View Full Version : Beer "Whats your Taste"

I had to go to the main campus of my school an hour ago and heard on NPR Science Friday that they are making beer out of cheatgrass. As Ira Flatow said, Just another good reason to drink beer.
I have not stuck to my low carb regime sadly. I tried out a place that specializes in Belgian Beers. I hate that I cannot tell you where, or in this case even list the beers, because they are all theirs. But I have a safety issue online. So anyway, I was sorta disappointed. I really wonder if this place imagines itself as a chain or something because it felt like one of those BBQ places that's above average, but not really good. ANd I mean almost every beer. GOOD, but not special. And definitely aimed for the pallette that likes sweet, grainy, flowery -- just a loud beer. Between that and the alcohol content, I walked out of there feeling like a balloon. *burp*

Here's the transcript from the NPR thing I heard re making beer from cheatgrass. Actually it's just a small part of a a Science Friday edition of Talk of the Nation called Fires and Invasive Grass in the Great Basin.
FLATOW: . . . there is somebody who's actually thought of what can we do with all these cheatgrass. And Tye Morgan is a biogeochemist and a homebrewer. She makes beer. And she said why not turn the cheatgrass into beer? And that's what they have been doing. She is also the owner of the Bromus - of Bromus Tech in Reno, Nevada, and she joins us from KUNR. Welcome to SCIENCE FRIDAY, Dr. Morgan. Hi, there.
TYE MORGAN: Hello. How it's going?
FLATOW: Fine. How successful have you been in turning cheatgrass into beer?
MORGAN: Well, I've actually had great success turning cheatgrass into beer. We have actually made a 5 percent alcohol beer, and it actually tastes very well. I've had a lot of taste testers going through the process.
FLATOW: I had my test myself today just, so I could...
MORGAN: What...
FLATOW: I had a taste test myself, so I can verify.
(LAUGHTER)
MORGAN: So what do you think?
FLATOW: It's delicious. It's very good.
MORGAN: Yeah. It's quite shocking that people identify it as beer, first off. That was one of my big questions, was when we start making beer from it, what - are people going to identify it as beer? Are they going to identify it as some other product going on? So we hit our mark when they said, hey, this is beer.
And they said, oh, this is pretty good. You know, what is this? Is this like an amber ale, or is this like, you know, like a Boston lager? And I said, no. It's actually made from cheatgrass. And they kind of look at me and go, well, what's cheatgrass? So we've had really good success.
We're trying to get started in the harvesting process, working with the BLM. And our goal really isn't to turn cheatgrass into a crop, but to use - cheatgrass beer is almost like a land management tool, something that people could use as - they're kind of piggybacking the idea of green strips(ph).
So when we have these large wildfires, you get high nitrogen spikes following - two years post-following the wildfire, you will get a huge burst of cheatgrass. I say we come in there, and we do perimeter harvesting. When you take the perimeters out, you're going to reduce the seed bank. And by reducing the seed bank, we can follow the nitrogen, see when those seed banks get low enough, and then we could come in with some good restoration efforts at that point. But you can't go out and see when you have, you know, 65,000 seeds per square meter. You're just not going to get success out of that.
FLATOW: Both Jen and Mike are shaking their heads in agreement.
(LAUGHTER)
FLATOW: You - how do you make beer? Out of which part of the cheatgrass do you make the beer?
MORGAN: I just take the seed. It's right off the top of the plant. So when we actually go out and do the harvesting, my criteria of the plant, it has to be at least six inches tall. And if it's six inches tall, when I go out with my vacuum, because that's the - when I first started this as a home brew, I'm taking a vacuum to the top of the seeds. And you don't want to suck up any soil. You want to leave the plant system intact, because as bad as cheatgrass is, there are still some good things to it.
If you have a fire that comes through, it's going to leave bare ground. Bare ground is your enemy in the Great Basin. We have bad wind erosion problems. And if you can get that plant in there, at least it's going to be a soil - at the very minimum, a soil stabilizer.
So I don't want to remove the plant. I just want to take the seeds. That's the highest part of the nitrogen in the plant. Just, you know, harvest two years in a row. Monitor the nitrogen, and then come in with restoration efforts, because cheatgrass will engineer the soil for itself.
FLATOW: So the cheatgrass seed...
MORGAN: It will...
FLATOW: ...is actually a good replacement for barley in the beer process?
MORGAN: Well, I don't want to say it's a good replacement for barley, because barley is an established agricultural crop. And the idea with cheatgrass is that it's kind of a migratory, unsustainable crop. We are - you know, the goal is to have a harvest way that is sustainable to the environment, but is not sustainable to cheatgrass.
And, like Mike was saying, you can only harvest two months out of the year. And you're not going to get the same weight that you would for barley. And so your - with cheatgrass beer, you know, to really have an impact, you need 1,200 tractors for two months going, and that's just not possible. So it's a niche market that has, you know, the potential for people to know every time they're drinking their beer, they're contributing to saving the desert...
(LAUGHTER)
MORGAN: ...or saving the (unintelligible).
(APPLAUSE)
FLATOW: As if we all need another reason to drink beer.

