Is there really not a car thread?! Because I looked, I really did! But I didn't find the automobile equivalent of the shoe thread... I envision posting pictures of cars that make our mouths water and our knees weak.
I'll go first! One of my dream cars (and my birthday's in November, FYI, haha), a 1966 Mustang GT Fastback:

i just picked up a '94 chevy ex cab 4x4 step side.. it followed the boat it was towing into the lake so i got it pretty cheap. its a builder and reminds me of.. well its almost identical to a truck that was stolen from me in '96..so far so good on the enjine (454), trans and the upolstery cleaned up like new.. i just started on the suspension in replacing all the rubber bushings with urothain then all that will be left befor its a looker will be paint and a set of off road tires.. oh and the sound system is the old stock chevy am/fm with cassette player but instead of changing it i hooked up a sirus radio reciever and the old speakers came alive! oh and she already all black but has primer spots all over it.. im just thinking its a cool truck and glad to have found it.

Like Dutch Leonard, I am fortunate enough to have my dream car.
It is a 2002 BMW Z3 that I purchased in 2007. I wanted one of these cars since the first model came out in 1996. I plan to lower the car by about 1.5inches in a couple of weeks since the aftermarket wheels increased the space between the tire and wheelwell and I don't like the look of it.
I have a topless pic in the galleries. Speaking of the galleries, people should post their rides in the car gallery!
I have a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder SUV that I love, as well.
When either of these cars die, I will promptly buy another, same model, same year (well, the Pathfinder I will actually get a 2001-2004 model, for a slightly bigger engine).
However, there are a LOT of different vehicles that I love, of all types, including the MINI and Jeep Wrangler (I would consider a Wrangler 4 door to replace the Pathfinder, actually).
Another long term favorite (since I was a small kid) is a Corvette Stringray.

There was hardly anything left of my lil white Geo Metro. It folded like an accordian. I didn't find one of the hubcaps until about 5 years later, where it had flown over the highway, down an embankment, and landed near my aunt's barn which was near the highway that runs parallel. I still have that damn hubcap somewhere. :(
Was glad my folks insisted on a "not so cool car" as my first car.

Hardly any knee cartilage left thanks to that. Best part? Not only did the lil ol lady lie about why she hit me, but she had let her car insurance lapse. Luckily I had full coverage so my insurance paid for this:
Still not the coolest car, but it was a good one. I got it when I was 16 and finally blew the motor when I was in my mid-20s. lol

Since we are on the topic of first cars... 1976 Chevy Malibu Classic, one year older than I was. Mine, however, was all silver and I ran it into the ground. I beat that car all to hell, driving over rutted dirt roads and all kinds of shenanigans. But I do recall it basically being a tank and it had a surprisingly spacious interior, especially the backseat... not that I took advantage of that, mind you, goody two-shoes that I was.

I've owned a few cars (and trucks) over the years: '63 VW Bug (white), '66 Buick Wildcat (white), '77 MBG (British Racing Green),
'97 Ford Ranger XLT (Green) & '99 Ford F-150 (a sparkly shark-skin like purple/navy color). The last car I ever want to own will be like the one above: a 1955 T-Bird (rag top). Every single vehicle I've owned has carried the name - Jezebel. Matter of fact, my '99 Ford F-150 saved my life: she was in the first fleet that Ford put a steel cage around the motor. Had the steel cage not been there, I would not be here today. She saved my life :stillheart:

Ford built a special edition Boss 302 in Grabber Blue for the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ and plans to give the proceeds of the sale above the vehicle’s MSRP to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. When all was said and done, the Grabber Blue Boss 302 rolled off the stage with a sky-high price tag of $450,000. Talk about an expensive piece of track-day equipment!

chrysler 300 has come such a long way.. i find myself saying "gotta have"
Interesting. i have one. Only a 2002. i got it cheap used when gas was at 5 bucks a gallon. Just paid it off. i never think of it as a desirable car although it is comfy. i like sedans. In my heart of hearts, i am a buick and oldsmobile old lady. Unfortunately the chrysler does not ride like a big buick. It is made to be high performance, which i so do not need. But it alters the ride. :(

Talked to an older gentleman yesterday who said his first car was a "stovebolt 38." That's the first time I ever heard anyone refer to an old Chevy as a "stovebolt," which he explained to me was the slang back in his youth. Here's a Chevy 38 like he used to have... I asked him what the model name was before I looked it up, and he grinned at me, saying, "It's just a Chevy 38, dear. It'll be the only one." He said his was the fastest in four counties.

joy riding?
me and my best friend took her dad's car out at 2am almost every weekend
until the transmission died and we had to drive it home in reverse.
we were found out that night and I think what saved us, was being
just as sad about the transmission as her father was.
total bummer

My Buick Skylark. I loved her so much! Mine was silver with a red pinstripe. There had been a factory recall issue with the power windows motor and when we popped the driver's side door open, it was charred inside. She had a ton of room in the back and trunk, though. I moved several times using just her. Eventually, I ran her into the ground and her transmission went out. I couldn't go in reverse. After a couple of times of getting towed out of a parking place, I learned to get mighty creative in how I parked and entered and exited parking lots.
For a brief moment, every now and then, this is one of my current dream cars. Then I see one, it makes me giggle, and I realize I could never actually drive one.

