This thread is not my idea but I think it's an utterly fabulous and necessary idea to bring to fruition. Besides, I threatened Arwen publicly with starting it if she didn't. So here we all are.
I took the liberty of putting it here where I thought everyone...butch, femme, androgynous, two spirited, TG, FTM, MTF and every other color of our community rainbow would feel supported and welcome to post.
Here's a snip from the post that started this concept:
Arwen:
I keep thinking about starting a thread called Mirrors. In it, you could only look in the mirror for someone else and post what you saw about them that was positive.
It would be a positive thread and you couldn't deny what was said about you. Only say thanks and accept it.
We all need lessons in learning how to believe in the hype others tell us about ourselves.
I fully believe that Arwen is right and I believe in my femme sister. Please respect her idea and keep the concept pure. No negativity, whether aimed inward or outward. It's not welcome here.

To Arwen, my femme sister:
You radiate kindess from the inside out, like rays of sunshine.
Your laugh makes me want to laugh, even when I'm feeling grumpy.
Your hugs are the stuff that dreams are made of.
I love and covet your wild, beautiful hair.

Medusa,
I find you to be a breath of fresh air. Your love is deep as you are from the south. When I first met you and your other half years ago, you hugged me with such warmth, and conviction. It was a hug like I experienced from my beloved Grandmother, who I just cherish.
When I send you pms asking for you to help me, you answer me with joy. You don't talk down to me, or talk at me, or anything at all. You give me hope, and love. I appreciate that more than you will ever know.
This site you made a home for everyone. All walks of life. Abled and disabled. Thank you.
Love,
Andrew

I've always had a thing for redheads. Maybe it's because my hair gets more auburn in summer, but never quite 'officially' red. Or maybe it's the fire that burns so strongly within redheads that the only way they wouldn't burn up is if it filtered through their hair. Bottle reds too, because not everyone can carry fire on their heads, yanno?
You remind me of Lucille Ball sometimes. That's a very good thing. I think she was brilliant and there are days when you are just as funny as she, if not more so.
As Andrew mentioned, you are kind. You wear your kindness on your sleeve. Your spirit feels a little mom, a little favorite aunt, a little big sister, a little like the class clown, a little favorite teacher, and a whole lot like a good friend. And even though we haven't actually met in person, I do believe that I would be completely comfortable in your presence.

Gemme, I :stillheart: you for starting this thread!
I am going to hold a mirror up for Cara.
Cara, you and I have met at a Femme Swap at a Bash...in Vegas or Dallas ( i am time-challenged).
You have this adorably cute face with the sweetest pair of eyes. You are a woman with curves who really knows how to dress. I liked you when I saw you and am just sorry we don't live near one another.

I am going to hold a mirror up for Linus.
You are someone I am so very proud to call my brother. I don't use that term lightly ever. It's an important word to me. I want you to know what I see when I look in the mirror at Linus.
A man who is dedicated to being the best teacher he can be.
A man who is dedicated to creating a partnership based on love and respect.
A man who is not afraid to reveal his feelings
A man who knows how to love his friends
You share your journey so openly, Linus. I have no doubt that there are young transfolk alive because of your willingness to share and show the way.:cigar:

I am going to hold a mirror up to Greyson.
Greyson of anyone I have ever met you work the hardest to confront yourself every day. You are fearless at taking inventory. Sometimes too fearless. Sometimes You do not appreciate how deeply kind and caring You are as a human being. You are genuine and real. You are strong and smart. You are a wonderful partner and I am blessed to know You.

I'm going to hold a mirror up for Diva.
Diva, you are kind and generous to a fault.
You are a hella good cook and even better hostess.
You are a very talented writer (and this goes for Arwen too!).
I am in awe of your crafty skills (the kind with paper, stickers and scissors as well as the cerebral type).
Your home is one of the few places that I've felt completely at ease and at peace.
Arwen

I am going to hold a mirror up for PinkieLee.
You are, without a doubt, one of my idols for many reasons. I'll list a few.
Your ability to make someone feel like they are the only person speaking in the room. You put your heart and soul into the art of listening.
Your ability to mock yourself gently and with flair. I'll always remember the Karate Princess pose in the doorway at Diva's.
Your ability to mix and mingle with EVERYONE. You are like this amazing ambassadress (is that a word? Someone get me the DictionaryFemme! ......oh wait...) of all good things in Southern women.
I greatly admire the woman you are and hope to know you better as time goes by.

i love this thread. thank you for starting it Gemme/Arwen and participating in it everyone. my positive mindset has been getting rusty.
i will hold up a mirror for a pal who, though hy will never wander in here, deserves all the praise for which i can devise words.
to my friend Converse ~
you are one of the kindest people i've ever had the pleasure of knowing, even though i dont have the privilege of knowing you well.
you have adjusted my attitude, listened to my hurts, gently slapped inappropriate thoughts out of my head, reminded me to ask for what i want, been compassionate when i couldn't stop whining, allowed me the dignity of my mistakes without derision, encouraged me to make a fool of myself when it mattered most, bolstered my courage, been a sounding board for my confusion and prevented me from committing the worst of unforgivable crimes: throwing away my unconditional faith in love.
if it's possible to cherish a friend i've never met, then i cherish you. i am thrilled beyond limit to know that karma found you and so you found love.

I hold a mirror up for Medusa:
You are far more technically adapt and inclined than you realize. And more importantly, you add the most important ask to technology: a human feeling. You've made a community that is truly open and caring; that isn't an exclusive gated community but one that is welcoming and open to all who walk through the doors.
I hold a mirror up for Andrew:
You are a tall man who stands above others and you show a caring, sensitive side for those who are in pain. You care about others in a way that many refuse to do. You're honest and without pretension about who you are.
I hold up a mirror for Arwen:
You have always been just amazing as a sister. You always have great advice and good Tarot vibes when I need direction.
You share joy and happiness to those around.
Your literary talent and creative ideas are amazing.
Your laughter always brings a smile to may face.
Your sound advice has always helped when it was most needed.
And you were pretty astute in pointing out that my cap wasn't quite reflective of me even before I knew it. ;)

I hold a mirror up for The_Lady_Snow. You live your life unapologetically and are not afraid to be you, all of you. You have an amazing spirit. It lifts me up when I am down.
You are the best Goodwill shopper I've ever met.

I am holding up a mirror for Andrew.
You are sweet, encouraging and valuable.
I know it is hard for you to communicate online, but I think you do a great job.
You have taken your lemons and made some kick ass lemonade.
I wish this mirror would reflect to you that you are not less than. You are MORE than. I totally get that feeling of being overwhelmed by the smallest of things and wishing for things to just not be so hard. When you look in the mirror you might notice the hand reaching out to you. Begging you to take those hands and let them pull you to the light rather than putting a black cloth over said mirror and focusing on the dark.
You are welcome. You are valued. You have so much to offer to others in your same situation. When you look in that mirror you will gain strength from others willing to love you in those moments when you feel like you are not lovable.
I love the way you love your min-pin. You feed the birds, care for you neighbors and shine goodness. Your mirror will show you that with every dark side of things there is indeed a blessing that could not shine through had the darkness not floated around for a while before the strong light shone through.

i hold up a mirror for Violane, Fairy Crow Shaman. your words and your calling powers are mystical and beautiful and true. i believe in magic because you are yourself.
i hold up a mirror for every one of you who speaks their truth, using words that are personally meaningful and calling on experiences that i could never know entirely even if i stood side by side with you while your story unfolded, regardless of naysaying and derision. i honor you for every hard won realization and stumbling step toward personal enlightenment and i pray to all that is wise i may follow in your footsteps and never ever ever take for granted the work of those who learned the harsh beauty of life before i did.

i'm holding up a mirror for canmarielan for starting the 'biggest loser' thread and being an inspiration to me.
i'm holding up a mirror for lieslkate for having the ovaries to not let a rude and abusive asshat ruin her outlook.
i'm holding up a mirror for my little gemmie-pooh because she needs to look at herself more often and to appreciate what she sees.
i'm holding up a mirror for diva because she rocks my world in general.
i'm holding up a mirror for arwen because i re-read a bunch o'posts she wrote in a very divisive thread a while back and had to smile over the way she gently and oh so daintily slapped someone down for refusing accountability.
i'm holding up a mirror for jack and medusa and linus because this place is still afloat after all the techno-geekery that went on last weekend. i dont really understand how it all works but then, i'm just the decorative sort.
i'm holding up a mirror for my secret BFP crush because i like to watch her stomping through the threads kicking ass and taking names. my spine gets an inch or so longer every time i read something she wrote. (thanx to her i'm almost 8 feet tall)

Greyson is one of the most gracious guys I've ever had the pleasure of exchanging with—even briefly. He has a class about him that isn't acquired, but natural in his throughtfulness of others. I've noticed this. My regret is that we haven't exchanged more.

