Is the 'ignore thread' feature new or am I especially non-observant lately?

I think it's a great idea, especially for triggering and controversial threads, whether it's new or not. :thumbsup:

It is new but hasn't been officially announced since there are a couple of bugs we need to address before saying it's good to go. You can try it but I believe on the front page you may still see threads you've ignored.

Nina -- It's under the Thread Tools at the top of the thread. Just go in there and click on that, it should work.

I think that is one of the bugs Linus was talking about. Let's see if he or Medusa can get in here and talk about that some more. In the meantime, do try logging out and report back on what happens. :)

That's the one bug we're attempting to track down. It's a conflict between the ignore thread option and what we use to create our fancy front page. If you go to New Posts, you'll likely not see the thread at all even if it does appear on the front page.

but, I can do what I already do, and not read things I don't want to read, I just find that (at the moment at least) I am getting irritated at the listings which irritate me...lucky for me I am able to get over myself! :)

Hi Linus- yes, this is the one.

Not sure if I understand it completely. Thinking it could help with combating stalking behavior in a "quiet" way by
blocking access to visitor messages and who we interact with.

Nina: I suspect you were doing it from the front page. That's a known issue (the developer never did help us with it and we're still trying to figure out why).

Next time, try from in the forum area itself (that is, click Forums and then go to the Whois in Chat drop down). Should work.

I was wondering yesterday if anyone here had used Sea Foam additive for engines/ crankcases yesterday. I was told it really does help clean up engines so I picked some up, but ( even after watching their little video) I am still unsure exactly how much to use.

I hear mixed reviews on it. Some swear by it, some think it is not the best thing for their engines. I personally don't use it.

I do not know how much to use, so I would suggest contacting Sea Foam, or seeking out a car forum for your make/model, and putting Sea Foam in the search engine of their forum. For sure there will either posts on it or someone will be able to answer your question there.

I was looking for a space where those of us who are "useless with tools" can talk about dealing with contractors, compare options, think ahead to routine stuff that needs to be replaced before it becomes problematic.

Is there somewhere else this would fit that is not catching my eye?

Gemmes rep points hasn't gone up in 5 days. She sent an email but never got a response so I'm sending a message for her. She has gotten reps but her points are stuck at 21 million some such or the other. I don't know if this is the thread for this though but I figure somebody would look at it.

It's pretty discretionary for me and we have moved a couple of those threads back and forth between the "regular forums" depending on recent moderations, tone of posts, etc.

Just you. I suspect that you've managed (somehow) to set the font color to that as a default (possibly by browser). Does it always show that colour for all posts you create or was it for that one post?

Isn't that strange? I just opened up in Chrome and it is back to white. In firefox it is that dark gray. It is not the font color - it is the background color of the box.

Yes, it is something I've checked into for new members of the day but it requires several modifications. I have it on the list...

Also, we don't have a way to save font preferences. I have searched high and low for a modification but it seems that it would put a huge load on the server because it requires not only a script but multiple database queries.

I'll keep searching though! Or hopefully they'll figure out a way to do it so that it doesn't crash the system with the next vBulletin release!

Here's a work around. Create a text file and call it BFP. Set it up for your color and font.

For instance, mine would be <FONT=Georgia><SIZE=3><COLOR=Purple>xxxx</COLOR></SIZE></FONT> with all the < being changed to [ and all the > being changed to ].

Clunky, but you would have your presets in place. :)

That's kinda neat, as sometimes the window would pop up and get all goobletygooked up with a large pic that had been posted or the avatar of the next poster and I would not be able to see what I was typing, so I know I sent out some heavily typoed reps when that happened.

Cajun: to do a screenshot on Mac hit Command+shift+4 (at the same time) and then you just make a box around the screen. :) It should result in a picture saved to the desktop.

It seems that the VBulletin team (the software that we use to run this site) has quarantined certain games involved in our arcade package due to a security issue.

It sounds like it's not storing your cookie. Hit the big black logo at the top and try to go into chat again afterwards. I checked it with a couple of profiles and am not having any issues

If you do this from the front page, this won't work (known issue that we've asked the forum developers to address). If you do it from inside the forums (where forum listings are) it should work.

Hi. If someone has a Supporter II membership, which allows them to go on as invisible, will they leave a "foot print" if they go to my profile? Will they show up as a ' Recent Visitor ' if they visit my page? I suspect not, but was curious to know for sure.

Wait. I thought that if one is invisible the numbers of visitors show up, but not the person's name?

For example, I went to a new person's page last night. I was not invisible. It showed that the person had 5 visitors, but I was the first "name" that had visited their page.

Perhaps this means that the "numbers" count but the name does not show?

I actually have seen it more about you/someone (Medusa has her name visible often, too), from the site as presenting as "available" or as a "host/hostess" of sorts. Not that I see you as being "immediately available" when I see you online, just something about someone being around, if needed.

Hey, that actually is a really, really good idea! I think $1 a month for chat is more than fair. Meaning, I can't imagine people balking at that. And of course it will cover the extra cost of chat the site has to put out.

Well that makes sense. But no I close my browser. As a matter of fact I closed my browser and went to bed at midnight. My wife saw me listed as viewing control panel when she got on her computer at 5:30 AM before work. We have separate computers and I noticed the same thing happening with her. But maybe its just our computers acting weird. No biggie. Mostly I was just wondering why it would say I was on when I wasn't for such a long period of time. Twenty minutes, even an hour I can understand but 5 1/2 hours is excessive. But it's probably my computer. It's a bit wacky.

