Anyone watching American Horror Story on FX? It's twisted and weird and creepy if you're into that sort of thing. I have watched two episodes and have the third on my DVR.

I hope the show doesn't become too weird, à la Twin Peaks where nothing ever made sense and was unexplained because that can get annoying and I might stop watching.

I read the Entertainment Weekly (http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/10/20/american-horror-story-this-weeks-cover/) article and it revealed some spoilers, involving the history of the house and more previous owners.

I'm not sure its kidlette appropriate,at least not the first episode!

personally i think everyone needs to get caught up so we can discuss it..its hard NOT to talk about it without giving things away others havent seen yet!

i just hope they dont drag out divulging the past of those in every episode i.e Jessica Lange, the boy,the maid...sure would make it easier to understand!

IMO, it seems like things are being revealed timely, or at least just before I start driving myself crazy with speculation!

scootebaby

Good Theory Butch...but wouldnt that be a bit too obvious? Either im getting slower and more clueless in my old age or they are soing an awesome job at keeping it very unpre3dictable...Monday @ 10 they are gonna run the forst 4 episodes back to back so im definitely gonna watch that to see if i can pick up on things im sure i have missed. I still like the burnt, gimpy guy not giving up on his money...cracks me up!

anyway i cant wait for more episodes!

ETA: i do have one question when his daughter caught the maid with her hand on the dads junk why did they just let that go...it was never discussed or anything--which i find weird.

ButchEire
10-27-2011, 10:07 PM
The repetitive things, like the guy who killed his family popping up always wanting money make me think it's akin to a residual haunting (a type of recording of an emotionally-charged event). We know the two gay guys are dead and yet, they come back to their house and no one has a problem with that? Methinks everyone is dead and repeating things that have already occurred, but repetition of events that were separate and now suddenly are thrown together.

I am ABSOLUTELY obsessed with this show finally something that is almost believable when it comes to bringing in the paranormal and the dark unknown, I definitely think ButchEire is onto something, it sort of reminds me of a more twisted and bizarre 6th sense in means of how it sort of plays out if that makes sense?

Check to see if FX or Hulu are running the episodes. And call Direct TV customer service and tell them what you think. You like the show, and I am assuming that others who have Direct TV do as well...if enought customers complain perhaps they won't cancel it.

I love the show and enjoy watching the story unfold every week...some episodes have parts that confuse me, but it seems that they resolve the confusion in the following episode..so it's all good :)

We watched Wednesdays episode last night.

My questions of the night:
( and I'll try to be fairly vague for those who haven't watched yet)

We saw how the dark haired boyfriend died, but how did the light haired one die?

Why did she drag Abby to the lawn "while she's still with us"? Is there something about the house that keeps them alive? Or trapped there? Which leads to my next question, why can't the maid go with het mother?

And what did the nurse see that made her faint??

I'm guessing all will (or will not!) Be revealed next week, but I hate waiting!

Any thoughts?

Did you notice that when the gazebo got built, Jessica Lange's character said "Now you'll be stuck here forever"?

just a random, off the top of my head thought....perhaps she (Jessica) meant that if u die on the property you will never be able to "pass over" so to speak...ur spirit will forever be earthbound!

i like the 6th sense angle...and add in the Paranormal Activity side--where the spirits feed off your deepest, darkest fears or thoughts.

should be interesting to see how it unfolds....i have to say it is helping me with my patience issues tho(which i have very little of)...lol

Didn't you get the impression or hint that at least some of these people are simply stuck between worlds when the maid went to visit her mother? Her mother told her to come with her, but the maid said she couldn't. The maid, mind you, is already dead. She was killed by Jessica Lange's character because she found her sleeping with her husband and then buried both of them under the gazebo.

Chock full of ghosts: the maid, the teen boy, the two gay guys (almost spit out my milk I was drinking when the one guy started talking about his "power bottom" personal trainer trick); the black latex guy...maybe all of them are!

I just can't figure out how they will sustain this through the whole season but I am sure they have a plan.

i've watched episodes 2,3 & 4 online...this show has some seriously creepy stuff and i'm not sure if i like the show enough to keep watching. The black latex guy completely creeps me out to the point my skin crawls. It's the lack of face that bothers me - similar to the way some masks bother me because the face does not move. Also it is a claustrophobic thing...i feel like i can't breathe when i see someone in one of those suits...*shudder*

Despite this i'm still curious about what happened in episode 1 and Halloween Part 2 and cannot find them online...

I could watch it for Jessica Lange's performance alone but fortunately that hasn't been asked of me quite yet. There just isn't anyone else in the shot(for me) when she is there. The first episode of Coven was no different. She grabs you by the throat and drags you along behind her. The crafting of this show is magnificent; they build layer by imperceptible layer as if flavoring a fine dish. From the story line and the actors to the filming and the sets, it all seems to unravel into a perfect fit.
The live in school for witches that we are introduced to when Taissa Farminga is whisked from her parents home after her boyfriend is killed in a black widow event which reveals her heritage as a witch, presents as a quirky version of The Facts of Life with Sarah Paulson as the house mother. We learn about each girl's special power which pales the ability to kill someone during coitus if that is even considered a power. It seems quite unfortunate for her and I am looking forward to where that will go. We are introduced to Madison Montgomery, a young, self -absorbed actress whose flip of her wrist sends a bus load of rohypnol loving, date raping frat boys to a fiery end. It all seems a bit like a show on the EW until the Supreme, mother to Sarah Paulson, shows up and takes the girls on a field trip to New Orleans. She tells the girls to wear 'something black'. I would give up my super power for the period outfit worn by Madison. The Supreme, Fiona Goode, wants to teach the girls about fighting oppression rather than hiding from it but I am sure we have not seen the last of Sarah Paulson, at least I hope not.

