View Full Version : M&M's

Some days you have serious conversations. Somedays they are downright silly.

Todays incredibly boring Packers/Bears games spawned a convo about how best to eat M&M's.

It seems colors are meaningless to some who just eat the lil buggers without any thought to which colors they are popping in their mouths.

Some like to sort out the colors, putting their favorite colors to one side to eat last.

Some refuse to eat certain colors for a variety of odd reasons.

Some like to eat certain colors in pairs.

Some weirdo's, like me, separate all the colors into piles, eating from one pile at a time, with my favorite colors red and blue left to savor at the end.

Anyone else have M&M preferences?

I dump the package of m&ms on the table and separate them into same-color piles. From there, I sort them into piles that contain one of each color available. I eat the piles that don't have all colors represented first. From there, I eat them by pile...one pile at a time and one m&m at a time. I contemplate the different color combinations I can create.

All the colors taste the same to me, but I really miss the light brown m&ms. I liked the color scheme before they added blue. The holiday themed bags are not right. But I do like to see what shapes they throw on the holiday m&ms. I think the bunny butt in the Easter/spring mix is cute. hehe.

So I'm a little OCD about eating m&ms.

HA! Great tshirt Dom!!!!!

With the beginning of every football season I eat my M&M's in a very specific order. The first color to be eaten is always green, then brown, yellow, red, blue and finally orange. See my team's colors are orange and white. Now I know that how I eat my M&M's won't help them win, it's more of an honor thing. BUT - the first year I did this UT won the national championship and the Lady Vols basketball team won a national championship - so I don't dare eat an orange first!

Donating my M&Ms here because I don't eat milk chocolate, nor food coloring. Not even sure how I ended up with these in the first place.

Much like Cara, i separate them all into color piles first off. Then, i make sure each pile has the same number (which means i eat the extras).

i don't eat them in any certain order, but my last 2 are always yellow & orange.

(and i personally don't like the blue, why mess up perfection??)

I'm not a purist.....I don't separate them.....but I DO eat the green ones first (when I eat M&M's) because they are good for You......

I save the brown ones till the last....because.....well.....they're just not as fun to eat. I'm talkin' about the M&M's now, people.....

I eat the brown ones first. (I don't like them)
then I see how many there are of each color and I eat them fewest of each color to most of each color.

M&Ms...*shudder* Never a big fan; just the thought...:scared:

But for the lovers of these candies I am more than happy to abstain in order for more to be available for you...

Can answer this if I think of jelly beans which I spearate into colours, eating my favourite (purple/lavender) last.

I'm not really a big fan of M&Ms so I usually only eat the special colored holiday ones. In the last few months I have went through 2 bags of the pink breast cancer awareness ones though, just because they donate a portion to Susan G Komen. And I don't really have any special method for eating them, just 2 or 3 at a time.

I just showed this to my room mate Ben, because he always says I am nuts when I eat M&Ms.

I hereby state categorically that my behavior is NOT OCD because I only eat them this way when a flat surface is available. When munching M&Ms in a darkened theatre, or in a car, I can throw them down just as they come out of the bag.

BUT ... given a flat surface, this is what I do.
I dump them all out, sort them into separate piles for each color. Then I make a straight line for each color, longest line on top, shortest line on the bottom. Then I start eating the colors that have the longest lines (I do also count them, as my goal is to end up with a equal number of each color.) Once the numbers are even, I eat one of each color until they are gone.

Cara, I also miss the light brown ones. My SIL has been boycotting the blue ones since they replaced the light brown ones. She dumps all her M&Ms in a bowl. Whether or not she eats them in any particular order I don't know, but she WON'T eat the blue ones. Her kids are grateful for her refusal to eat them, and have spent lots of time thinking of reasons that she might want to stop eating various other colors as well.

I must say, we do sound like a bunch of nuts with all these vaious M&M eating strategies, LOL

I only eat the peanut M&Ms. In Canada we have Smarties, which are similar to plain M&Ms, and I prefer those.
If I'm eating M&Ms at home I pick out the red and blue ones and save them for last. The rest I sort into colours and then eat 1 of each colour until they are all gone.
At the movies I just dump them into my bag of popcorn. The rest of the time I just eat whichever one I pick out of the bag no matter the colour.

you know, I watch how people eat things, because I have this theory that I can imagine how they are at oral sex by the way they eat food. I even wrote an article once, about how candy can be used to help build oral skills. I read your posts and smiled. Now my turn...

I love randomness...I love to be suprised...I dont want ritual or order. I want to go with whatever I pull out of the bag. What comes next isnt what my focus is about when it comes to eating Ms. Oh no. My focus comes when its in my mouth. I put it in and let it sit in the center of my tongue until I can feel it get warm, when I can tell the hard shell start to get soft..

and I start to slowly move it, around, letting every area get a turn to soften, until all the shell is almost gone. Once you start, the process quickens because the heat that is generated quickly takes care of the M even on the spots where its not resting on the tongue..

the next step takes such patience...and self control...

the milk chocolate begins to melt and I put it on the end of my tongue and use my teeth to hold it against and I move it around, slowly licking against it, like a clit, sloughing off the warm goey milk chocolate, turning it around until all thats left is the little nut...which I spin and push against...until I flip and grind down with my back teeth...

I pause...then move on to my next divine taste...

I don't like M&Ms. By themselves...itself...theirselves???

IF I eat them, and that's a big if, it will be mixed in with Great Value's Mountain Mix trail mix.

The peanut ones are better. The peanut detracts from the crappy taste of them alone.

So, a serious question here

When I eat M&M's which is very rare, but have on occasion. No matter what color I eat, it all taste the same to me. Every color taste like the next.

Am I eating them wrong maybe? Maybe I don't have the distinct taste buds that are needed for M&M's or what?

I have never detected a different taste for each color. I thought the colors were just to make them visually appealing.

Do they really make coconut ones? I have seen the peanut, almond and pretzel ones.

Having been treated to a bag of mini M&M's, I find I do not have the requisite level of OCD to be compelled to sort them as I do the larger ones.

I find I like them very much for a reason I would not have thought of. You get a whole bunch of them in your hand at one time. I think from years of M&M eating I am conditioned that it takes "this many" to satisfy me. The minis are a lot smaller so the "this many" amount is reached quicker, thereby taking lots less to satisfy me - so the bag last LOTS longer, LOL. Try it and see if I am the only crazy one.

Kobi is correct. All M&Ms tastes exactly the same; the colors make them visually appealing.

The only wrong way to eat an M&M is to not eat them at all. You do not need special taste buds. :|

I can't believe I didn't see this thread before. I have a very specific protocol for eating M&M's. I like the peanut kind and I eat them according to color and size. I keep a Pringles can lid on my desk and shake a few out from a big bag. The colors must be eaten in this order, and from the smallest to the largest within each color.

Yellow
Orange
Red
Green
Blue
Brown

If I am eating from a single serving size bag, then I slit the bag along the side so I can see all of them and eat them in the proper order.

m&m's yesss! Peanuts pleasseee. I eat them differently every time, never really sort the colors. I will eat one at a time letting the chocolate melt in my mouth then eating the peanut or I'll take several bites out of one or I will just pop a few in my mouth and let them melt or crunch them.

Last night I just had some, the mini individual packs. I also like to have soda (Pepsi/Pepsi Max) while eating them to wash them down. Guess I love the sugar mix.

An ex gf of mine used to take out all the green ones and give them to me. :)

My boss likes to put hers in the microwave for a few seconds. She says it's like a tiny burst of chocolate when you bite into them. I have yet to try this for the fear of doing it wrong and making a mess in the microwave. I prefer peanut M&M's, eaten a few at a time not paying attention to color. :)

Ever been the M&M Store on the Strip in Vegas. Mesmerizing. All these clear plastic tubes filled with every color M under the sun. And they are dispensers with a little spigot at the bottom. You can fill a bag with your own color mix. But be careful. Before you know it you are hauling 20 lbs. on M's back home. This is what heaven looks like in my dreams.

OOOH! I have questions. Do they look back at you? Do they get nervous when you look at them? Do they try to wriggle out of your hand? Are the ones you haven't picked up yet able to see you eat their compatriots? Do they try to keep from making eye contact with you when you are trying to pick which one to eat next? Have you ever had the feeling that they were moving away from the others you were picking up to avoid being picked up themselves?

Thanks for any info you can give me

Ok... when I have the time and space (too much eating on the go), I like to separate all the colors. Then I'll eat one from each pile. If the distribution is severely skewed then I will either make patterns with them and eat in order of the pattern OR I'll determine how many I need to eat from each pile each time so that all piles are finished in the same round.

Orange pile is first, then tan which I separate from the brown. Green is usually last.

Yeah, I have issues!

OK

I am totally craving M&M's right now, but I have none. Could one of you slip me a few? Any color, or combination thereof will do.

For an M&M today, I will gladly repay you Tuesday!

