This is the sixth track off Madrugada's Industrial Silence (1999) album:
They're a Norwegian alternative rock band. The name of their band is curiously interesting to me too.
I read that "Madrugada" is both Portugese and Spanish, and translates roughly to the blue hour (dawn)
and was suggested as a name for their band by, a poet/writer friend, Øystein Wingaard Wolf.

Devo's - Workin' in a Coal Mine was very popular
for those of us in beauty school.... we lived for
Saturday nights, so we could sleep in on Sunday.

We listened to a lot of tunes by Devo, Spandau Ballet, The B-52's, Culture Club, The Cocteau Twins...
as well as, Jesus and The Mary Chain.

Frou Frou's song comes to mind, when I think about passionate qualities of music- elements of music played or the effect of a strand of lyric or both or more... music liberates me, frees me, takes me places I've not fully experienced... (I like this song a lot, Imogene's voice)

'Black Boys on Mopeds'

Margaret Thatcher on TV
Shocked by the deaths that took place in Beijing
It seems strange that she should be offended
The same orders are given by her

I've said this before now
You said I was childish and you'll say it now
Remember what I told you:
If they hated me they will hate you

England's not the mythical land of Madame George and roses
It's the home of police who kill black boys on mopeds
And I love my boy and that's why I'm leaving
I don't want him to be aware that there's
Any such thing as grieving

Young mother down at Smithfield
5 am, looking for food for her kids
In her arms she holds three cold babies
And the first word that they learned was "please"

These are dangerous days
To say what you feel is to dig your own grave
Remember what I told you:
If you were of the world they would love you

England's not the mythical land of Madame George and roses
It's the home of police who kill blacks boys on mopeds
And I love my boy and that's why I'm leaving
I don't want him to be aware that there's
Any such thing as grieving.

"I'll let a train be my feet if it's too far to walk to you
And if a train don't go there
I'll get a jet or a bus

And my head is my only house unless it rains"

*Lyrics*

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you...

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare, when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, 'touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, o my heart shies from the sorrow...

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing, 'swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you:
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you...

We've lived in bars
And danced on the tables
of hotels, trains and ships that sail
We swim with sharks
and fly with aeroplanes in the air

Send in the trumpets
the marching wheelchairs
open the blankets and give them some air
swords and arches, bones and cement
the lights and the dark of the innocent men

we know your house so very well
and we will wake you
once we walk up all your stairs
there's nothing like living in the bottle
and nothing like ending it all for the world
we're so glad you will come back
every living lion will lay in your lap
the kid has a homecoming
the champion the horse
who's gonna play drums, guitar or organ with a chorus
as far as we've walked from both ends of the sand
never have we caught a glimpse of this man

we know your house so very well
and we will bust down your door if you're not there

We've lived in bars
and danced on tables
of hotels, trains and ships that sail
we swim with sharks
and fly with aeroplanes
out of here
out of here

Loved that song by Harper Simon (Wishes and Stars): it reminds me of a song by James Walsh (Starsailor). I think it's the style of acoustic guitar tracks, and lyrics between the two songs,
that caused me to think of song by James Walsh.

And, I do love to hear songs by Ray LaMontange.

I think Cat Stevens voice, the way he plays guitar, and the kind of ballads he does, is very nearly much like that of the style of Ray LaMontange.

It reminds me of this MJ Cole featuring Jill Scott remix, because of the vocals, and because both tunes take me back to a certain time and place in my life and make me smile!

In 2003 I went to an all day festival at Knebworth with a dear friend (crazy that was 10! years ago now). My friend was really into Robbie Williams, he's not really my cuppa, but it was a gorgeous day and the grounds are beautiful I went along unaware of the rest of the line up - I was soooooo excited when I heard Diane's voice. She's incredible!

I love that song by Roy Ayers as much as I love Sunshine :stillheart:
(I miss summer, it wasn't long enough for me this year)

Have you ever heard of the indie folk artist, Laura Veirs?
I came across her song, "Sun Song," one day last spring.
It's not the same kind of song, nor does it have the same vibe
as Roy Ayers', "Everybody Loves Sunshine," song, but it came to mind first -
out of all the songs about sunshine that I like to listen too.

hmmmmm, I know my grandmother used to say that when it was time for her to go 'home', the "great spirit in the sky" would take her up in the clouds and she'd float home....

I guess the song that comes to mind is more along the lines of a western cowboy, kind of thing. Like I could hear Lee Hazelwood's deep baritone voice and the spurs on his boots jingling...
