View Full Version : Super Bowl Sunday
Next Sunday Feb 6th 6:30 est on Fox.
So, who will you be rooting for?
Packers? Steelers?
Don't care as long as there is a party?

Despite being a Brit and thinking that American 'Football' is rugby with padding I'll be watching as much of the game as I can stay awake for - coverage won't start until nearly midnight. I'll be rooting for the Packers!
I've only seen one or two games this season sadly. Were both teams the best this year?

Of course, once my beloved Saints were knocked out, I had to switch my support, but in general, I choose to support the NFC teams over the AFC.

Personally, I just hope it's entertaining. It have to work on Super Bowl Sunday and have been told by the Conference organizers that I **MUST** finish by 5pm EDT. Of course, they aren't throwing a Super Bowl party for the attendees (silly, IMO, to not do so) but.. so I'll have to find a place in DisneyWorld to enjoy the game.

We're on the other side of Disney World so again, won't be a fun trek there and back.
I think I may just see if the hotel (the Contemporary) has the game there. I'd imagine so.. It's just annoying that the company didn't do a Superbowl Party like they did the year before.

My beloved Patriots arent playing so I really dont have a preference for who wins.

All I hear is Super Bowl, Super Bowl Super Bowl... As you can imagine since it is in our town... :)
Im ready for it to be over, and for life to get back to normal.
I hope Packers win only cause I cant stand Steelers... Rooting for the under dog as always... :)
I bought a few groceries to stay in while the festivities happen... My road has been blocked off most of the week...

I love football, since I first came to his country my father taught me and watched games with me, I fell in love with The Steelers, I love the violence, roughness, testosterone all over the air, hard hits, good food and cheering your team on.
I can't, this week I found out something I never knew, The Superbowl event brings in the worst of things.. It brings in hundreds sometimes even thousands, of underage children that are being raped, tortured, and pimped out..
It's one of the biggest human trafficking events in this country, little girls are being sold off like cattle to be raped, abused and tortured. I ask all of you to please think about boycotting this event, think of our herstory, these children who while we eat and drink are being raped.
I love football, but not enough to ignore the sick things being done during this event.

The winning team picks who makes the ring. The design is supposed to tell the story of the superbowl. They make about 150 pf em and they cost about 5000 dollars a piece. What a fucking waste of money!!!

I am curious if anybody from this thread has read this and is going to participate in boycotting the superbowl? The reason I ask is because I see many of the people posting in here are supposedly all about womens rights. Some of you are the first in line when there is a damsel in distress so what is keeping my fellow community members from acknowledging this female travesty?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond!!!

I don't know Grant! Spending $5,000 on a ring doesn't seem like a hefty price, when people are spending LESS on little boys and girls for sex! I mean seriously - This is the Super Bowl.
For some reason, 2011 is the year to expose Sex Trafficking in the United States and most importantly, how the Super Bowl in Texas plays a huge role in adding to this atrocity.
Unlike Snow and Grant - I could give a fuck about football. I think the game is repulsive, so in reality I am not missing out on anything by not watching it. I do not go to Super Bowl parties. Not missing out on a thing. What is shocking to me about all of this... That we as a community are not discussing this. That we as a community, knowing what is going on -- all we can say is...
GO PACKERS GO!
I sat my youngest son down with his friends -- Age group 19 -20 - The age where the testosterone is flowing strong. I had them watch the videos out there on Human Sex Trafficking during the Super Bowl. What I watched was an emotional response to what they saw. OUTrage and sadness at the news that little girls and boys, as young as 9 & 10 will be sold to spectators of Super Bowl Sunday. Literally thousands of our babies.
I asked Bennie (age 20) last night... Are you going to a Super Bowl party tomorrow? "No Ma!" How come Bennie? "We are boycotting it, Ma!" Are you upset you are not watching it? "No Ma, this is pretty fucked up what's goin' on!" I am not sure what the other boys are going to be doing... But I can tell you this. They will have the images of young children being bought, sold and raped during the games.
My older son (intellect) doesn't believe boycotting will do any good - Believes we need to speak out about it. But not watching is not going to do anybody any good. Personally - I don't get how you can watch knowing what's going on.
I guess I really want to know what our community thinks about this! What you might be thinking when you are watching the game later today with your buddies! Will you be thinking about the thousands of children? Or will you be thinking - Go Packers Go?

