As I sit here thinking about the holidays and what that entails, I can't help but think about some of my past memories of the holidays when I was a kid, a teen and as an adult. So I thought it would be kinda cool to share one of my favorite memories and hope that others will join in and share theirs...
I guess I was about ten years old and my family was living in Phoenix. Mom was a single parent and we didn't have a lot of money but we had love and imagination... The money we did have was to go on a few small gifts and food to celebrate the season. As for the decorations and the tree, well this is where creativity came into play. Mom had collected scraps and odds & ends all year long and we all sat around with our crafty selves and made all our decorations. We had the fire in the fireplace going, carols playing in the background and mom, myself and my three siblings had the best time ever. We wound up making this huge scene on the wall above the fireplace. Santa and his sleigh with all the reindeer flying by a winter wonderland of a town lit up with lights and snowmen off to one side and the nativity scene off to the bottom right corner with the wise men in the distance. It was a really unique and bazaar depiction of combining the religious aspect with the commercial but it was really amazing!! Mom had a natural talent with watercolors, charcoals and pastels and wow did that scene glow by the light of the fireplace!! I can still hear all our laughter and singing and still smell the tree, the fire and the taste of the cookies and cocoa. I miss those days when we were all together and wish I had pictures to remind me of them but the images that are forever etched in my mind are as clear as if it was just yesterday.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings all around!! :smileyXmasTree:
