Thought I'd start a specific thread for people who have basic questions that we can answer for one another.

E.G. "How do I post a picture in a visitor message?"

I thought it would be nice to have a home base thread where anyone could answer anyone's questions! And new members can also be directed here for asking and answering questions. I am hoping that with time it will have all the most commonly asked questions along with the answers provided by any member who has chosen to asnwer, kind of like a FAQ resource.

So please, anyone is welcome to ask or answer a question!

Excellent thread idea.

I hate having to bug Linus for little things I know lots of other folks do all the time.

In order to post a picture, whether the post is a stand-alone picture or a picture you want to include as an addition to a text-based post, you can follow the steps below, so a picture is visible in the post you wish to post.

Long Form Directions:

1) above the empty text box, you will see a row of formatting icons. The 4th icon is a picture of a postcard with a stamp on it, is the icon you will select when desiring to include a photo in your post.

2) On the web page of the photo you wish to include in your post, place your cursor over the internet address of the photo, right click on the address and then select "copy". Your cursor will now remember the internet address of the photo you wish to include in your post here.

3) Now, go to the row of icons above the text box here, select the post-card with a stamp" icon and another text box will appear. Inside the new text box, you will see the following highlighted: "http://". Clear this preloaded text from the box, so that the new box is empty.

4) Now that the photo stamp icon box is empty, place your cursor inside the box and right click again. Choose "Paste." The internet address for the picture you want to post will appear inside this box. Then click "Okay" in that box and your picture will appear inside the grey shaded text box that will appear in your forum board post or in the post you create on a personal message board on a friends page.

5) To post your photo, now click the "submit reply" button that appears at the bottom of the grey shaded text box and your post will appear on the forum board or as a photo in a message post on your friends page.

Short Form Directions:

1) Right click on the internet web address bar of the photo you wish to post and select "copy".

2) Return to the Planet in the forum you wish to make a photo post or on your friends personal message page and select the "post-card with a stamp" icon.

3) In the drop down menu, clear out the hyper link provided and insert the web address of the photo you wish to post by right clicking your cursor and choosing "paste" to insert the web address into the drop down menu box.

4) Click "okay" on the drop down menu box. Inside the grey shaded text box, your photo will appear.

5) To publish your photo post you will finish by selecting the "submit reply" button at the bottom of the grey shaded text box. Your photo is now published on the forum board thread or in the personal message box located on your friends page.

In order to post a music video, you will first need to select the "YouTube" icon which appears as the last icon in the row of icons provided in the text box provided to make a post.

1) Select the "YouTube" icon. It will appear as text inside the grey shaded text box and will look like this: [.youtube.][./youtube.]

Note: 'dots' were included in the illustration above so that the poster will know how the pre-loaded icon appears as text within the text box. There will be *NO* dots in your preloaded link.

2) Inside the youtube text, you will see a space between the bars. This is where you place part of the internet address of the link to the video post you wish to appear in your post. The portion of the video link that belongs in the space between the brackets is: everything that appears in the link after the "equal" sign.

I will use an internet link for a song by Sia, as an example
(except I removed the linking ability so you can see what I am talking about):

http:// www.youtube.com/watch (http://www.youtube.com/watch)? v = iRpzmAMsz90

3) Insert the characters that appear in bold lettering inside the brackets.
Click "submit reply" at the bottom of your text page and your video will now appear in published form.

This was a question I recently asked because I was making a post and when I clicked the "submit reply" button at the bottom of the text box, I discovered that I was no longer logged into the website and I lost my post.

While I am not particularly skilled at simplifying answers to questions like these, this is what I found out about my situation.

The reason why I inadvertantly was logged out when I thought I was logged in, had to do with the "Browser" I was using and not the usual issue of needing to clear out the cache of cookies that your OS stores in the section of your OS called "history".

I'm a self taught technology geek and my notebook is not the notebook is was when I bought it. My notebook now has two different platform browsers. One platform is "Firefox" and the other platform is "Flock".

In my case, I needed to be in FireFox browser mode.
Not the other. I'm still working with the other browser
and learning what I can and cannot do with my other browser.

So, if you're having a browser issue, you might need help other than the tiny bit of help I left here. I had to ask a tech geek friend of mine about my issue because I just wasn't 'getting it' until they sat down with me and showed me, on the twin OS I have on my notebook, what my specific issues were.

I am healed, for now.

These are exactly the kinds of things everyone struggles with when getting started. I think it would be great if everyone subscribed to this thread so that when questions come up we can help each other as quickly as possible.