I can access it from my Android phone, using both the default browser and Firefox, and have posted from there as well. Just thought that if people subscribed to threads they have access through it from the app. Like a lite version of BFP.

It's disabled. As a tech/admin we tend to have all abilities which is why I could see it. What is it that you want to upload? (not all attachments are pics as you could have word docs or pdfs).

This is a cookie session issue.

When you log in and click "remember me" on the password login, immediately click the black logo at the top of the page and it will store your cookie session indefinitely.

When I get a PM it sends a notice through my gmail account. Has and still does work great. I thought you should know that a few days ago they have started red flagging these email notices as possible phish. They are working just fine, just has the big red banner.

Timed-out means they cannot access the site. They cannot log in although they could anonymously read whatever any guest could.

Time outs are usually for one of two things: spammers (i.e., specific kinds of trolls that just post to get traffic to their website for the purpose of selling a product) or they violated the Terms of Service (TOS). How long is dependent on whether it's a first offense, how many times previous they've been timed out and/or warned and their response to a moderator or admin. (e.g., telling the mod that they should "fuck off and die" usually isn't a good idea :blink: )

Maybe its just me... but does anyone else have trouble when they click on the color they want and it posts the RGB code instead of the word? When it does this it doest post correctly... instead of just reading the code and coloring correctly it does this:

It doesnt happen all the time.. and I can rekey it and it posts fine the next time..just very frustrating.. especially when posting something you cant edit.. like a user note...

I just experimented with this and cannot seem to cause it to happen (I will admit to not using colours that often when posting so perhaps it requires a more constant use for it to appear?). What browser are you using (Firefox, IE, Safari), out of curiousity?

My phone will log me out of the site and when I use my laptop after logging out on my phone, I get logged out there, too! Like you my laptop and phone use the same Wifi connection...

I've asked around the geeks I know and they've suggested it could be because the ISP is being used by two softwares.

I try giving 15-30 minutes before logging in on either my phone or laptop; doesn't seem to work that well.

Is this on the iPhone Safari browser or another one? I wonder if it's because they are both on the same wireless. Can you switch the phone to non-wireless (that is, set it to 3G only) and do the same steps to see if the browser locks up again or not?

I've tried setting to 3G and it still happens, other times I get a blank white page. I'm on Android so wonder if it's the phone...

Your situation is slightly different than Holly's I think. It could be the phone (app/browser, most likely) since I can use multiple browsers on the same or different systems to connect to the site without issue. I do, however, keep myself logged in always so that might be why I don't see the issue.

Ya. That definitely points to a browser at this point. As much as I don't want to upgrade to vBulletin 4.0, it may be worthwhile since there is a mobile version of vBulletin included with the 4.x version.

I sized the photo differently, and was able to post it. The only thing that remains a mystery, is why it kept saying the original photo was uploaded successfully.

Ya. I've seen that before. I think it's the developer of our gallery mod didn't use proper error messages. It should issue an error of some type.

I've had an idea. When you click the "New" button to read the new posts of a thread, I thought it should take you to the first unread post, not to the end of the thread. Then you have to scroll up to find where the thread left off. Does that make sense, or is there something I'm not seeing?

if you look on the left side of the title of the thread you will see the little blue box with the downward v thingy............click on it and it will take you to the first new/unread post in that thread since the last time you signed in.....if there is no little v box then there are no unread posts (for you) in that thread.....

Click on the Search --> put search terms in the box for "Keywords". In the Select Categories section hold the shift key and click with your mouse the two Reunion Photo sections. Then click the Execute Search button. If there is more than one page you will see the word Next Page on the bottom right. Click on that until you find the page with the photo you are looking for.

I keep getting booted off, especially when I hit "preview post" or submit... or when I'm switching pages or searching forums. Can someone please check to see if there's a conflict with my IP address? While working out of town, I'm having to use my Droid mobile hotspot or the hotel's Wifi...depending on which signal is the best.

I've had IP address issues in the past...when I had to switch from my phone to a friend's wireless... thought it might be the same issue tonight?

I'm not Linus and I'm certainly not techy in the least, but...

We have to type a minimum of 10 characters for the system to allow something to post. Are you typing less than that? If so, it won't let you do it.

Is that what you mean?

Also, when you are quoting something, make sure you are typing outside of the quote itself, otherwise it won't register it as your post and, thus, not count towards your 10 character minimum.

Yes, logged off the site just within seconds of logging on or when I tried to hit preview or submit (not like timed out for long periods of non-use)...
I was afraid that 'the site' was registering that I was using two internet services with different IP addresses (not at the same time, but when I couldn't get the computer to pick up the hot spot, I used the hotel's WiFi...) ...
Tonight when I logged on, about 2 minutes later when I tried to open a forum, it logged me off... my WiFi has a strong signal and the other webpages I have up haven't been affected. I just wanted to make sure with me traveling lately, that 'the site' isn't getting confused by the different IP addresses I must use. :seeingstars:

And if you check the "Keep me logged in" option? Does it keep you on? The "kicking off" doesn't have anything to do with the variety of IPs since I also travel a lot and end up with a variety of IPs, even within the same day.
