Sad huh?

Hey Cara :)

My partner lived in Seattle for some 16 years or so and Hy's always saying how similar the climate there is to the one we have here in the UK. Something about Seattle and the UK being on the same latitude (47 degrees, or thereabouts)?

So...is it raining? (It's been pouring down all day here.) I've been lucky. The two times I visited the weather was great but I've heard it can get pretty - and yes, that is, apparently, an understatement - wet.

It's a beautiful autumn day in Seattle. No grey or rain! (yet). I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for a year and can attest that the weather in the UK is similar. Edinburgh, however, was much windier, which made the winter months very cold.

That is just wrong. I was in London for a weekend this summer and met... well, actually now that I say that I realize I met lots of butches and femmes but none of them were couples.

Guess you gotta get out more, or at least say hello when you see them.

London's a bit different. O/our nearest gay bar, or what used to be our nearest gay bar (it's now closed), was some 20 miles away, and when W/we did go there, it was fully of very young androgenous types with a few little baby butches thrown in for good measure so W/we kind of gave up on it even before it closed down.

You're right though, W/we do need to get out more, even if it means going over to Brighton or up to London. W/we're just a little limited because of my daughter, but hey, perhaps W/we'll give it a try next time she's at respite care. It's certainly something worth thinking about.

Oh I go to London on a semi-regular basis (I am currently in Prague) ... and I love it. Been to Brighton once, loved it too *grins*

Every time I have been to London, I have 'seen' Butches and/or Femmes, albeit have not met any past a brief hello; I am not usually there long enough ... or for pleasure ... so that will limit 'my' meeting them.

Perhaps next trip I will make a post here and if it works out, people in London or around London would consider meeting for coffee (or tea :D).

As W/we told you before, B/both of U/us have tried to sign up several times over over the past six months or so but for some reason, W/we've not been approved. More annoying is the fact that the Admin. doesn't even bother to respond to my notes about it.

I saw it all, you are bad :D I went to answer your PM but you had been banned....

this was the reason i was banned - quote

"You have been banned for the following reason:
The last straw calling LB a twat

Date the ban will be lifted: Never"

.........the fact that i didnt actually call LB that word, for which language i would have certainly been banned, though his wife wasnt when she used it, doesnt seem to matter - hy actually called me a t--t and i pointed out that i said what i did in jest, just as did his wife - however, it does appear theres one rule for me and another rule for the "in crowd"

I knew when i posted it i would be banned because hy has been sending me threatening emails/pms for a long time, telling me to leave and what hy would do it i didnt - yet i havent actually done anything - people are leaving because they are fed up with the dictatorial way they are running the site and those who remain are just scared to speak their minds or of course there are those who need the support and dont get it elsewhere - it makes the owners and their supporters feel superior - talk about power corrupting - trouble with people like that is in the end, they get left in a sinking ship...................i prefer to be where theres no prejudice against transguys, older people etc, which many felt there was on that site, rightly or wrongly. I know i experienced a lot of hostility from certain parties and for no apparent reason except maybe being in a stable relationship and not into public slanging matches..............which they seem to relish on there. Anyway I wont be losing sleep over it - bedtime.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You rebel you.:)

I think you're right though. When I tried to sign up, I was asked to give a little info. so I told them a bit about U/us. And that, as they say, was it. When they didn't respond to my first attempt to sign up and my various notes with anything but a standard response about the activation queue or whatever I tried signing up under a different ID but no, still no joy, so I can only assume that they check IP addresses? Eventually, I called them on it and said that if there was a particular reason why they didn't want U/us on the site then would they at least have the decency to tell U/us what it was and that's when the 'correspondence' came to an abrupt end.

Anyway, sorry they treated you so badly. At the end of the day though it's their loss, not yours. Medusa and Jack are clearly passionate about making this place welcoming to everyone, - even us cranky, decrepit Brits;) - so I'm sure you'll be much happier here. And if you're not? Well, then it's your own bloody fault. LOL...

Hugs to you both,

J.

