Some of us get a little wrapped up some times in the daily grind (work, home, work, home...rinse and repeat), and doing for others more than we do for ourselves.

So, what have you done for yourself today?

This morning, I took a few moments before work to look up strengthening exercises for kayaking. It has long been a goal of mine to learn to kayak, and the summer is not getting any younger.

What a wonderful idea for a thread. I too get caught up in the day in and day out sameness of my day. Sleep, work, take care of Mimi... rinse repeat... ugh!
For this moment I am doing nothing... well does drinking coffee constitute doing nothing?

Have a great day!

Replaced my old cell phone, with a new Lucid smart phone. Probably smarter than me actually but we will see. The old one was a good one though. Had it 3 yrs and it never failed me. I never had it cleaned and never had a minutes trouble out of it...um until I dropped it 3 times on the hardwood floor this weekend. So wish me luck with my new toy it will be a learning experience I'm sure.

I took myself to the store, and instead of spending every extra cent of my paycheck on fun stuff for the baby, and things for other people, I saved out twenty just for me... and bought myself gesso, and some other things that I have been needing for a long time but doing without. I felt guilty all the way through the cash register, but my artwork will thank me.

Love this thread idea :)

I'm another who tends to do a lot for others and leave myself off the list...

Today, I ate fish (which was fried...not the healthiest way, but a start), because I'm trying to eat more of it.

I also bought myself a really lovely soft green mid-calf length dress with floral detailing up one leg. All of my clothes are now far too big and shapeless....it's nice to get myself something pretty that fits! :)

I took a break.
I stood up for myself (against a previous coworker) .
I stood my ground.
I was assertive and behaved like the leader I am. (Assertive took me years to learn)
I walked away with confidence and self worth.
I took another break...
I treated myself to a small bowl of ice cream.

I've been telling a few friends here on bfp that I want to start doing things for myself - things I've wanted to do for a while and not to think of them as "treats" but things for me ... don't know if that makes sense.

Anyway, tonight I stopped at a small music studio, spoke to the owner and have booked myself in for singing lessons. I've wanted to do this for the longest and now I'm going to do it!

Yeah me!

I wish I didn't think of "doing for myself" as a treat, to be squeezed in after everything and everyone else, but as something integrated into my life, like breathing. In fact, many times we don't even breathe properly.

Anyway, today was two consecutive trips to the gym (which I prefer to the small exercise room at my complex), and now I'm YouTubeing my music and messing around on the Planet :).

I went shopping and bought some cool fishing shirts that not only are vented to keep a person cool, they have a SPF 50 rating too; I also bought a couple of pairs of cargo shorts and a pair of Lee Reserve shorts.

I did laundry for myself today, and cooked a good dinner. Then I cut up some old cotton boxers into small squares to make char cloth with and watched bush-crafting episodes on youtube. Fun for me, but not for everyone I'm sure. lol

Self administered pedi/mani. Black glitter polish on the toes of my super pampered and polished feet and clear on fingers of my, slightly drier than I'd like, hands. Having my hands in water 50 times a day and the bitter cold, biting winter winds don't help with that. Got to get myself some better kitchen gloves..... (or wear the ones I have ALL THE TIME instead of when I take those extra few seconds...)

*After thought* probably more than 50 times a day and I am not a clean freak.

A home-made mix of something like cocoa butter, jojoba oil/wax and argan oil will fix those drier than you would like hands.

In what proportions? Do you have a 'recipe'? Should I use Raw Natural Deodourised Cocoa Butter? (I've been googling)

I'd like to make a batch in time for my upcoming spa weekend 2nd/3rd March and gift jars of homemade hand cream to my two roomies. :)

Daktari

In what proportions? Do you have a 'recipe'? :)

Proportions are according to preference. Experimentation is the key. I personally currently use a mix with the greater proportion being jojoba, then argan, then evening primrose, with meadowfoam oil as the least. I use this on my face and hands.

Another good method is to whisk a little of the oils into melted cocoa butter and allow it to set to get a 'hand bar' that you can carry in a suitable size tiny 'tupperware'.

The cocoa butter would be a great barrier when used regularly/frequently if you have your hands in water a lot.

Add a little blissful ylang ylang and yer cookin' wit' gas!! :winky:

Ebay is your friend of cocoa butter. I don't think I've necessarily bothered with the deoderised stuff before. Food grade cocoa butter is what you're looking for.

In UK this the website I've recently discovered and can highly recommend their products and service.

Yup they do have it all. I buy their packaging too.

Can I recommend that you have utensils dedicated to making such products.

If you want a creamy texture for hands then look at shea butter or possibly mango butter.
I've always had a bit of a problem with mixing oils and butters. Sometimes they seem to granulate but I'm not sure why. One day I'll work it out. It's why I tend to work solely with oils nowadays and just have the odd pure cocoa butter 'muffins' for hands (yup, I really do set them in a mini muffin tin).

ps. with the link. Unless you're paying for next day delivery or some such I recommend choosing the cheapest of the postage options, it doesn't seem to make a difference to how quickly it arrives unless you pay scads more. Also found that orders made later in the working week seem to arrive more quickly for some reason...that's my experience anyway.

I remembered to bring home 24 cheese & jalapeno tamales, and then but them in the freezer so that I don't go hog wild on them, and eat them in a week. Moderation, moderation!!!

At the discount grocery store, I picked up some new shampoo and conditioner that is cruelty-free, 100% organic, made in the U.S.A., smells awesome, and is bottled in recycled plastic. Cheap too!!

I patted myself on the back, because despite feeling like doo-doo, I worked 12 hours today, talked to 120 people, and pre-made up time, that I am going to lose tomorrow when I leave early for an appointment with my surgeon. Go me!!!

no matter how exhausted I am or how tempting the thought ...
rather than going out to eat as the thought hit on my way home that I'd love a big fat cheeseburger, fries and a loaded appetizer from Friendly's...
I came home and lit my grill with mesquite coals to grill lean steak and fresh mushrooms ...instead of fighting traffic and just vegging out on the couch after burger and fries... I'm comfy in my warm pjs, on porch enjoying fresh air ..waiting on the coals and anxious for my yummy dinner that won't make me regret the calories or that bloated feeling ...

it's chilly out but sitting by the flames in my own peaceful space can do wonders...

Started feeling kind of not so good and abandoned outdoor chores, came inside at 1:00 this afternoon. Took a quick, cold shower, ate leftovers from yesterday, gathered the dogs. We stayed in the bed, napped, rolled around and played on the bed all afternoon. My friends call my bedroom "permafrost" because I have the ac so low. LOL! I have not mowed the lawns and normally, I would have pushed myself out there all afternoon. Nope, I chose to treat myself well instead. I can mow grass after work next week.

I grew up surrounded by Spanish, my grandfather was a well known interpreter/translator in Tucson. My friends, some family members, extended family, and neighbors all spoke Spanish around me. I understand a lot of Spanish, both spoken and written, and I can write in Spanish to an extent, but currently I can only speak a little bit of it. I've been pretty good at quickly picking up how to pronounce individual words, but I really want to be able to actively participate in conversations in Spanish. Despite two years of HS Spanish, I have thus far been a complete dolt, when it comes to conversational Spanish.

About a week ago, I ordered Pimsleur Quick & Simple Spanish CDs ($9.95). They arrived this week, and because I need to listen to them for 30 minutes a day for the next 10 days, I borrowed my neighbor's boombox. So, today, what I did for myself, was start my first 30 minute session.

So far, the program is amazing! I am already easily picking it up, and putting together sentences verbally. I had watched/read a lot of reviews of this program and Rosetta Stone, and I definitely think this one is the right choice!

I'm also using a fun/free program online, and on my iphone, from Memrise.com.

Wish me luck!

The more I think about it...I'm sure it's just going to end up being an expresso bar. Dang it, now I'm craving cupcakes of the designer kind!

I have baaaaaddddd dry cracked heel that bleed- or used to. Someone told me once it was because I wear flip flops all the time.. anyhow, I bought some stuff called o'keefes cracked heels (blue jar). you can get it at bed bad & beyond. Also, go into their bath section and find some socks (they have toeless ones if you cant take socks- I use toeless ones). they will have a liner on the inside, like a weird gel liner. at night, put the salve on and then slide on the socks before bed. I haven't had a cracked heel in a year.

Got pissed off trying to move the new step-ups ... they are for my larger dog. Anyway, these steps are very heavy (used 2x6 instead of 2x4's) and were hard to get into the back door and into the bedroom beside the bed. I bear-wrestled them to their new home, sweating and cussing all the way, knowing I should put them down and rest but I just couldn't ... guess I was in a "punish me" mode. I hate when I do that ... Oh.....not much, BUT I did sit outside waiting for the mail lady to come by. My curly hair, just a touch of lipstick, sunglasses, wrapped up in a dark grayish-dark blue sweater wrap, blue gloves, blue kitty socks and sandals.....smiling at passers-by who smiled back at me, lol. :eyebat:

One of my neighbors came out to see what I was doing
.....she said, "GIRRRRL, you look so fly!" I couldn't help but giggle because I didn't do much at all but roll out of bed and sashay myself down to the mail boxes. :giggle:

Most likely I will try to do something today....get out of the house, maybe go drop by my BFF house, see what kind of 'trouble' is going on today. Which I'll probably take some cookies over to her house. That should cheer us up! :bunchflowers:

Miss Katz, just remember if you ever need bail money call me...:hangloose:

Today I gave myself permission to leave work early, clean up my house a little, pour a glass of red wine, and visit with a couple of friends.

And I am NOT feeling guilty for having a leisure evening. I needed it. (and deserved it!)

If my door bell rang it would scare the you know what out of me. In 12 years my door bell has rung about six times. However, a sweet lady would be welcome and would bring a smile to my face. :)

Slept in late today, took a long hot shower abd just relaxed all day. Trying to prep myself for next weeks doctor's appointment.

I slept late, ignored my cellphone and the calls I needed to return, soaked my feet in Epsom salts, and that's about it.

Not very much. *but* I was leaving a 13 hour shift, after multiple days of extra long shifts in sweltering heat and humidity. I looked right and saw in the lobby, the therapy dogs were in house at work. There was a sweet quiet circle of residents and puppies quietly and happily and peacefully smooshed together. I dropped my bags and scooted over for some puppy love and got to love on three sweet puppies. I soooo needed that tonight and it was totally unexpected.

I took a break from life yesterday. I only talked to mom. I watched old movies from the 30's and 40's all day and till 2:00 am. It was lovely.

I just took a long hot shower.

I am going to trim my hair just a skosh, then give myself a nice manicure and polish my fingernails.

After that, I plan to read an John Grisham book, then make a simple supper of meat balls and an baked potato. Marinara sauce for the meatballs, and butter Sal and pepper for the baked potato. Hot cocoa for dessert.

Yesterday I was going to give myself a manicure and polish my finger mails and toe nails; but I'm doing it today because it's windy and the extra circulation of air flow from outside is drying my nails nicely! :balloon:

I've kept my temper in check....

Neighbors on my end of the universe were having behavioral issues last night, which woke me up at 3 am.... I tried cat napping earlier, but no go. So far, although still irritated, I've not blown any gaskets. :giggle: :| :eyebat:

Thankfully we had sunshine today, which made it possible for me to go on two errands: get copies of documents copied, and to drop by the grocery store to get a few groceries.

Right now though, I just took my evening dose of meds and I'm snuggled up in my bed with a heating pad and warm quilts, listening to an album of music by Tömasz Stańko, an Polish Trumpeteer and his orchestra.... very pretty recording titled:
