The premise of this thread is similar to the idea of the you might be a redneck if jokes.
Fill in the blank.

You might be a geek if...

You understand the phrase

There are only 11 kinds of people in the world, those that know binary and those that do not.

A corollary to that would be "...you ever put roadkill in your backpack because the skull was intact."

Funny, I never got asked out on a second date after that one. Curious.

In my bedroom alone (not counting the other laptops and desktops scattered throughout the house) I had 3 laptops and 1 desktop, which I also shifted back-and-forth thru my flat screen on the wall (along with the Wii, PS3, and 360). After my son's and my father's laptops both keeled over I gave some of mine away, so I'm down to 1 laptop and 1 desktop in my bedroom now. Still have the others scattered throughout the house though...lol

Your RPGs are still done around a table using dice, rule books, dry erase markers, paper and your imagination.

Corollary: You *are* a geek if you've ever played a role-playing game besides Dungeons and Dragons (e.g. Traveller, GuRPS, Heroes, Toon, Vampire, Werewolf, etc.)

corollary to the corollary: You are most definitely a geek if you know what your D&D alignment is. :)

D&D wise - I played a Paladin most often (and actually in the screen shot above the character is a paladin), but I used to enjoy playing an assassin on occasion. I couldn't RP them that well - but man was it nice being an ass (chaotic neutral) to break outta the spell for a bit.

I loved Paranoia! The Computer *is* our friend. :)

I used to play monks a lot because, certainly in 1st and 2nd edition AD&D they were, pound for pound, the deadliest fighters at high level. Being able to *fail* a saving throw and only take half-damage was just too good a deal to pass up.
My other favorite character class was Paladin.

my favourite nerds ever!

http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/26/nerds-race-across-azeroth-irl-nearly-die-from-shame/

back in 2008 this was a written about my two fav nerds, by Justin Villasenor
*before wi, before kinect, before total immersion was but a dream held by a few of us, that wanted to get moving while we game*

"Apparently mice and keyboard controls just aren’t immersive enough for some people, as evidenced by the two guys in the above video. They show off the treadmills they’ve rigged up to control character movement in World of Warcraft, and for some reason they also decided it would be a good idea to cosplay as female Night Elves while doing so. Don’t ask me why.

Elijah and Aaron start off in Shadowglen and race to nearby Darnassus. Elijah narrowly won with a time of four minutes and fifty seconds. The two of them look pretty damn tired afterwards; maybe they should have used a more rigorous training regimen.

Once he’s able to breathe normally again, Aaron goes over how the treadmill controllers work: a mouse tracks a pad on a bicycle wheel that is spun by the treadmill. A scripting program then converts this movement into ‘W’ pulses, resulting in forward movement. He also mentions that while a WoW character has a running speed of 12 mph, they only needed to maintain a speed of 6 mph to get their Night Elves running. I guess a 1:1 pace was just too much for them to maintain.

Do you think a movement scheme like this could be a good way for some gamers to shed extra pounds?"

and most guys love to play female toons, at least over at Blizzard. My theory is because females are so much nicer to look at, especially kicking ass and taking names! And most guys are straight, if they are going to spend hours on end in front a computer screen, they would like to have something lovely to look at.

I might lose some geek cred for this, but I have actually never dressed up in character. And I've also never played WoW.

[ducking to avoid the flying collectors items being hurled at me]

Maybe one reason I've never dressed up is because most of my favorite SciFi characters are male, and you can't really be a sexy Dr. Who.... LOL Although, I have thought of making a fabulous silver mod dress that looks like a Dalek. (must. learn. sewing!)

I love all things space-related, though. When I was a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut. I even went through the Space Academy summer programs a couple of times at NASA. Good times... Now, I need to have kids so I can go back with them!

And I ♥ technology, except Apple. I hate Apple. [ducking again] Mainly because iTunes is the stupidest music software ever made (REALLY?? You can't drag and drop? WTF?!?!?!) Linux is beautiful because it harnesses the power of freedom; open sourcing is like technological democracy. I will admit that Siri kicks Iris's ass, though. Android will evolve to be better. It always does.

So, I have no idea why I'm writing all this, except that this thread keeps me going through the whole workday. Oh, geeks, how I love thee!

Instead of just watching a program on the telly and enjoying it, I am compelled to read and comment on various message boards dedicated to intellectually analyzing the subtle undertones, psychological overtones and the impact on society and art. Oh and I may dress up as a character from said show when given half a chance.

Excited because Diablo III is coming out for PC. Bummed because Diablo III is coming out and your computer won't support the game. Got to get a new computer.:beatcomputer:

You might be a Geek if:

You can name all the 11 Doctors in order, and tell how they regenerated.

You know why Torchwood exists.

You have over 1000 Geek points at ThinkGeek.

You have taken countless Zombie survival tests and passed them all.

You have impassioned debates at dinner over things like Quantum Physics, String Theory, Chaos Theory, Shrodingers Cat, the reason Quarks have weird names like Charm, Up, Down etc, and actually understand most of what Sheldon talks about on Big Bang Theory.

People at work look oddly at you because they don't get all the wording and terms you use, because only other Geeks would know them.

If you know where your towel is.

Read the description if you watch this. This map of a small portion of the universe took over a month for a supercomputer to calculate.

AMAZING

You might be an opera geek if...

... you and a friend are discussing movie themes, and he says, "What about that one from Apocalypse Now? That made Valkyries so much more menacing," and you counter with, "Yes, but the Valkyrie leitmotif was supposed to invoke strength and justice and the presence of divinity, not a sense of kill-your-ass foreboding."

LINUX!!!!!!

You also know you're a geek if:

1) You have a favorite Linux distro.
2) You have a preference for Gnome or KDE
3) You decided you would buy a Mac once they went to a Unix kernel
4) You use Terminal in Mac OS X
5) You create workflows using Automator and AppleScript.
6) You use grep as a verb. (As in: 'Honey, can you help me grep for my keys?' or 'I was late because I spent 10 minutes grepping for my keys)

Cheers
Aj