...............ya know, im far from the rebel, on sites im polite, respectful and accept others points of view - most people enjoyed the banter they had with me - maybe that's the problem, all the attention has to be on the owners and their cronies, plus if you dont hold the same views as them they take it as a personal attack. I feel its good to hear things from others perspective, gives you something to think about and i keep an open mind, as you know with the discussions we have had..............as for being racist, misogonist, sexist - the list goes on of things i am accused of...............its absolute rubbish. There are people on that site who have used absolute foul language, been offensive, threatening, called people C---ts even, its disgraceful, yet they are told "calm down" ...............me, i dont even get a chance to answer back when they have a go at me, im just banned, for life this time.............to be truthful, i was only remaining on there because of their attitude towards me, over the last 6 mths the owners and their hangers on have become very unpopular with many people, so much so, the posts are getting less frequent.
Anyhow, now the Mullet's on here, i can carry on insulting hym, as hy expects me to - its just gotta be done...............

Hey folks ... I'm not actually IN London or near it either (5 hours drive), but I do get up to London every now and then and if I'm staying there for a few days it is usually around the Crawley area.

Next time I'm going to be up that way for a few days, it would be great to meet up for coffee and a chat.

I'm in the South-west and the city I'm in has 1 gay bar that is for the most part for the gay males. However, there are usually a few baby butches there.

Hi everyone. I am a Londoner by birth, but now live in the West Country.

I come from Blackheath originally and still have family in London. I now live in the beautiful county of Cornwall, with my wifey of nearly four years. I wouldn't want to ever move back to live in London, but we do go "up country" from time to time to visit my relatives so if any of you are around and about when we're there, it would be cool to say "Hi".

Amanda and I met when we were at university in Portsmouth, so we used to go to Brighton (which is only an hour or so along the coast from there) for weekends.... to do the scene... that kinda stuff. We only ever go to Brighton now for Pride, which is always a blast.

Cornwall is not especially a "gay oriented" place. There is only one gay club in the whole county, and it was only in 2008 that there was the first ever Gay Pride held in Truro, so it's a bit of a backwater as far as "The Scene" goes, but there is no shortage of luvverly lesbians here, we get together for meets from time to time and we're all pretty good friends.

Are there any other Kernews on this site..?

Well, that's me. It'd be good to hear from anyone who wants to share info, or tips about clubs and places to go, and that kinda stuff. I look forward to hearing from you.

Love and hugs
Jen xx

hey words! thought I'd pop by here.

I don't know very many resourses for outside london. there used to be club wotever in brighton but I think it may have closed down. but the website will have that info.

don't worry about butchfemme.co.uk. Most of the people I enjoy got kicked off of that site and they are very wierd about what you can and can't talk about. most of the people I've talked to on there are oop north. but that site is very wierd in terms of admin and banning every other person. Nothing missed, trust me.

Yep, I heard the same thing about the UK site and have decided it's not worth the bother. I'm curious though, does it have anything to do with the US site?

So....the big question....what's the weather like where you are? W/we're completely snowed in here - W/we live at the top of a hill and it's been over a week since vehicles have had access or been able to leave) - and yes, W/we've definitely had enough.

Keep in touch!

Honestly? the two people who started it caused a fairly large upset in butch-femme 1) because of british humour (which I'm sure as you know doesn't translate well into american culture) and for which I was sympathetic. I understood that gap and it made me cringe knowing the misunderstandings going on. 2) they were also not interested in learning anything and rather... I'm not sure how much I am able to say in this forum. On GB I'd be able to speak frankly but american sites are a bit more - discretionary.

so they used to be members but left. possibly one of them was banned. But no, most definitely not affiliated with bf.com

weather is a bit shit. the ice was very bad for almost a week and I haven't been able to exercise much so I'm getting a bit ... house buggy. Inks and I are in a studio suite (large enough for two, but it's still a studio) in Newington green. The location is fantastic for socialising, shopping, transport. But since the snow and her having to do night shifts cause I'm waiting for my job to start (end of jan) it's a bit squishy and doesn't fulfill the purpose of us taking a smaller place in a better area. Since walking and cycling is slightly suicidal at the moment.

walking is ok if you stick to the main roads. but there's still black ice everywhere so I find cycling on the main roads in london a bit nerve wracking. I'm a bit house bound.

Still snowing as we speak...

that I need to be on the look out for people in the London area who may be willing to help me out in a jam.

So, here's the issue. I have a trans-continental-atlantic flight scheduled to depart YVR (Vancouver, Canada) on June 10th, arriving in Gatwick at around 8am June 11th. My return flight is scheduled for Sept 9th. I am considering staying in a 'yotel' in Gatwick during my 9 hour layover between my flight from Malta and my return flight to Vancouver.

