Boxes! Not packing boxes, but rather old wooden cigar boxes, an unopened deck of cards, those tin boxes used for band-aids, old small antique boxes, any box that is somewhat small, but substantial. I just really like the way they fit, and feel in my hands.
Antique radios. I restore them and love the look and feel of them. I can't really explain my draw to them. It is as though they once held such an important job. They were the only source of communication and entertainment for quite some time. I feel as though they should be honored. Restoring them, is my way of doing so.

I love to can and that isn't a secret. Sure I do it for the healthy food, fun with friends, the zen of the process, the mess, the pop of the seals. And really is all about the jars. Clear glass canning jars. I can appreciate the old tinted ones, even the fancy quilted patterned jam jars. But for me a plain ole 1/2 pint, pint, quart or half gallon jar makes me smile. They glitter all lined up on the shelf. Have so many uses and reuses. sigh... I'm gonna go line them up again just for fun now.
I'm obsessed with Serenity/Firefly. It's my ring tone and I watch the series once a month. :| I may need an intervention.
OMG I loved Firefly. I can't believe they canceled that show after one season, if it even was a full season. It was amazing. I so get your obsession. I could easily watch it once a month. I don't though. Hmmm? Maybe you do need an intervention. :tease:
Yard sales, flea markets, apartment sales, craig's list, wherever I can get stuff cheap. I buy things I plan to fix up. I have all these ideas about how I'm going to refurnish, refinish, redo something or make it into something else entirely. I love to shop at the Habitat store and also hardware stores where I can get cheap reject or returned paint called 'oops paint'. I collect all this stuff and if I finish one project every six months I'm lucky. I guess for me the fun is in the collecting and the planning.
Also i love to play RPGs.

Researching stuff on the internet. It can be anything, for anything.
I get so excited when I have a reason to go on consumer reports!
Recent examples: grass fertilizers, dog treadmills, a water pump for my car, investing for retirement, reverse osmosis sytems for the kitchen sink. I can spend HOURS upon HOURS researching stuff to determine the best choice for my purposes. Love it!
I even love searching for stuff for other people.

... .
I, too, have an obsession with small boxes! Preferably square or rectangular, the sharper the edges, the better. I do like some in other shapes, like hearts, but I'm very particular about them. My friends tease me about this constantly. The first time I shopped at Ikea and rounded the corner in the Marketplace where there was a 25-foot high wall of nothing but boxes, I almost passed out. LOL

I love boxes, too. I found a vintage box site on the Internet and OMG...the holiday boxes and year-round all occasion boxes are beautiful. I like to keep special boxes and store things in them from photographs to letters and cards.
I also am obsessed with ribbon. I mean the ribbon on a spool kind of ribbon (cloth - not gift ribbon). Grosgrain is my favorite. I lightly starch them and then use them to tie up cards by occasion and so forth. Of course, I guess that kind of ribbon could be used for a number of things now that I think about it.

Mine is the beach. I love everything about the beach from the salty sticky water to just walking it and enjoying the sunshine and beauty of it. I go as often as I can. I would love to go with someone but that never stops me and I will drive two hours to go walk it by myself just to get that feel good feeling to relax and enjoy. The world goes away when I am there.
My secret obsession is pocket watches and pocket knives. Since I was a little girl, I was always fascinated with my grandpa's pocket knife and pocketwatch!
I watched him cut his toenails with his, peel peaches, filet a fish, cut a hickory to whip me with when I was bad, cut tomatoes, pick his teeth, clean his fingernails, clean his pipe bowl, and pull splinters out. THAT knife was MultiPurpose, I tell you....who thought of "disinfecting" something way back then....yea...just "aged" myself.
I had a pocketwatch I was given when I graduated Nursing School BUT who knows where that went...lol.
I am now beginning to get a collection of awesome knives. My GF and I share our love for them...she got me a leather pouch with two really cool knives in it. The head is a 3D eagle's head...and handle is feathers...one is like 2 inches long and the other is like 3 inches long.
Can I just say I LOVE pocket watches and pocket knives..knives of any sort. I DO NOT care for those really big ones or really long ones...:)

I understand this.
For me, it's not the beach per se but, rather, rugged coast. Here in London, I want nothing more than to escape to the isolated beauty, the smell of open turf fire and the smiles that Glencolumbkille, on the hidden south west coast of Donegal, can bring.

