The list is so long I do not know where to start. So I'll try to narrow it down to my top 5.

Cinnamon Rolls! OMG they are the size of a mini card door! If you don't want to stand in line you have to get there bright and early.

Corn on the cob! They dip this huge sweet ear of roasted corn into a vat of melted butter. I do believe this is the only thing that comes close to being better than wild sex. (Just Kidding)

12" Corn Dog, Ok! This dog is the bomb, especially with ice cold yellow mustard slathered all over. Geeze, this to may rank right up there with the Corn!

Funnel Cake! Yummy, this fair favorite is so much fun to eat with your partner, trying to see which one can get the most powdered sugar on the other. And what better reason to lick your fingers in public!

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade! Nothing quenches your thirst better than a tall cool glass of this ice cold beverage! We are lucky this drink is available in one of those foot long tubes so you savor the great taste for several seconds. :-)

What's your fav?

I haven't been to a fair since I was a kid but elephant ears, corn dogs, lemon shake-ups and cotton candy were what I always wanted.

Grew up outside Chicago so there was always a lot of Polish food too...pierogis, sausages, etc.

And my hometown is home to the Popcorn Festival so tons of different kinds of popcorn.

Funnel cake with powdered sugar only (don't mess up my insanely unhealthy treat by adding fruit to it).
Caramel apples (not candied though)---my fave take home treat
Snow cones
Nachos with cheese and very hot jalapenos
Cotton candy

I also don't remember going to fair's or carnivals growing up. The closest thing was Seaside boardwalk or the Italian festival in Elizabeth.

The boardwalk had the best pizza and sausage, peppers and onions on a nice soggy hoagie roll.

and at the italian festival, my favorite were the zeppoles (belly sinkers) :)

Cotton Candy, pink or purple please!

Those cinnamin almond thingies...

Fry Bread! LOVE Fry Bread! It's similar to elephant ears, but you can get them with cinnamin and sugar, or apple pie filling, or tacos! Aren't elephant ears usually deep fried? Fry Bread is usually done on a skillet....

Roasted corn with parmesan cheese!

Soft pretzels with home-made horseradishy brown mustard from the 4H peeps... It's hot and spicy and OhMyDawgGOOD! The ONLY time I drink beer is washing down the pretzels n mustards... So you have a bunch of people with an open mason jar of this killer mustard, dippin' our pretzels in (and yes sometimes there might be a bit of double dippin' but it's the FAIR people. Besides, I don't think any germs could survive in the mustard!) passing around an ice cold beer or two, because none of us are drinkers but beer is the only thing that'll cool the ohsowonderful burn...

And caramel apples...

Sausage with peppers and onions

Caramel apples (probably my all time favorite)

Blooming onion with horseradish sauce to dip in

Corn dog...with mustard

Corn on the cob...but only if it's roasted and dipped in butter :)

Cotton candy (just a little, preferably stolen from my sweetie's stick...cuz it tastes better that way)

Apple fritters

Yum!

I tend not to eat at such venues nowadays but if really pushed or hungry will have chips (that's fat fries) or a freshly roasted pork bun/bap/barmcake. When I was a kid and candy floss (cotton candy) was my favourite.

I haven't been to a fair since I was a small child. So let's see, I loved the corn on the cob. Of course a corn dog. My favorite thing was the soft ice cream with swirled flavors in them like carmel or rasberry. Do they still have that?

Prior to dieting, my most favorite thing to eat at the fair...In this order:

#1 COTTON CANDY!!! I'm a junkie with this stuff and could never get enough.

#2 Candy Apples

#3 Snow Cones (adding cherry, grape and orange syrup)

#4 Corn Dog (never had one and thought it would be nasty until I had my first one at the Minnesota State Fair years ago) YUMMMMMMMM....!

From the time I was 12 until I was 19, I had the pleasure of working carnivals and county fairs every summer, but haven't been to any in many years.

My first choice is cotton candy and am still an addict to this day
I'd have to follow that up with elephant ears and lemonade shake ups
Also will add foot long corn dogs because a person has to have meat every now and then while working long hours

I spent a lot of years eating whatever the mess tents served up to employees first thing in the mornings since the carnivals weren't officially open at that time. Some of those mess tents had some pretty darn good cooks.