The ash cloud is creating a bit of an issue in the UK right now, most recent story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8685913.stm

I am confident that the airlines I've chosen will accommodate any flight delays with no extra charges. but it's the time waits that I'm concerned about.

I don't plan to venture out of the airport between flights, but I'm thinking now, it might be a good idea to have a few contacts from people in and around the London/Gatwick area just in case.

If you're willing to be a contact for this nervous (albeit excited) traveller who may/may not get stranded in London between flights, please PM me. And yes, while I have contacts in mind already, I'm just too shy to ask you directly.

Thanks,

PapaC

butch/femme/genderqueer/ID friendly meet:

LONDON

January 28th @ 5pm till whenever (probably around 8/9)
Curzon Soho
Downstairs, couches and bar.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&cp=11&gs_id=0&xhr=t&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1024&bih=655&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=curzon+soho&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=curzon+soho&ei=Np77Tv2LJ8iRswbY2IwU&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&sqi=2&ved=0CAUQtgM&iwloc=cids:14533400242416141031

They do sandwiches and cakes, coffee and tea upstairs and you can take the food down.
Nice atmosphere, no loud music - you can talk and sit in big comfy couches.
beer prices reasonable

so far there are about 15 people coming but suspect that will pick up by the time the event comes around. They are *really* friendly (as one of them is ME) and talkative and laid back. It's always a good time, it's the 3rd meet of this early evening soiree, giving people enough time to go out to their sat night disco afterwards.

Hope to see you there - IM if you have any questions or need a hand-hold

A few of my friends and I are organising a butch / femme / trans / genderqueer and allies meet on Saturday 19th May. To facilitate some folk travelling from outside of London, we'll be meeting as from noon-ish ... likely a few drinks, followed by a meal somewhere and then some more drinks until late for those who are still around.

Will be a small-ish gathering of good, friendly people. If anyone may be interested in coming along, let me know and I'll provide the details etc.

Sky

Latest itinerary is as follows:

- 12pm / 12.30pm to mid-afternoon: Ku Bar, Lisle Street.

- Mid-afternoon: food somewhere (fear it will be somewhere in Chinatown, which I'm not a particular fan of but others are).

- Freedom bar: we should have some folk here from 7pm or so. I'll be there from 8pm at the latest.

- Later: we will go to a club. Current thinking is possibly the Way Out Club. This wouldn't necessarily be everyone's "cup of tea" but it's actually good fun, open late and a very friendly environment.

I'll be at the meet from the start until 3pm or a bit later and back again for around 7.30pm / 8.00pm (in between times, I'm away to Twickenham to watch the rugby European Cup Final. Not a rugby fan but my home province of Ulster is in the final and I cannot miss the opportunity to attend this with some of my friends from back home).

Note that, as highlighted above, the Ku Bar that we will be meeting in is the one in Lisle Street. This is useful to note as there are two Ku Bars that are both within walking distance of each other. It's very each to get to ..... come of of Leicester Square underground station, taking the Chinatown exit and it's within 50 metres or so.

If you have any worries or concerns, let me know and Im happy to meet you outside of any of the venues and introduce you to folk !!

Thanks Ciaran!

I will join you at 7 at the Freedom bar. Hope I'll be able to find the group (I don't know what anyone looks like apart from you, but you'll arrive later :) )

I'm not sure yet if I will make it to Ku bar before that, but will try and see...
Are there going to be many people who won't stay until Freedom bar? The more new people I meet the better :)

I will send you a PM with my number

Ciaran

Hi Sky

Yes, there will be some people who'll be at Ku Bar who won't be there later - some people are travelling from outside of London and will be leaving to return home in the evening.

However, most people should be there at Freedom Bar at least for an hour or two and some of us will be there for longer !

I will be there by 8pm but will try to get there earlier. I'll let others know you're coming so you'll be guaranteed a friendly welcome.

Hi Twinkletoes and welcome to the site.

Sort of depends on what you are interested in. If it's mainstream lesbian scene that you are trying to find out more on, then the following magazine is a pretty good start. It's free of charge and can be accessed online or, in paper copy from many LGBT bars in the city:

http://g3mag.co.uk/

If you have any more specific queries, then more than happy to answer them (if I can).

I can organise a meet with relative ease if a few people here commit to come along ..... and I can get a few others who aren't members of this site to come along too.

Have organised one or two very informal gatherings over recent months and feedback has been positive. If organising a further one, I would look to one of the weekends following London Pride i.e. would be looking at early to mid July.

If people are interested, let me know and I'll come up with one or two suggestions for a good day out.

I heard all about this from a lovely lady who will be attending The Gateway on Friday. I'm really rather envious that I can't get down there this weekend. Maybe it will become a regular event...that would be cool!

I must re-watch The Killing of Sister George...a classic '68 film in which The Gateways appears.

I'm coming down to the big smoke in the foreseeable future and so looking forward to catching up with the galleries and museums...it's been an age since I visited. I'm desperate to photograph the skaters on the South Bank again before it disappears...unless the current petition works! .

Daktari, I must watch this film too! (I've never seen it to my shame). If you're coming to London, do you wanna meet some b-f folks here? I'm trying to get some people together :)

I am not going on Friday. By coincidence, I am going to a 1950's themed party that evening but not at Duckie.

I might be there on Saturday but not certain yet. Depends on a few variables at this stage. The good news is that, if I do make it, we won't have a wardrobe clash as I am NOT planning to wear a short 1960's yellow dress :praying:

Okay - time for a get together and also to give sufficient notice.

Let's aim for Friday 23rd / Saturday 24th August. Bank Holiday weekend and some of us will have pre-planned events on the Sunday.

Haven't worked out what we'll doing on the Friday and Saturday yet, of course, but if enough interest, would be great to arrange an outing to a west-end musical.

Anyway, let's keep above date as tentative right now and let's work to make it happen !!

Let's get this arranged and then I can turn my attention to my wardrobe ..... for example, do I wear my pink chinos or my leopard-print cavalli jeans? ;)

Okay .... we're going to go ahead with Saturday 24th August for the meet. Just hope that the tropical weather we've been getting recently holds up.

We'll keep it fairly low-key. Am suggesting a picnic at Primrose Hill as from early afternoon followed by retiring to a bar for some drinks and socialising.

If you don't know it, Primrose Hill is a really nice part of London and relatively easy to get to.

Alas, my cooking skills on a scale of 1-10 are actually less than 1. However, I'll be bringing a selection of waitrose sandwiches, other deli foods and a combination of dry ciders and IPAs all to share.

If you can come or are considering it, please let me know on this thread or via PM. Remember, this will be an informal event for fun and laughter.

Whilst it's somewhat outside of my control, I'm hoping the tropical weather we've experienced recently stays reappears that weekend !!

Hi all,

The meet on Saturday 14th September is planned to go as follows. We plan to meet at North Greenwich tube for 1.30-2pm and go straight on a cable car ride. That cost's £8.60 or £6.40 with an oyster card (25% discount) and takes 20-25 mins round trip. Then we are probably going to Ku Bar in Leicester Sq for approx 4.30ish. Hope to have a few drinks and have something to eat snd then a few more drinks.

If that pleases anyone then feel free to come along.

Mel, you do not think I would let you come over here and not take you to Brighton do you??

LOL...I'm fine with whatever we do. Brighton sounds like it should be on the agenda.

Sat 4th Oct will be London (meeting place will be Harvey Nics 5th floor wine bar, I'll pick up tab). So easy to get from Brighton to London via Victoria or London Bridge. We can have a Brighton meet on the Sunday ;)

start time is 1.30pm for 2pm at Harvey Nics wine bar on 4th Oct.

Not sure...I posted a message on the UK fb page so I will post when I know...or Ciaran might pop in and post. I don't have specific plans for my visit to London so a bf gathering sounds great!

Yes, Mel has got it right - Harvey Nics wine bar at 1.30pm / 2.00pm on Sat 4th Oct. Attendance for B/F meets in London can vary widely (can often be very small) but I'm confident we'll get a reasonable crowd this time as quite a few have indicated to me offline that they will attend so, if even half do, it will be good.

In mid-Sept, I'll consider dining options if people would like an early evening meal. I have a perfect place in mind as it is reasonably priced, stylish, walking distance to Soho (for those who want to party later) and has an innovative ordering system which can be fun:

Hey BodyShot
How fabulous you're coming over here. Are you venturing outside the far south in the UK?. If you are I could well be up for a coffee. :)

I don't do bars...don't do bars with others who are drinking and don't do venues with people who have been drinking.

Ciaran, I will be travelling up to London to visit with Mel and while I am certain the restaurant you have in mind is amazing, is there somewhere nearby for those who cannot eat from their menu?

Brighton is indeed far south. As is London to me. Will you be hitting anywhere north of Birmingham?

I'd lay a bet that you're not! :cheesy:

I completely misread what you wrote lol.. ahhh. Birmingham is only an hour and a half
£12 train ride. That's like driving to the grocery store here lol I'll be there visiting my 7 yr old son and currently don't have non-momma activities planned.... so, who knows.. a trip north could well happen!

Six and half years later and I still find them rather short! And still not use to only having one time zone!

Yes. Not sure how well you know London but this restaurant is in Lower Regent Street so there is a tremendous range of food places within very close walking distances and catering to all price ranges and tastes - though, of course, it's best to be guarded of the tourist traps that abound in this part of London.

I'm happy to take alternative suggestions if this place doesn't appeal. The food here is good but, despite my Japanese sister-in-law and half-Japanese nephews, Japanese food would not be my first choice. However, I think this place could work well as the dining tables also combine as computer tablets through which you place your order and so on. Sounds a bit weird but it is good fun and good way for people to get to know each other.

I have the London itch! It has been my dream to visit since I was a kid. I was even given a framed picture of the Tower of London when I graduated from HIgh School. I swore I would be there one day! Anyway, random ramble. What I am getting at is.... Im jealous!!!!! lol Have Fun Mel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You deserve it :-)

For anyone who wants to come next Saturday, the following is the itinerary:

Harvey Nics Wine Bar (5th floor) from circa 1.30pm / 2.00pm but feel free to arrive anytime until around 4pm as will make sure we are still there by then. This is easy walking distance from Knightsbridge or Regents Park underground stations.

Inamo, Regents Street, 6pm. Note that, if you plan to attend the meal, please let me know by middle of week as I will need to confirm booking with the restaurant. The restaurant is very convenient to travel to from Harvey Nics - it is a short tube ride with no change required.

Later - likely onwards to a bar or club on Soho. Let's play it by ear. PM me for my phone no if you want to be kept in touch on this aspect.

There is only one way to combat that jealously and it's pretty straightforward - make the trip over yourself :)

There has been no activity on this thread for a while, but hopefully this will give it a *bump*! I am happy to be in the UK; just south of London, to be exact! I am American but lived here off and on for the past 7 years. Just returned from a visit to my family in Nevada and so happy to see that there are many members from the UK. I am also a newbie and still breaking myself in, but thrilled to see there are others that think like me in my neighborhood. Just wish I had found this site sooner!

Anyway, hello one and all! I am so happy to be in your fabulous country tonight <3

Welcome to the thread LadyBug !

I've been to Nevada twice - unsurprisingly, it was to Las Vegas back in 2006 and 2009. Coincidently, both times it was for butch-femme events with many people from this site also in attendance.

Hello, Ciaran! Thank you for the welcome. I am settled back in the UK now, very near Gatwick Airport if you know where that is, not far from London. I am from more Northern Nevada, but have also been to Las Vegas...funny enough both times for concerts! Really into music, haha. Come to London for lots of gigs as well. Happy to have found some friendly "neighbours" here!

Yes, would be great to catch up soon :)

I was in Belfast for a week over Christmas but arrived back into London today.

Yes, I know Gatwick Airport as I travel out of it fairly regularly. Convenient location as presumably easy to get to Brighton from where you live in addition to London.

We organise occasional (i.e. not as regularly as we should) meet-ups in London and goes without saying that you would be made very welcome to attend.

Hi London!
There's a great film festival happening August 21-23, 2015 at the Cinema Museum in London. It kicks off at the British Film Institute on August 20, 2015.
Here's the info: http://woteverfilmfest.weebly.com/bfi-screening-2008.html

I'm especially excited because I will be there! Three of my films will be showing, small parts of an amazingly broad program. Yay for butches and femme on film!

And don't miss the Female Masculinity Appreciation opening night party.
