View Full Version : Eccentric Eaters!

I've been told by many a person that I am an eccentric eater. This could be because of something I am actually consuming, or even the way I am eating it. So i thought it would be fun to see how many of us are out there, and what our food quirks are. I will start :)

*I put sriracha on literally everything I consume, its a terrible habit and I am sure that it'll bite me somewhere down the line.

*I have cravings for saurkraut, just plain old kraut straight out of the jar!

*One of my favorite food combos is pickle spears dipped in ranch dressing.

Now, your turn! Have fun!

I have been told I am a bit eccentric and a picky eater lol
I put ketchup on almost everything, and I think it is a matter of how i eat things, some foods have to be cooked or done a certain way, in a certain order etc. One item i seem to get on occasions that makes everyone comment is a pizza sub from Subway, but I like lettuce and tomato on it *shrugs* lol

I have a subway thing too..the meatball sub, but with lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing. They always do a double take when I ask for ranch, I guess I do eat most anything with Ranch now that I think about it....ohs well :)

Carrots cooked until almost mushy or eaten raw and grated in a Salad…

Baked beans served in a bowl as a side dish, unless it’s Beans on Toast…

When eating fruits, I chew with my front teeth then push them up against the roof of my mouth to squeeze out the juice before eating properly…

I’ll eat Olives/Olive oil and Sun dried Tomatoes/Sun dried Tomato Pesto with most savoury dishes…

Sushi has to have Avocado and Spring Onion among the filling…

I eat vegan Cheese and Mustard Sandwiches when I’m sick…

Breakfast Cereals I eat with Apple Juice; Milk and Milk alternatives (except Rice Milk) turn my stomach just looking at them…

I have to really careful with what I eat. I cannot eat very much prepackaged foods. So, no cans of soup, no dried or freeze dried foods, no salad dressings, no cheese, no milk, no bread, very little butter, no peanut butter (:( )... and the list goes tiring-ly on.

But, to compensate for that, I have been given this ability to eat the same foods day and in day out without suffering consequential boredom.

Eating out is a challenge. I tend to go to places that make everything from scratch. But to avoid issues I don't go out much. I bring my own food for potlucks.

And I love saurkraut with cinnamon; potatoes with soy sauce... and I am sure I will come back with other oddities!!

Porridge (jumbo oats) made with water, salt, black pepper and butter.

I have a cupboard of hot sauces that I put on everything from toast to mac and cheese. Different sauces complement different foods. Tabasco goes with eggs, although not as well as magyar izek which I can't find anywhere. Bajun hot sauce is particularly good with black pudding and a touch of Jamaican scotch bonnet sauce good in pea and ham soup.

And I love saurkraut with cinnamon;

Saurkraut and Apple.

Saurkraut and grated vegan cheese on toasted Pumpernickel.

Saurkraut on Baked Beans.

Pickled Rad Cabbage with Potatoes and Mayo.

I'm not the only one with (con)fusion tastes with Saurkraut! LOL!

I can be quite the eccentric eater :). Sometimes when I go out to eat or even at someone's home (like a potluck), I find out what there will be to eat, and I bring my own stuff to add to my plate, kind of like "altered food" :D. For instance, I will bring vegetarian bacon in my purse to a meatcentric breakfast or great salad fixins' to add to a blah salad. Sometimes it's about keeping what I'm eating healthy and satisfying or bringing protein to a lack of decent vegetarian options. And sometimes it's just about adding my favorite ingredients to whatever is available :). People look at me weird sometimes but I'm used to that!

i have some weird ways of eating, definitely.. lol.

When i eat toast, i eat the crust first..Then i will literally separate that toast by peeling the top layer off of the bottom layer.. i will roll up the top layer, and eat it, and then i will roll up the bottom dry layer, and eat it..always in that order...

i am very much a texture girl.. if it's mushy, i can't eat it.. so i never boil veggies , i'll steam them or stir fry em... they have to have a crunch..

When i was growing up, one of my fave things to eat was peanut butter and sugar on bread.. (while i don't eat sugar anymore and MISS it lol) i would still eat this if i could.. sprinkle the sugar on top of the peanut butter, shake the excess off and yum, yum, yum.

i have SO many things i can share, so i'll be back lolol.

I am a cook with a toddler's palate, I can cook alot of upscale food that I would never put in my mouth. Give me kraft mac and cheese anyday, and I am a happy camper. I also prefer to eat out of a bowl, no matter what it is.

I love green olives inside a grilled cheese sandwich. Pickle slices are an ok substitute if olives are not available.

Ketchup on kielbasa, which is practically a mortal sin in my mother's eyes.

Frozen organic berries, straight out of the bag and not thawed. I often mix them frozen in a bowl of fat-free vanilla yogurt as an ice cream substitute.

Green bananas. I can't eat them once they lose all the green. The more green, the better.