The back story, includes Kathy Bates and events that took place in the 1830's which seem to be tying into modern day, may prove to be very interesting and horrifying. I have not seen this week's show yet but I am sure it is even better than the first.

There was one thing that annoyed me. The voice over a frame of Gabourey Sidibe grabbing a turkey leg out of the fridge, telling us that some may already have lost the ability to trust or some nonsense. If fat people are not going to be allowed to be just people in a show then I would rather they be left out. In the words of the talented and funny comic Catherine Tate as Derek,' How very dare you?'.

I agree this show is an eye catcher,I watched the first instalment it caught my intrest big time. All the charatures blend well with there own bit if panach,I watched the second show it was really good..I will say no more, watch and see.

I saw the season opener last night and think that I liked it better than the original season. It touched on a LOT of topics that are hot button issues as well as providing a well-written and acted show. I'll definitely be watching this season, as long as I can remember to set it up each week. For some reason, I can't record the series on my dvr. Not sure why, but I'm glad I got the opportunity to see it. I'm going to enjoy this season very much.

I loved this last episode... I snickered and laugggggggggghed when Delphine LaLaurie was watching Obama in the magic box. I wish I could remember her line - but it was classic. And Queenie - why oh why did she want to be mounted by that bull? I can say I am not sorry at the demise of Madison. And seriously... That woman deserved to have her head bashed in.

Yeah, BUT.....it could go either way with the way they ended that scene. She could wind up happy or verrrry unhappy.

I think that Madison could have grown more. From the assault in the first episode to her crying in the shower, she grew. It would have taken a while for her to not be a royal bitch but I liked her. Maybe it's because I have always liked the actress.

Didn't anyone learn anything from Practical Magic? When they come back, they are never the same.

I really liked last season of American Horror Story (Asylum) but after watching just the first episode of this season I'm really disappointed. The first episode was just disgusting to me. The opening scene was just fucked up, the rape scene needlessly drawn out and overall it pissed me off that to them it seems it's ok to show explicit torture of black slaves and a prolonged gang rape scene of a female character...but when it comes to rapists dying in a bus crash or a murdering/torturing slave owner being buried alive they barely show a thing. I don't really care to see anyone dying, but it says something about the way the writers/directors see things.

Then making the one black character the human voodoo doll (seriously??), and having another girl's "magical power" being to basically only have the power to kill men if she forces unwanted sex on herself.

After that I didn't really care to watch any of the other episodes... But did it get any better after that first episode?

I never saw the first season of "American Horror Story" but I did really enjoy last season. So far I think "Coven" is incredible. Great writing and acting. Yes, it does get a little explicit and cross some questionable lines but overall, it works and doesn't come off as gratuitous, which takes serious talent from the writers and actors alike.

I am a true fan of AHS. Coven is a delight to my twisted senses. I watch it because it IS disgusting and way off the charts regarding fear and horror.

I think a school for young witches is a mastermind.

I loved the opening of ep 1 when we are taken down to her basement.

I love that she ends up being a maid.

I love the skillful subplot of supreme coming to her senses about her daughter

I love the voiceless butler dancing in his room in a woman's nightie, having a tea party with his dolls, and the dead Madison

I LOVE Queenie and the gal with MR...(cant remember her name and she isnt even listed on the AHS web page!)

I dont get why the sewed up guy is such a small part of this season

and I love love love "Stevie Nicks" is such a big part of it!

I have to get better at using the save the fav thread function. I missed the entire discussion. I am very good however, at prerecording everything I watch so I don't watch commercial for this or any program.

For me the first season of AHS will always reign supreme. I can remember watching the first episode of the first season, I would watch by myself, late at night in the living room. Somehow when I watch in the bedroom with the door closed it feels safer. Anyway, just the first few notes of the theme song would strike terror into my soul. Silly right. The strange part of this affection for season one is that it is not in line with my view on horror. I do not find the paranormal scary at all, in fact the only theme that strikes any true terror is one containing a human; like a serial killer. People as maniacal beings, that threat is real. So why on earth I found a haunted house theme so scary is beyond me. I did though. I assume it starts with the writing, the filming, directing and the acting just somehow working together. The tone of the show was like a picture of a tastefully done room with just a glimpse(if you used your peripheral vision) of the flamboyant. More of a suggestion. I certainly find some very benign scenes in older movies to be incredibly sexy compared to the counterpart's ability to use nudity and lewdness to tempt which should be more satisfying but isn't. They used normalcy foiled with the absurd to confuse us and keep us guessing. It was also a new take on an old genre and they nailed it. I think that is part of why I enjoyed season one so much. I could not argue that is was a better story line or that it was uber scary, it just holds that place in my heart.

AHS: I was very hesitant to watch, but my friends continued on and convinced me to give it a try. Thankfully season 1 was great, cuz if season 2 was the first, it most likely it would have ended there for me.
Season 2 was dreadfully painful.

But Season 3, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange... need I say more, but I will. ;)
AMAZING .. great story line. The ugly history of slavery (there was nothing nice about it) and women seen as (or perceived as) second class, will always strike a cord. It's unpleasantry, it's inhuman, the mystic, and triumphs.
adding to superb acting.

I can't begin to imagine where they will go with S4.
