I know its kind of early but with Thanksgiving right around the corner it left me thinking of what I truly want for Christmas and thought it would be nice to have a place for us all to share our Christmas Wish List :)

I will start :

Every year I dont really wish for something materialistic wise. I actually know I can get it for myself if and when I truly need it lol So, for years now I have adapted helping others less fortunate than me. I will be taking toys, and canned food to the Salvation Army and dropping them off. I want to help children and families who are less fortuante than me.

My wish is that everyone who is without has love, food, warmth, and shelter. Not only for the holidays but in the coming year(s) :)

I give to everyone in need all year long - it's my way of trying to help as much as I can.

This year I want something materialistic......

I hope that my children are happy. That I can pull together enough for a Christmas that they are accustomed to... Its gonna be tight! But, I am hoping I can do it.

I don't know yet but will be back when I figure it out.

Fall 2009 I was in so much emo pain and confusion I thought I would surely die from it ... and a couple of times, wished I would. Then it finally let up around the holidays. I had the best holidays last year in my entire 53 years. (I was 53 then - 54 now.) Incredible how that worked out.

I am thinking there is no way I can 1up all the happiness I felt 2009 holiday season ... but sure going to try and stay open to receiving it should it come around.

:byebye: for now.

This is so true. When I first divorced and had to "share" my son with his father over part of the holidays, I was incredibly depressed. The first year, I wallowed and it was awful. The second, and subsequent years, I went and volunteered at the mission. I'd spend 2 days baking pies (which I love to do anyway), and would load up the car with them. The first time I walked in holding 4 pies on a tray, the faces of the homeless men there just lit up. When I said I had 20 more in the car that needed carrying in, I thought they were gonna explode. :) I felt so good that I forgot to feel bad.

That's something I haven't had much of during the past few Christmas seasons; especially with Mom's fight with cancer and my battle to juggle two households and a killer job.

I think it'll work out well for me. The apartment that I live in has REALLY cheap laminate flooring and it always looks like shit no matter what I do with it. It's cloudy as though it's got, like, a residue on it (it had that when I moved in) and I've tried a dozen different products to clean it that were specifically for laminate and NOTHING takes away that cloudy residue look.

I have found that if I wash by hand and dry the floors as I wash them that it improves things - but that is not how I am interested in spending my time. I get the feeling that the Shark will be a step up from mopping, although probably a step down from hand-washing.

Exactly. I have a lot of laminate flooring. It is perfect for it. I use regular tap water. Flooring I would guess to be mid-grade and has never looked cloudy. Let me know how you make out (seriously!).

I'll keep you posted. It's actually on sale this week at Canadian Tire so I might go and pick it up as an early giftmas gift to myself. :)

So you use tap water and no product? My mother uses a tiny bit of vinegar. Do you think I should try it both ways?

And how the hell are you doing?

Yes, just tap water, but I understand that a lot of people use vinegar/water for cleaning. Before I use it I always vacuum the dust up first.

I am curious as to why there continues to be some sort of residue on your floor. Could the flooring have been ruined by a product someone used on the floor? If so, then I'm not sure it matters what you use (like changing to steam) making a difference. Doesn't Just G put floors in for a living...maybe you need to take a pic and send it to someone/bring it into a store....you said you have tried a lot of products. I mean, what could explain the cloudiness?

ETA: I am doing ok....I will PM you.

I'm thinking that since if I handwash and dry the floors they look passable, they're probably not completely ruined. I'm not super invested in how they look, I guess - this is just a rental and one day the floors will be someone else's problem. It's just a little embarrassing for me that they look kinda dirty all the time even when they're not.

EVERYBODY - WE WILL NOW STOP DERAILING THIS THREAD TO TALK ABOUT MY FLOORS! I PROMISE! <3

Yes, makes sense. I would try it without the vinegar first, and would use distilled or purified water, just to keep the water as "pure" as possible (since you don't really know what it is in the products that is creating the cloudiness)

And yes we will stop derailing.

