View Full Version : What is Your Television Lineup?
Medusa

I was scrolling back through our dvr and kinda taking stock of how many shows we watch religiously.
What do you watch religiously every week (or every time it's on)?
Medusa
11-15-2011, 05:44 PM
I DVR all of the following:
Project Runway
Project Accessory
Work of Art
Design Star
Hoarders
The Walking Dead
Saturday Night Live
That is the extent of what I watch on television. Right now, Project Runway and Design Star are not on so I now know that I watch 5 hours of television a week (most always while doing other things)

Since I've gone from getting up at O'dark to OO'darker, TV puts me to sleep quicker than anything. There are shows I'd like to watch and make the effort to, but never happens lately.
I do, however, stream some of the shows I miss when I'm not in tired mode.
I will always stream, NCIS and would like to be able to watch Leverage, but can't find it to stream. Other than those shows, it's up for grabs depending on what's on TV any given night before I fall asleep. I do like Grimm, but have only seen the opener.
You just reminded me! I've been wanting to check out that "American Horror Story"!
Is it good?
Yes I love it! Jessica Lang plays my favorite character.

There is a show called Extreme Couponing???? If it's competetive, Venus007 needs to get on there.
I only watch TV on Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Sometimes i buy DVD's, but i do not have cable or satellite. Still, i watch plenty.
Right now, the only shows i wait for to hit online are new episodes of Supernatural, Bones, and Sons of Anarchy.
i love but can wait for NCIS, Castle, In Plain Sight, Burn Notice, and Tru Blood.
i watch old episodes of all kinds of things. i bought the complete series of The Wire when i got my new job. i am in season three right now. Sometimes it gets inside my head, that world, and i need to take a break from it. i find myself talking like i am from Balmoah (Baltimore).

Does anyone else watch this show?
It is kind of, shall I say, rather risqué for regular cable.
It is also flat out funny at times. It is about a bunch of friends-guys and one (token) woman- that form a fantasy football league every season.
It is on FX. I think Thursday nights but since I DVR everything, I never watch anything the day it is on. I hate commercials so wait till I can fast forward through them.
Second season on now, 1st season is on Netflix. So far, I think the 1st season was the best for lol moments.

We have a standing date every week night for Jeopardy. Other than that if we watch anything it is hit or miss.
Storage Wars - when something mindless is desired
Without a Trace
Criminal Minds
Harry's Law - just started dvring, will find time to watch
Bones - I should dvr this too
My honey likes to watch Judge Judy, Maury, Jerry Springer, etc whenever life feels a bit odd. He says these shows make him feel 'normal'. LOL

1. Any documentary dealing with the weird, wonderful, or gruesome.
2. Antiques/auction shows.
3. The Real Housewives of New York City (are those women for real?)
1. I won't miss, 2. I'll watch if I've nothing better to do, and 3. I'll watch only because everyone needs a vice of some sort so this might as well be mine.
Apart from that, I'm not a huge TV watcher and will have it on simply for background noise while I do something 'constructive'.

I've not been that thrilled with the past two seasons of Mad Men and after that stupid storyline about Roger's daughter running off to join a hippy cult, I'm done!! REALLY????????? She'd run off and leave the charmed life she always lived, I think NOT!!!!! Sorry writers I have better stuff to do with my time.

The Walking Dead season 8
I was looking for a thread on this site to post in it,couldn't find one.:sigh:
We should start one.
Did you know that the first season started on a October 31st, 2010?!
It kind of blew my mind watching that first episode and I was hooked.
I did not watch all episodes last season.
Negan really upset me and his level of violence against humans that I had grown to care about; really, really, bothered me.
I am hoping that he gets his, this season.

I also watched the very first episode, and still today, totally hooked.Rick's group has been through so many heartaches and dealing with one asshole after the next.
I hate every bone in Negan's body, lol. You know he's going to get his.
I know this show is based on a comic, but I never read it. I prefer the show.
I'm just a die hard fan.I played both video games and bought all the memorabilia crap.

My BFF daughter is hopelessly devoted to this TV show! LOL
It's like an night time soap opera: she can recite every evil deed Neegan has committed since day one of the TV show's inception. She loves this show as much as I loved and was an devoted fan to General Hospital, LOL :giggle:
I would love it if you all decided to devote an forum thread to ....
The Walking Dead.... I'd read it daily, just like an Ann Landers or Dear Abbey advice column or even Peanuts or Blondie in the Sunday Comic's section of the newspaper. :balloon:

Yes, I want to do some sleuthing first, to make sure that there is not a hidden Walking thread and then, if there isn't one; will do.
I do not read the comics either. I have been tempted when Amazon has had some good prices on several as a package but I don't really want to know what will happen next.
Do you watch Fear the Walking Dead?
I think that it was really good this season. I did not like the first season at all.
Nick irritated the hell out of me but his character has greatly improved this season...

So many great shows.
I am enjoying and appreciating Being Serena. It is a documentary about the terrific Serena Williams. It's on Wednesday nights on HBO. I think I just finished episode 3. It includes her pregnancy, her marriage and coming back from almost dying after a pulmonary embolism following the emergency C-section of the baby. What an athlete!
I think Westworld is amazing. Last season I did not totally "get" what was going on. I do now but don't know where it is headed! Sunday nights, HBO. Oh, Silicon Valley. An absolute crack-up but I think this past Sunday was the end of this season.
On Showtime, new shows Vida and Sweetbitter. Also, I love Billions. Fantastic show. All on Sunday nights.
Wednesday nights on FX, the last season of the terrific show The Americans. I think Atlanta is terrific, too, but think last Thursday was the end of the season.
I've recorded a bunch of the critically acclaimed show Killing Eve on BBC America but haven't started them yet.
The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu. Scary, dystopian view of a god-fearing, right-wing, USA but excellent. Streaming each Wednesday.
Yes, I watch a lot of TV.

Dietland on AMC ...
AMC’s Dietland, developed by Marti Noxon, follows Alicia “Plum” Kettle, a plus-sized woman who finds herself mixed up in a tangle of feminist revolutionaries, cutthroat fashion executives, and terrorists, all while going a journey of self-discovery. The show is broadly faithful to Sarai Walker’s 2015 novel, but it adds a few new characters and revamps plot elements in ways that make Dietland more workable as a serial story.
I've never read the book, but so far I'm enjoying the series very much!

From YouTube:
Director Ava DuVernay’s short-form film entitled “August 28: A Day in the Life of a People” will make its national television debut on Tuesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. Starring Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Regina King, David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, André Holland, Michael Ealy and Glynn Turman, DuVernay’s 22-minute scripted film uses a robust combination of both documentary and narrative techniques to transport viewers through six stunning historical moments that all actually occurred on the same day in various years.
Written, produced and directed by DuVernay, “August 28” traverses a century of black progress, protest, passion and perseverance of African-American people. The project gives historical perspective within the creative framework of one date that has had a profound effect on America including: the passing of The Slavery Abolition Act on August 28, 1833, the lynching of Emmett Till on August 28, 1956, the first radio airplay from Motown Records on August 28, 1961 with The Marvelettes “Please Mr Postman,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech during the massive March on Washington on August 28, 1965, Hurricane Katrina making its tragic landfall on August 28, 2005 and then-Senator Barack Obama’s acceptance of the Democratic nomination for the presidency on August 28, 2008.

Home is where heart is, but sometimes it’s also where your forced to go back to. In the case of sisters Emma (Mishel Prada) and Lyn (Melissa Barrera) on the new Starz series Vida, that place is Eastside of Los Angeles. It’s in this setting that the two estranged sisters find themselves back in after the tragic death of their mom and, like all good television, the tragedy opens up a whole new set of problems, while also giving us some much-needed representation for queer Latin women.
As Starz describes it” “Vida is a half-hour drama series focusing on two Mexican-American sisters from the Eastside of Los Angeles who couldn’t be more different or distanced from each other.” When they’re forced to return home, “they are confronted by the past and surprising truth about their mother’s identity.”