And containers, yeah I have a container fettish. I like bowls, the boxes things come in (if they're nicely made) and a strange attraction to paper bags. I am not as bad as I used to be, if I can't find a use for the box it gets tossed.

Since it's unlikely that I'll ever meet anyone here and, of course, this is an entirely judgement-free-zone - I'll unload. I have an unhealthy Hello Kitty obsession. I see Hello Kitty crap in a store and I'm immediately drawn, and I stand there fondling the scented colored pencils until my wife comes over and then I say something like, can you believe people actually buy this garbage? But I have a box in my office where I keep my stash - the watch, the sparkly pink coin purse, the lip gloss, stickers, manicure set - nothing too large. But when I open the box, and everything is all glittery and pink - I feel so dirty, but soooo good. It's not something I'm proud of.
But I think my wife suspects. There was a set of Hello Kitty highlighters in my Christmas stocking last year. (Hello Kitty!? How funny - thank you!) So they're in my desk drawer, not in the box. But we never talk about it.

Oh my goodness!! You've hit the nail on the headdress - I never thought about it being an obsession until reading your post - I've taken a lot to work because no one else wanted to decorate - I have pieces stashed behind my couch, hidden in my closest, out in the garage - my house is so tiny there isn't enough room and I just keep buying.

Oh I forgot about the books, yeah I have a ton of those. I can't help myself every time I am in a bookstore I come home with an arm load. And I was on a first name basis with the UPS guy who delivered my Amazon orders. Yep, books would be another obsession.

I saw this in the threads and for some reason, only glib, non-serious answers came to mind. And I don't want to "dis" on anyone here. So first let me say I don't mean disrespect.
I am going to post the replies that came to mind.
"eating duct tape, it's delicious"
"putting lipstick on my nipples and dressing them in little bonnets*
"trying to eat my dinner while upside down in a headstand"
"if I told you, it wouldn't be secret anymore"
Let me give it more thought and come back later with a serious answer.
I enjoy reading the posts.

I collect nail polish colors that catch my eye.
I love scents. I put some of his cologne on me as to smell him all day.
I love giving cards. I could spend hours in a card isle reading them to find the perfect one.
I love jewelry. I buy and sell it. And want my own business learning to make my own.
I like to paint some of my body parts with a brush or roller <Yummy> and a print of my high heels, kisses etc... and transfer them onto a canvas. Only I know what the abstract is. I call it "femme art"
I used to collect play collars. Beautiful ones
Martial arts techniques and self defense strategies. I am always thinking of scenarios and ways that I would handle a situation.
Coca Cola memorabilia. I haven't collected nearly as much as I use to but I love the stuff! The red and white but more importantly the older ads. I have a shit-ton of the collector trading cards and want to get back into collecting more.
Also the old school Wacky Packages stickers. I have wanting to start a collection of those too and check then out online quite frequently.
Okay there's more but this is enough for now... Lol

When I was very young I used to love collecting unusual looking rocks but I think as the years go by I am starting to do without this obsession and new obsessions have become replacements! I have to admit that I still LOVE to pop bubble wrap but its kind of a rare treat for me :D
Here are my current obsessions in no particular order:
office supplies
re-doing roadside furniture (one day when I get my own house I would like to furnish an entire room with re-done roadside furniture, it should be fun)
anything antique or retro (this goes from really old books to mod fashion)
card making/bookmark marking/scrap booking
avant-garde and minimalist interior designing and art including Swedish interior
surrealist art
As you can see most of my 'obsessions' are tied with art or creativity in one way or another. I guess I am a art freak ...

Making up new titles for a few of them is sometimes what I do with song lyrics. I often change song lyrics to help me feel better. Kind of like putting a positive spin (in a backwards way) on whatever it is that needs correction.

I have a couple 'secret obsessions', lol:
I just discovered using capers in a summer recipe for a sandwich-type salad. OMG, so delicious.
I also discovered those tiny brownie-like cakes. Chocolate, and they melt in your mouth. You would never guess they are a health food, full of fiber that is good for you.
Sorry, no pictures. :jester:
But you can find them at any fine retailer specializing in healthy foods. I am hooked on both food items, so I am enjoying both during the rest of the summer weather.