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

My word, I didn't know the very thought of how a person eats a M & M's could make me so crazy! I am now going to go to Walmart and watch the adults that by M & M's and dream about how they eat M & M's :)

Oy ya just had to get this one going... Ahahahaaaaaaa :huhlaugh:

I separate them by color first. Whichever has the most of one color lines up at the top, the next highest files in line in front of them and so forth till I get to the least amount of one color...

example:
R R R R R R
G G G G G
Y Y Y Y Y
B B B B
O O O
B B B

I eat from the least column of all the colors and off them first, eventually working my way to the column that has one of every color... Yeh I know... pretty OCD... oops! There are worse things in life right? :koolaid:

OMG ! !!
My adorable sweet handsome, smart and considerate Son who just started working for the first time four weeks ago, brought me the first spontaneous gift of his life and guess what it is?

A 19.20 ounce bag of M&M's I had to hide it from itself or go in to sugar overload.

M & M Anyone?

Eating M&M's straight out of the bag tonight - no sorting. I need it for it's medicinal effects tonight, not for it's visual stimulation.

Hmm.. M&Ms are probably the only snack besides cans of mixed nuts that I actually DO have a routine for.

1: I only eat popcorn with no butter and no salt. I either mix my M&Ms in or I use a white cheddar powder.

2: I sort them out by colour, and then eat the odd numbers so that they all have the same amount. THEN I eat them one at a time, sucking on each one til it's just a chocolate taste. I start with the dark colours and work my way down to the light colours. I actually have to pay attention while I do this or I'll not suck on them as long, I'll wuss out and chew it.

3: I prefer the peanut, then almond, then plain, then dark chocolate. I saw someone said that there is a raspberry flavor, and now my wife will have a mission. Snacks are my weakness and since the wife is controlling my eats, I'll probably have to give up my nightly ice cream for a small bag.

I keep them in the fridge, takes them longer to melt.

lol, this is totally weird but when I eat M&Ms, I only open up a little corner of the bag so that I can't see inside and I try to psychically predict which color will come out next.

Also, if get two or more of the same color at once, it means I win - especially if I've predicted it;
[who is playing against me, I do not know] and the prize is good luck; and the more candies of the same color at once, the bigger the win and better the luck because, of course, the odds are against that happening and you know, lol, it's not at all ridiculous to think this way.

I have no idea how, why, or when this started; as I remember, I have just always done it. lol, so just how much am I showing my crazy here? :tease:

These are not a snack option anymore but when they were...

I ate them sorted by color ... The color with the least amount got eaten first. I also liked the chocolate on the peanut ones best but don't care for the nuts.., so I would suck all the chocolate off and throw away the peanuts....

No M&M's for me today.:crybaby:

I just wanted to tell all you weirdo M&M sorting folks that I think you are extremely cool (and also deranged.) I look forward to posts in the M&M thread almost more than any other. Much love to you all.

Once upon a time there lived a King.
The King had a beautiful daughter, The PRINCESS..
But there was a problem. Everything the princess touched would melt.

No matter what;
Metal,
Wood,

Stone,

Anything she touched would melt.

Because of this, men were afraid of her. Nobody would dare marry her.
The King despaired. What could he do to help his daughter?
He consulted his wizards and magicians. One wizard told the King, 'If your daughter touches one thing that does not melt in her hands, she will be cured.'
The King was overjoyed and came up with a plan.
The next day, he held a competition. Any man that could bring his daughter an object that would not melt would marry her and inherit the King's wealth...

THREE YOUNG PRINCES TOOK UP THE CHALLENGE.
The first brought a sword of the finest steel.
But alas, when the Princess touched it, it melted.
The prince went away sadly

The second prince brought diamonds.
He thought diamonds are the hardest substance in the world and would not melt. But alas, once the Princess touched them, they melted.
He too was sent away disappointed.

The third prince approached. He told the Princess,
'Put your hand in my pocket and feel what is in there.'
The Princess did as she was told, though she turned red .
She felt something hard. She held it in her hand.

And it did not melt!!!

The King was overjoyed. Everybody in the kingdom was overjoyed.
And the third Prince married the Princess and they both lived happily ever after.

Question: What was in the Prince's pants?

M&M's of course.
They melt in your mouth, not in your hand.
What were you thinking??

I WORRY ABOUT YOU SOMETIMES.

I want to go here! :tease:

I like to separate my M&Ms by color. Since I'm watching what I eat I only eat 200 calories of M&Ms at a time which is approximately 48 M&Ms. I line up 8 yellow, 8 orange, 8 red, 8 green, 8 blue, and 8 brown in that order. Then I eat them four at a time - two of one color and two of another color changing up the color combinations as I go. :)
