Hello from Upstate/Western New York Area!!

We live in the very quaint little town of Naples. Naples is a small town located in the fingerlakes area of Upstate/Western New York. We live about 25 minutes from Canandaigua and about 60 minutes from Rochester!

We both like to socialize and go to get-to-gethers, potlucks, dinners, and theater.. If anyone from Upstate/Western NY area would like to join us anytime.. We would love that!

Hugs

Rogue and SyrIsaac

Glad to see I'm not the only one living in a rinky dink town :) Short of driving 40 minutes to go to a LGBT club, there is no where around to immerse myself in gay folk. Sadness :(

We're in upstate NY, in the Schenectady area. That's just a bit west of Albany. We love to socialize, but it *is* difficult to pull together a group of people. Maybe one weekend day, we could meet in the middle for a festival or dinner or something. I know Western NY has a lot to offer, especially in the nicer weather.

I'm from NYS originally from Yonkers in Westchester CO. moved further upstate to Syracuse/Auburn area many yrs ago. I can say this the 70's late and 80's really rocked up there then something happened ... I guess people moved or lost interest. I had so much fun then when the gay community was really active.

Hi, All!

I will be relocating to the Rochester area (Avon, specifically) some time this year and wanted to drop by and warn everybody.

I grew up in Avon but moved to Nashville when I was 20, so it should be fun getting to know the area all over again as a grown-up

Some things I remember fondly: summers at my grandparents' cabin near Branchport; Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Stoneridge Theater; hanging out on my uncle's boat on Canandaigua Lake; under-aged drinking at Charlotte Beach;Tom Wahl's ice cream; Nick Tahou's; Jay's Diner...can you tell I skipped dinner tonight? lol

I don't have a definite time frame, yet but I'm shooting for no later than October...Hope to meet y'all soon!

Hello! It's nice to meet you :)...I've gone back every year to visit family but I really don't know any B/F folks up that way.

Buffalo is definitely within meet-up distance from Avon!

I wish I had a firmer schedule for when I'll be moving but I have to square away the house here in Nashville, find a job, etc...intending to be back before the snow, though!

I lived in East Aurora for quite sometime and am very familiar with Orchard Park and the Elmwood area. Elmwood is great because it's near Buff. State, so all the college kids hang out on the Ave. We are headed back to that neck of the woods over the 4th of July to see family. I can't wait :)

I am in Ohio but lived in Jefferson, NY, over by Cobleskill and Cooperstown. I LOVED that area and wish i could go back and live there. I taught at the votec school (cant recall the name of it now) and also started to give classes at the arboretum. I had sheep and ponies up in the foothills of the catskills and so adored it there. If I had my druthers of anywhere I could live in the US, this is where I would be. Family keeps me in Ohio, which i also love dearly.

Ms Morningstar, I taught in their special ed program, their pathways to independence. I helped the seniors get jobs in the community and maintain them. And for the younger groups, I taught life skills.

I also had a special class, a locked down unit. Once the door was closed, it was locked and no one could get out. It was for adolescent sexual abusers. Toughest job I ever had. I had one teen I swear will one day be seen on the news. Scared me terribly.

A well known member of the local Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community who moved to Portland a few months ago and returned here Friday for a holiday visit has gone missing.

Frank Goldberg’s relatives are now appealing to Buffalo area residents to help them locate her after she disappeared on Monday from her brother’s home on the West Side of Buffalo. She was last seen at about 6:30 p.m. that day.

The 36-year-old Goldberg, whom friends from her past growing up in the South Towns would know as Aimee Goldberg, is described as about 5 feet, 5 inches in height, weighing 150 pounds, and with short graying blond hair. Described as a “tom boy” in her attire, Goldberg was last seen wearing a hunter green canvas coat with a hood, blue jeans, black laced boots and black wire framed eyeglasses.

Goldberg, relatives said, had been experiencing normal holiday stress when she went missing.

“We are hoping for a good outcome,” said Jesse Goldberg, her brother.

Northwest Police District detectives have received a missing person’s report on Goldberg and are working with the family to try and locate her.

Anyone who may have information about Goldberg’s whereabouts is asked to email relatives at FindFrankGoldberg@gmail.com or go to the Facebook page, Find Frank Goldberg, and post information.

Harmony Goldberg posted this heartfelt request on the social media page seeking help in locating her sister and providing additional information about her:

“Frank Goldberg – much loved sister, daughter, friend and community advocate – has been missing since the evening of Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, and her family needs your help to find her.

“Frank is a loving and strong person, and she is valued deeply by the people in her life. She is both gruff and gentle. She loves taking care of animals, especially cats. She has been an activist and an advocate in the LGBT community for many years, helping to build a transgender support group at Buffalo’s Pride Center, which has been a valuable space of support and community for dozens of people.

“She also has a long history of providing support and services for people with addictions and with harm reduction work in particular. Frank took her wallet that contained her identification and some cash, but she does not have her phone with her.

“We have filed a missing persons report with the police. Her family has notified her social networks, searched the places where she has tended to spend time, and we have been calling the hospitals and coroners’ offices daily. We now need the community’s support to find her.”

still No news .. will for sure post something .. if anything comes up.
its got very icy here over night ... and some flooded areas.
but warming up .. only to freeze up again tonight.
Our awesome Buffalo community members, from all walks of life, went out, posted fliers, looked between buildings, under bridges, along the Scajaquada Creek and the Niagara River. They spoke to business owners, residents, concerned neighbors. We are so grateful for the support of our community!

Buffalo, rocks!!!

Community help sought in search as Goldberg remains missing since Dec. 16

The 11-day search to find Frank Goldberg has turned into a dogged one for her family and friends, who struggled through Christmas without her. Now, they are hoping their exhaustive plea through social media and hiring a private investigator shortly before Christmas will help find her.

Still, the tightknit family and friends of the well-known member of the local Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community refuses to give up hope that Goldberg, 36, who was also known as Aimee Goldberg when she grew up in the Southtowns, is safe somewhere.

The Orchard Park High School graduate had recently returned to Buffalo for a holiday visit after having moved to Portland, Ore., in late August. Thursday, though, her family acknowledged she had “a hard re-entry” here, emotionally. “Frank was in a very difficult place, personally, on Monday night” when she went missing Dec. 16, said her sister, Harmony Goldberg.

“We fear the worst. It’s been a long time,” Harmony Goldberg said of her missing sister. But she was quick to add: “She had a hard time that night, but she’s a survivor. I’m eternally grateful for the amount of love out there holding us up. We just hope Frank can feel it.”

The family believes that Goldberg – whom they described as very loving and valued deeply by those in her life – left her brother’s home on the city’s West Side sometime in the evening of Dec. 16. Her family said that she was last seen at about 5:30 p.m. and that they discovered she was missing at about 9 p.m.

“We do not believe Frank was a victim of a hate crime, and we do not think it is likely there was any kind of foul play,” her sister, Harmony Goldberg, wrote in an email forwarded to The Buffalo News on Thursday.

“Even though we know Frank to be a survivor and fighter, we are deeply concerned for her safety. We thought she would return home, but since she hasn’t, we are calling on the community to help find her,” she said.

Frank Goldberg was last seen wearing a hunter green canvas coat with a hood, blue jeans, black-laced boots and black wire-framed eyeglasses. She is described as wearing “tom boy” attire, and as about 5-feet-5 and 150 pounds, with short, graying blond hair. She took her wallet, containing identification and cash, but does not have her phone with her. Relatives said she left without telling anyone, and had left a vague note in her apartment.

Over the weekend, searchers covered the Allentown area and the West Side, and put up posters and fliers at local businesses. Many who know her are following detailed updates on a recently created Facebook page titled “Help Find Frank Goldberg.”

City police continue to try to find her but have no new information. “Detectives continue to work the case,” said Michael J. DeGeorge, spokesman for the Buffalo Police Department. “At this time, police say there doesn’t appear to be any sign of abduction.”

Police are asking anyone who might have information to contact them by calling the Confidential Tip Line at 847-2255.

Goldberg’s relatives described her as a dedicated activist and advocate in the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community – with a long history of providing support and services to those with addictions and harm reduction issues, in particular. She has helped build a transgender support group at Buffalo’s Pride Center.

Harmony Goldberg spoke Thursday about how loving and strong her sister is. “She is both gruff and gentle,” Harmony Goldberg said, noting her sister’s love of animals and that she owns two cats, Monkey and Tort.

“She is incredibly caring and sweet, able to hold the hard and rough edges of life with a tender and gentle hand,” Harmony Goldberg said.

Frank Goldberg is described as “proudly gender-queer,” having a masculine gender presentation, while intentionally choosing to use the pronoun “she.” Her sister said Frank is one of the bravest people she knows. “She has struggled with so many profound challenges in her life, and every time she has summoned the courage to overcome, and to keep moving forward,” Harmony Goldberg said.

Frank Goldberg’s brother and sister both credited the community’s deep commitment to find her.

Jesse Goldberg made a point of sending his missing sister a message, saying that if she’s feeling self-conscious because of all the public attention and wants to avoid the spotlight, it’s all right to feel that way. “We just want word that she’s safe and OK,” Jesse Goldberg said. “We realize the public attention and community outreach can be intimidating, but we love her. We’re worried, but knowing that she’s OK is really important. Just get word to us that she’s OK.”

Meanwhile, her family has notified her social networks and searched places where she tends to spend time. They are reaching out to the community for more support in helping locate her. Those who may have information about her whereabouts are asked to email relatives at FindFrankGoldberg@gmail.com or go to the Facebook page, Find Frank Goldberg, and post information.

“A Gathering for Frank” is planned from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo, 695 Elmwood Ave.

“We won’t silence anyone’s pain, though we’re having a lot of pain,” Harmony Goldberg said. “It’s not a fake funeral or memorial.”

Morningstar, would you consider moving any news or updates, as you get them, to a more mainstream thread. I only came across this sad story by accident while roaming back into your dyke picnic post but would not normally have been reading NY state threads. Thank you. I'll be looking for your posts and hoping you bring good news.