I'm not always a beer drinker- don't like the bubbles, but do like a corona or but light lime after mowing the lawn in the summer, or a dark bitter beer in the winter.
However, I recently met a distant cousin of mine. She and her wife own a beer crafting store in Boston. They have like, 900 types of beer. We were talking about what kinds of beer they have and I asked her if she had anything made with like, Kale, or Spinach ( I love greens) and she said no, but they had one made with seaweed!
Happened to be I was doing a bike tour of Boston the next week so I went by their place and got the seaweed beer which was in a box along with a beer made with pine, one made with heather, and one with elderberry. They were all really good. The set was in a case entitled "Historic Ales from Scotland"

EGF, I knew that you could be diabolical about sneaking kale into stuff but I never imagined that you might try to sneak it into BEER!!
But now you need to come up with one - you could call it "drink more kale." Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head) is always looking for weird new beer ideas - maybe he would do this with you.

Life is short, so I will ask permission to drink the last two today and will chill to the mellow sounds of piano music orchestrated for my listening pleasure/attention, while the bowl games play out silently in the back ground.

For the draft beer lovers out there...
Draft Beer – Bubbles in a Glass Tell All
The next time you’re served a cold draft beer, and before the first drink, study the glass and observe the bubbles.
The Bubbles in a glass of beer will reveal many interesting things. The bubbles will show attributes of the beer style being poured, the cleanliness of the glass and will provide a good indication of the condition of the beer dispensing system.
The process starts when the tap is opened and a glass is filled with beer. The sudden change in pressure from the dispensing system to the glass causes dissolved carbon dioxide to escape from the beer as the glass fills. Ideally the result is a (½ inch to 1 inch) thick head of well knitted bubbles, otherwise known as foam. Foam is essential to delivering the true flavor and boutique of the brew. Each type and style of beer has its own taste and aroma characteristics. Foam accentuates the aroma and enables the beer to taste as the Brewer intended. The gas within the bubbles also insulates, thus keeping the beer in the glass colder longer.
The head on the beer should remain until the last drink is taken. Foam (bubbles) should cling to the glass sides with each drink; this is called lacing, and is an indication that the beer glass has been cleaned properly. A creamy head on a beer suggest that the beer dispensing system is in balance, and that the carbonation brewed into the beer is being maintained to the Brewers specification.
A head of foam on the top of a beer is ideal; however bubbles forming on the sides or bottom of the beer glass and then rising to the top may indicate the glass is not “beer” clean. Bubbles that form at the sides and bottom of a glass, where residue or microscopic cracks serve as starting points, for carbon dioxide molecules to gather. When the carbon dioxide at a collection site reaches critical volume, a bubble detaches from the glass and launches itself toward the beer's head. A clean beer glass should not have bubbles anywhere but in the head on top of the beer, or lacing on the side of the beer glass.
An exception to this is laser etched glassware. Brewers are now marketing glasses where a logo or insignia is laser engraved into the bottom of the glass. This forces bubbles to form around the etching, highlighting the Brewer’s logo. Eventually the bubbles grow large enough to rise to the top of the glass helping to maintain the head of foam. This is done to enhance the beer drinking experience and to differentiate the beer brand.
Another interesting characteristic of beer bubbles was studied by a chemist, Richard Zare the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science, who published a seminal paper on the "fizzics" of beer. Zare's beer science pointed out that beer bubbles got larger and rose faster as they floated to the top of a glass. The reason that bubbles expand and accelerate as they rise is that bubbles themselves act as collection sites. Each attracts more escaping carbon dioxide -- or, as Zare puts it, "bubbles collect on bubbles."
The absence of bubbles usually indicates a dispensing system problem. The beer on tap may have lost carbonation and will taste flat. This is a result of the dispensing system not being set up properly or dispensing with the wrong gas.
Beer bubbles provide many insights into the beer style and quality, glassware cleanliness and dispensing system condition. When served the next pint, inspect, and insist on properly performing bubbles in your beer.