Stars: Matthew Rhys as Perry Mason
Set in 1932 Los Angeles, the series will focus on the origin story of famed defense lawyer Perry Mason, based on characters from Erle Stanley Gardner’s novels. Living check-to-check as a low-rent private investigator, Mason is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and suffering the effects of a broken marriage.
L.A. is booming while the rest of the country recovers from the Great Depression — but a kidnapping gone very wrong leads to Mason exposing a fractured city as he uncovers the truth of the crime.

Gentleman Jack is a period drama based on the real life of landowner and industrialist Anne Lister. Based on her diaries, which revealed a lifetime of lesbian relationships, the show was hugely well-received by fans and critics alike.
Filming began in late 2020, and in May 2021 a behind-the-scenes image was shared on Instagram. However, the show’s star Suranne Jones also shared an update from her Instagram account at the end of April, saying that there was a break in filming in summer 2021.
There’s no release date yet and the show is still in production. Given the break in filming, and with at least another two months’ worth to go, I wouldn’t expect the new season to be shown until sometime in 2022.

Many Saints of Newark......
Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark's history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his nephew will help make the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we'll later come to know: Tony Soprano.

I read the book a few years ago and didn't find it that memorable but the series blew me away. It was so thoughtfully done- I've never cried so much from a show, ever. I loved the ambiguity of which characters were "good" or "bad" and what that even means in the human experience. Highly recommend.

Shortly after the revival was announced, it was revealed that Sam Waterston would be stepping back into the shoes worn by Jack McCoy all those years ago. Waterston, who is the second-longest tenured actor on the show at 16 seasons (S. Epatha Merkerson played Lt. Anita Van Buren for 17), isn't the only familiar face coming back.
Anthony Anderson, who joined the Law & Order cast part-way through Season 18, will also be returning to the show as Detective Kevin Bernard. There hasn’t been word on any of Waterston and Anderson’s former co-stars will be joining them. Camryn Manheim will be taking on the role of Lieutenant Kate Dixon. Manheim made several one-off appearances on Law & Order over the years. Odelya Halevi will portray Assistant District Attorney Samantha Maourn.

Gaslit ensemble is spearheaded by Julia Roberts and Sean Penn. Roberts is Martha Mitchell, "a celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell," who's described by the Starz synopsis as "a big personality with an even bigger mouth. Despite her party affiliation, she’s the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, causing both the Presidency and her personal life to unravel.”
I am so looking forward to this! My only reservation is Roberts as the lead!

Gentleman Jack HBO
Why did they call her Gentleman Jack?
The title is actually a reference to the name Lister was given during her life by her neighbours, who ridiculed her appearance and sexual preferences – with the 'Gentleman' referring to her masculine appearance and 'Jack' being another word for 'lesbian' in that era(May 8, 2022).
Gentleman Jack's lesbian love story of Anne Lister and Ann Walker is a true tale centuries ahead of its time. And to think we would have never known the reality if it wasn't for Lister's love of a good (albeit coded) diary.
Before and after GJ, we're re-watching The Gilded Age.
The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems, and of huge fortunes made and lost. Against the backdrop of this transformation, HBO’s The Gilded Age begins in 1882 with old money vs new money families for social status and the like!

61 Street: Courtney B. Vance Aunjanue Ellis
Moses Johnson, a promising Black high school athlete, gets swept up in the Chicago criminal justice system when he is arrested as a supposed gang member after an officer dies during a drug bust gone wrong. Franklin Roberts, who has promised his wife that he will retire as a public defender, takes on Johnson's case because he recognizes its potential to upend the entire Chicago judicial system, challenging the institutional racism and endemic corruption at its heart.
The series was informed by deep research into the city's history, as well as the personal experiences of executive producer-writer J. David Shanks, who grew up as a young Black man on the South Side and later became a Chicago police officer before entering the world of film and TV.
We started to binge watch previous episodes On Demand. New episodes are added each Sunday.