i'm holding up a mirror for any and all BFPlanteers i've offended, pissed off, wronged, skeeved, slighted, annoyed, hurt, mystified, and/or otherwise maligned.
thank you for being honest about the way my words and/or actions make/made you feel. i like it when people are straight with me in an honest and non-humiliating way. i know it's not easy to sit with the discomfort that discussions about hurt feelings and offensive words generate. i appreciate the effort it takes to have such conversations. looking back over the last 10 years gives me comfort because i've had to be smacked upside the head less and less, thank the Universe. i feel some of those smacks keenly still, but i know they were appropriate to the circumstances at the time and i'm glad i remember them if for no other reason than they sometimes make me hesitate before i engage in my own special brand of asshatery.
thank you to those who mentor me through my attempts to embrace my humanity, for witnessing my struggle to be less of a jerk and acknowledging same, and for being gentle with me while i flounder around like an idiot trying to avoid the unavoidable journey.

I'm going to hold a mirror up for Julie. I adore her for so many reasons. Here are a few.
She is dedicated to peace even if she has to fight for it.
She is a cancer survivor.
She has a sexy voice.
She makes me laugh.
She brought me candy.
She lets me call her Ginger.
She is someone I wish I lived closer to because I'd love hanging out with her more.
COUNTYFEM....I hold this mirror up for YOU!
While walking a harrowing journey last November...YOU stepped in, came to my side, and became my very best friend...for life.
You unselfishly gave your whole holiday season with your family to come and be with a total stranger...for SIX weeks...standing by my side for the entire surgery, 2 weeks hospitalization, and recovery....doing total care for me, staying on that short, gaucho cot in the hospital, losing sleep nightly, and still working your 50 to 60 hr. workweek in addition!
Not only THAT, but you moved me singlehandedly, save for the few hours help of a friend locally, YOU did the brunt of it...alone. I was of NO HELP! and sat idly by!
Out of all of this, you smiled constantly, were so gentle and kind to me, and gave of yourself so wholly!...to a total stranger! Not many folks would step in and do what YOU did. I have a very bestest buddy...for life...and I would have NEVER recovered and recouped as rapidly and as wholly as I have, if not for YOU!
Your selflessness, your compassion, and your committment to my recovery are just incredible! There aren't many folks like YOU left in this world...I will never forget your kindness and your wonderful friendship, County!!! I am indebted to you for life...I heart you...my very bestest friend.
YOU deserve this mirror..so take a bow....(as I am clapping wildly here for YOU are the epitome of what humanity, compassion, and devotion along with unselfishness is....an incredibly beautiful soul, loving heart, and infectious smile....thanks, from the bottom of my heart, my friend...always..Clay

Miss Tick, nanners and cinnamongrrl cracked me up this morning. Laughter is the best medicine for sure because I feel great this morning!
Thank you.
I’m terrible at receiving compliments, a problem a lot of people seem to have. I never know what to do or say and I try to minimize or deflect. But I also have a lot of trouble giving compliments. I always think the person will assume I want something or just think I am sucking up and not really believe what I am saying. But here might be a good place to give it a try because I don’t personally know anyone beyond what they post and consequently I wouldn’t really have an agenda for someone to be suspicious of.
Here’s a big ass mirror for ya:
Anya – She loves bad writing. That alone makes her tops in my book. But there is lots more about her to admire. Her posts are honest and heartfelt. She moves me with her words.
Dapperbutch – His presentation is soothing and his words are spot on. He is thoughtful and knowledgeable. He isn’t limited to any particular area and I enjoy reading all his posts. Just an all around honorable human being.
Gemme – She motivates me to stick to my exercise program and keeps me laughing with her awesome sense of humor. And she starts some very interesting threads. Not to mention she is an excellent writer and I enjoy reading all her posts.
Kobi – My feminist conscience and a brilliant debater. She is a tireless defender of women. She is ever watchful of the future of women’s rights, while never forgetting where we came from and the cost to get here. Thank you for taking the time to remind us of all the fabulous feminists who have come before and paved the way for us. You make me proud. I mean you Kobi. Okay the fabulous feminist women make me proud too.
Ms. Tinkerbelly – keeps me updated on the latest news for gay marriage
Martina – brilliant, interesting, opinionated, fabulous and just a pleasure to read. I pretty much thread stalk her.
The Lady Snow – My favorite oppression crusader. She watches all our backs and I thank her for that. It might seem a thankless task but it is noticed and appreciated.
Daktari – can always be counted on to make me laugh at some point during the day. Ya gotta love that!
Honeybarbara – Bright, beautiful, bold and bawdy. Not to mention just brilliant. A pure delight. I enjoy her posts so much!!
Kätzchen– We have some common interests and I can honestly say she always keeps me guessing, especially on the music threads. She is also one of the sweetest people.
Grayson – I always enjoy reading his words of wisdom. I miss his voice of lately.
Hollylane - Her brilliant mind coupled with her social conscience and her environmental understanding makes her someone I admire a good deal. And she writes an awesome haiku.
Corkey – Is someone who I respect a great deal on this forum. He is honest and down to earth. There are just some people you feel you have much in common with even without ever meeting them in person and he is just one of those people for me.
Andrea – Keeps her eye on those TSA agents. I can always find out what is going on by reading her posts. Thanks for that. I really appreciate people with a social conscience.
Cinnamongirl – she is very funny and makes laugh. Thanks for that.
Jesse – You too also crack me up.
There are several people who I respect for how they represent themselves here and would like to hold up a mirror to show them how awesome they are and to say thank you for being here:

To share this space with my wife, Truly Scrumptious and my sister, Slowpurr is such a treat. Truly Scrumptious you are so amazing, so kind and loving, so talented, so freakin brilliant it blows me away. I am the luckiest butch in the world, no contest, hands down! All that and the best, most brilliant, most awesome, sister ever just shows me how ridiculously fortunate I am. And makes it all the more fun to be here. Love you both so much.
I have no doubt I forgot someone or several someones whose posts are extremely meaningful to me and when it dawns on me I will be back to set the record straight.
Oh ya, since it was Gemme who went out of her way to get me a link to this thread and not for anything other than altruistic reasons, I must end this post reminding her what a brilliant, awesome, and funny human being she is.
Oh how could I forget
grabbing that mirror again:
Huge-Smile - I really enjoy reading her posts they give ME a huge smile.

I need to hold one up for PinkieLee.
People love Pinkielee because standing next to her is like standing in the sun on a beautiful day. Something about her presence makes you feel really, really beautiful and warm.
Even though people love them some Pinkielee, I love TONYA, the woman behind that sunshine smile.
Tonya is fucking funny. And a good friend. And an amazing listener. And she is *real* and I am beyond grateful for getting to know her better and better as the years roll by. Tonya is that woman who reaches out to people when they think nobody misses them and she is that woman that will keep it real with you.
And sometimes all she has to do is cut her big, beautiful brown eyes over at me from across the room and I can feel the "I got you, girl" even without the words.
Tonya is a beautiful woman on the outside but the inside is fucking spectacular. <3<3
Dee- the sweet kind friend that she is the way she has of just putting people at ease and the beauty she just radiates

Today I am holding a mirror up for Puplove to see herself as I see her.
A beautiful woman whose smile lights up the room. She knows how to make people feel welcome in her home.
Austin's premier party hostess, Pup goes out of her way to make you feel like you belong.
I also like that she is firm on her boundaries. I've learned from her.

Time to hold one up for Arwen.
I've had the privilege of watching Arwen through the years change and grow, stretch butterfly wings and re-center into a burning Phoenix. I have witnessed incredible generosity, incredible strength, and still a gentle and kind spirit full of joy and love.
Such an amazingly gifted woman and so very, very wise about people and the world. Arwen is Teacher, Lover, Beloved, and Student of Love all at the same time and her heart is blindingly brilliant with the shimmer of positive work.
For all of the ways she is beautiful (and there are a LOT, have you seen her legs???), she is the embodiment of quiet beauty and loud love. <3
Another person who I forgot to mention is:
julieisafemme – I really enjoy her smart, thoughtful and gentle posting style.

Duh! I did not see this until today, 10/14/2013. Thank you sweetie. Not sure what to say to this wonderful complementary post.

Time to hold up a mirror for LilMissunshyne!
A typical conversation might include many "GIRRRLLLLLSSSSSS!!!!" but it's because she gets it.
Sunshyne - You are a brilliant, wise, beautiful human being and a loyal friend. Getting to know you better over the last couple of years has been wonderful and amazing and such a joy. Having the privilege to witness you in this period of your life when all of your petals are laying open for the sun has been some sweet and joyous shit. Not many times have I been conscious of seeing a rose bloom but I know that this is what we are all beholding in you.
You are brave and talented and sexy as fuck and your kids as lucky to have you. Hell, anyone who has a piece of your heart is lucky. Your love is true and honest and I cherish you for all of the amazing ways you exist.
Rosita - Te adoro.
