Hey Folks -
Many of you may have noticed that we were down last night for several hours. We did update our Facebook to give folks a heads up but wanted to talk more about it here.
Our outage was due to our hosting company having a large-scale server outage. This affected many hundreds of websites and was not specific to the Planet. They worked diligently to get our servers back up and running and things appear to be functioning as normal today.
As always, if you have not yet friended ButchFemmePlanet Home on Facebook or QueerPlanet on Twitter, please do so to receive the latest system updates. It's a great way to find out what is happening if the site is down.
We appreciate your patience and are glad to be back online! Welcome Home!

I will admit that I worried Homophobs had kidnapped you and the site..........I ran to my secret stash to contribute it to the ransom....but then I got your notice that it was tech problems, not terrorism as I had feared, so simply waited it out until our world turned back on!

Well I certainly glad it wasn't me. I always think that I did something to mess up my computer:) Glad I didn't throw my laptop across the room;)
Whenever I see that subject line, I always read it first as "Site Outrage." Then I think, a good outrage or a bad outrage?

I thought the same thing! It would have ended in the pool and then i would be truly sad.

Would it be possible to send out an email letting members know about such out(r)ages?
Maybe there could be an optional list?
I don't tweet or maintain a facebook page.
Though I can probably survive without knowing the nitty gritty.

Yes and no :)
We *could* send out a mass-mailing from our server but we'd have to purchase a list manager so that people could opt out and opt in (so we couldnt be classified as spammers)
The problem we had last night wouldn't even have allowed that since our entire server was down. Good thing that's over!

I understand why you guy's choose not to tweet or facebook, but I have a sugestion that might help so the purchase of the list manager... maybe anyways.
If you just sign up for face book give an alternate name (I have a friend that has a fake name, she used a name like "cherry coke" or "aqua finna" not those names exactly but you get the idea?) anyways if you do that and don't put any real information or anything to personal, then you would be able to double check or maybe butchfemme can email there facebook friends.
would that work?