well not sure if you know Daktari that Budweiser here in the states is referred to as the King of Beers, branded by the company that is.
As for a wheat ale with orange peel taste there is Blue Moon and I'm not particularly found of that taste either. Maybe cause I got sick mixing it with margaritas one night so I never will have it again. lol It has malted barley, white wheat, oats, orange peel, and corriander.
There is one called Orange Blossom Cream Ale from Buffalo's Brewery in CA and looks interesting. It is a light ale with hints of fresh orange. Brewed with sweet orange peel, orange blossom extract and honey.

Had a huge EWWWWWWWWWWWW moment a couple of nights ago.
Found a beer called "Strawberry Blonde" by Diamond Bear Brewing company at my local liquor store and got really excited to try it. I love Wicked Pete's Strawberry Blonde Pale Ale but you can't find it here at all so I thought Diamond Bear would be a good alternative.
Diamond Bear is a local brewery located in Little Rock and they have a pretty good following.
Well, when we popped the cap, the beer foamed for no less than 20 minutes (like, HUGE foam pouring lazily from the mouth of the bottle). It foamed so much that the bottle was half gone when it stopped.
I thought maybe it just got shook up but when I poured it into a glass to see the color of it, there were chunks of fuzzy looking orangish dust in the beer. Needless to say, I didn't like the way it looked.
Not sure if that was just hops or yeast or what but it made think something was wrong and it was fermented.
I sipped a little bit and tasted no strawberry notes at all, just a high acrid hops flavor. Needless to say, will not be buying that one again!!!

It is an Imperial stout, which are my favorite. 10% alcohol, so you have to be careful! I decided to buy a whole case as my store only got 5 cases and the manager explained that is is possible they won't get anymore until next year. She said this is something they do not have control over. Last year I had a hard time finding it, so I thought I should plan ahead!
I set the case aside and won't have more than just a few a week.

I'm a little late to the table, but I've recently discovered the joys of beer growlers. I can sample the beer before I choose, and get ~3 pints out of one growler-- all of which makes me much more game to try beers that I usually wouldn't buy in a 6-pack. Plus, it's draft, and tastes so much fresher than bottled beer!
A recent purchase was creme brûlée stout. I liked the sip or two I sampled in the store, but when I poured a pint of it at home, I was over it in three sips. It's like drinking an alcoholic milkshake…gah!
My current favorite is Southern Tier 2x IPA. Damn good!

So many beers, so little time!
Guinness is my "go-to" beer for sure, as well as New Belgium 1554 (Both go great with a Maduro wrapped cigar, btw.).
My sexy Canadian girlfriend has been keeping me supplied with some great Canadian beer too.
Dale's Pale Ale is another great beer too.
Shiner Ruby Redbird is a VERY nice summer beer! Yum!
I plan to try my hand at home brewing again at some point, but it can take up some space so will probably wait until I have a garage.
Great thread!

Be veeeery careful. I have gotten a beer gut from enjoying more and more different brews over the last couple of years...there are just too many coming out nowadays!
But, if my favorites weren't the Imperial Stouts (looking at close to 300 calories a bottle for the ones I like) or Imperiral IPAs (looking at mid 200's), it wouldn't be as bad!
So, be forwarned your "Dad's beer" is no doubt lower in calories than anything your brother (who seems to like craft brews) will offer you.
Just mentioning the above as I know that you are into physical fitness.

My local is a very affordable brew house. They have about 60 beer on tap every day. I love pale ales that are crisp, malt beers rather than hoppy ones, and I love a very well done fruit beer. There's a Belgian strawberry one that is amazing but its 7% so it can kick you in the head. Also a nice kiwi strawberry one from Sweden.

Leinenkugel's makes a Summer Shandy that's okay. It's a definite lager/lemonade mix. Way back when before they bottled it, I only ever had shandies in bars overseas... so, now days, if I'm gonna ruin my beer...:sunglass: I prefer a shandy or Radler that's mixed with something along the lines of 7up or Sprite.

Make your own. Take a crisp lager, a stronger one and add anywhere from two ounces (shandy top) to 1/3 of the pint of sparking lemon pop. That's how it's done in the pubs.
Or you can squeeze half a lemon in your beer.
That's it, you order the beer you want and say "shandy top" or "shandy"
I always had a Stella shandy top in the summer.

It's suppose to be a refreshing, light, easy to drink, less alcohol option. So don't mix with microbrew ales or anything. Pick a halfway decent middle of the road lager. I personally love shandy when it's hot out.

Until I looked up their name to see if it was Third Wave or 3rd Wave SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS THREAD, I completely believed it was a feminism thing.

They really are. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the can. One of my top craft brews, Oskar Blues has always been doing cans... and doing them well! But they always positioned it as "packable" in a time when the bottle was king for the craft beer.
Works for me... I can't have a super tasty beer after backpacking all day if it weren't for cans, no one wants to pack out beer bottles!

Much like wine for me, some foods just ache for a beverage of beer to augment the dining experience.
Two groups come to my mind and I enjoy beer as the beverage when I eat them: Thai food goes quite well with a Singha. Perfecto! Indian cuisine is complemented nicely with either a Kingfisher or Zingaro.
A sip of beer with these particular ethnic meals neutralizes heat and brings out the exotic spices in the food for me.

I've had a fresh hop pale ale from Great Divide out here. It was good, nothing spectacular...fresh/wet hops tend to be a little lighter & citrusy. However, tis the hop season and it's definitely a seasonal brew so you'll probably find some around. I prefer hops that sorta punch you in the face, I tend to prefer dry hopping and even dry hopping at the table. I feel like such a fiend.

I hadn't ever heard of wet hops before, so I did some reading after Collette posted. Evidently, there is a difference between wet and fresh hops. Wet are to be used within 24 of harvesting while fresh is within 7 days.

When I worked at the country club, there was a very elderly man that would come in from golfing every day at 10am and get a Highland Gaelic Ale... http://www.highlandbrewing.com/ One day, he came in and the tap was not working and the bartender had to fix it and offered him something else instead. He preferred to put his golf game on hold and wait for the tap to be fixed, he loved this beer that much lol.

I would definitely try their Black Mocha Stout. Typically, a lower ABV Stout (like Guinness), doesn't have a solid, or heavy enough taste to me, but recently I had a stout on tap that was low in abv, but heavy in taste. Of course, I don't remember the name. I am wondering if things are moving in this direction with stouts. I LOVE a heavy stout, but the high abv keeps me from having as many as I would like. I am not so keen on the high calories (250-300), either! I admit Russian Imperials are my fav.

When you're really thirsty on a very hot summer's day, nothing beats a 12 pack of Coors Lite... tastes like bottled water and probably has less alcohol...plus you get your deposit back on the bottle.

