Big horror fan here. Big, big monster fan. I especially love the Universal monster classics (Creature from the Black Lagoon is my all-time fave, considering, to me, he's the only *real* monster of the group, the rest spending at least half their time in human form. Even Frank was made of human parts).
Love Hammer horror movies, 50s and 60s - especially the horror-of-personality and Atomic Age exploitation films (oh the terror of social alienation, how I relate to thee), Italian horror, Hitchcock, zombies, werewolves, aliens/UFO abductions, good ole cannibalism, anything obscure or underground, especially if it's been burned or banned somewhere at some point.

Some faves include:
George Romero's Night of the Living Dead
The Exorcist
Psycho
The Descent
High Tension
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Entity
The Hills Have Eyes
Jaws

Vincent Price was a class act. I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of his cookbook - apparently he was quite the gourmand.

Only one so far I've not been able to watch (only a few minutes in and had to stop) was Last House on the Left. If you've seen it you know why or if you know the history of the original (Wes Craven's first film) you'll understand.

Has anyone seen House of the Devil? I'm dying to see it.

Does anyone else think the little girl in The Ring looks like an evil Holly Hobby?

Totally.

I think Holly Hobbie's scarier though. Even for the 70s, Holly's look was anachronistic, which would mean that either (1) she has access to a time machine that brings her to and from the prairie frontier, or (2) she belongs to some kind of polygamist cult. Either way that dress was meant to hide her teen pregnancy. I'm sure of it.

One of my favorite scenes of all time is Lance Kerwin floating outside the window in the old Salem's Lot.

I like to run the DVD back and forth and watch him appear.

I also run the Omen (original one) back and forth like when the photographer gets his head lopped off and the priest gets impaled.

Yes, a bit sick I know :)

Drag Me To Hell wasn't worth the film it took to make it, IMO. But, I'm glad someone liked it.

That said.. We watch a ton of horror/thriller movies. Foreign horror seems to be some of the best I've come across.

I like some horror movies but NOT all....The really gory ones like SAW 1-5 I can't watch they are TOOOO BLOODY.
NOT sure if I can still watch the HELL Raiser movies w/ Pinhead. I haven't seen the old ones...but would like to....Lon Chaney....IF he was the Original Phantom....Is one of my heros. Both of his parents were Completely deaf...But he was hearing. I did like the remake of Halloween...didn't see the second one yet. House on the left tooo wierd and sadistic for me. Saw the original...IT was OK.
I like the old movies Like Jaws. the original halloweens, Friday the 13th. Freddy just gave me nightmares. I agree duchess the book was better for Interview w/ a vampire. I am not sure IF the underworld series could be classified as horror BUT enjoyed that.

Really creepy one I caught recently was The Strangers.. with Liv Tyler.... Truly suspenseful and very messed up..LOL. Of course , it is one of those that I have to watch when the girl isn't home as she does not do "jumpy" flicks. It hurts her to watch them, as when she jumps suddenly it affects her fibro. It was actually worth the watch if you can handle good suspense. Those are my favs. If they can keep me guessing without figuring out the plot in the first ten minutes, I'm there.

On the gore spectrum, I got through about 45 min of Midnight Meat Train recently, but that was all I could handle. Gore for gores sake just doesn't thrill me. It's the suspense, the mind-fuck that reels me in. Hook! Line! and Sinker!

Love the suggestions from everyone else! Thanks!

Also saw Repo Men a couple nights ago. It isn't classified in the horror genre, but if there is such a thing as soft porn, there surely should be soft horror! LOL! It was actually very well made and had a great storyline with enough "thrills" to keep it interesting! Worth the rental!

I freakin LOVE horror movies! I'm watching 'Venom' now as we speak. My favorites are the exorcist/demonic posession kinda stuff. FREAKS ME OUT! I love the Saw movies, and own all of them - although now I want them all on Blu Ray. Other favorites are the Rob Zombie flicks - Devil's Rejects and House of 1,000 Corpses. And I liked the newer Hills Have Eyes and all the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movies. Our 16yo son went to see Paranormal 3 last night and said it was pretty scary - and he doesn't scare easily so I'm curious to see it now.

Oh - and Human Centipede was bordering on too much for me - and I am not usually squeamish - but that messed my head up bad! Not sure I can handle round 2, lol.

I like horror films that have more suspense than gore. I think leaving it to your imagination can make it more of an impact. I love Psycho dir. Alfred Hitchcock. Silence of the Lambs also has a lot of suspense. A few other horror films I would watch over and over again is The Exorcist, The Thing (original b/w version), Alien. I have seen, literally, every horror movie ever made (as far as I can tell) and haven't been scared yet. This is not to say I don't enjoy them, because in most cases I do. Some of my favorites:

Paranormal Entity
The Fourth Kind
The Fog
The Thing
White Noise
The Others
Sixth Sense

But for Halloween, I prefer spending my time with real dead people, so I go on a ghost hunt every Halloween evening. Pitch black, one lantern for the 10-15 people walking through an old fort. No phones, no one can hear you scream....