Back in the day, I had a 1968 Pontiac LeMans... which was a clone of this GTO. It was baby blue with a thick, dark blue stripe running through the middle. I loved that car. 400, 4 barrel, posi rear - the gas pedal was so sensitive, if you sneezed just right, the car would accelerate.
*sigh*

The Rapper Flo Rida was busted for DUI driving one of these, a Bugatti Veyron, a car with a $1.7 million sticker price, as I understand it. You could have quite a collection of really cool cars for that. Unless you really need a 1000 hp W16 (think two V8's welded together). 'cause I'd buy a Z06 Corvette, a Shelby Mustang, a Laguna Seca Boss 302 Mustang, a Porsche 911 GT3, a John Cooper Works MINI, a Lotus Elise, so many cool cars, so little time!

Gayla, I have this car and I love it (as I love all my cars) I bought it in January, I've filled the tank only three times. Some strange things happen while driving this car, people pull up beside you and start waving and beeping their horn (?) I'm like *Do I know you?* then I realize, oh its the car.......then I get these huge trucks pull up beside me on the highway and want to race (?) Are you serious? look how old I am, I quit racing last decade....but then I have to blow their doors off because this thing flies, then when they catch up I STICK MY TONGUE OUT AT THEM...But my favorite, and it's happened all three times while getting gas.....some guy will come over and check the car all out and then ask *AH, is this electric*
Yeah buddy....thats why I'm putting gas into it* lol
Made by Mercedes, and called Smart for a reason. It's a joy to drive. There are only 42 dealerships in the US....many states don't have a dealership, so thats why the car turns heads. Last year, year ending 2010, 40,000 were sold. Mercedes does zero marketing of the car....it sells itself.
I'm lucky, as I have a dealership in my town.

Sweet. I'd suggest changing the oil once a year even if you don't hit the 3,000-5,000 interval change (not assuming you wouldn't have heard that before...I just hadn't until a few years ago).

I have a picture of it on facebook in the box (not kidding) was looking to see if that was still in the camera) it's metallic blue. Yes, I know about the oil. I have another car....10 years old, 40,000 miles on it and I run synthetic oil in it because of viscosity. Because the smorevette (smart car) is a mercedes, it comes with synthetic already in it. Its an easy car to love. I'm telling you. my car insurance went down $330.00 same coverage. It gets a 4.5 safety rating. Not made to crumble, made to bounce off of. I was offerred a job selling them (i test drove it 6 times before I bought it, just to be sure I wasn't making an impulse buy) again, I hardly drive...and do I really need two cars?

My excuse for two cars is that one is rear wheel drive and is only a two seater, so it is not winter friendly, nor does it haul anything.
My other excuse is that the SUV is 11 years old.
You can use not only the "The insurance is really low on it", "The SMART car is too small to carry anything", plus "The 10 year old car isn't worth selling anyway" as excuses to make yourself feel better :)

I think if I were to be in the new car market I'd seriously consider the new Ford Raptor. It's a sweet ride, interior loaded and completely off road ready.

I was taught to drive a stick right away when I started driving and many of my vehicles have been manual.
This was like my very first vehicle but it was red! A pontiac sunbird. heh. That could haul ass! Ohhh I had fun in the snow with this!

I had one of these mazda's also. It was gold with purple and red lines on the sides. The vehicle was glittered with specks. heh.

I've also owned a Ford Tempo, Chrysler T&C,
Jeep Wrangler Soft Top with big tires and custom wheels,
Pontiac Grand Am,
Kia Spectra GSX that I put larger racing tires on and custom wheels. That ride was sweet and looked pretty similar to this one.

For those of you that have 4 door vehicles such as Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, Infiniti, or even Ford, Chevy, etc.. or have owned in the past
and also pick up trucks (Ford, Dodge, Chevy, GMC, Toyota) . .
Tell me which MAKE do you find to be the most reliable as it gets older?
Thanks!

For sedans:
Hands down hondas civics and Honda accords. I believe that the honda civic is number one in the country for reliability.
You should be able to find this documented in many places if you do any research. Toyotas are a good choice, as well. Nissan is ok, I believe.
I am currently looking for a used Honda Civic with 100,000 miles on it for my stepson for college. No doubt it will run to 200,000 miles easily (if it has been taken car of, even so-so), so I am confident he will make it through the next four years no problem.
I don't know anything about trucks, but I believe that there are some long lasting American pick ups. I don't know about honda/toyotas for pick ups.
I would suggest you check out the reliability ratings on www.consumerreports.org. www.edmunds.com is a good source for car reviews.
Good Luck.

The guy up the street from me has a '67 Nova. He loves that thing and obsesses over it the way I do my BMW Z3. The car obsession is a double edged sword, though. It is kind of masochistic to try to keep something that hurls down the road pristine.

I'd have to say Toyota. They are consistently ranked in the top for reliability. Have a Matrix that's going on 160k and I fully expect over 200k out of it. Toyota's are also known for their low maintenance. Heck! They tried to kill a Toyota Hilux (Tundra in the states) on the show Top Gear. Couldn't do it. The videos on YouTube are worth watching!

I used to drive this
http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/careysparkle/94-90.jpg
a 1993 Audi 90S, V6, 5 speed manual. It drove like a sports car. It drove like a dream.
But it cost a FORTUNE to maintain and repair; it was 11years old with a perfect service record and about 65k on it when I bought it from a sweet older lady. Around 75k miles everything started to need to be replaced, one bit at a time, and every time it went to the shop it cost me no less than $1000. :| But Oh MY it drove like a dream. My mechanic told me they don't make them like that any more, not the same motor, not the same engine; he steered me away from buying a newer model Audi - later on. I likely would have kept spending $3000 a year in maintenance on to it because it drove so well.
Sadly, due to someone idiot's carelessness, I had spectacular a high speed rollover. My little Audi took the bullet for me, for which I am forever grateful, but was totaled. After rolling 3 times down an embankment, sliding along the driver side for 50 yards, clipping a concrete block and flipping up and over (back to a wheels down position) this is what she looked like:
http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/careysparkle/pooky2.jpg
http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/careysparkle/pooky.jpg
Not bad, really, all things considered; the passenger cabin remained perfectly in tact. and I walked away from the accident with a hefty concussion, whiplash and a few scratches on my hands and arms. Which was miraculous. But I was so so sad, I loved that car.
I did a lot of research (through consumer reports and a lot of on-the-lot questions) before I chose my new car.
My primary priorities were:
It needed to be built like a mini-tank with a full steel frame and body,
it needed to be manual and it needed to be reasonably fuel efficient.
I looked at the Mini Cooper S, the Audi A4, the Honda Accord and the Volvo S4. It took me 6-8 weeks and a lot of research to find the right car.
I went with the Volvo in the end, I got a great deal on a low mileage, former executive lease car that was fully loaded.
http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa371/careysparkle/2005-Volvo-S40-T5-AWD-M-4dr-Sedan-2.jpg
It is 2005 S40 T5 AWD; 6-speed, V5 (great in the new england winter!). I really love it, its not the sporty little race car my old Audi was, but it handles beautifully, it has got a good amount of power, and it does feel like a small tank. It has been well maintained and I keep that up. I had a great pre-owned warranty on it that expired last year, and I have not yet had to put much in to it in terms of repair/replacement (touch wood). Volvos are typically pricier to repair than a Honda, but no where near as dear as the cost of an Audi. And Volvo's have a reputation for averaging 250-400,000 miles over their lifetime.
I'm really happy with the car I chose, and I'm really really happy I did my homework before I bought it.

Hey Dapper,
That's a 1954 MG TF, most popular in the T-series MGs.
I figured it an MG (or at least something British), when looking at the low doors and long hood. Although German, the car I posted (#15), was inspired by the British roadsters. In looking at my picture, the low door sills are not obvious, but a large portion of your upper half is showing when you are riding in it! :hangloose:

I love Audi's too, but have never had one. The thing that keeps many people away from some wonderful machines is the repair costs (Audi, BMW). BMWs, for example, will run for many, many miles and since they run so long, you can get a higher mileage used one for cheap, and have it last for many years. The initial investment is not the problem for many of these cars, it is the high repair costs, unfortunately.

But you're quite right, you can get great deals when you buy them, but you have to be prepared to invest the money in the maintenance and repair.

Yes, the next time tantalizingfemme needs a car (which won't be forever, damn long lasting Honda civics!), I would love for her to get a used 3 series. I have a new buddy who works on BMWs, so her getting a Bimmer is now possible, as it will be he and I doing the maintenance work/possibly some of the repair work. Who knows if she will still like that model when that time comes, however.

BITD before Hurricane Andrew got us in Miami, I had a purty burgundy Saab 900 Turbo.
Ended up with too much body damage so got a new 1993 4WD Rodeo in a nice metallic green with added everything I could think of. It was beautiful.
When in Albuquerque, a guy and I completely restored a 1974 Opel GT. Had thought of replacing the stock block for an aluminum. SOB would have been a great sleeper.
btw, both the Saab and Rodeo could carry furniture. Used to collect Deco era bedroom furn.