I do that with my toast too!! And I LOVE peanut butter and sugar on toast. I have it nearly every day and never get tired of it..yum yum

Other than that, there isn't really a lot of food that I actually like. It makes it tough when I go to things like weddings or banquets. I have to hope there's at least one thing that I can stomach. If I could just take a pill that would give me the nutrition that I need and I wouldn't be hungry, that would be good with me.

I love fresh white bread. I take one or two slices and remove the edges , then take the soft center and squish it all together into a ball and eat it---yum. Yea, I'm really into healthy eating.

I'm not sure if it would qualify as "eccentric" but I love to eat raw chili, including some of the strong varieties (i.e. scotch bonnet). However, I found out the hard way not to eat them in the office anymore as, quite simply, I often cannot speak for a minute or so after eating one.

I won't eat tomato or tomato flavoured foods. yeeeeuch! Be hence ye flavour of the Devil's gonads!

I won't eat fruit unless it's sour...rhubarb and sour citrus only.

Marmite and cream cheese (and hot sauce of course) on toast

Haggis, hot English mustard and horseradish

Like Ciaran I eat raw chilli...pickled too as a high flavour snack.

Can also eat a whole head of garlic...raw. I have no sense of smell and therefore a dulled sense of taste which means I can barely taste garlic. Eating a whole head of garlic is not a good idea if you want to be able to be sociable for the next week. :|

I love cheese rinds. I know...go figure!

I'm sure I'll be back again...

Oh god I love cheese too. Especially really strong cheeses. None of these mild bland blah cheeses but the really strong knock your socks off type. Then pair that with some Branston pickle on a cracker. Yum.

I like to put my cold salad on top of food like rice and beans or chicken. If I eat a steak I want my slaw smothered on top. I love this mixed together. My sister can't stand anything touching and rolls her eyes at me.

My favorite snack is really crusty bread and dip it in extra virgin olive oil. I can eat this almost any time of day.

As a child, I HATED to eat any kind of meat and would happily eat my vegetables instead. Even now, meat is ok, but i'm not a huge fan.

I don't own a single canned food, nor have I ever. I see the economics for people with kids, but i'm one person and HATE the taste of canned anything, especially vegetables.

I have no milk or milk products in the house, because i'm severely allergic. When I go to a friend's house or conference, I have to drink coffee black if there is only half and half available.

On the rare occasion I eat a breakfast cereal, it's as a dessert, because they are so sweet. I have oatmeal for breakfast, or an egg.

I don't drink soda at home, ever and never buy it. If i'm at a restaurant however, I will drink it, cause, why not?

I don't eat frozen dinners and I cook for myself just about every day.

I'm supposed to emphasize foods that are relatively high in salt, because I have very low blood pressure (inherited condition) but I really don't like or crave salty foods. I don't eat chips and I don't have a salt shaker, for the same reason.

I cook Quaker Quick Oats, after cooking I add sugar, milk and I take a couple of slices of bread and pull it apart and mix it all together. My grandma used to do that when I was little and I continue to do it today. Also, I like to eat saltine crackers with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese and a slice of red hot sausage (pickled in the red juice) and eat them together.

Not sure if this is a Kiwi thing; Cheese and creamed Corn Toasties.

I love brown Rice and will only eat white Rice if there is no brown Rice on offer.

I love wholewheat Pasta.

The only white bread I like is Italian and French, otherwise I eat wholemeal and dark Rye breads.

Aubergine skin reminds me of the skin texture of Dolphins :| ...I cannot eat Aubergines for that reason.

Mushrooms are just plain revolting!

I think I've developed some truly disgusting eating habits due to being single and living alone.

One of the worst is... if I have spinach in the house, I'll eat each leaf individually with my hands, dipping it in a little bowl of Italian dressing.

I'll also just eat beans out of the can, if I really cannot be arsed for whatever reason.

I love raw Spinach (any green salad leaves) with and Olive oil and Balsamic Vinegar dressing or a Honey and Mustard dressing. I only like Mayonnaise on my Salads when there’s fruit in it.

Hahaha...being single does have a tendency to do that. I used to love cold canned corn and thousand island dressing. And sometimes, yes, I ate the corn straight from the can and then dipped my fork into the dressing. Other times I wouid drain the can, get a bowl, then add the dressing. Either way it was pretty lazy of me.

I hate cooking!

The Ultimate No Hangover Sandwich.

2 Pieces of Toast
Peanut Butter
Hard Fried Egg
Cheese
Hot Sauce

Spread Peanut Butter on toast then layer egg and cheese and smother with hot sauce. This is called 'THE LUMP".

While Im not too far fetched in my eating habits, I do enjoy eating some things "my way" or over indulge in certain things.

Sriracha on EVERYTHING.
Kim Chi right out of the jar
Jalapenos raw or out of the jar in one sitting
Pickled okra
I love to pile food inside cabbage leaves, roll up and eat them.
(mostly chicken and veggies)

I prefer to eat with a spoon versus a fork. Its just funner for me. Unless, of course I can eat the meal with my fingers hahaha.
