The Winter Ball was fabulous. 220 butch/femme folks in all our finery and diversity. There were out-of-towners, some first time ButchFemmeSocials attendees as well as familiar faces. Thanks to all you for helping create community.
We also raised $435 in cash and food gift cards (Safeway, Trader Joes's, etc) for the Meals for Reals folks. This is double what we raised last year!!! Meals for Reals provides food gift cards to lesbians in Alameda County who don't qualify for food stamps or their food stamps have timed out. Many many thanks to those who donated in this crappy economy. You are helping lots of b/f folks and other lesbians with your generosity.
And DJ Luna rocked the house with an amazing variety of music with sets of salsa to country western to waltz to hip hop.
And last but certainly not least.... many thanks to all the volunteers......we really truly could not do this without you.

Greyson and I had the best time. It was very special for us as this dance was where we first met. I loved dancing with Greyson and reminiscing about that evening.
I really enjoyed meeting some of the folks I have interacted with here in real time. Our friends we invited from Sacramento enjoyed it as well.
Thank you Rope and Toughy for hosting the party. It is a wonderful contibution to our community.

This is your opportunity to join COLAGE's Board of Directors during a very exciting time for the organization! In the second year of implementing our new strategic plan and in the midst of celebrating our 20th anniversary, COLAGE is looking for dynamic, passionate and active leaders to join the Board of Directors and work with the organization to take it to the next level of its development and impact.
COLAGE is the only national, youth-driven network that connects people with a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ) parent to a community of peers. Growing up knowing that our families are different can make a kid feel confused or conflicted. By connecting with others who share our experience, COLAGE helps us come to the realization that our difference is our strength. With this realization, we become leaders and advocates for the policies that matter most to our families. Based in San Francisco, COLAGE offers an integrated array of local, regional and national programs. With over 10,000 member contacts, a network of chapters across the U.S, and 20 years of expertise in youth empowerment and LGBTQ family matters, COLAGE represents and organizes the millions of people who have one or more LGBTQ parents and families.

Hammer and Nails in San Francisco

Modern Times Bookstore
888 Valencia Street
San Francisco, CA
See map: Google Maps
Hammer and Nails brings together Yukon storyteller Ivan Coyote and new Orleans comic Jessica Halem for a north/south butch/femme aural exploration of words and wit.
Cost: $15.00
Jessica Halem is a Fool’s Fool. Called “Brave and Bawdy” by Time Out Chicago and “Righteous and Chipper” by the Times-Picayune, Jessica was raised by hippie Jewish artists from the East Coast which was anything but normal – or easy – in small-town Ohio, but did help to foster this very funny “on-your-face” comic who puts her queer spin on everything from Sudafed to Feminism to Glory Holes.
www.jessicahalem.com
Ivan Coyote was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. An award-winning author of six collections of short stories, one novel, three CD’s, four short films and a renowned performer, Ivan’s first love is live storytelling, and over the last seventeen years she has become an audience favourite at music, poetry, spoken word and writer's festivals from Anchorage to Amsterdam. The Globe and Mail called Ivan "a natural-born storyteller" and Ottawa X Press said "Coyote is to CanLit what k.d. lang is to country music: a beautifully odd fixture."

"La Angry Xicana?!" weaves together critiques on Hollywood, the U.S. corporate media, purported lesbian gang epidemics, The L Word, conservative politics, health issues, religious icons, post-welfare life, and the semi-sacred courtship that happens only among queer womyn of color. As in all of her works, the show commits to positioning lesbian Xicana/Latinas as the ideal viewership and operates from queer/feminist/indigenous perspectives. Using comedy as a weapon of choice, the show examines possible sources of contemporary and historical anger among womyn of color. (Oh, and people, she's really not angry, she's just getting even!)

Location: S.F. Eagle Tavern cuz they are nice to US
Street: 398-12th Street @ Harrison

That's right! This is a "Plan B" Butch-Femme Social.
This was such a successful party last year, we've brought it back!
Plan A: Meet people on BART, at work, at a wedding, at the dyke
march, at your high school reunion, on the street, cruising at A
Different Light, walking the dog, at the Folsom or Castro Street
Fairs, etc.
This, however, is PLAN B. Plan B is bring single/available people to a
Butch-Femme Social and see what happens. This can be...
* Your ex with whom you are still friends
* A date that you really thought was hot, but you're just friends no matter how hard you try
* A one-night-stand
* That one dyke at work who never goes out
* Your friend that says that she wants a girlfriend
* The one single person in your circle of married folks
* A quirky alone that isn't afraid to come to a singles event
* Someone that just isn't your type, etc.
Invite 'em! Bring 'em!
No pressure, no games, just show up.
ALSO, it's our February birthday party for Joan, Liza, Captain & Octavia.
If you've never been to a production by Butta---get your dance shoes on for this club AND it will benefit Queer Women of Color Film Festival ! EVERYONE welcome, wheelchair accessible.

