The awakening

Where do I know you from,
you beautiful thing?

The first morning caresses
motion;
Waking from their dreams
by supple change.

Wipe the sleep from those tired eyes.
March yourself
from your lengthy slumber
Come again.
Come again.

Cycle and tilt.
Let me see you,
Your essence
directs everything.

Quiescence
without wonder
of wondrous things.

Arise from darkness.

The cold chilled air is replaced.
The early evening has elapsed.

Marvel at the moment
all things,
surely dead
rise once
and again,
and again…

Wake and Dream

All senses heightened
each thought, each dream
conceived and carried
in a womb of time
concealed in hidden corners
of the mind.

This must be honest.
This must be an honest rendition.

On the hook now.
responsible.
outcome.
self.

I am sorry I showed up this way,
unannounced.

I am levitated,
moving,
crucified,
vindicated.

I want it to wake me.

I want to open my face to the sun,
to circumvent the leafless tree
swathed in a layer of ice,
decipher the unwritten
scriptures I’ve lost.

Wake if you dare.
Wake if you dare.

The ravens taunt me.
Their lure is deceiving
with song as sweet as
the lover’s first love note

It was a single hand
perched atop a bison
being charged by the clan
in the dead winter.

The message was clear.

Wake if you dare.
Wake if you dare.

Perch your hand atop
cataclysmal dreams.

Charge against the winter.
Charge against the air.
Fly together,
and wake me
if you dare.

Kaleidoscope

I studied the foundations of interpersonal communication.
I am aware of the intricate processes playing on secretly.
Each partner unaware of the sensitivity and
constant eye transfixed on the scale of
check and balance that keep a pair
together or entices on to leave.

She was showering when I heard a chuckle and then my name.
She smirks, proceeds to fan it all out, proud as a peacock’s tail.
“It’s a case of the shoemaker’s kids who have no shoes.”

I respond, eerily calm in the tedious moments
preceding a squall, “I feel like I am
being blamed.”

She postures and readies her reply, “That’s it. I quit.”
The air grew thick and solidified.

I spend the remaining afternoon researching
attachment styles, Myers-Briggs, and
relationship repair.

I witnessed the heart stopping wreck that totaled this car.
I felt the impact and the sting as the shards impaled me.

I frantically gather shattered glass, struggle to
glue the pieces back; yet all that remains
visible is a fractured image
multiplying this disjointed
skyline, mirroring
over and over,
the impetus
branding
my mind.

Doors

Opening with force

closing silently
or with calamity
sometimes opening
so quietly
so slowly
one strains to notice
the change.

The universe is expanding.
at record speeds.

There are concepts that change
more quickly than
light speed.

Terrifying infiniteness.
Nothing is insignificant.
Each thing is a link in the chain
of consequence-
Mind your way.

Peek through a keyhole?
It doesn’t work that way.
All doors lead to the same path
for everybody, does it matter the way?

“The pawns and the kings return to the same box
when the game is put away.”

Lead me to flowers in the spring.
Lead me to the music that rings.
Lead me to the sweet smells
that the fruits of labor
bring.

Stop!
A moment, please…

Let me leap into your arms.
Carry me over the thresholds
of change.
Be the link, the unwavering constant
despite infinite change.
