.

Arwen, I know some stones cannot be immersed in water. But I don't always remember which ones. What are the ones you would recommend not to use in water because of that? Please refresh this old foxes memory

Yes Bit I do mean making moon charged water. I make both full and new moon. For healing work where I take something out I ask my patients to drink full moon water. I see the rays of the moons light filling the places. New Moon water I ask the patient to drink if we have returned something. The new moon being a time of potential.

Sorry to hear that you hold other's stuff in your body. That is sad and very taxing. I do that sometimes, but I think your empathic abilities run different than mine. You seem to be more physiologically challenged by your healing abilities than I am. I feel for you. I have had to change things over the years to help me to not take on other's pain and suffering. As an example I would very often suffer sore wrists and other oddiites in my arms when working with a patient. I started to wear bracelets, and have made different ones over the years. I find that they act as a barrier between the ick coming out and what ick stays on me. I currently have a thick carnelian one and a bone and antler one. They seem to work very well for me. My wrists have not been bothered once since I started to use them.

<insert sigh> thanks for the mini vacation, going back to work now...

Bracelets... how come I never thought of that?

Truly, Foxy, I am so mentally geared in this and it's gotta be that I lived for SO LONG with people who were either uncomfortable with or downright hostile to my being Pagan. I have trouble just making the simplest gestures! and I don't use tools much anymore either... it's all mind work for me and I suspect I might be coming on time to break out of that restriction.

Maybe I need to wear a stone that's really absorbent, let it accumulate everything and then cleanse it.... hm... :deepthoughts:

Selenite and Halite are the two I can think of off hand that will dissolve or so I remember. There is also one that has arsenic or is arsenic...I simply can not remember which! Sorry.

Hi Foxyshaman, Awren and Bit,
I love the moon water idea, I do the same with rain water from a Thunderstorm when there is lightning involved, saving it in jars for times when more energy is needed.

I practice Medical Qi Gong and Acupuncture and we have Taoist visualizations for "pulling down the Moon" to increase yin, calm emotions, connect with the divine feminine. We channel the moon when giving treatments as well. Adding Moon water is a wonderful idea, for making yin tonic herb formulas with as well, thanks. I like that.

I use obsidian when I need to block energy. I have been known to tape it to me even, lol back of my neck, solar plexus, over my heart to block......stuff. Red silk works great as well. A silk slip can take on a whole new purpose energetically. I agree with the use of bracelets to keep patients energy from traveling up your arms. Protection is one of the first things we learn.........

Great convo, I'll be back :candle: Pashi

OH some of my favorite stones? Snowflake Obsidian, Hercimer Diamonds, Moonstones, Rubys.

Thanks Arwen for the info. Good thing to know about Selenite. I like it, fortunately I have never used it in moon water. Tender Mercies.

Bit, how tragic that you lived with such ignorance around you. I have had that and will never tolerate it again. And to be stymed in your expression of your spirit!! They needed :hammer: hey?? I like tools, however not everyone is the same. Oh and I like :hammer: sometimes they come in handy for ignorant people.

Passionaria thanks for droppin in!!! Excellent info. I admit I know almost Zero about Medical Qi Gong, so what is that? And how do you practice and how long do you have to train? I love the idea of thunderstorm water, it makes my foxy hair stand on excited end...

Snowflake Obsidian has been one of my favorites for a long time. I put stones in my bra, and then I forget them and then I take my bra off and they go across the room!! One of my favs is Chrsycolla. I like lots of gems and lots of stones too. Oh and really like amber, any amber, any color..love all of it.

Ok, have to join this one as well. I love my stone!! While I tend to work more predominantly with herbs I do also keep a good selection of stones as well. I have actually found that getting out my stones and letting the kids play with them is a wonderful way of clearing the chaos from my home. They ground the kids without me even letting on that this was my intention with giving them the stones in the first place. :D

Welcome everyone! It's so nice to find fellow metaphysical rockhounds to chat with.

Pashi, I adore snowflake obsidian. It has the energy of letting us see both sides to a story--which can be a drag at times, but more often than not is very useful.

Jenn, do you have any particular favorites? Do you find yourself drawn to a certain color of stone?

I do have a few favorites... I love working with crystal quarts, of any variety. I currently have an Amethyst Crystal Geode piece that is a favorite of mine. I also collect and work with Amber. Hmm... other stones I am drawn to are... Garnet, Opal, Peridot, Hematite, and Malachite.

This is a very cool experience Bit. I guess I shouldnt have been so greedy and left an offering myself. However, I was more on a mission to find pease than true love. ;)

This is so true. Those mountains are speaking to EVERYONE who comes near... I wish more people were listening.

I left an offering on Bell Rock and asked for help finding my love. A week later Gryph walked into my life. :love1:

Hey everyone. I am a collector of stones too. When I did massage, I offered stones at the end for a take home gift. I never picked the stones. I allowed the client to close their eyes and allow their spirits to pick. I would advise them on how to clean them and charge them.

It's funny though, as I am growing older, I seem to be losing touch with the spiritual aspects of my life that I once enjoyed. I think that I am being drawn back to it, this process seems slow coming though.

F.Y.I. My favorite stone is a cross stone that I found at the beach.

I use stones in my healing work. I like to put stones in my patients hands while I am working. I find it helps to keep some people present. I also use stones to help me to get stuff out of the body, when needed. I also use different stones for healing wheels. There are some wheels that use very specific stones and then some that are built with intuition.

Right now in my life I have no need for more stones. Not that I don't want more stones, but I seriously do not need more stones. Its like that with candles too... I keep saying to myself as I am inevitably drawn to the shiney things... I need another one like I need another hole in the head, hole in the head. :boink: And that generally stops me!!

I have had crystal healings. Sometimes the energy of all of those stones is pretty darn intense. But I find it quite healing.

I just went to get a stone as a gift. Couldn't get to my boxes of rocks. Turned around and got tugged on by a hunk of quartz. It's not the clearest or the sparkliest but wow! The energy was amazing. I've never felt that energy from this stone.

It was almost as if my thinking about needing a gift activated that stone to be "seen."

Anyone ever have this before?

Don't sleep too close to an amethyst if you're mind isn't right. Just sayin! Anyway my favorite used to be emerald but I've moved on to hematite. I love the magnet in them for some reason. I'm sure there is a spiritual connection going on there but I have no clue what it is right now. I like to play with them or wear them around my neck.

Hematite's very grounding. I carried it for a while when I was feeling disconnected; it helped me settle down.

I adore my amethysts! I have them all over my office and my house. I even have some in my car. I wear amethyst and opal daily - they are my signature. I have other pieces that I wear - Labradorite, Carnelian, Unakite (love this!), ruby, emerald, diamond (from grandmothers & mother), just to name a few.

In my home I have many other stones. A huge tricolour Fluorite and a huge Goshenite given to me by Shelia (she found it over in Franklin) are currently next to my bed.

Jet is another favorite. It's always the first stone I touch. Just can't seem to get enough of it.

It's mostly protection from negative entities. The group I'm part of are mostly sensitives who are coming into their own, none of us, myself included have discovered their paths, we're all either healers and empaths. We go to many different kinds of haunted environments, with mixed receptions to our presence, sometimes without protection other than that provided by our guides and family members who've passed on. Because we're all in pretty much the early stages of our development, more than anything my main concern is that we don't really know what we need as protection, some of the team have done this kind of investigation before, we're all firm friends, luckily, but I think we need more than just a solid bond of friendship!

Okay. Amethyst is not what I would choose for this. I would make pendants/bracelets (something to be worn in contact with the skin) with the following three stones:

Black Tourmaline
Rainbow Obsidian
Howlite

The howlite is said to help create awareness and positive emotional expression. It is a stress-reducer. My feeling is that it will help you discern from truly negative entities and merely unhappy ones.

Rainbow obsidian because obsidian (while not a stone per se) does help block/ground negativity. Rainbow in particular can assist in exploring otherworldly experiences.

Black tourmaline because it is an excellent reflector of negative energy as well as a good grounding stone. I use it a lot in my stone healing.

Massive,
Dark smokey quartz crystals also work extremely well for pulling negative energy. That's one reason I love my Grandmother Skull so much. She isn't real dark, but she is dark enough and she has an occlusion behind one eye. When you look into that eye you can see a rainbow. Its really cool to see the rainbow, but she does squick some folks out.

She and I do hunting work, we go after the "bad guys" so to speak. She is not the soft gentle little round grandma who gives you cake and smiles. She is the kind of grandma with teeth and claws and is not afraid to use them.

Great thread.. I have been lurking in here quietly and just wanted to thank you all for sharing.. I have been keeping a few of my stones close.. Tiger's Eye, Snow Flake Obsidion, Amythist, and a quartz crystal to bind and direct them..

I've also stuck a few stones under the register at work.. lol.. Now there are lil notes and stuff under there to bring in positive energy and money.. Funny how well my co-workers took to the stones. I do have to replace them pretty regular.. I grew lax and left them in there for a couple of months and when I touched them my hand cramped up there was so much icky on them.. lol

Thank you all again :)

the pain in my body is relentless. And everywhere. I feel like what I had in me has been drained out of me and thats why I am in so much pain. My body mourns...it really is time for me to kick up my stone work...

I have chunks of amythest on my alter, which is in my greenhouse. I also have chunks of citrine too. I am extremely drawn to cordelian. Amber is that which calls me to it so it can do its work thru me. I have my clear crystals on my alter and one I wear with my goddess. I wear hematite much. I cannot have obsidian around me for it acts like a conduit for that elephant god. (the name is not coming to me this late at night but I believe it starts with a G) I have given rose quartz to people who have lost loves in their lives..it is a gentle healing stone.

Over the past 6 weeks I have acquired some pretty amazing pieces.

These followed me home from Maggie Valley:

a chunk of soothing blue calcite - as big as my fist
a piece of quartz absolutely loaded with blue tourmaline - also as big as my fist
a cluster with heulandite, hematite and stilbite
about a dozen assorted small clear quartz clusters
a small slab of raw petrified wood
a small obsure multicolored piece that when cleaned revealed black, blue, pink and green tourmaline on quartz
green jade bear

Purchased here in Charlotte and in Concord:

a small piece of moldavite
a very nice chunk of black tourmaline with a skinny thread of quartz running through it
some rutile quartz
an amazing natural citrine point
some blue tigers eye
a small piece of howlite
dalmation jasper buffalo
several Tibetan quartz points - one is very special - there are many things to see inside and they keep changing
a beautiful seer stone (ema egg)
a small selenite "log" that is nearly clear
a spectacular cluster of apophyllite and stilbite (this called to me out of everything my friend brought back from the rock show up in Franklin)
a piece of raw jet bigger larger than my hand and nearly 2 inches thick (OMG I completely adore jet!)
a beautiful slab of lepidolite
and an absolutely spectacular piece of mica and kyanite that's as big as a peach

I only bring home what calls my name and believe it or not have not spent a lot of money.

I like stones and geology. I have a number of favorites, but right now, my favorite is blue chalcedony. I have a pretty single terminated pendant with a silver setting that I wear constantly. It helps to increase patience and protect you from the casual nastiness that people send out, like road rage or the evil eye. It makes me feel calmer and it's just so pretty.

The other day I noticed that the special Tibetan Quartz I bought last week is also an Enhydro. I've found 2 pockets of water so far...there's so much going on in that stone and I cen't wait to see what it will show me next. I love it!

Saturday a couple of nice tabbies, one twinned to a generator, a singing piece that looks like a knife blade, a couple of wands and a beautiful Isis phantom followed me home...The owner of one of my favorite local shops let me take a huge tray of crystals out on the front porch - I sat in the sun for over an hour with them...heaven, pure heaven!

At the same shop I had an intimate encounter with a bag of raw sugilite...gave me chills...so totally cool and the shop owner got a huge charge out of my reaction. No sugalite followed me home - I'm not ready for it yet.

Hi softness, this is an absolutely beautiful stone. Hard to find and expensive. Pretty powerful too. I was taken by surprise when I put my hand in the bag on Saturday...got tingly all over, hair on arms & back of neck stood up then I got weak in the knees and a bit dizzy. Totally unexpected and way cool. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing because I was talking with the shop owner and not looking at what I was doing when I put my hand in that bag.

Here's some info with links:

SUGALITE This violet stone is essential for psychic development and strengthening the Third Eye. It helps focus you during meditation and balances the pituitary and pineal glands. Sugalite is believed to dissipate feelings of negativity and anger and to encourage feelings of happiness and peace. It is associated with those born under the sign of Aquarius.

Sugilite (Sugalite, Royal Azel, Lavulite, Luvulite Cybeline, Wesselite)
Sugilite is sometimes known as "the healer's stone" because of its great ability to enhance healing. It is associated with the third eye and crown chakras. It lessens effects of shock and disappointment. In addition to its well known enhancement of crystal healing ability, it also strengthens spirituality, psychic ability and channelling. Sugilite is a stone that helps perfect spiritual love and open the heart chakra to unconditional love. It can help manifest one's natural gifts and protect against harsh realities. It lowers hostility, anger, jealousy and prejudice and gives a sense of freedom. Psychically, it is excellent for all kinds of psychic and spiritual protection. It has been used for headaches and to decrease all types of discomfort. Sugilite is associated with the brow chakra. It is also called Sugalite, Royal Azel, Lavulite, Luvulite Cybeline, or Wesselite.

