We had "Snowed in Truth or Dare" so now it's Summertime Truth or Dare. You know the game. Soooo... (to anyone), Truth or dare? Pick!

Maybe I do need to explain. BB didn't know what the heck I was talking about :D

Someone picks "Truth" or "Dare," and then the person who asked that someone pick (in this first case, me) must give that person a "Truth" or a "Dare" (whichever one the person picked). If the person picks "Truth," then I would ask that person a question and that person must post a truthful answer. If "Dare" has been picked, then I tell the person, "I dare you to [whatever I want to dare them to do]."* Then whomever has fulfilled the truth or dare asks that someone new pick truth or dare, and then gives that person a truth or dare based on what they ask for.

I also play that if you are too uncomfortable with what you've been asked or told to do, then you can request to have a truth instead of a dare, or a different dare, or whatever!

Here's what I did: At the water ice shop this evening, when I paid for mine, I gave the clerk enough extra money for a a big family standing at the nearby busstop to get any treat they wanted, and give her a big tip. I told the woman to wait until I was around the corner to tell them.

1) I love to be at the beach in Montauk or Fire Island way out jumping waves. I love to stay out for hours and feel at one with the ocean. I like the feeling of not hearing anyone around me and feeling like the universe is magical and perfect, and I'm part of it. I like when it starts to get dark and cold, and I'm still there. I like the melancholy.

2) I like to be sitting at my computer in my air-conditioned apartment feeling like I'm smart not to be outside when outside feels too polluted and humid. Same about being at the gym. Everyone else is outside, and I'm inside. I like that.

i converted about 5 years ago :) i've always been interested in different religions but didn't know that much about islam. a close friend converted and i saw how much it changed her life, so i got interested and started reading more about it just out of curiosity. i didn't intend to convert. and then, the more i read, the more i wanted to read.... it was the first time monotheism ever made sense to me, hehe.

When I was young and confused -I had a crush on a person -
This person was a young lad, and was so darn cute
In the summer a bunch of us kids would get together at the top of the hill and play kick the can, hide-n-seek, and some stupid game where you would inhale and exhale as deeply as possible ten times, and then hold your breath while someone else squeezed tightly. It was thought to be cool if you passed out.
Well, it came my time, and I was going to be held by this blonde blue eyed handsome child of 14 and I was only 12 - all the kids made a circle around me and him, and honestly I thought I was going to faint the moment those sweet little arms wrapped around me.
I breathed in and out, in and out, all the while thinking he's holding me, he's holding me, I'm the luckiest girl in the world,
ANd when he went to squeeze, I didn't pass out but instead, I farted, loudly...on HIM......and the kids took off running in all direction yelling, screaming, laughing, pointing at him - ---RIE POOTED on you!!! RIE POOTED on you!!!
Needless to say, as badly as I wanted to pass out, the squeeze wasn't long enough - and I hit the ground, pretending to be completely out.

Embarrassing, eh? Kind of hard for me since I have spent my life avoiding embarrassment at all costs.

Ok, the only one that comes to mind is kind of mortifying. Even though I was 110 pounds at age 13, all of my girlfriends weighed about 90-100 pounds and I always was preoccupied with getting thinner and fitting in.

One day, a bunch of us were walking home from school with some boys and I was telling them about a new girl that was going to be in our home room and I said, "She's really cute and has a good figure" and one of the boys said, in front of everyone: "Yeah? Like you?".

I don't know if it was embarrassment or shame but I can still cringe at being singled out in front of everyone like that and everyone laughed like it was the funniest thing ever.

ACK! Yes! I was raised by parents whose parents came from the Old Country. My parents were not Americanized yet...it was my generation who finally learned and abided by American culture. So, when my mother bought or made me school clothes, she did not have the "rules" to teach me. Like,stripes and prints do not go together. you dont wear forest green herringbone skirts with an orange belt and a purple Nehru shirt..with a smiley face on it. LOL. I didnt know you wore different shoes with different outfits! I had no concept that certain textures didnt match! I was raised by farmers...we didnt even have tv. We never bought magazines. I had no close neighbors. When I went to school for the first time, and saw hundreds of kids my age, I could not understand why I stood out and was targeted by the bullies. If you are not raised to see differences, you cannot see them. I did not know there was such a thing as a hair style. We only had hair cuts. Classmates had running water in the house. We had a well outside out kitchen. We had an outhouse until I was 9 years old. We didnt even have a radio to listen to music. It was there for news. Or talk shows. It was a very plain and simple life. And America was becoming much more complicated as capitalism and consumerism began to grow. My mother had two dresses when she was in high school. I had 4 outfits. One pair of shoes. And ankle socks. While everyone else was wearing knee highs.