Today I treated myself to a six pack of Highland Brewery's seasonal Devil's Britches red India pale ale...
Never had it, but I love everything else they make...
Whilest at the store I saw a 12 pack of assorted Highland goodies....but alas, Devil's Britches was not amongst them. And I really wanted to try it....yes

Because of my IBS I can't drink ales or bitters anymore :( and I never could stand hoppy. I loved the local craft beer in the 90s but when I came back 5 years ago, the craft beer had gone all hoppy. Every single one of them that wasn't a stout.
I had been drinking very lovely beer in the UK and in the Netherlands - bitter and ale from the UK and lager from Germany and Belgium - all very good and a *variety* of kinds of flavours not just kick you in the face with shoes made hops.
Granville Island Lager is a local lager that I like.
Crisp malty, with a hint of grassy herbal hop aromas. A *hint*- just enough to make it refreshing but not enough to make it even slightly bitter or jumpy. It's incredibly smooth. It goes incredibly well with delicate food like halibut because nothing is punching the shit out of your pallet - but it still has a full, firm body to be able to cleanse the pallet between bites of fish and seafood, so you can taste your salad or sesame roast potatoes with miso gravy.

HB, what do you mean when you say "bitters"? I see that you don't like "hoppy" beers (which translates that you wouldn't like IPAs), but hoppier the beer, the more bitter it is. So, I am confused.
----------------------
No doubt I have written in this thread before....but... my favorites are Stout, Imperial Russian Stouts to be exact. I like ones that have a chocolate, roasty overlay to it. I also love imperial IPAs. It is the high alcohol content beers I tend to like...not because they are high alcohol content, but because it is the high alcohol content beers that are the most robust. I am seeing more Black IPAs/Black Ales too. I am liking the taste of those, I am finding. They have the roasty tasted of the stouts I like, with some hoppiness on top. So, somewhat of a stout/IPA, which works for me. What I like about them is they have the robust taste that I appreciate in a higher alcohol content stout (8.0%+), but hang out in the 6.0% family, which suits my head a bit better. I'm ok with some Red ales, which I will reach for if I am finding that the IPAs avaiable have too much of a grapefruit taste to them.
I don't like milk stouts, and I really dislike low alcohol content stouts as they taste exactly what I would picture a higher alcohol content stout halfed with water would taste like (Guinness, for example..I have no idea why people like these except for maybe the frothy head, which I can appreciate). I don't like Tripels. I don't like wheat beers, and I don't like Belgium/whites at all. None of those flavored beers either. HATE them. They remind me of people who get "coffee" which is nothing more than flavored syrup, whipped cream, and whatever else they put in those drinks. Not real coffee.
I love draft beer much, much more than I like a bottle, which means going out to pubs, so my pocket book get hits quite a bit. I have thought about getting one of those kegerators, but they are expensive. I am also concerned I will drink more since I will have draft beer easily avaialable to me. Beer from cans definitely taste better than bottles, but the craft brewers who put their beer in cans, which although is increasing, is still much lower than bottles.

You asked HB, but bitter ale is British ale that is slightly hoppier than pale ale, but nothing like the double and triple IPAs now popular in America.
How do you all like sour beers? I tried them first at Russian River some years ago. I like them.
Re Guinness, I agree that it lacks complexity and has no finish at all. But you can drink more of it than those chocolatey stouts.

I have to add that I am not too fussy about style, meaning I will drink pretty much anything as long as it's well made. I also like a flavored beer at times. There's a cherry porter made by Short's in Northern Michigan that is beautiful. The cherries are local. So good. I only had it once. Mmm. Also a good Weiss beer is fine by me. Basically, as long as it's well made, I am for it. And it doesn't have to be complex or surprising. You can tell a good clean beer that is carefully made.
I agree re Belgian whites. The soda pop of beer. There are good ones, but Blue Moon, Shock Top, and Fat Tire . . . ah no.