One issue that has happened to me, and without exception, everyone I have spoken to is the "disappearance" of a lengthy post and the frustration that comes with it. I wish I had a real answer, but some have said they thought it was a time issue, or like above, a mystery browser thing.

One habit I started after it happened to me was to just type up lengthy posts in some other text document and then copy and paste it over into the reply box. It can be a word processing document, or any note pad. I frequently use a draft in email and don't address it, just deleting it after it is posted. If I am out with just a phone, I use whatever default notepad app is handy.

also subscribing.

For photos, I use photo bucket and find and store images there. I find it is less likely that a photo will be deleted if i do that.

Photobucket also has an add on feature if you are using firefox you can get the add on and then right click on any picture upload it to your photobucket and then get the link codes, it is the "direct" link code you want to use for posting pics here on the planet.

What is the difference (if any) between Visitor Message and User Notes?
Someone posted a Visitor Message at my profile and I didn't know how to reply, so went to their profile and sent a User Note thinking it was the same thing :seeingstars:

It's according to how they have their settings set . If you can't post a visitor message it's because you aren't on their friends or contacts list. They will still get the message in their user notes however.

It's really to do with if you're on their friend list? I thought it was about their basic settings not about friends lists. :|

i dont think this is right. in your Settings under Edit Options there's a place for you to check some boxes about accepting messaging. you can choose to do things like accept Visitor Messages from your friends and contacts ONLY if that's what you want, so if you dont check that box you can get Visitor Messages from anyone. AND you can also turn your Visitor Messages off completely. people can only leave you User Messages or Private Messages after that. (i think there's also a User Option to only get PMs from Admins. might be wrong.)

I know it's been a recurring issue for some, but I haven't seen any recent topics, so I'm starting this one -
I've tried Chrome (my default browser) and Explorer - both have the same result, a generic "error" page with a list of possibilities for the error (maintenance, server issue, etc). Both browsers are up to date and pop ups not blocked for this site.

Any ideas?

No.. don't (it never works from the front page and is a known issue). I'm trying to determine what the possible error is. You say it's a generic error. Are there any details that you can give? It sounds like a java issue (since the Chat uses java), either with an incorrect/incomplete version installed or the side-effect of anti-virus blocking it from running.

Here is the message on the error page:
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/addonchat.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

I get this when I try to see who's chatting, float or enter.

I'll check my antivirus and make sure the page isn't blocked, however - it usually notifies me when it's blocking something. Maybe I'll check that Java is the most current version.

Actually, if I try to not float and go straight into the room, I also get this: HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

If I try to see who's chatting: The requested URL /addonchat_who.php was not found on this server.

I I try to "float" I get "ClassNotFound" - when I click on a link to see error details, I get this:

I am not caught up on this thread so forgive if some or all of these have been mentioned but here's my .02: When I try to write someone a visitor message and see that their messages are closed, I take a look at their user notes. If they have a lot of user notes, then I get the gist that that's where that person doesn't mind receiving messages, so I leave what would have been a visitor message there. If the user notes are also empty, I get the sense that they are a private person and back off or PM them instead. Not saying this is "right," just saying this is how I think of it.

Also, just a general reminder to all (not to you), for those that respond to visitor messages from someone on their own page, it is not as effective as going to the other person's page and responding. The person will get it quicker. If you (again, not Samurai, just general you) respond to the visitor message on your own page, it might get buried and the person will have no idea to check back. I sometimes see new people do that, so I thought I'd mention it in this post.

Someone in the CIJS thread posted about not knowing how to post a pic, so I made a post trying to help and Kelt said I should put it over here as well, so here I am, cross-posting. :)

-----

Go online and find the pic you want to post - if it is a pic from your computer, you need to upload it to a hosting site first like Flickr or whatever. Personally, I use Facebook because it's easier for me to have all my stuff in one place. :winky:

When you find or upload the pic you want to share, open it in a new tab/window so you are not just saving the URL of a thumbnail of the pic. Then right click the pic, scroll to copy image URL and left click that to save the URL of the pic:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/394085_10100966350203470_42165141_n.jpg

Then come to BFP and go to the thread that you want to post the pic - click on the little picture icon up there:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/314205_10100966350033810_1107495723_n.jpg

A little box will come up asking you for the image URL - right click in that box and click on paste to paste the URL of the pic you want to post - making sure to paste over the "http://" that is already in the box - to do that, dont left click inside the box, just right click over the highlighted "http://" and paste your link:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/61486_10100966350113650_1858584237_n.jpg

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/543106_10100966372713360_1661742239_n.jpg

Click ok and you will see a lot of code in your post - it will be the URL of the pic you want to post in between 2 IMG tags.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/525507_10100966366865080_240404837_n.jpg

If you want to make sure your pic is posting correctly, hit preview to see it before you post it - that way if it is too large for the screen and people will have to scroll to view it or something, you can resize it and try again. :)

CIAJS ... I hope this helps!

I am answering this over here so I dont clutter up the CIJS thread with my post. :)

How does one resize a pic?

I, personally, go to this site (http://www.picresize.com/) - I like it because I can upload a pic from my computer to resize or I can copy/past the URL of a pic already on-line to resize. Then I save the resized pic to my computer, upload it to Facebook, grab the URL from there, and post it here. :)

I'll use pics for this one as well - once you try it, you will see how easy and fun it is and you wont be worried about resizing pics for this or any other site. :)

First, when you go to the above picresize site, you will either choose to upload a pic from your computer or you will enter a URL of a pic already on-line:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/68250_10100966781050050_1875300276_n.jpg

1. Choose "from computer" to upload a pic from your computer, then 2. click browse and choose the pic you want to upload, then 3. hit continue to upload the pic.

OR

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/14145_10100966781065020_1397022243_n.jpg

1. Choose "from Web" to use a pic already on-line, then 2. add the URL in the box, then 3. hit continue to use that pic.

(I chose one from my PC because I didnt feel like doing an on-line search for a random pic. lol)

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/61605_10100966781075000_1954317221_n.jpg

When you hit continue, you will go to this page - here is where you can do all kinds of things to the pic like crop, rotate, resize, add special effects, etc. In the above pic, you can see where you would crop, rotate, &/or resize using the drop down menu. The arrow points to the estimated final size after resizing and you can see that my pic is huge even when I choose the 50% smaller size. Ideally, for a site like this, you want to keep things around the 600 size, max - otherwise, the pic could be too big for people's screens, they may have to scroll to see it, etc.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/552325_10100966781084980_35600005_n.jpg

Above is a pic of the drop down menu in action - you can see that you have several choices, including manual - so like if you are trying to make an avatar or icon and the site is specific about the pixel size (typically 100x100), you can manually change the size of the pic to 100x100.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/18219_10100966781094960_301456427_n.jpg

The above shows my final choice for pic size - plus all of the other things I could do to my pic: special effects, saving it as a specific file, etc. For #4 Save As, I would leave all of that as the site has it because in most cases, you wouldnt need to change those options. When you are done with everything you want to change about the pic, click the "I'm done" button.

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/542612_10100966781114920_518766999_n.jpg

That brings us to the final page - you can choose view image, resume edit to go back and change more stuff, save it to your computer, or post it on-line somewhere. I usually click on view and then right click and save it because that's what I am used to doing, but your mileage may vary on that - it would probably be just as easy or easier to click on the "save to disc" button to save it to your computer - I just like to view it and see how big or small it is before I save it, that's all.

You can also see above those buttons what your file size was originally and what it is after the resize; and over to the right, you can see that you have 20 minutes to decide what you want to do on this page before the site wipes your pic clean.

Once you have the pic saved to your computer, you can upload it to Facebook, Flickr, whatever and from there, you can follow the other directions on how to post a pic to the site.

I hope that helps! :)

Daktari

Or...

Upload the picture to hosting site of your choice, ie. Photobucket, and they have their own resizing options.

Simples!

:chaplin:

Kelt

Or, I use photobucket and have never gotten the sizing tool to work for me. Even the newest version that came out yesterday. I will still try to work with it a bit for the all in one option, but in the mean time I will definitely try pic resize.

Thanks Parker for the step by step, the visuals really help me.

Another thing I have found on sizing, if I take a photo with my iPhone I can email it direct to photobucket and I asks me what size I want to send and it works perfectly. But if I take a screen shot on the phone and send it the size options are not available and it is too big. Will try the Parker option for that too.

One other thing, If you find am image in google images, mouse over it and at the very bottom there is a link for 'more sizes'. That will usually bring up a page with a ton of different sizes of that one image. I just grab the image code for the size I want. If it is for a post I try to make sure the larger of the two dimensions is 300 or less so as to not disrupt the flow to much.

I didnt know this - it's a very cool option! :)

Been getting asked this today/tonight:

"How do I put a thread on ignore?"

Here's the answer:

Just go into the thread (like you are reading or posting on it), then go to "thread tools" on the green bar, then select "ignore this thread" on the drop down menu. Voila!