yes, yes, the fashion police should have shown up and taken me to a kind prison or reform school where I could have learned all these things. it wasnt until i was actually graduated and got a job in a retail store that I learned American ways. I was floored you could buy dishes in a SET! And sheets too! And silverware!

Life when I was young, was very hard, and very interesting. I was tormented. And it affected me for the rest of my life. But it taught me so much about perspectives and I never forget that the world I live in, might not be the world the person standing next to me lives in..even if they are my neighbor...

Probably the MOST influential thing that happened in my life between those ages was that my mom suffered a cerebral hemorrhage when I was 12. She ended up in a coma for 7-1/2 months, before she died when I was 13. Obviously, huge changes in my life.

What I have always appreciated about it is that it is the one place where we can write about anything on our mind or vent if needed (as long as we preface it if it contains possible triggers, as recently moderated).

It does not always need to be heavy or serious (though I have certainly written about some heavy ones in my own life).

LOL! Ok...well, I met someone and we felt a connection (no one on the Planet)...and decided to see if it was worth developing into anything serious. I took off a week of work to spend with them (they lived a few states away). So...for all the chemistry we had outside of the bedroom...our chemistry IN the bedroom was awful!! It was, quite honestly, the worst sex I've ever had...usually, I can find SOME redeeming quality...or lead the person with some gentle direction...but this person was SO convinced of their own abilities...that they did not listen to my, at first subtle, and then NOT so subtle hints. I've never been with anyone who was so clueless about female anatomy (and this is doubly perplexing because she was female identified!). I felt like saying "HEY...just follow my lead ok??? See what I'm doing here? How 'bout you give that a try!" That week seemed to last at least four. I swear...you couldn't pay me to relive it. Hi, folks,

We've had a few complaints about this thread, so I figured I'd address these issues so that we can keep them in mind as we play the game.

1) Let's be careful not to joke using terms like "ADHD" or other mental conditions. I know that no harm is intended; we all just need to be more mindful about this.

2) When we dare, if it's a light prank on someone, let's continue to do our best to make sure that the one giving the dare chooses someone whom they have a sense won't mind being on the receiving end of a playful gag. I like JAGG's way of starting by saying something like, "My buddy, X, would get a kick out of this" or something like that. It wouldn't be good to choose a random stranger, because that person might feel mocked. So far, this has not been a problem, but it has been voiced as a possible problem-to-be, so I figured I'd address it preemptively.

3) If a prank takes place on a thread, let's try not to intrude upon threads that are serious for other people. We need to keep in mind the big picture and try as best we can to think ahead about what might offend.

Basically Truth or Dare is an edgy game, and there's going to be moments when we accidentally step on others' toes. During these times, let's try to be gracious and use them as learning experiences. Let's also do our best to avoid them in the first place.

Please don't take this moderation as an end to fun. Pushing the envelope is always going to involve some discussion of what is and isn't appropriate, so let's embrace that as part of the process when it comes up.

Thanks for the dare Turtle...interestingly enough yesterday I wrote one of my nieces (the eldest one I have), a letter sharing with her exactly what she means to me, what a great mom she has been and now grandmother, what a solid friend she is to her friends, and how very proud I am of her for not just surviving but thriving some difficult challenges...As I sit here sunburned yes I was out on the water for hours, I haven't mailed it to her yet, but will tomorrow.

Coming out for me was so hard - there was so much shame - and it took me, literally, years to come to terms with not only who I was but that it was ok; and it all happened right when I first joined the Navy, which I always felt was kind of ironic.

Interestingly enough, I dont remember the first time I kissed a woman. I remember the first time a woman touched my hand in a suggestive way - she was on watch duty and I was visiting her because it was late at night and I thought she could use the company. She was the first lesbian I'd ever "known" and we met right after boot camp when we were waiting to go to airman apprenticeship school (a basic school for those of us who just "signed up" and didnt have an actual job yet).