And yes to my gf (who may come across this at some point), I am aware that I do nothing now and you are awesome and the one who always does the floors, but it is not like I have no memory of it! lol

I was thinking about it and I came up with a X-mas gift idea.
(Although I am sure blackboot will be sad that my gift idea has nothing to do with jewelry)

I would like a 15 minute phone conversation with Dr. Ben Barres.
Ok, I know the guy is super busy so I would settle for an email.

If you are reading this, Dr. Barres... MAKE MY CHRISTMAS!!

But seriously-- I have some questions regarding your July 2006 Nature article and how I can use it in my own work. Elementary questions, but it sure would be nice to get your take on it. :)

I get the feeling that the Shark will be a step up from mopping, although probably a step down from hand-washing.I have deep laminate in the kitchen and the Shark just can't get in there and clean well. I wish I had not bought mine. Thinking about returning it. It is not worth what I paid for it.

I would like a new queen sized bed with memory foam pillow top. And satin sheets and matching comforter. It would be awesome to sleep (or whatever ;) ) on a bed like that. Cats would like it too.

I just love spending time with my kids and their families; several little ones which makes it so much fun.

This year I will be giving all the children in my family some heirloom jewelry; something I had planned on leaving them in my will anyway. But why wait; let them enjoy it now. One piece I am very excited to give my granddaughter is an 18k yellow gold amyethist ring with several tiny diamonds. Her mother bought it for me for Mother's Day when she was 16. She saved for months from her first job. I think the girl will love it.

My oldest grandson expressed a wish to have a diamond engagement ring of mine; he said (when he was nine) he would love to give it to his future wife one day. I am going to see if he will have it mounted into a stud for now.

My oldest daughter is getting a strand of very nice pearls that she wore to her first prom with her husband when they were 15 and 16.

My other daughter will get the platinum ring with baguette diamonds (circa 1920) that belonged to my mother and her mother before that. My girl wore this ring as something borrowed for her wedding. Things like this with memories....Crossing fingers they love these!

And, I'd like to be able to send her one of those snuggly warm thingys that are cocoon-like because she is cold all the time. She could get into it and watch her daily reruns of Judge Judy while falling into her daily nap :lol2: I can't find this item cause I don't know what it is called :(

I would love it if Bet got her floor problem fixed before Heroine comes swooping into this thread. And Transman was delivered a family, sans gift wrap :tease: It would be nice to explore Miss Diva's relative family offer, too :giggle:

Terry, do you mean a Snuggie (http://www.mysnuggiestore.com/?tag=im|sm|go|tm&a_aid=011&a_bid=bc305a78&chan=G&data1=TM)? We have them; they're nice but on the whole I prefer great big plush bathrobes. Snuggies don't close in the back, and when you get up to walk, you can trip over the front hem if you're not careful. But they are good at keeping your shoulders and arms warm, much better than an ordinary blanket.

This one is tough....especially since I just spent the last few months giving stuff away by the carful. I don't want to re-clutter my life. The things I really do want...new solar heat panels for the pool, and nice patio furniture so we can eat dinner out there....are a bit big for a Christmas stocking! :giggle:

Sooooo.....I love nice scented candles....and I'd really like us all to decorate Christmas cookies together....the ones you cut out with cookie cutters and are shaped like stockings and stars and wreaths and such. :)

honey i just wanted to say "great job" on the subtleness...lol...i am all for the cookie idea...make extra bc u know i gotta taste some to make sure they are edible enough for others :)

as for me....i already got my present when her and the rooster moved here--though its been rough it has all been worth it.

Yo, bud, I think your girl plans on your being there! :sunglass:

Your friendly neighborhood helping the butches hear what their femmes are trying to tell them so all remains well in the world brother,

That would be so nice. :) But then I'd be tempted to buy you circus peanuts for your stocking.

Eh, it's okay. Holidays are designed for a little bit of indulgence.

I'd like to see my sister once more. It is difficult right now to get a plane ticket that isn't outrageous. Even January or February would do. She just needs to hang on til I get there.

I'd like a pair of vintage grey flannel trousers for myself. A Christmas tree cause I love the smell. And, while I'm being greedy, a chance to stop at Wizarding World on the way back from Switzerland (where my sister lives) because I love Harry Potter, and to hold a certain girl in my arms.

That is all :rubberducky:

I think Bit is right; it's the Snuggie you're looking for. The good news is, is that they are EVERYWHERE this time of year, in all colors and designs.

I guess I have to go to the material things...

I would love a new laptop! My pink lady crashed and I lost everything....it all had to be re-added including a damn wireless adapter. She is on her last leg...

but...this just isnt going to happen...

so what is realistic, I would love new flannel sheets, more cookie sheets, and gift certificates to Khols so I can take advantage of after holiday sales. My clothes still dont fit! Yay!

One Christmas season I visited Boston and Vermont. When in Vermont I stayed in a hotel surrounded by pine trees, had a fire burning fireplace and the mountains were covered in snow while I could see the vividly shining stars above.

I looked out the window of the room drinking a hot cup of cider. All was well. So many years ago, and in that moment I felt peace, contentment and gratitude. I want a moment of that again with the smells of the season reminding me, life is good.

For Christmas I would like the US Immigration centre to open their eyes and realise that it is not only a man and a woman who love each other. That it takes many different people to make up this big world of ours. I want them to understand that there are same sex couples and how there archaic rules are forcing there own citizens to leave each and every day. I am not even asking them to make marriage legal or I want is for them to acknowledge a same sex relationship ie. defacto.. and I want them to change there immigration laws so that I and many hundreds more people can come home and be with the people we long to be with at this time of year.

For Christmas, I wish my brother would get his head out of his :boxers: and quit screwing around on his wife, and leaving his little children wondering why had Daddy stopped participating as a family unit. I wish he'd get his act together and remember that he wanted those two little ones enough to adopt them, so he has an obligation that he signed up for, voluntarily.

Next week, my Dad, my son and I are going to make sure that my sister-in-law and my niece and nephew have a nice Thanksgiving, since it seems my brother intends to spend the holiday with one of his...well, I can't say that kind of word here, but it rhymes with roars.

And he wonders why no one in the family tries to talk to him anymore.

What I really, really want is the next part of Rosetta Stone Italian program. Finally, something that I have been able to use to bring Italian back to me!

Like so many immigrant families that were part of the 1920's influx into the US, my grandparents and my parents would not allow us to respond to them in Italian- had to speak English- so that they learned it. So, even though I have a history with many speaking other languages around me (one Grandpa spoke 5 languages), it never settled in well. Even with taking Spanish in school (both Latin rooted languages). I suck! When in Mexico, I have always had some looks telling me my Spanish stinks and the same from other family members that have visited from Italy.

What is very strange is that I have had dreams throughout my life where people are always speaking Italian.

Anyway- this program plus handy-dandy online translators is helping me get where I want to go! Have no talent for languages at all.

I want what i can't have. My dad and brother back. I know i'm not alone missing a loved one this time of year. It's hard...hugz to those that feel what i'm feeling.

So, I just want us all to rejoice in life and living and remember the spirit of Christmas.....with peace and love.

Once you go MP3/Ipod, you can't go back.

I love mine. Seriously, I'd cut someone if they messed with it.

On a more serious note, big hugs to you.

This is the best and worst season, simultaneously, and a huge emotional roller coaster. Homesickness and missing folks and all the little hurts we feel is amplified by the glitter of the season and all that it entails.

Everytime i get on a plane i see someone with one and i think...why the heck don't i break down and get one and learn how to use it. So, this year is the year!!! lol.

Hugz back and i agree with you. bittersweet memories pain joy happiness and a deep ache that is the size of texas in my stomach all rolled into one.

Tis the season.

I'm getting my granddaughter in a few days! an amazing gift for me. Her mother doesnt understand why I busted my ass so i could take 10 days off to help her everyday, cook and clean. I don't think she understands just how grateful I am.

BUT there's a few things I really want too:

one of those foot baths that massage and keep the water hot a long time

a bidet that has a hot water tank

to see my sweet boi

Want for the people who are struggling or experiencing difficulties to have an easier go of it.

Spend time with a woman I adore but that is not quite feasible at this particular moment.

Realistically, I cannot think of a thing I need or really want ... hmm, maybe one of those little wireless battery operated toy trucks. Yes, those are always fun!

So ... I am settling for 4 new tires on my truck. :)

Socks!!! Several pair of warm, thick, cottony socks of every color in the rainbow; boot socks would be great. I also would love to have a battery operated throw warmer. And another set of Egyptian cotten sheets; plain white. And a long tunic length cardigan either maroon or dark grey. And a lifetime supply of Cafe Bustello!

My oven works well enough to bake bread now; I'd like for it to work well enough to bake cookies!

But what I want more than anything else is for Lady's cataracts to go away. It's too late; she went from almost-nothing-there to blind-from-big-white-cataracts in only a month. It's the diabetes. *sigh* I know that dogs function okay when they're blind, but I sure wish she could see again.

The only things I'd like is for R to get better and a job for myself

Oh and if I could add one more thing, a place of my own that would accept my kitties

As I read this back to myself, a year later...I received all of the above :)
What a difference a year makes as I trudge onward and upward

This year, all I want is to keep that roof over our heads, food in our bellies and good health
I'm thankful to have that job, but would really like going back to work in the profession I worked in for 15 years or a job that paid me more
I would like to not struggle as much financially, but understand there is a reason for everything
As long as I wake and breathe, I'll manage to take care of my rescues and me

Actually, I have received the two "gifts" that I have thought about. The first is that my niece does not have advanced ovarian cancer and she has a great prognosis for an otherwise "hidden" cancer that most do not get great results about. She will recover from surgery and treatment well.

The other is that I have had some good results too in pain management. I am really glad I switched specialists because I was not feeling heard.

I spend the weekend before Christmas Day with family at our ranch because we are just spread out regionally. We bring food and exchange one gift via a previous drawing with a limit on spending. A good gift that day would be that my brother-in-law has a good day (Alzheimer's) and recognizes at least his grandchildren. I would be very thankful for that. And my sister not being stressed as a caregiver for him.

On christmas Day, I will again take my dog to the local nursing home for a visit with residents. He rawked on Thanksgiving! For dinner, I will be with a Jewish friend and see a movie. Of course, dinner will be Chinese take out!

So, I got gifts already!

Dear Père Noël,

I would very much like a spinning wheel and a floor loom for Christmas! Pretty please! I am leaving some lemon scented madeleines and a glass of port under the tree for you, and some fresh carrots for all the reindeer!

A nice little girl named Elle*

Dear Père Noël,

Merci for the loom and the spinning wheel, even if the loom took ten more months to arrive! This year I very much would like a trip to France for the summer, and a workshop week at SOAR next fall.
You ate the madeleines and drank the port, and the reindeer ate the carrots, so I will leave those again for you, with a little box of madeleines to go for Madame Noël.

Love from Elle*, still a nice little girl

To have Christmas Dinner with Gramma D and to see her in good health and great spirits. I miss my Christmas dinners with her....

To spend Christmas with my nieces and my son's birthday with him... to repeat the happy times I had with my son. I wish for this Christmas for my nieces to be much more happy than it was last year when they suffered a serious, heartbreaking loss. I wish to see their smiles and feel their bear hugs.

Good health and happiness for all my friends and family, and improved health for myself.

my stocking to contain an apple and an orange, in honor of my great gramma and her traditions.

Last year I wanted a blow job and didn't get it lol.

This year all I really want is to see the people I love be happy and healthy. Sure, some tools and a mig welder would be nice, but really - material things don't make me happy. I am appalled at all the reports I see of people being violent and pepper spraying each other at black friday events. It's really disgusting. Christmas needs to not be so much of a retail event and be more of a holiday of the heart. :stillheart:
