I miss my grandfathers.

Papa had so many stories about trains, railroads, the war, earlier years in Astoria Oregon, mining and he loved to sound like a geologist...

Grandpa Charlie had wonderful stories about early life in Arizona, how he met my Grandma Mary when he broke his leg (she was his nurse), our Native American family history, and the families he helped through his Spanish translations at the hospital in Tucson.

I miss fishing too!! I am buying double pole licenses for both Oregon and Washington (hopefully Washington has this option too) this year. I am totally jazzed! Me, my neighbors and friends are going to eat well this year! My four fishing poles are all varying shades of pink, as well as my Ladyfish 3600 soft tackle kit and Fisher Girl baseball cap. But I'm not telling anyone about that, okay? Oh, or the hot pink PowerBait. Shhh....

My mom's two very sweet doggies... such love bugs, may they rest in peace

Camping trips

My Impala

Skinny dippin in lake Mumaw

Free time to meditate and just be

A time when lupus didn't affect my sexual flexibility and mood

Lake Clator and the time shared there

Brown eye Susan's in my Gramma's garden

Christie teaching me to make jam and other goodies

Time spent with Gramma D in her kitchen

Being able to eat all the food and ice cream I wanted without fear of food allergies or my 'over 40' metabolism

And that High feeling that passion, infatuation, love and ecstasy gives me
..I wish I could bottle that energy and feeling for tired moments like tonight

This is very true for me as well... I have not been able to truly enjoy walking on the beach for a very long time... this is because I have gone to the beach so often just to be near my mother... her ashes were strewn on the east coast... It is wonderful yet bittersweet...

I am hoping that I can rekindle that joy on the west coast... not that I wont be thinking of her...

I miss:
Being in love
Sharing simple mundane conversations with someone who cares.
Intelligent debates

I miss hearing,
"your turn to cook and I'll clean the kitchen."
"why can't you just squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom?!"
"Assume the position, girl!"
"Who's your Daddy?"
"You washed my cock in the washer again?!!"

I miss:
Flowers being sent to work for no other reason than "I love you"
Him lying in bed, patting his chest to signal for me to scooch over and snuggle with him
Him laughing and groaning when I couldn't remember the punch line of one of my goofy jokes and telling me I shouldn't tell jokes
Working in the garden as a team, he digs, I plant.
Him ribbing me about being a TRUE blonde

I miss intimate moments when he understands my body better than I do.

Because pain, disability and chronic exhaustion prevent me from enjoying myself... I miss:

deeply intimate moments
after-sex treats and cool down time
the after-sex glow (instead of pain)
cooling down, then my partner working me up again, then the second round being even more aggressive and passionate
being incredibly flexible and experimental with new positions
leg muscle stamina
knees that didn't feel like broken glass when straddling my partner
skin that didn't feel nerve pain when touched
the look on my partner's face and the sounds they make when they are totally into the moment and I can tell they are completely satisfied and turned on
and I miss being told that I'm the best they've ever had, how they love that I'm an amazing lover when I take care of their every need and desire...and how they are so totally crazy about how flexible, inventive and passionate I am.
I miss pain free passion and pain free emotional connections.
the Fire I once had
I miss a time when disability didn't rob me of intimacy and other things I enjoy.
I miss a time when my mind could cope with loss.

I miss:
those long summer nights....playing at til the absolute last moment
I miss: chasing fireflies and catching them in jars..
I miss: hanging up in the limbs of those weeping willow trees
I miss: being able to leave your doors unlocked and windows open all night..to catch that summer breeze...and BE SAFE doing so!
I miss: those lazy days....idling away the hours, fishing on the creeks..using a cane pole, a piece of fishing line, a bent safety pin with a piece of spam or a biscuit as bait..catching those huge catfish...cleaning them on the river bank and cooking them in a huge old cast iron skillet right there on the bank.....rolling them in cornmeal seasoned with some salt and pepper...ahh I can still taste fresh catfish. caught in unpolluted waters...
I MISS: the simplicity and innocence of youth...unencumbered by cell phones and computers
I miss: when your best friend was actually your best friend....
I miss: fresh picked tomatoes out of my granny's garden
I miss: penny candy that was actually a penny...going into the little neighborhood store with a quarter......getting a small brown paper sack, filling it up with squirrel nut zippers, tootsie rolls, pkgs. of sixlets, sweet tarts, bubble gum, kit kats, and oh so many more...and feeling like a rich King...with all that wonderful booty.
I miss: family reunions up in the mountains where several hundred people gathered...to dine, visit, and share quality time...when people actually talked...
I miss: that simplistic, honest, and wholesomeness of yesteryear...