You can also reverse that process if you decide to return to the thread.

Can I ask how you post youtube links?
---End Quote---
First, on the YouTube video, you'll see a link like "blahblah=blahblah. You highlight and copy everything after the "=".

Then come back here and in the response page, you'll see an "Youtube" icon. Click this and it comes up . Paste the link (remember, everything after the =)in between the borders. This should bring up the video link when you hit "post".

Parker
12-31-2012, 06:01 PM
For those, like me, who are visually oriented lol ......

Also, because I dont see the "=" sign on my youtube videos any longer -- and, of course, some people do it a little differently than I do so ymmv, take what you need and disregard the rest. :)

-----

First, the short version:

Take a link like this from youtube:
http://youtu.be/ZCFCeJTEzNU

Come to BFP and click the youtube button to bring up these tags:
[YOUTUBE][/YOUTUBE
(note: I erased the last "]" so you could see the tag)

Add this portion of the youtube link in between the youtube tags:
ZCFCeJTEzNU

-----

Next, the longer, picture-filled version:

Find the video on youtube that you want to share here - I chose the Silent Monks Singing Hallelujah because that one makes me lol:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/430863_10101037398023070_1778030151_n.jpg

Click on "share" to get to the youtube link:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/63627_10101037398033050_394753256_n.jpg

Highlight, right click, and copy that link:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/540953_10101037398038040_1065478069_n.jpg

Come to the Planet and thread to which you want to post the video - and click the "youtube" button:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/190628_10101037407643790_1584607205_n.jpg

Paste the youtube link in between the BFP youtube tags:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/531816_10101037398112890_1338268606_n.jpg

Erase what is underlined in red and keep what is underlined in blue so that your end result will look like this:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1563_10101037413691670_2046016053_n.jpg

And your video will look like this:

Here's how I find stuff.

If I know someone who has posted recently in a thread I can't find, I go to that persons page and look at Statistics, go to threads someone has posted in, and search their stats.
In this case Linus.

Sometimes you can find threads by using the Search tool alone and type in the name of the thread your looking for or do a more advanced search by clicking on Search then Advanced search and typing in information it asks for , it also let you use key words as well.

My question for help is how do you post a picture like a screen shot into a post? or a picture you want to post? I have yet to know how to do that. It's something new for me. I also would like to know how to make a link to a thread to be able to be underlined and give it a name? like go here and have here underlined or say link here or something like some of you all know how to do. This thread is very Useful to us all.

when I said picture above I meant a picture from my computer that is saved on it and post into a thread. there has got to be a better way to post it than having to upload it to a site and do it from there???? I don't like posting pics too often on sites I don't trust. Just sayin.

Linus

We don't allow it because of the amount of space it takes on our server (y'all like your LOLCATS too much). If you want to upload one, upload it to your gallery.

Since Linus already addressed your picture question, I thought I'd do a post for the other stuff: adding a link to your post and underlining it.

And honestly, whenever you (general "you") add a link, it is already underlined, so you dont need to add the underline tags, but I added those steps anyway because while a link is already underlined, it is not automatically in bold or italics and the same steps can apply to those.

Side note: this is a very long post with step-by-step pics which may seem tedious to people who already know how to do this, but if you have never done this sort of thing, skipping a step could make the whole thing seem confusing and intimidating, so I tried to include each step here (I also had to remove some of my smilies because we are limited to 18 pics/smilies, so pretend I added a winky-face here!).

-----

Everything you need for a post is at the top of your posting or editing box:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/521423_10101134907947400_1439157382_n.jpg

So I will show this 2 ways: first, posting a link and then adding the text to it and then I will show how to add a link to text you already have in your post.

First, you need a link - I just chose a link to your post:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/377622_10101134907967360_155512150_n.jpg

Then you go to where you want to post your link and click the little button that looks like the world with a chain link (see what they did there?):

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/179211_10101134907952390_1369640146_n.jpg

This box will then pop up:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/66988_10101134908057180_1068760036_n.jpg

Without left-clicking inside the box (the http:// should remain highlighted), right click and past the link you copied into that box and hit "OK":

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/66988_10101134908057180_1068760036_n.jpg

Your link, text, and tags will look like this:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/190393_10101134908067160_1765644626_n.jpg

In that highlighted area between your tags is where you would write the text that you would like your link to appear as:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/427336_10101134908142010_449804057_n.jpg

Then, you can highlight that text an add bold, font, or italics, etc (I added underline here, but again, you dont have to do that):

