Well, let me say what I do know to be true. You seem genuinely interested but perhaps a novice so the best advice would be start slow. First you do need a good lube, any good one will do. It's just personal preference. Astroglide would be a good choice because it's thicker. You don't want a thin, runny lube for this, unless of course you DO and then buy your favorite.
I don't know anything about hemorrhoids sorry to say, I can't help there.

Like any kind of penetration you want to start slow. If you want to use a dildo maybe it would be best to just start off with just a plug and get your ass used to taking it. Use lots of lube and then you can work up to a dildo (smaller at first) then you can go bigger. It's all a matter of personal preference. Hmmmm I just use whatever I have for regular sex. Just use plenty of it. I know for more aggresive anal play, like fisting or really big plugs you probably are going to want a thicker lube (butter) that stays on longer, doesn't absorb as quickly.

You will want to lube them like anything else you want to stick in there. I like butt plugs for multiple purposes. My take on Gun Oil is it generally works for me ok. Start out with smaller dildos. For the receiver, over time the relaxing will just be an unconcious reaction (loosening of the sphincter) when something gets close. Maximus is a favorite, thicker lube, reccommended for anal play. Thicker lube lasts longer. There are plunger type things you can buy. Fill the butt with lube and slather it on your fingers/toys.

Two more thoughts, slightly related. (can Y/you tell i like anal sex?)

1) Figging. Good ol' use of the ginger root up the ass. peel it first. this might seem obvious but a friend of mine didn't. Spit works as lube here (IF you are spit bonded, and thank You Syr for that reminder). From experience, use as little lube as possible with ginger. It was my mistake to use a LOT of lube and instead of toning down the ginger like i thought it might, it instead just spread the burning sensation all over the place. The point (i think) is to have it burn then gone when it is out. Instead i ended up with burn and unable to get rid of it. silicone lube seems to be less burny with ginger than liquid silk or more creamy based lubes, just in my experience. One of the added benefits of ginger is that it relaxes sphincter muscle involuntarily ;-)

2) Spice play. i'm a horribly naughty boi and am also a sexual masochist: if there isn't pain i probably won't come. With spice play kinds of stuff you have to be somewhat careful. There are things you can use and things you can't. i have not (yet) had the experience of a peeled hot pepper but have friends who have used them. i HAVE used both Icy Hot and Tiger Balm. Of the two i definitely prefer Tiger Balm, and out of the two varieties i think the red/original is better than the white. Icy Hot and white tiger balm burn (icy hot stronger) but don't go away in a reasonable amount of time. red tiger balm burns, smells better (to me,but i have a thing for cloves), and then dissipates reasonably (in about 5 minutes). You can be horribly mean and use them as lube, but you may not be able to take the sensation so best to try a dab on the outside or just slightly inside to see how you handle it first. caution about spicy things!!: they can blister you! This is NOT sexy! this is why you should try a tiny bit before going nuts with it! be careful and go slow. oooooh it is worth it :)
