View Full Version : You look like "THAT"?!?!?!?!?!

Jo and I were talking today about how the people we talk to online rarely look like the image we have created..I have done this for yrs..maybe because im a very visual person. I usually base my projection on username, way they talk(type) and sense of humor.

Has anyone else "assumed" how someone might look? I am not talking about"oh i thought she/he/whoever was gonna be hot" because hotness rests in the eye of the beholder

Let me start....our "friend" Jake Tulane...we both had him pegged as a well dressed, professor, semi nerdy--Dapper Dan type....we were WAY off..:lol2:

Zimmygurl...whom we love to death...i had her pegged as a quiet, semi shy girl---well anyone thats met this wonderful woman knows she is neither!

I frequently check the galleries, but lots of folks here don't have any pics posted....always frustrating!

Of course, everyone knows I'm a petite princess-like blonde :winky:

We were talking in the car today about this...and agreed that June should look like a cross between June Cleaver (ya know...the Beav's mom) and Dixie Carter (Julia Sugarbaker).... :cheesy:

i am not a gallery perv unless i am really really bored or someone caught my interest......perhaps i prefer to make up my own images! :)

I tend to picture people as warm or cold... Warm being those would be the people you would generally find me around and cold being I am not so certain how I would feel around this person... As we all have learned sometimes words that are written don't come off as eloquently as they do in our heads... For me, be kind... kind to yourself and kind to each other... Honestly for me, looks are secondary... It's what is on the inside that counts...

One met very few off of the site. But they all looked like their pics in the gallery. Most that I have met tell me my pics don't do me justice. I think they look like me. But you can't see how blue my eyes really are in pics.

Hmm...I could just imagine how folks would picture me if I didn't have some photos up. Especially since I usually type with the same accent as I talk. (Y'all, yonder, etc...lol)

I kinda wish everybody had a pic up cause I like seeing who I'm talking to. Just cause I'm curious (*ahem* nosey...lol). There have been quite a few times when I've been surprised. Also with voices. I like imagining folks' voices as well, and am usually surprised there too. :)

Folks are usually surprised by my voice. Mine is kinda low and a lil throaty/raspy-ish...that is, until I get all excited about something and then it's more high-pitch...with some squealing if I'm super excited...LOL

I've met people in RT that I knew online and like scoot they looked nothing like I had thought they would. I've had people say all my pictures look different.

I haven't talked to many people from the site on the phone bcuz im not really a phone person, but one certain femme does stand out.

It was hesterical, because I think we both weren't expecting what we heard on the other end. I have a very thick Jersey accent and she has a very thick southern accent, and the whole time we were on the phone we were both saying What? huh? what did you say? Oh ok, sorry. LOL

I've met a few people from the sites, and I have wondered about this...but I do have pics, and I don't think my -- in person looks -- deviate THAT much! (of course i am not posting the pics that show too many flaws! lol)

But, my most important question (that I have), is, "Am I Like How You Perceived Me To Be?" -- in terms of my personality, attitudes, affectations, behaviour, etc.

Everyone that I have asked that question to, pretty much said, you are like your online-personna.

I'd like to think that what you *see* on here is *mostly* representative of who I am in R/L. (I think I am a bit funnier in R/L which might not come off b/c I post about some serious issues).

There are A LOT of members I would love to have a conversation with--pics or no pics--solely based on their awesome and open posts.

I'm not much of a (gallery) perver so I rarely know what anyone looks like. The majority of the people that I've met, or seen pics of, after knowing them online for awhile have looked pretty much the way I have expected them to look.

Voices, on the other hand, have always surprised me!

I remember a very silly night, many year's ago on the dash site, when a group of us started talking about voices. The end result was a very long series of short phone calls and the in thread sexy voice poll that resulted in everyone getting the same number of votes. I don't think I've ever talked to that many different people in an hour!

First time I heard Blue on the phone - this after a month or so of exchanging e-mails, chat, and so on - I squealed, ''Ooooooooooh, you sound like a girl!''

Nope, subtle is definitely not my middle name.

I would LOVE to post a pic of myself, but I really can't due to work. Too much personal info. in my posts if someone came across it and then searched to read my posts.

I actually feel guilty OFTEN for not having a pic. I feel like it is unfair in some way to be able to see pics of others and them not see pics of me. Especially those I have a bit of a friendship with.

I wonder if there are others here who don't post pics for the same reason? Anyone?

Now Miss Jo is just how she says she is but I will have to say she has a kind welcoming smile that lights up a room just way about her..

Me I get more of the comments about my voice cause yeah I am from CA but I a good amount of time in TN and boy do I have the drawl trust me my guys give me hell over it at work:police: guess I am really more of your avarage bastard Cowboi ain't much special here :cigar2:

I think this is a genuine concern for some...at first I hesitated because I share a child with an asshatish ex-husband...and finally decided heck with it.

I always wonder (not with you specifically Dapper) if it's because some of us feel like our outsides don't match our insides....and we hesitate to show the outside til the inside is known. Hope that makes sense....I'm still on the first cup of coffee. :coffee:

To back way up to Scoote's first post...and the examples of two people we're both rather fond of...I'd never seen a pic of Jake until hy friended us on FB. When I saw it, I had to do a brain re-wiring....cuz my semi-nerdy professor friend in my head doesn't match the biceps...errrr...I mean butch...that I saw. :)

And, for the record, I'm not really a petite blond princess *sigh*

I have met with some of the folks here and for the most part they match who they are here. Others I have spoken with on the phone and I usually get this from people... *I was expecting an accent...* growing up around military folks has given me a unique ability to be able to pick up a accent and roll with it, but for the most part my voice can be a bit scratchy and sultry especially if you catch me just waking up or heading to bed... I was told when I worked for a certain cable company that if that gig didn't work out for me I could always go to work for a 976 number...

Not that I am aware of. But, there is certainly reason to believe (with the work that I do), that it could happen. The butch/femme community is only so big, and this being the main site out there.... I am not saying anyone would be searching for me, but if someone decided to hit the gallery...ya know? And then decided to search my posts...not so fun.

If I wasn't so personal with my post about my gender identity and brand of sexuality, it may be different for me.

I typically post a photo or two, so I'm usually recognizable when I meet folks in person. Once I was told that I'm prettier in person, but I tend to doubt that, since I'm only human and so try to post the most flattering of shots. You know...the ones taken from an aerial view! :)

I've talked to one or two people, and I think there were no surprises. I'm kind of quiet, soft-spoken, but not shy. I probably am more relaxed, with a more evident sense of humor in person. I love talking to others--it's such a different, more personal experience than communicating on line. When I was single and meeting new people, I wanted to speak to prospective dates and partners as soon as possible. It made things more real and less like a game. I spoke to my partner, with whom I've been with now for six years, on the first night we connected (on a dating site). We met in person a week later, even though we each had to drive a couple of hours to meet half way.

In the past, on another site, I was much more active as a poster. When I met some people from that site, they said I was exactly who they expected. I took that as a great compliment because it's important to me to be as genuine as possible. I don't think I portray a full picture of myself on this site, as I've learned to be more protective and careful of what I say and how I say it.