Thanks for responding since our beloved HB pops in and out off the site. You said the British Ale is not as hoppy as the double and tripels, but what about the regular IPA?
You know, I don't think I have had a sour yet, but I have been meaning to. I wouldn't want to buy a six pack and my regular bar hasn't had any on tap yet (even though they have 37 taps and switch them out frequently). I suppose since they are called "sours", I picture them to taste like Mike's Hard lemonade or something...which I am sure is not the case!
And true that with Guiness being lighter one could drink more of them. But, I feel just a lacking when I drink them. I might even choose a Coors Light over it if I had no other choice. Which sounds crazy, I know! It just tastes like I'm drinking 2/3 water and 1/3 beer. Tasteless. The aftertaste is water. It might just be my palate.

Since it is a porter, I would try it. I can see that combination not tasting like a "flavored" beer. It would just seems it would be different than a raspberry or a pumpkin. It sounds like this would be a natural flavor, too.
Agree that you can tell a quality beer, clean and well made. That does make a huge difference.

IPAs are hoppier than bitter for sure. Re sours, they aren't sweet so no hard lemonadey taste. Sour and kind of carbonated. I liked the Russian River Temptation I tried a few times.
I've never had any Japanese dark beer. I will have to try it. I like bottles too, but cans are much better at preserving the taste of the beer.

Right about cans preserving the taste. I remember back in my Coors Light Days, like all good lesbians around these parts (actually I was a Coors Light drinker pre dating), I always went for the can when it was "cooler" to have the bottle. As I remember it, the bottles of Coors Light tasted more "watery" to me.
I really like 21st Amendment beers and they come in cans. I can't help but think this is part of the reason why the beer has such a quality taste. I've never had any of their beers on draft, but I am quite happy with the taste in a can. I like their Brew free or Die IPA and their Back in Black IPA

HB, what do you mean when you say "bitters"? I see that you don't like "hoppy" beers (which translates that you wouldn't like IPAs), but hoppier the beer, the more bitter it is. So, I am confused.
They are called "bitters" because compared to ales there, they are bitter.
Not compared to IPA. I don't find them anywhere close to as bitter as IPA. They are ales, not pale beers, so it's called so in comparison to that. but a clear tawny brown you can see through, very nutty, malty, warm. The "bitter" in it is a compliment to the ale, not a lead, like an IPA.
They are called "old men's beer" or "traditional ale" they aren't stout-y pitch black which are coffee, chocolate, molasses.
They are more a clear, light-to-dark amber brown beer, and the oness I went for were "dark fruit" (like when you make overly ripe fruit into something else), pepper and caramel. They were more "spice edge bitter" than "hop edge bitter."
That said - I also always chose the *lower* of the bitter end of the traditional ales - the double malts. Ones made with pale malt and crystal malt, for example, if I could. There were further end bitter ones but to me it tasted like someone was trying to leech the moisture out of my pallet. Traditional ale bitters are *DRY* and bitter if you go for that far end.
That said, I can't drink dry wine, or dry vermouth either. Nor can I even eat a brussel sprout because of the type of bitterness.
I can do lemon! but to me that's a different bitter - that's a sweet-sharp-bitter. Not a dry acrid bitter that tastes like something is seriously wrong with what I'm eating.
Apparently this is a genetic thing.
All the more dry wine, dry martinis, and IPA for everyone else. :D

Bud Light Lime is my go-to beer when we're out at basic restaurants and bars. At home we drink Coors Light bc that is Mr. Jenny's preference.
When we are at craft beer places i like to try the beers with the funniest names.
Beers i have drunk for the name alone include Arrogant Bastard, Old Speckled Hen, and Pussy Wagon.
My tastes are simple: i like all beers! I especially love super-hoppy IPAs. I like porters and stouts and bocks, too. I do not love sours, but i don't leave them unfinished either.
One of my book clubs meets at a draughthouse so i actually try 2-3 new craft beers per month
I should use this thread as a beer journal so i can track those tastings.
The thing is, i have not tried any craft beer that i would go out of my way to have again. When faced with the 63 taps our draughthouse has, i always choose something new. There always IS something new!