I am now the honored caretaker of several new items:

a pair of Amethyst spheres; each much larger than a tennis ball

Rose Quartz sphere; slightly larger than a golf ball

Black Agate sphere with a beautiful clear quartz "eye"; this sphere is also larger than a tennis ball

Amethyst point and a Quartz point; each about 3"

Clear Quartz Ema Egg

Amethyst Ema Egg

Ema Eggs are river tumbled stones found in the Ema River in Brazil. The outside is kind of frosted and they are cut to expose a beautiful "window" allowing you to view a clear center. They are also called Seer Stones or Window Quartz. http://crystal-cure.com/window-quartz.html

Onyx pyramid -green/tan varigated

Black Onyx cat with gemstone collar and Abalone ears

Blue Quartz slab

Bloodstone slab

a large piece of Lava rock collected in NC

Third Eye Agate http://www.faroutthings.com/xcart/product.php?productid=792&cat=289&page=1

Shiva Lingam stone http://crystal-cure.com/shivalingam.html

3 moonstones

large Selenite tower (uncarved)

another large piece of uncarved Selenite - this lays on its side and is more of a trough shape

about a dozen or so pieces of Tibetan Quartz, including three Enhydros

a geode half that I am 99.99% certain is Blue Chalcedony

From my Dad & stepmother's trip AZ/NM:

about a dozen rocks my Dad collected for me from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and a small amount (about 2-3 tablespoons) of soil from Monument Valley (collected with permission)

From the last trip to the Old Reed Gold Mine:

White Quartz from outside the mine (it's one of the indicator rocks for gold veins) and several huge pieces of Slate and Quartz from the semi-dry creekbed. I had some gold flakes from panning but gave it to Shelia since she was more interested in than I was - I was interested in the larger, native to the area, rocks in the pans we were told to discard...Noooooooooooooooo!:shocking:

Once again I did not spend much on the items that were purchased - they just have a way of finding me

I'm heading to Maggie for the holiday. Naturally I will visit my favorite shops there. It will be interesting to see what follows me home.

Some pink Kunzite and a Rainbow Obsidian sphere adopted me yesterday.

Since I will be in Maggie on Friday I'm going to pay a little visit to the Maggie Valley Rock Shop and the Dish Barn and see who follows me home. If I wasn't going by myself I would hike up on Chambers Mountain - there's a lot of Kyanite up there. I love Kyanite but not nearly as much as I love Jet! So many new friends followed me home from the mountains:

Unakite - a huge chunk from Mitchell County;
Tibetan Turquoise;
a large Smoky Elestial Quartz;
a huge piece of Sodalite;
Ruby in Zoisite - 2 really good size pieces;
Fuschite - one small piece and one really large;
Ema Eggs - 3 large, 3 small - these are all oblong pillars and have an additional cut so they all stand;
Celestite;
a piece of multicoloured Calcite - brown, red, orange and blue;
13 assorted, small quartz points, including a couple of laser wands, some recordkeepers, singers, bridges and barnacles - many are also empathetic crystals;
a large, about 3-4", Planet Quartz point that is also hematoid and water clear with fractures creating lots of rainbows;
a small Tektite; and
2 small clear quartz clusters

Also, I was gifted with an absolutely beautiful green garnet.

i just ran into this thread... while i read most of it i still have to come back to finish... its a great thread...

rocks and gems have always talked to me... i am not learned in any way... i just do what it tells me to do... it being whatever mineral i am connected with at the time...

i recently gave away all of my healing stones... i met someone that needed more than i did... when i was trying to get a feel for what would help her everything i had spoke to me... so i gave my entire collection away...

since then i have replaced a couple of pcs... actually mostly greens... i am really in need of some clears... i feel it... i feel like i need to sit under the moon and recharge myself...

i recently ran into a really neat gift that i have sent as a present to someone that needed what it had... there is a place called dahlonega, ga... it has lots of mines and such... there is a site from near there ( http://www.goldngem.com/index.php (http://www.goldngem.com/index.php) ) the place offers bags of dirt that you can sift thru and find all kinds of different gems and rocks... for 45$ delivered you get a great variety in the bag... its huge... prolly 25#s of dirt... and... i am a firm believer in playing in dirt... a friend just turned 40... she got a bag of dirt from me... and ended up with about 20 pcs out of it... and.... from the sound of it loved playing in the dirt again as an adult...

so... anyway... i am rambling...
i just wanted to thank all of you for sharing all this info with us... i hope i can retain some of it... tell me what i should keep around me to do that? what stone will help with my memory retention problems???

ok... enough... thanks again...

I turn 50 in March. This is SO going on my birthday list! What a fabulous idea. :)

Memory retention would be citrine. Also good for writer's blocks. It's often called the student's stone because it helps you focus.

Allowing yourself to be led by the stones is what I do rather than relying on my eyes. I think we never really own our stones, rather we are merely caretakers. Like you I give mine away when led.

The gift of dirt sounds wonderful! I love having my hands in soil too. When the warm weather returns I plan to go up to Franklin and play in the dirt at the gem mines - the real dirt, not the enriched stuff. Or go back out to the Reid Gold Mine and do some panning. Whether panning or mining you get to play in the water and in the dirt enabling you to connect with most of the elements.

In addition to Citrine for memory you can use Opal or Howlite.

Every time I sleep near an amethyst I have weird lucid dreams. Anyone else ever have that?

How interesting...i know it will help prevent nightmares. Can you elaborate on "wierd"? Have you cleansed it? Try softening its energies with some rose quartz.

The worst experience i've had with anything was with some stibnite. i encountered some last year and absolutely couldn't get it out of my mind...i craved it. At that time the cost of that particular piece was far beyond my budget. But earlier this year i came across some that was within my budget and bought it. Not too long afterward i was overcome by intense negativity. Despite cleansing and the use of sodalite and chlorite (stibnite is a trickster, and toxic, so you have to be very careful with it) it was really freaky. After some conversations with a friend i realised the best thing to do was to remove it from my home and do some serious cleansing and casting.

When i went to bury it i immediately broke out in hives from head to toe. As i was digging the hole i was swarmed with these little gnat things. All cleared after i finished.

i was really obsessed with this mineral...think "Lord of the Rings"...it was my "precious". Today i won't go near the stuff and won't touch anything it has come in contact with when i am in a crystal shop. No, no, no...

lol @ my precious

I think it must have been the energy. The dream was about me trying to hook up with my mom. Yes it was effed the eff up. I was like woah!!!! I put it there too on purpose just to see what would happened and I didn't even think to clean it first so it was my own fault. We went to a gem fair and got it from there.

My friend went to a therapist and the therapist gave her a necklace with a crystal on it. In the session she called my friend fat and made her feel like crap then gave her this necklace. So my friend felt like crap of course after so we made her burn the crystal (because we had a fire going) and she felt much better, back to her old happy self. We also forbid her from going to see that therapist again. I didn't know therapists gave out stuff like that.

Oh my...yes you must cleanse and charge that piece asap. i've made that mistake myself. BTW - we're in a full moon now...cleanse it in salt water, smudge with sage and frankincense then place it in the moonlight to recharge before reprogramming.

Wondering about your dream...perhaps the stone was helping you by removing enough blockage or stress associated with your relationship with your mother to enable you to see something. Try meditating on your dream while holding some smoky quartz.

Called her fat? Oh lawdy!!! Sounds like that therapist needs some therapy herself. But they're human and sometimes they cross boundaries...mine did a couple of weeks ago and after discussion with friends i fired her.

Amethyst was the first stone I was ever attracted to. And I still quite like it. It could be that the stone was helping you clear your energies creating insteresting dreams.

Ebon did it continue after the first night? Or did you remove the stone?

I have half a geode of amethyst that weighs approx. 45 lbs resting between my bedroom and the rest of the house. I have a healing room in my house and see a varying number of patients every week. I find that it helps to keep the energy of healing (and not so healing energy) out of my bedroom. I sleep and feel much better with it there. I noticed a huge difference right away.

I also cleanse my stones under full and new moons. I love the feel of them after I take them back into my healing room. They look all sparkly and twinkly and ready to work!! Or sit around and look pretty while absorbing negative energies/entities.

I can't use my quartz very much, clear or white, the vibrations make me vibrate right outta my head. Sometimes I like going into crystal shops just to feel the top of my head come off. And other times I can't walk through the doors. These are stores that generally have very large quartz crystals. You know those chunks, they generally are more than my monthly salary :|.