...fall in New England. I liked a page on facebook called "VisitNH - New Hampshire" and locals have been posting pictures of the fall foliage on there. It made me cry.

I grew up in Sterling, Massachusetts, a little town north of Worcester. My grandparents had a huge oak tree in front of their house (it's still there) and the amount of leaves it would drop seemed endless. Fall as a kid meant jumping in the leaves my siblings and I spent all day raking up just for a few minutes of fun. Then grandpa would eventually burn them. There is no smell like jumping in the leaves and the neighborhood all burning their leaves. When I smell ylang-ylang it takes me to that head-space for a second.

Fall in Tennessee isn't the same.

my innocence
the feel of childhood when there was no pressure, only opportunities to play, to find new adventures
family members: my older sister, Kim; my grandmothers and grandfathers; my great aunts and great uncle
North Carolina, the sights and smells of home
Spending time with my dad-- sitting quietly, watching tv, not saying a word and feeling as though we had the BEST time together doing absolutely nothing-- I enjoyed every moment of it and look forward for the chance to do that again
Watching my nephews grow up-- I wanna see those little boys become young men all over again and again and again
Long, slow, deep, meaningful kisses; holding hands and tracing my thumb along the backs of her knuckles... "Her", wherever she is, when I find her
my grandmother's chicken casserole and home-made brittle fudge-- the recipes were lost with her passing
music, the rush of performing on stage or on the football field during marching band performances
feeling as though there's a point to the chaos we call life

as a very youngin I remember my mother dressing me in foo foo tights ruffle across the bum pretty shoes and some sort of ruffle crap dress, she got me dressed before herself and well off I went out to the forest walking across a fallin tree across river and in I went! Picking up the phone and just calling people when we think of them. I feel like so much drama and emotional damage covers all the great support people could give each other. I miss just picking up the phone and talking about everything, I miss those people.

I miss my Dad's love of NCAA 🏈. We used to make our own picks for each bowl game. Back then there was only 15 bowl games, there are 40 now.

I miss back when it really meant something when your team went to a bowl game. Of the 15 games 7 were the most prestigious. Cotton, Sugar, Rose, Gator, Orange Peach,Fiesta.

The food in Cuba.
Best food I've ever had. The veg tasted even better than the veg outta my nan's garden. The fish caught that morning, the chicken killed that day... no need for sauces and heavy spices to drown out the card board I realise I eat for food. No wonder I eat so much hot sauce and salt.

I never once used salt there.
I ate farm fresh, with fantastic home cooking style.

I just miss Cuba so much this week. The people, their style, their incredible talents/intelligence, the food, the weather, the pace. <3

Imperfect Cupcake, why did you leave Cuba? It sounds like a wonderful place to live.

1) Great food
2) Pretty beaches
3) Neat restored cars
4) Free healthcare
5) Affordable living
6) Representative government by committee

Why would you want to become an ex-pat, please don't use that exile

oh I only went for a holiday, I didn't grow up there.

I talked to a LOT of cubans there about growing up there, their history.. we hired a local guide - a kid about 25 who graduated Uni locally and was into history and poli-sci. So we asked so many questions from everyone we met. We wanted to know everything, how people lived, felt, grew up - how things have changed over time... how people were educated, got health care, the nations cuba traded with - *everything*.
What's this? this? and this over here??
I'm not a beach person. I want to know about the people, the culture, the history, their dance, art, food, ethos, politics - especially the politics.

I talked to everyone I could, I went to as many museums as I could, I hired the guide, I asked for reading recommendations from cubans about cuba - in *their* words from those who stayed and lived there.

It's a complicated answer - historically. But in the last 15 years, people don't want to leave, not permanently. They know they have a good thing - they just want to move around, see stuff, get away from the embargo a bit, and to do that they marry out. Usually Canadians. Then if they have kids, they come back to cuba for the kid to be born and spend its first 2-3 years.

Then the kid is Cuban. And entitled to all things Cuban. But with access to Canadian life and citizenship.

Personally I can't think of a luckier fuckin' kid.

I pretty much found the same when I was there in 2011. At that time, 70% of Cubans were born after 1959 and didn't want to leave permanently. They wanted to travel freely, but they wanted to return to Cuba. I would love to go again.

I miss my sister so very much. You'd think I'd be used to not having her after seven years, but I'm not.

One of her daughters had the blues recently and called me. Among other things, I said she should come and visit your aunty for a week or two. She laughed and said you sound like mama. And she's right—that's exactly what my sister would say.

Wishing she was here to offer me that invitation.