I remember when coffee was coffee ( a lost cause now ) and beer was beer. You want a fruity taste, buy juice. Worst case, drink juice after your beer ...better for a possible breathalyzer test on your way home .
Leave those fruity bits out of beer. Beer is not sangria. Beer doesn't need fruit...Good beer deserves respect. Gentrify neighbourhoods but leave beer alone.

At our Craft Beer Book Club this month i decided to try a Horchata-flavored beer.
It was ok going down but it did not stay down. This could have been caused by their new menu item, fish sandwich, though

The Brits have been drinking beer and eating fish and chips for centuries now. I'd be looking at that outlier "horchata" stuff before I'd blame the haddock.

I know very little about beer so feel altogether mystified when it comes to looking for a good european dark ale. i need for an antique bread recipe.
Good Luck on finding the perfect dark ale for your bread recipe. I actually did a simple internet search and came up with page for beers used in breads.
Here's the link, kittygrrl, maybe this will help (I hope!): https://www.thebreadshebakes.com/2015/11/beer-bread-recipes-how-to-bake-with-beer/

I know next to nothing about beers as well Miss Kitty, but I do know I've never met a loaf of bread I didn't like.....
Feel free to send a loaf my way once you get it down pat......

Hey Miss kitty inquiring minds are curious how that bread recipe is coming along...
I find that I like lagers and ales better than IPAs......and everyone is doing all sorts of IPAs at the local breweries and taphouses. We just recently visited http://abandonedbuildingbrewery.com/ and https://www.newcitybrewery.com/ Both were great and close by one another in an old converted mill.

Has anyone ever wondered about beers made with hopps? I found an interesting web-blog called: Hoosier Beer Geek (https://hoosierbeergeek.blogspot.com).
I tend to like Hopps brewed beers (when I take a notion to have one).
Check out their blog page called:

It sure doesn't, thanks Jedi.
My first ex-husband likes to dabble in craft beer making. LOL, he is nuts about his beer making, but I asked him if there was some online resource in learning how to make your own beer. He sent this link to me, so I hope other's find it interesting.

Like I have mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of IPAs. I like a good lager.
I'm really not a fan of beer but there are two I really liked and would recommend. One is still available, the other was from a microbrewer in S. Cal and they're closed.
The one y'all can hunt down and try is called He'Brew. Yup, that's its name! Flashback --> It was the late 90's, a buddy and I were at Gelson's in S. Cal browsing the beers (for her) and at one point she stopped and said WTH?! At first we were both ready to take offense but it was totally legit and kinda cute. The tag line on the bottle was .... "The Chosen Beer" :koolaid:
During our lil taste test I was … WTHeck's with the bubbles? They were not what one expected in a beer. My buddy, the beer aficionado, said the bubbles were like those you'd find in Champaign. It was delicious and had a very pleasant "mouth feel." :p
I just went to their website...Shmaltz Brewing (https://shmaltzbrewing.com/beer/) and I'm not seeing it but if you Google "Where to buy He'Brew beer?" it's still available here and there. There's a blurb about the company and He'Brew beer on their WIKI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shmaltz_Brewing_Company) page.
Hope you try it and like it! :)

Corvallis Oregon is home to several awesome craft breweries, one of which is called Block 15. It’s an IPA brand from Corvallis.

I like Belgian ales, sours, farmhouse reds and some IPAs. I prefer nothing too hoppy. One of my all-time fallbacks is Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. It's a malty Imperial IPA. Dogfish Head Brewery is in Delaware.

I didn't drink much beer this summer, but my go-to beer is Heineken 0.0. It's the best tasting non-alchoholic beer to me and I just love it. Especially if I have tasty burger or a bag of lightly-salted pumpkin seeds to go along with it. Think I'll have one this evening with some pumpkin seeds.

Just cracked open a beer I got in Upstate NY but is actually a Vermont beer…
Best of Times by Simple Roots out of Burlington VT
It’s described as a “malty English ale”. It definitely delivers. Very good. Very strong too. I’m only a couple sips in and feeling tipsy!