Here's what I will never comprehend.. People were ready to draw and quarter Michael Vick over DOGS, that thread lasted for days it was exactly 14 pages of some ugly shit regarding this man and his abuse towards DOGS.. Here we can't even get a "thanks for letting the community know". Tonight for each big play I'll post a candle for whatever child is being raped and tortured in celebration. Happy Super Bowl Rape Fest.

I am not American and so watching the Super Bowl is no big deal for me.
However if I was to learn that during a big sporting event in Australia this was occuring I would be sure to vent my anger and boycott the said event. Now I also understand that boycotting is not necesarily going to change what is but at least I would know in my mind and heart that I have done what is right for me.
Hopefully if enough did as I did then the sponsors would get the message and maybe just maybe they would do a community awarement phase during there commercials so as that the entire country would know what was happening, I think then those that are (selling children) would have difficulties and the demand would drop.
As the OP in this thread, I would like to remind people the intent was to talk about a football game.
The current derail is very worthy of discussion and in need of a thread of its own. I look forward to someone starting it.
Enjoy your day.....however you choose to celebrate/boycott it. :)

People will say Snow!
It is not the NFL's fault this is happening!
No it is NOT!
But... Have they spoken out against it?
Will there be one advertising campaign today about it?
Are they helping with their billions of dollars to stop this?
NO they are not.
Facts: "In 2010, the average cost of a 30-second commercial was (according to CBS, the network that televised Super Bowl XLIV that year) approximately US $3.01 million. This excludes costs and fees for actors, equipment, ad agencies, directors, crew and other personnel."
30 seconds of commercial time! 3.01 million dollars. Of course the networks are profiting, but so is the NFL. How many commercials will be played?
For me, if they (NFL) and the TV affiliated had spoken out - I would be feeling a wee bit better about the game. At least they are speaking out. But then again - How can I be disgusted with them, when our own community does or says nothing. Except - GO PACKERS GO!
The only NFL player (I can find) who has spoken out against this - Is Jay Ratliff of Dallas Cowboys. It's on vimeo - So, I cannot embed.

Folks -
I'm receiving reported posts from this thread.
I appreciate Snow starting another thread for the discussion on the humanitarian aspect of the Superbowl and hope that folks will delve deeper into the topic. All oppressions are linked and it is responsible to educate ourselves.
Also, if you are having issues with a post you have the choice to report it and let us deal with it (rather than acting as moderator, which is against our TOS) or you can engage *respectfully*.

Out in the cold.
Those interested in the gamesmanship of football and with cable hopefully have on NFL Network.
Teams arrive in 3 hours. They showed them shoveling snow in courtyard around the Lombardi statue. Brrrrr. Bitter cold.
But the Packer's and the Steelers play in that freezing weather.

LOL I am just glad my friends and I are not the only ones who thought so...not sure what the heck happened but it was horrific. I think part of the reason is they are performers not really that talented vocally without major editing...at least that is what became evident to me in watching it.
BTW Christina actually forgot a few lines lol...it did still sound great though

Jersey #12: 13 Super Bowl Victories
#12 has been a remarkable number for NFL starting quarterbacks. From 1972 to 1980, every Super Bowl was won by a quarterback wearing #12. The Super Bowl champion list of quarterbacks wearing #12 includes Joe Namath (69), Roger Staubach ('72, '78), Bob Griese ('73, '74), Terry Bradshaw ('75, '76, '79, '80), Ken Stabler ('77), and Tom Brady(notes) ('02, '04, '05). #12 dominated the 70s and was dominant in the 00s. With Tom Brady finishing his career and Aaron Rodgers(notes) blossoming into a top-tier quarterback, #12 could find itself a third year of greatness.
and so it is 14 super bowl victories for the jersey #12

Congratulations Packers and Packer fans!!
I actually won a few bucks rooting for the underdog.
Next year though, it'll be the Titans kicking ass :-)
That was a good game. Congrats to all the cheesehead fans!
I am glad the Packers won cuz my bud in Wisconsin owes me a super bowl hat now :)
I think they need to do away with half time entertainment. That performance was supposed to be music? I'm older. I dont like noise. That was noise with dancing lol.
Any did anyone find a decent commercial in that bunch? The etrade kid is always cute but even that one wasnt so hot.

I am so proud to be a packer fan and living in milwaukee. We drove down water street (the party street downtown) and everyone was honking their horns and screamin! My voice is shot from screaming at the bar. The steelers put up one hell of a fight and i respect the hell out of them for that. I bleed green and gold and im so happy we brought the lombardi trophy home. Go pack!!!!!

You steelers fans had me nervous for a bit, but in the end we pulled through and are the champions :) Apparently there are not riots happening on water and brady street. Everyone is drunk and getting into fights and my friend is now stranded at the bar we were at because all the cops have everything blocked off. I'm proud to be a packer fan and a wisconsinite, but now we're just acting like idiots.

Congrats Packer fans. I'll be putting away my bandwagon cheesehead hat for the season. The Pack won, the Lombardi trophy is home, and Ben was properly relegated to being "not one of the greatest quarterbacks ever".
Oh, and Tommy got NFL MVP with a perfect score of 50 votes.
This was an all around nice day in football.

GREAT TEAM TO BEAT OUR ASS. Glad for your guys stayed through it, stuck with it and fought to win.
Being an avid rabid Steelers fan my whole life, the mourning occurs for a bit, and then it kicks in and we will rally. I will be in mourning till training tapes start coming out.
Green Bay team Aaaron Rodgers, and their fans were awesome. It was a great game of football.
Below is a funny a friend sent me.
A woman had 50 yard line tickets for the Super Bowl. As she was sitting there for a while, a man came along and said he noticed the empty seat from his row way above. He asked her if anyone would be sitting in the seat next to her.
"No," she said, "the seat is empty." "This is incredible," said the man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world, and not use it?"
Somberly, the woman says, "Well... the seat actually belongs to me. I
was supposed to come here with my husband, but he passed away. This is the first Super Bowl we have not been to together since we got married in 1967."
"Oh I'm sorry to hear that, that's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative or even a neighbor to take the seat?" The woman shakes her head, "No, they're all at the funeral."

What a joke half time was. I knew it would be A HUGE WASTE OF TIME. The ONLY thing that was great about that was SLASH. Not too sure what the big hype about The Black Eyed Peas is anyway *in general*. They all gotta go...That Fergie chick is just a pretty face (cosmetic surgery wise, etc) added to the mix.
She can't sing, never could in my opinion. No clue why they're all that famous...The music drowns them out (which is probably the best thing) and anyone can get up there and do that. MARKETING baby, MARRRRRRKETING....
Puppy Bowl ALL THE WAY!

What is this Puppy Bowl?
YouTube - Puppy Bowl Classic - Tackles and Fumbles
Here's a clip. They don't actually have any teams, but any dog getting any toy over either line gets a touchdown. I don't really think the score interests anybody too much. But they DO have an MVP (most valuable puppy). :)

.. and so I don my Packers sweatshirt today, walk into Walmart, and the first person I see is a woman wearing her Steelers sweatshirt. Yes, I was smug as can be as I walk past her with my chest popped out like ... BAM! Uh huh, we won.
See.. I live in Eagles territory. About 90% of the population are some sort of Philly fan. For years I took a lot of shit for being a Packer fan - even up north where I grew up. But today was different. People were actually congratulating me. Sure, there were some looks, but yanno, I don't care .... I have my vengeance. It is sweet.

I may be a transplant to Chicago, but my heart is and always will be in Wisconsin! I can't believe my boys pulled it off! It was a very exciting game! :)
Kobi, I have to admit that your noise with dancing comment almost made me spew my coffee! And, there were a few commercials that were cute, but I wasn't really impressed.

I enjoyed the half time performance. Let's face it, they can't get Prince every year and he was by far the best half time performer ever. Janet Jackson was awesome too - and I'm not even talking about the 'wardrobe malfunction'.
I thought there were a lot of funny commercials. My fav was the Bridgestone commercial with the beaver. The beaver cuts a tree down and is in the middle of the road when a guy comes up on him and slams on his brakes to keep from hitting him. So then the guy is driving down the same road again and a huge tree falls in front of his car. Again he slams on his brakes. When he gets out he sees that if the tree hadn't of fallen he would have been swept away by a flooding river that took the bridge out. He looks over to see the beaver who thumps his chest and then points at the guy - kindly like saying we're even. I thought it was great :) I even remember that it was for Bridgestone and while I might remember the commercial I rarely remember who it was for lol