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/18319_10101134908206880_1984258657_n.jpg

Making your link, text, tags, and editing look like this:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/551330_10101134908211870_447323010_n.jpg

And your post would look like this:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/179204_10101134908256780_621171132_n.jpg

Now, let's pretend you already have a post with a bunch of text in it:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/69586_10101134908276740_907070464_n.jpg

Go get your link:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/377622_10101134907967360_155512150_n.jpg

Highlight the text you want to appear as a link and click the little world w/a chain link:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/285294_10101134908281730_1504817397_n.jpg

Paste your link into the box and hit "OK":

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/539538_10101134908326640_365735394_n.jpg

Keeping the text highlighted, you can then add your edits, like bold, font, or italics, etc (again, it will already be underlined when you post it):

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/487993_10101134908356580_481544646_n.jpg

Your post with text, link, tags, and edit will look like this:

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/21830_10101134908366560_457491865_n.jpg

And your finished post will look like this:

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/69642_10101134908391510_866144531_n.jpg

Something I have done before and would suggest to anyone new to this sort of thing would be to open up a post and start playing with the edits. You dont have to actually "submit" the post to see what your post would look like, you can hit "preview" and see what it will look like and then go back and edit, playing around with the buttons, links, etc a little more.

Hope that helped a bit! :)

Thank you Parker. It seems easy enough to follow. And I never thought about just playing around with the buttons before, was afraid I would end up posting something I didn't really want posted. LOL
Again, thank you to everyone that helps out in this thread,it's much appreciated.

PS. I was talking about being able to post pictures in the "Find Me a picture of" thread and that sorta thing. Do I still have to upload them to another site, then grab and post them from there to the thread?
And, do I have to be a paying member to be able to have some tiny pics at the bottom of my signature line, like some others do ?

And if you are talking about posting pics from your computer, then yes, you have to upload them elsewhere first. Allowing people to use this site as a place to upload pics from their PCs would use up so much space, I cant even imagine! I, personally, use my Facebook - others use Flickr, Photobucket, etc. - and when you upload it to a site like FB, just grab the URL and bring it here.

If you are talking about using something that is already on-line that you found, then no - you just need to grab the URL and post it using the little picture button.

This post (http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?p=696638#post696638) is where I show how to post a pic in a thread - and the same instructions can apply to your sig line. Just go to "edit signature" on your control panel and you will see that it looks very similar to posting on a thread so you can follow the same instructions on posting a pic there; and you can also hit preview there as well so you can see what your sig will look like before submitting it. :winky:

There are a couple of ways to go about this but most are about the same in terms of difficulty.

This is what I do:

I find my video and copy the link and put it in the post I want it to be in. Then, I select all the text from the beginning http to the = sign and delete it. If a link has &feature after the url, you can delete that too. Take what's left and select it then click the youtube button at the top right of the post. It will put youtube and /youtube in brackets on either side. Preview it to make sure it's good to go and then submit.

For your link, your url would be uMnbFq8vpZs. With the brackets, it would look like uMnbFq8vpZs [\youtube] but without the spaces. Those are to show you the formatting.

Here is the finished product:

[YOUTUBE]uMnbFq8vpZs

Thought I'd start a specific thread for people who have basic questions that we can answer for one another.

E.G. "How do I post a picture in a visitor message?"

I thought it would be nice to have a home base thread where anyone could answer anyone's questions! And new members can also be directed here for asking and answering questions. I am hoping that with time it will have all the most commonly asked questions along with the answers provided by any member who has chosen to asnwer, kind of like a FAQ resource.

So please, anyone is welcome to ask or answer a question!
Bumping this thread for those that don't know it exists. Please feel free to ask questions and find solutions to your answers within this thread.

Are you talking about the feature that shows the Recent Visitors to your page? If so, just click on the little arrows to the top right of the Recent Visitors box so it will not show it anymore..... it makes the box scroll up and close, but still leaves the name for it and the arrows to reopen it. I hope that's what you are talking about.

Okay I've got a new one.

So now that I've gotten used to putting pictures I want to post in threads on external site (photobucket), now I would like to post one of the pictures from my photobucket account into the gallery. I'm not finding any way to do that.

In the gallery it seems to only want to accept pictures that I upload from my computer. Is this the case? What am I missing?

Thanks for any ideas.

Yep - for posts and signatures, use a link from an outside hosting site embedded in between the 2 img tags - for the gallery, upload them straight onto the site from your computer. :winky:

Ahh, Parker to the rescue. Thanks buddy.