Tickets for Oklahoma State Fair go on sale tomorrow! It's not until September but the events sell out quickly!. Ah after 14+ days of 100+ weather I am ready for the fall. A couple of years ago they took our fair down to 10 days which increased attendance and made everything a lot better.

I love the Big E I go every year and usually more than once. Last year I had a London Broil sandwich which was good. Then for dessert a cream puff and an eclair. I tried a bite of blueberry pie which was in one of the state buildings and that was good too. Good thing I walk around the whole time after eating all that food. I know exactly what you mean about the baked potatoes. The fries at Jack's are awesome I will probably have those this year too.

I grew up in an area heavily populated with Portuguese people, so fairs and festivals (many religious in nature) always consisted of lots of traditional Portuguese food.
For 15 cents you could get a cup of tramousses. Love that stuff. Or a container of favas.

http://images.media-allrecipes.com/userphotos/250x250/00/98/80/988084.jpg

Chourico or linguica sandwiches were always available at any fair or festival in the area.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3410/3656216662_2690e2bbf3.jpg

Malasadas are my favorite, my grandmother made these for Easter, but you could always get them during fairs and festivals. To the untrained eye they may resemble fried dough but let me assure you they are not. They are DEEP fried dough and that makes all the difference. While it usually has to be Easter or a festival to get them, malasadas are always available at the Portuguese Bakery on Commercial St. in Provincetown, which is a little bit like being at a fair or on Sunday morning at Tony's Bakery in Fall River.

http://images.media-allrecipes.com/userphotos/250x250/00/00/21/2186.jpg

Hard to get this stuff in Montreal even though there is a Portuguese section that has some delicious food. Just not the same food I grew up with. For example the natas here are awesome. And the peri peri chicken fabulous. No chourico or linguica though but you can buy chorizo, which to my mouth is not really the same, but good.

Oh and another rather unique and quite delicious treat you could always get at fairs or festivals where I grew up is the oft misunderstood chow mein sandwhich.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5e/Fall_River's_Famous_Chow_Mein_Sandwich.jpg

I may have digressed a tad here and there. Sorry about that.

I grew up in an area heavily populated with Portuguese people, so fairs and festivals (many religious in nature) always consisted of lots of traditional Portuguese food.
For 15 cents you could get a cup of tramousses. Love that stuff. Or a container of favas.

Chourico or linguica sandwiches were always available at any fair or festival in the area.

I may have digressed a tad here and there. Sorry about that.

Damn, I'm really hungry and I'm sort of specifically hungry which is harder to feed than just plain hungry.

I grew up 20 minutes from Fall River....these are some of the best things from there. I remember the first time I ventured out of the area and headed to a fair seeking out fried dough (because at that time I though everyone knew what a mallie (malasadas) was...and when I got what they called an Elephant Ear I scratched my head. Hmmm I thought...took a bite and spit it right out...wth I thought. My friends got a good laugh at my response. Still to this day I can't eat anything but a mallies

oh and lets not forget this

OMG, yes. Del's frozen lemonade. Wherever folks gather to have fun in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts you will find a Del's truck. Trivia: Was almost chosen as the RI state drink. Lost out to coffee milk.

http://eatyourworld.com/images/staff_food_entries/New-York-Coffee-Milk.jpg

Can't find coffee milk anywhere in Quebec but it wasn't really a carnival/fair food

but this sure was and it's delicious with coffee milk but then what isn't.
Hmmmm! Clam cakes (often called clam fritters for some reason).

I get it about Elephant Ears, lol. In montreal they have Beaver Tails. And while I can eat one warm without spitting it out, why would I want to. I think if you grow up eating malasadas it spoils you for anything else.

Well, I hope Bozo satisfies your every fantasy. However, please know beforehand, that foot/paw size may work to indicate how big a dog will become but shoe size means nothing in terms of clown organs.

I second the anything on a stick. Everything should come on a stick.

Our state fair has these huge, delicious cinnamon rolls made from yeast dough. Man, I'd give an arm and a leg to have one of those right now.

I may have answered this before not sure but the answer is Fisk fries with plenty of salt and malt vinegar. I can not make them taste the same at home as they do at the fair