When she touched my hand, I froze - I had no idea what to do with myself. Spending so many years kinda sorta thinking you like girls but being told that was wrong, while trying to like boys even though that felt weird created an unbelievable lack of experience - so it wasnt as though I had been through this before with dudes - I literally had no clue what to do.

All I remember is my head feeling very thick, I got quite dizzy, and a voice in my head just kept screaming, "kiss her damnit! kiss her!"

Eventually - which in reality was probably like 2 seconds later lol, I pulled my hand away and made an excuse as to why I had to leave. :blink:

The next "first" I remember with a woman was my first sexual experience, which started out as though I had no idea what body parts were what! Again, I froze and I was so scared and unsure of myself. It wasnt that it felt "wrong" it was more like I felt like I wasnt "allowed" to be doing this and feeling this way. I was scared and excited, unsure and ready for anything, I was filled with shame and boldness at the same time.

In the beginning, the shame and fear won out and she literally had to put my hands where she wanted them and talk me through things; but eventually, the boldness won out and I was able to wrap my head around what I was doing, let go, and just run with it.

It's fun to look back on that scared little baby dyke now and remember how scary all of those firsts were - a time when you thought every mistake would be remembered and mocked forever, without realizing that the exploration was the fun part ... and really, kinda the point. :winky:

I was 10 or 11 and my dad had picked me up for the weekend and we went clothes shopping for me and i got the cutest new pair of jeans and a couple new blouses, anyway we went to dads AA meeting somewhere in downtown and there were absolutely no bathrooms to be found...at least by me anyway and i was looking trust me....there was a balcony of some sorts and i stepped out onto it and really had no choice when my bladder burst all on its own....after the meeting i was in tears telling my dad what had happened, he felt really bad and told me that from now on he would show me the restrooms first in strange places...oy i cant believe i just shared that awful memory.

Now, the piece' de' resistance.....my 30 inch scar down my chest from below breastbone to my pubic line....see I was :pirate-steer: on a Pirate ship...and those rogue pilfering scoundrels tried to rob me of my bounty....so I stood my stay...and took them on...a pirate just HAS to save hys Rum and jewels and gold, right? one of them purt near cut me in half heightwise with his sword....swashbuckling rogue he was...so had to be patched back up...requiring 30 staples to close me back up...of course, THIS is my most impressive scar to date...and I wield it proudly...the girl thinks it is quite sexy, too...{disclaimer: this, too, is a fantasy tale.. however, I did have 6 hrs of major abd. surg back in December 2011 to remove 18 inches of my colon due to an invasive carcinoma...so this was a blessing to me and I dodged a major bullet. I get scans of chest/abdomen/pelvis and lab work every 3 months to make sure nothing has returned...:). I am truly blessed.

Judging from the number of underlined passages and notes I've scribbled in the margins, I'd have to say Boys of My Youth by Jo Ann Beard. I get engrossed in her life stories, but she's such a finely crafted writer that I'm just as fascinated by how she's telling them. It's like being caught up and amazed by some spectacular magic trick, while simultaneously getting to see (and be just as amazed) by how it's done.

On the fiction side, I'd have to say the Complete Collection of Carson McCullers for much the same reason--I like appreciating the craft as much as the plot.

sorry for the delay, spent the weekend in detroit and wasn't on the computer as much as i thought i'd be!

i'm in a v relationship. i have one partner whom i've been with for about 7 years (r.) and one who i've been with for a year (c.). both relationships were close distance to begin with and are currently long distance, as they're in the process of moving to where i live now. both relationships are long-term and deeply committed - r. and i have lived together in the past, and we are all planning to move in together once everyone is in the same place. c. is definitely moving in the next 6 months; r.'s situation is more up in the air.

re: how's it working...the long distance has strained things a bit and may actually mean that the structure of my relationship with r. might change. things are working really well, though :) i think there might be a bit of growing pains if i were to introduce a new person but overall i feel really good about things. it's just frustrating waiting - c.'s really having a rough time where he is right now so we're all just ready for him to be in kansas.

i didn't plan for things to work out this way - i didn't enter into polyamory wanting any specific kind of arrangement, and i still don't - i'd be open to other styles in the future. it's just accidentally worked out like an episode of sister husbands or something ;) and it works pretty well for us.