Kind of a bummer though, I'd gotten used to taking pics with my phone and just sending straight to the outside site for dispersal, bypassing messing with the 'puter at all.

It's good to have an answer.

If you have internet on your phone, you can always come to the site and upload the pic from your phone.

I did it just now - I turned on my phone's wifi (because I'm home - away from here, I'd use 3G mobile data), came to the site via my phone, went to my gallery, hit upload, then took a pic of my PC screen with your post on it and uploaded it to the BFP gallery directly from my phone (see my gallery). :)

Let's assume I'm a neophyte; safe assumption.

When I take a picture on my phone it goes to an onboard camera roll. From there I hit the share button at which point I can email it to my photobucket account (what I do now), or text it to an individual. I also have options for Twitter and Facebook which I do not use. Beyond that I can assign it to a contact, print, copy, or use as wallpaper.

Would I be using one of these options? Or going from my phone's browser and this site to navigate back to the camera roll?

I am on an iPhone 4s.

Thanks for all the help. :glasses:

hey there Kelt - go to your gallery.. at the bottom there's an upload photo choice, click it.. then chose upload and you should be able to upload an existing photo from your phone :)

Okay, now I know what I wasn't doing.

I kept looking at the options on my computer screen and couldn't figure out how that would help. I found that when I opened the 'choose file' button from my phone I was presented with an entirely different set of options than when I am on the computer. I didn't know that would happen, it does go back through the phone browser to the camera roll.

Apparently it helps to look at the correct device.

Hi .... I am having a problem posting pictures .... looking for some help.

A couple of members helped me figure out that I needed a photobucket account. I now have that. But when I download photos to my smart phone and then upload them to photobucket account I get a "file type not supported" message from my phone.

Any thoughts on what I can do?

It may be your phone doesn't support the file. Try from a laptop or PC.

mopsie,
It could also be that the file is too large, you may need to resize it and make it smaller. Look up picresizer on the interweb an see if you can use that to resize your pic and download it to your phone that way then upload to gallery.

1) Is there some sort of setting in my Private Message folder where I can see the messages I've sent? From what I can tell, my sent messages get deleted automatically. Sometimes my messages don't go through (I'm using a phone and ipad) and I'd like to see when they don't so I can resend.

2) ... I can't remember what I needed to ask. Can y'all help me with that, too? LOL!

If you tick the box 'save a copy of sent messages in my Sent items folder by default' option in EDIT OPTIONS of your user control panel you can go in there and check that the message was sent.

Can't offer anything for question no.2 :)

OK, when I try and post a picture I get the link only that posts.

I go to FB, and copy in the addy window of the pic I want,
then open the pic icon and delete the https: stuff there,
paste my copy of the web addy
then post,
and what comes up every freaking time is the link and not the pic.

What am I doing wrong? UGH! I don't do this often enough to remember from time to time, so I WILL copy and make a word document just to be able to look it up when needed.

here is an example of what happens....

To post a pic here, you need the url of the pic itself, not the link of the page the pic is on. :)

So when you go to that link on FB, right click the pic and choose "copy image url" - or something similar, based on what browser, etc. you are using.

For your pic, it looks like this: https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/q80/s720x720/992893_600817066619635_498223762_n.jpg

See that .jpg at the end? You should always see that.

Then come back here, open your post, choose the little yellow pic icon, insert that image url (making sure you only have 1 http://) and that's that. :)

So your pic will show up like this:

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/q80/s720x720/992893_600817066619635_498223762_n.jpg

I got an email the other day that had the Apple logo and purported to be from iTunes.

The return email address was iTunes Connect.

It looked very official and stated I needed to update my iTunes account.

It asked for confirmation of email address, my credit card number, the security code and then the massive red flag:

My social security number!

I knew it had to be phishing.

I reported it to Apple without responding to the email. Apple /iTunes said they will never ask for credit card number in an email and absolutely never will ask for your social.

Just an FYI reminder about phishing emails.

Yeah, I saw something about this on a hoax page I follow on FB and I was totally going to say that the instant they asked for a credit card number, it had to be phishing - add that onto them asking for SSN and no way is that for real.

A good rule of thumb online is that no company will ever ask for your password, credit card number, or SSN via email. Any email that asks for any of those things is phishing for your personal info so they can steal your identity &/or get into your accounts.

Good catch, Anya! :)

I think it would be cool if it was recorded and posted like the, "State of the Planet", videos Medusa did a few times when the site first opened.

It would be fun to see the exchanges between people, too. It would make me feel like I was there.

ETA: The only problem would be people who didn't want to be recorded. I respect that.

Much talk on Stay in Little Rock, Explore other cities and styles of Reunion get-together.
We can talk about anything, as seen in the thousands of thread and posts. (red flags and dire consequences are held on an individual basis, as we are so very unigue. Some folks off on tangents get a time to ponder their thoughts, such as sitting in the corner for a child).( I know I got a "notice" one time, and thought about what and why I was singled out. I wasn't.the other person was too, and I spose we deserved it. It did make me realize, my words affected anyone who read them, and I would never want to do that. ) Besides, can't we all just get along.

Lucky for you, I'm up late tonight and had time to consult a manual for your specific problem.
Here's what I found out ;) :

A - There's a good chance that the reason the formula offered to help you post a picture, does not fit your specific device.
B - Your device possibly comes with a complicated language suite which, when the user (you) tries to make a post with a picture, the language suite cannot properly untangle the mishap between New Zealand semantics vs. English-based speaker semantix.
C - Speaking of New Zealand, I found out that it's nearly 8K+ miles from the US mainland, therefore, because you're there and we're here, there's a slight chance that applying a remedy might work.
D - The Remedy: According to the fake diagnostic manual in my library of manuals, it recommends, and it's not a light suggestion either, to find the nearest Femme in your neighborhood (or town) and pull them aside to show them your device and explain to them how you need their help to figure out what to do next. Fortunately, this remedy duals as a back-door approach to flirting with said Femme from your hometown neighborhood and also acts as a natural invitation to join you at this website, whereby both of you will naturally become the best of friends and therefore, it's likely you'll not only solve the "why I can't post a picture" problem, but also benefit by having an enjoyable mutual dialogue with a beautiful Femme who resides near you.
Seriously though, I'm not sure how to help you. But I'm thinking that it's an issue directly associated with the device you are using. Are you using a computer (i.e., a notebook or a desktop or something like that)?? Or, are you using a particular kind of phone (Android)? I think possibly if you talk it over with Parker or Linus (if they've got some spare time on hand), maybe either one of them will be able to help you figure it out. If not them, maybe another member on the boards will be able to help you sort it out; hopefully they'll come along soon!

Sorry, puddin', I wish I could have been more helpful
(I'm hoping my fake analysis gave you a laugh or two, though).

I had a thought - I was thinking of posting a pic of something in a thread but posting it to my gallery first, then I remembered that you (general you) cant grab the url of the pic from the galleries here bc you cant right click the pics (to keep people who dont own them from saving them, I assume), so I was going to grab the link in the address bar and just link to the pic in my gallery.

It made me wonder where you are getting the url for the pic(s) you want to post in threads/sig - are you right clicking and selecting "copy image url" or are you grabbing the link from the address bar?

Hiya I was asked to post this question here so here it is: where is the photo gallery thread? thanks!

I believe that thread was deleted - the owners created it when the gallery went down, but once the gallery was back up, they closed and *I think* deleted the thread.

You can get to your or another specific member's gallery as Gemme suggested: click on the "My Photo Gallery" link to the left of your/their posts, just under your/their avatar, join date, and location.

If you want to go straight to the main gallery page, you can do so from the BFP home page - to the left of the screen, there is a column of black buttons with pink lettering. Third one from the bottom, just above the chat room and home page is "Photo Gallery." Click that and you will be on the gallery's main page. From there, you can click on random photos, see the most recently uploaded, look in specific categories, or go to your own gallery by clicking on "My Photos" in the top pink line, just below the green line with things like User CP, Community, and Arcade on it.

If all of that was a bit much or confusing (I am more visual myself, so written directions dont always work for me), there is a thread called BFP How To Videos (http://www.butchfemmeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7021) in this same "Questions from Members/ Troubleshooting" forum that has more info on the gallery, how to get there, and what to do when you're there. :)

Here you go Okieblu, this is a step by step way to do that from your computer.

Not claiming to be an expert, but I will try to help. If your membership level is BFP supporter II or above, you should have the option to choose a custom avatar as long as it does not exceed the maximum size. If you click on User CP, look on the left hand side of the page and there is an "edit avatar" option.

TruTexan
10-14-2014, 09:30 PM
I think Mel C is right, if I recall, and I'd like to add that if you are a free membership user, you cannot use a custom avatar under your chosen name as you've seen others using. But, If you go into chat however, you can upload a pic there and use it in the chat room for a custom avatar in chat only.

You can also post a picture of yourself if you choose to do so, in the Gallery,it's listed on the left of the main page just click it.