Yup- it is going to be a Lunch with our Diva Day!! 11:30 am on 7/10 Sunday at the Fat Apples in El Cerrito on Fairmount (casual, moderately priced good food and easy parking and freeway acess to I-80/580). Going to have a great time!
It would help if people that are going to join in let me know- I am going early to get a table and a fairly accurate count would help.

My wife and I have talked about camping in the area so that I can see some of the work she's been doing. We don't spend many workdays together, so this is a way we can do that as well.
Anyway... We may do it so we cover the 10th and can attend the Diva get-together. If we do, I'll be more than happy to give you a ride.
Once I figure everything out and confirm with the missus, I will let you know.

Heck, the day before is OK- I just want to have a fairly close count when i go over to get the table (s). This place is pretty accommodating. They don't take reservations, but I have been there many times in groups that just walk in and they just move things around and get it done. I will give them at least a 30 minute lead-up.
This is exciting- Margo is also coming from Sacramento. Oh, and they have good things for vegetarians or vegans as well as meat dishes. And the pies.... :)!

It looks like about 12 for luch on Sunday, July 10th at Fat Apples in El Cerrito to see Diva on her trip to CA. But another "sort of" count is a good idea.
I am going over to Fat Apples tomorrow to let them know we are coming in Sunday- at about 11:30. Casual place.
So, if you plan on attending, let me know. Yanno... it is beautiful in the Bay Area this time of year and BART can take you over to SF in a snap- a station is only a few blocks from where we are having lunch.
If you are coming for sure- let me know. But, this doesn't mean you can't do a last minute change either way- not a structured "reservation." Just letting them know we are a "group." And, Oh, what a group!!!
This will be fun!!

You bet!! Way KEWL! Hope you make as well as Linus. If you are taking the Aloha out and about and want to put her in my drive-way and use electric for the night- you are welcome too.
I have a spare bedroom, but no bed in it!! I usually just set up the Xplorer for guests. Works well- they (and me) have privacy and a bathroom! have a fenced yard for critters.
Actually, anyone that is coming for lunch and wants to hang around the Bay Area can stay in my RV- no problem with hooking it up in front of the house or in the drive-way. LOL, can have a little RV park going!
Just thinking some folks might want to take in the City on a budget- and I am close to BART which makes going over to SF less expensive and a whole lot easier. Even I will do anything not to drive into SF! All the way to the Castro and back! I'm usually just put'n around my yard and house on the weekends and have had qiute a few people use my place to go take in SF and catch some sleep before going off on vacations/camping, etc.
Looks like the "certains") are:
Me, (maybe a local friend or 2), Diva, Greyson, Julie, Sabra, Pam, Verity, Turtle, Atomiczombie, Day, Flamez, Margo, Jaye. hope I am not missing anyone. Toughy might stop in to say Hi. Linus, Thinker 7 amy are possibles.
Hope I have everyone.... and if anyone needs the address of the resturant, let me know.

It really feels good to see how this has rolled into a pretty good little gathering of so many people that keep in touch as well as new folks that contribute so much. Since I first joined this community- through thick and thin, I have always recognized deep connections across it. I am proud to be a B-Fer and .......
Diva, you are deeply loved and a big part of the glue that keeps this community together! You have been this for many years and are appreciated to the max!
AtLast, you are doing a GREAT job of coordinating this event. Maybe it's time to relax now and let it all fall into place.
Thank you for all of your effort on this!!