Thanks for listening.

Wow that is awesome work you do there. I can (but can't) wait to get to that level.

No I removed it because it freaked me out. I didn't understand that it could actually be clearing blockages I was a lot younger and less wiser than I am now.

I recently went out of town and my friends had one sitting over my head where I was sleeping. I didn't notice it until I woke up after I had the weird dreams again but they were not as weird as the ones I had about my mom.

I'm attracted to hematite.

Interesting..is this new?

No it's been around for ages.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hematite

Hematite, also spelled as haematite, is the mineral form of iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3), one of several iron oxides. Hematite crystallizes in the rhombohedral system, and it has the same crystal structure as ilmenite and corundum. Hematite and ilmenite form a complete solid solution at temperatures above 950 °C.

Hematite is a mineral, colored black to steel or silver-gray, brown to reddish brown, or red. It is mined as the main ore of iron. Varieties include kidney ore, martite (pseudomorphs after magnetite), iron rose and specularite (specular hematite). While the forms of hematite vary, they all have a rust-red streak. Hematite is harder than pure iron, but much more brittle. Maghemite is a hematite- and magnetite-related oxide mineral.

Huge deposits of hematite are found in banded iron formations. Grey hematite is typically found in places where there has been standing water or mineral hot springs, such as those in Yellowstone National Park in the United States. The mineral can precipitate out of water and collect in layers at the bottom of a lake, spring, or other standing water. Hematite can also occur without water, however, usually as the result of volcanic activity.

Clay-sized hematite crystals can also occur as a secondary mineral formed by weathering processes in soil, and along with other iron oxides or oxyhydroxides such as goethite, is responsible for the red color of many tropical, ancient, or otherwise highly weathered soils.

The first stone i was attracked to is quartz...in fact i own more of this than anything else. One of the most relaxing things for me is to just run my hands through a big bowl of it. I've got Tibetans, enhydros, phantoms and Arkansas just to name a few. But my favourite piece by far is a big chunk that was given to me earlier this year by a friend from his yard. He just tossed it to me one day. i love this piece - it has an amazing energy...

i love crystal shops too and can/have spent hours in them not te mention a lot of $$$. There's a place up in Asheville called Points of Light and one of these days i'm going to pay them a visit. But i'll need a chaperone for my wallet...LOL

Miss Scarlett you can have all the quartz you like!! You won't offend me at all:blink:. I have two beautiful hunks of quartz from the Berkshires. I was at a Twilight Covening Retreat. I was in that area for a workshop at the Omega Institute. Have either of you been there? And then since I was so close I went to the Retreat. The woods were BEAUTIFUL. It was there I picked up my pieces. I use them quite often when I am building medicine wheels or just building a circle for "whatever". Those don't seem to affect me. But yeah "clearer" quartz... it makes my arm tingle from my fingers to my elbow. The clearer the more the zing.

Ebon, I really like Hematite. I also am very attracted to Apache Tears and Moqui Balls (or shaman stones) those are, to me, exceptionally grounding. It is interesting that amethyst has that affect on you. You may be much more sensitive than you give yourself credit for. (??)

I can't buy any more crystals. This may sound a bit out there, so bear with me...but my stones are adamant no more come in. In their "eye" (not quite sure how to put that out there without seeming even more flakey) I don't use them enough, so why would I bring more in.

So, other than looking pretty, what do you use your stones for? If I may ask that is.

One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE STONES is chrysocolla. I love it. I love the look, the feel and it is beautiful set in silver. I wish I knew how much I loved it when I was in Peru. I would have brought much more home. It is sooooooo expensive here.

Well I used my hematite for grounding and balancing. I usually transfer any negative energy into them then clean it. I don't usually use them to look pretty although I know some people use them for both or just to look pretty. I had an awesome hematite ring. I think meditation is very important to keep grounded. I have a daily practice that takes literally five minutes. I use my rattle and 'blend' with my authentic self... some say god self... some say higher self... I have no definition for what I blend with... except to say that it helps me stay in my body, present and focused. My grounding exercise before my patients come can vary from silent prayer; to dance to playing my drum or just sitting silently brushing my thoughts away like dust off an antique (me being the antique that is ;))

Ebon I love the quotes from Malcolm X and Einstein in your signature. These are two of my favorite Einstein quotes:

Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. (That is my motto!!)

Wow you have an amazing collection of stones. Absolutely amazing. Flourite took me a while to get used to. I could sense it as soon as someone walked into circle with it on them, or if they came to my healing room with it on them. I couldn't touch it for a few years. I find it, and give it away. Except for these two beautiful pieces that are sssssooooo ddddeeeeeeppppp purple they are incredible. But, I learnt that you cannot leave flourite in moon water indefinately because it does affect the clarity of the stone.

I am sure they appreciate that you dedicate a room, lovingly, to them. I think that is quite lovely.

I so wish y'all were here at the bash.

I enjoy rose quartz for sure. I haven't intentionally made this sort of vortex but as I've aquired more and more little stones and roots and herbs and candles and oils and plants etc etc it does seem to affect the energy. I might need reminding after the weekend but I have lots of ideas.

For now though I just thought I'd mention there's a gem show in Austin next weekend so if y'all wanna find some good stuff at reasonable prices, (prices vary booth to booth - magpie gems was very reasonably priced and as staffed by a very cute mohawked baby-butch who I'm sure would love to see y'all's cute selves at her booth. Also she was honest (she was at the Temple show last week) when I asked her about whether certain stones might have been dyed.

Anyway here's the info on the show and I'll try to remember to come back on here once back in Texas.

Austin Gem and Mineral Show "Gem Capers" ~ Austin, Texas
Oct 21-23, Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 10am-5pm.

Ebon, be sure you not only cleanse the crystals but yourself and the space where you are creating this grid.

For harmony in your home you could use a heart shaped grid alternating rose quartz and amethyst or you use a figure 8 shaped grid of rose quartz and clear quartz points with a large piece of rose quart (heart shape is good but not required) at the intersection.

Whenever i set up a grid i meditate on its purpose and set the stones as i feel led. Don't forget to honor the stones and charge your grid when finished.

I go to Western NC..to a gem mine there...I have to look at name of it...they have 5 gal buckets and it is awesome what all you will find there! I have emeralds, rubies (native to that area), quartz, sapphires, rose quartz, moonstone, smoky quartz, clear quartz, garnets, tiger eye, black onyx, tourmaline, amethyst (lots of it in varying shades) to name a few. You can buy the buckets and take with you..along with a screen box ($$). They will cut the stones. My wife & I went 5 months before she passed..and she found eleven stones we had cut. The biggest is a 6.72 ct. sapphire. She has 3 and 4 ct. emeralds...sadly she didn;t get to see them..they arrievd the day she passed away. I have a ruby she found and had cut for me a ring and an emerald I found and had cut for her b day stone.. I have mined in that area for about 30+ years. Cowee Valley....LOVE it. Arwen if you have never gone, do go..I have also mined up in Dahlonega (NW Ga) a few years. I prefer Cowee Valley best...:)I turn 50 in March. This is SO going on my birthday list! What a fabulous idea. :)

i'm absolutely dying to get my paws in the dirt up in Franklin...planned to this year but never got the chance...did get to Franklin though but only stopped in one of the shops there...perhaps next summer...i also want to go up on Chambers Mountain and look for kyanite...i've got a huge hunk from there but it was a gift from the owner of the rock shop over in Maggie Valley.

LOL...yes they do look rather "fairyish". Your observation of air and earth energies is interesting...i'm an air sign and from what i've learned in reading about this stone it's associated with air and earth signs (though not mine). i love the happiness i feel when holding or even just looking at mine and plan to meditate with it if/when it calls me...

Did a bit of Googling this morning and unearthed this info from the Colorado Gem and Mineral Company site:

http://trubynicole.com/crystalguideimages/Chrysanthemum.png

Chrysanthemum Stone - Hunan Province
Large pointed pattern. Chrysanthemum Stone Geologic History: In the Mesozoic Era, deposition of a thick strata of mud rich in organic materials including flora and fauna occurred at the bottom of a sea. Calcium Carbonate (Calcite) and abundant Strontium Sulphate (Celestite) precipitated in the ooze at the bottom. As the layers were compacted, these sediments were buried by continuous deposition of more mud. At these lower depths it allowed radial growth of celestite formations that remained as patterns in the solidified limestone. Today the material is found as boulders in a river and then broken open by workers and subsequently trimmed of excess rock and sometimes worked by artisans into ornate sculptures.

From Doreen Virtue's "Crystal Therapy" the healing properties and message of the Chrysanthemum Stone are:

"This is the stone of change. It expands compatibility, building unity through fun and innocence. In addition, it removes obstructions, and helps you start or continue moving toward your goals."

"Expect the unexpected with me. For as an elemental takes pleasure in the mischief of change, so do I. (Perhaps that's why fairies peek out, showing their wings in my blossoms.) Change without pain is possible, and I'm here to prove it. Visualize what you want, and I will work with you. Don't be surprised if I add a little gift. Laughter is joy spoken out loud. Remember the curiousity you felt as a child? Nothing was unquestionable or unchangeable - that is still the truth. You created the change. What will it be?"

Palmer Events Center
900 Barton Springs Road
Austin, TX 78704

i'm always making grids, layouts, medicine wheels, etc. as i feel led. Moving them to my crystal room will help keep my curious little kitty from making her own "adjustments" to them....though there have been a few times when her change actually improved the layout.

The Austin show sounds amazing! i would love to be able to go to something like this...but again, my wallet would require a chaperone...LOL

Couple of clarifications upon review of my earlier posts...

my smoky quartz is an elestial not a cathedral (brain hiccup)

The mine owned by the family of my ex's ex was Mason's Ruby Mine...i've got several rather large rubies, garnets and sapphires from there. Since i live in NC i am rather partial to native specimens.

Does anyone also work with sacred soil/sand? i especially treasure the soil given to me from Canyon de Chelly along with soil and rocks from the Grand Canyon...

I do work with soil and sand. I gather soil from cemetaries that I go to, and, use it when I am working in haunted buildings. I have also used the soil in rituals that require working with the earth. Such as having a pot of soil in the centre of the altar to call in the earth energies. For some rituals, I bury objects in my pot of soil to represent hiden or buried aspects of spirit or self.

The sand I use for water rituals and in some of my ceremonies. I use sand more often for ceremonies than rituals. I also use sand in my entry way. My grandmother taught me that it had the property of water and could therefore clean anything out of the "air" so to speak. Like washing the feet of your guests.

i haven't tried working with cemetery soil and not certain i want to. Whenever i visit most cemeteries i am bombarded by souls seeking acknowledgment....mausoleums are the worst for me...

It never occurred to me to put sand across my doorways...i have salt there now and on my windowsills.

Id stick with the salt,,,Ive got a very special black lava sea salt from hawaii ,,,,,,,with the undertsanding that everyone has their own way of doing things ,,, and each way is right for them according to their intents and purposes

Hi Trey, Thanks for asking...

Some of the techniques I use are similar. I am first generation Canadian, my family moved from the Netherlands, but we trace our lineage to the Saami peoples. Most of what I practice is Northern European and Saami. As one can only expect, there are similarities in most practices and traditions. You would think there was a collective unconscioius or something silly like that!! :canadian:

So, does anyone have good ideas for what one could use rutilated quartz for?

When I was cleaning stuff yesterday I found a set of 'throwing stones' my ex made for herself. I don't want them. My first inclination was to toss them, then I thought about sending them back to her. She has not missed them, or asked about them.... thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.

You could cleanse them, then tie thread around them and hang them in the windows?

Cleanse them and use in floating candle displays?

The only Gemstones I use are NZ Jade and Pearl...sorry, I can't be more help.

We must have been on the same page. I am on her side of the city Sunday, so I thought I would just put them in her mailbox and be done with it.

When I first realized what they were, and that they were not mine, I felt this overwhelming desire to throw them away. But, they were made in a sacred manner for doing sacred work... I just could not be that disrespectful to the spiritual energy put into them. I think my desire to throw them away was/is tied to my own emotional baggage, and not to anything regarding the stones themselves.

Excellent idea Trey...you don't need the karma of holding onto something you don't really want...

Don't forget to cleanse yourself and your home after you send them back...

I know what it is like to have stones call to you.At times have had that happen so would buy the stone thinking the angels are telling me I should use it instead turns out no I was only to be the delivery person and give it to another. I have Moldavite ring that I love wearing and at times when meditating will place it on my forhead and go into a deeper meditation. Also find myself drawn to Labradorite have 2 rings made of that.Friends jokingly call me a stonehead in a good way that is.Grin

That is me and quartz, I get them... and then give them all away.

Stonehead... that's funny.

Labradorite is very beautiful. I like that it is a Canadian mineral too.

My favorites are amber, jet, lapis, chrysocolla and obsidian. And white shells, I am gifted with white shells all the time. I have a shelf in my healing room dedictated those wonderful gifts.