You are so welcome! Turned out great!!! I was so glad to meet you both!-- Hey, Atomic, I am kind of a homebody, so I hear ya'!
LOL, just finished writing this note:
The Micro-ReUnion Have Lunch with Diva time today was fantastic! It was great to see people and meet a few new folks. There was lots of hugging, laughing, gabbing, and eating in all of our glorious diversity!! The Diva was as beautiful and warm as ever- but of course, she brings us together!!!
The restaurant manager and the serving team told me we were a great group, really nice people and asked me to thank everyone for eating at Fat Apples, El Cerrito. I thought they were gracious and served us well. I hope everyone had a good meal. LOL, I did see a few “bakery” bags leaving with folks, so it looked like it all went well in that department. I was glad for the turn-out in terms of supporting a local business too, EC has been hit by the recession, too.
Just due to physical issues over the last year and ½/, I have not been as social/active- so I haven’t even seen the local community members much lately. So, this was special to me as well as being able to get together with Diva. I get kind of frustrated with my old body not working like it used to. And I need to stay in better contact. Thank you all for coming and you all stay safe and happy!! And Diva, I hope you have a wonderful time here in Northern California with your family and friends. Be very safe driving back home!
This reminded me of my first B-F “event” back in ‘08 in Oakland when I met members in person. Diva was fluttering about with that beautiful smile and heart sharing time with us all (even with her “arrest“). I have always felt such kindness from her and the people that I met then. It was really neat to see people get together that have been long time community members too- we get busy and live all over the place, yet so many of us take the time to meet and catch up when we can throw something like this together.
See, Diva, we way love you!!! You bring us together time and time, again!!!
It appears that there is a LGBT SF Giants Day in August- I am going to look it up- Say, Hey, maybe some of you are baseball fanatics too and would like to go to that game. I’ll get the scoop- thanks, Grayson for alerting me to this! And butch Voices is coming to Oakland, again- there is a thread about this. Maybe we will see each other, again!!
My damn camera batteries pooped out on me even though I charged them (must be just dead), I only have a couple of pics that TD took for me (thanks, TD). But other people took some- hope you all post them!
May I just say that You blew my mind, all Y'all!!!!!! I thought there was going to be around 14 or 15 there....and when I got there, Susan told me about 25 or 30 and I was so blown away!
But the best part ~ and please forgive my tardiness! ~ was walking in and seeing Your beautiful faces, smiling up at me and welcoming me in! WOW. Just wow.
You touched my heart and I am so grateful You took time out to visit......I am sorry I didn't get to speak to each one of You for an HOUR each! That would be heaven to me! But I knew You were there and knew that You cared. My heart overflows with gratitude....I just want You to know how much You mean to me!
:heartbeat:
I want to say a public "Thank You" to Susan for turning this one-on-one lunch into an extravaganza!!!!!!! What a wonderful job You did in organizing this gathering!
Now.......You KNOW, right, that I'll be having my 5th Annual Pre~Thanksgiving Gathering at Chez Diva in Austin, Texas on the weeked of November 11-13........this is Your invitation to attend! It's always a lovely weekend of laughter, good food and always for a good cause.....we will be collecting toys for underprivileged children in connection with the APD this year!
Drop me a line by PM if You would like to attend!
Thank You again for this marvelous day, which, I dare say, will be the best day of my "Tour"! Many hugs and squishes!!!!!!

The second jolt felt stronger to me- but hey, I am right on the fremont Fault and just a couple of miles from the Berkeley epicenter. I took all the pics/glass down in my bedroom (reinforcing better). Frankly, I take being prepared for quakes very seriously. We have a neighborhood org set up to assist elderly and disabled neighbors with turning off gas lines, etc. and ER family contacts, etc. Anyone living in the Bay Area in Ca that doesn't have a plan and supplies for quakes is an idiot and usually the people that screw up effective ways to be safer and aid people that are more vulnerable when these kinds of things happen (the actual "big ones"). Social democracy in action.

The S.F. LGBT Center is planning a memorial for Mike McLeod sometime mid-February. They will let me know the exact date in a couple of days.
Mike worked as the Facilities Manager there for many years. If you would like to make a donation to the Center in Mike's name, go to their website to do so at www.sfcenter.org, any amount is welcome. OR mail a donation.
The San Francisco LGBT Center is located at 1800 Market Street, S.F., CA 94102
Parking is hellish in this neighborhood, I highly recommend public transportation. Nearest BART station is Civic Center and you can either wak the four blocks OR take MUNI from there one stop up.

Letters to a Porn Star: Nina Hartley Fan Mail Gallery Reception
Letters to a Porn Star: Nina Hartley Fan Mail
Gallery
February 1- March 18th
Reception: Friday, February 1st, 7-10 pm
Short talk at 8pm with Ingrid Olson, CSC Research Fellow whose curatorial project in the CSC Nina Hartley Collection inspired this show
The Center for Sex and Culture gallery is proud to present Letters to a Porn Star: Nina Hartley Fan Mail. These letters, from our archive, address diverse concerns and interests from requests for membership information on Hartley’s fan club, to commentary on her activism against censorship and questions seeking advice on sexual health. Spanning the amusing, the downright sexy and the touchingly serious, these letters are a fascinating read. The letters are presented along with drawings and gifts from her fans.
Nina Hartley’s first adult entertainment film, Educating Nina, was shot in 1984. She has featured in over 650 first-run adult films, and has become one of the most enduring and recognizable performers in the industry. She has won the most AVN awards of any star in history and was the first working porn actress to crossover to “real acting” with a part in Boogie Nights. Hartley has created many sexual education videos as director, producer and sex educator. She has been a vocal anti-censorship activist fighting for pornography’s right to exist and is on the board-of-directors at Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance.
Please join us for this glimpse in to the impact she has had on people and the fascinating results of her inevitable role as a screen on to which a wide variety of individuals project their sexual thoughts and their often unique understanding of sexuality.

It's the MUNI (not BART) Van Ness station that is about 4-5 blocks walk. You can take BART to Civic Center and go upstairs to Market St and catch the outbound/Castro F-Line and it drops you off about a half a block away.