The more people send you reps and thanks, the higher the number will go until it hits a wall and cannot go any further. You won't get anything for the points and you can't exchange them for anything.

They are just pretty, really.

Thanks, Gemme! How do you go about sending someone a rep? I was just looking at my User CP for the first time and noticed that someone left me a message regarding a post that I made. Is that the only place that those messages will show up? In other words, is that the only way that you will know if someone left a message about one of your posts...by checking your User CP?

If you look at someone's post, you will see three symbols on the left at the very bottom of the post and under where the screen name and all that jazz go. The one in the middle is for leaving reps on that particular post. If you hover the mouse over it, it will say 'reputation for CherryWine's post' or something similar. If you just want to leave a 'thanks' without words or a personal note, then look to the bottom right of the post. There's a Thanks button. Please keep in mind that you can leave a rep and then thanks on the same post but cannot thank a post and then leave a rep. Tricky!

Yes, the User CP at the bottom is where your reps will show up and it will only show you the most recent ones. You will also get notifications in the box at the top right of the screen that's gray and says 'Welcome, CherryWine.' for private messages as well as for public notes left....kind of like a public rep.

You have the option of turning these features on or off under the User CP function, I believe.

I know several people have mentioned not being able to post reps from their tablet or mobile device, but I think I may have found a work around. You can open a memo or word processor app, type in your text, and then copy and paste it into the rep form. It is kind of a pain in the ass, but it does seem to work for me.

Not sure if this was the best place to post this, but I didn't know where else to put it.

What TruTexan said - that is exactly what I do with my phone pics: I upload them to my PC or my tablet then come here on my PC or tablet and access the site from there to upload the pics here. You could of course access the site from your phone (is it a smart phone that can get you online?) and upload from there. I havent done that, so I dont know how easy or hard it is, but I have heard of people doing it that way.

Good Luck! :)

You have to upload them to a program such as dropbox or photobucket then follow the link to post pics. You can not upload directly to this site from your computer.

Hi,

Hey Chad ~

Go to picresize.com (www.picresize.com) - this is a free online service that will allow you to change the size of your pic(s). Simply upload your pic(s) there or use the url of a pic already online and then resize the pic to something this site accepts. Once you have changed the size to a more manageable size for this site, save the pic onto your computer or phone bc it will not save on that site, that is just a resizing site.

Once you have resized your pics & saved them, you can upload them to the gallery here (or to your profile album) by going to your gallery, clicking my photos, then click upload, and upload them there by clicking on choose file.

If you wish to add photos to a post or comment, you must first do as Corkey says and upload them to another site. I use Facebook, Corkey is suggesting drop box, which is also a good choice. Once you have uploaded your pic to the outside site, grab the pic's url and you can now add that pic to a comment or post by using the pic icon (yellow square w/a mountain peak on it).

If you have any other questions or if I am not making sense, please feel free to ask again here on this thread.

If you look under "thread tools," which is the first selection to the right of the pink bar that you see at the top of the thread (just scroll up to the top of this thread to see it, there is a drop-down menu that says "ignore this thread."

I haven't used it so I don't know how well it works, but you might want to try going into the thread you want to ignore, click on "thread tools" and then "ignore thread."

Dapper,

Download all types of freeware at cnet.

I like "snip-it" for screen captures ... use it about everyday at work. Easy to learn/use and you can get just a piece of the screen if that is all you are interested in.

Here below is the link pointing you in that direction. You can just search along the lines of "free download screen capture snip-it software."

www.cnet.com

Always notice cnet's ratings on their freebies software. Too, ensure it is compatible with your particular platform. It should indicate the operating system. Examples: windows, mac, etc.

If cnet gave it a poor rating, you don't want it. Download the free versions.

Lots of goodies there. Have fun! :)

more direct download links may be more helpful

for snip-it:

http://download.cnet.com/s/snip-it/android/

search for whatever you need here:

http://download.cnet.com

good anti-virus there too

*note: some might not be rated yet so get a review by googling it first for reliability before you download

RockOn, thank you for your extensive information. nycfem, thanks for joining in, as well (and actually, I am not very good with "the obvious"!)

But, I guess I shouldn't have said screen shot. I actually would never take a picture of a post here and send it somewhere....I know this is an open message board, but it would feel wrong!

What I want to do is that thing where you put a link of an old post inside of a new post you are writing.

Gemme, I think I have seen you do this before? This way I don't place a link to a thread and then tell the person to find post #48395720.

I just go to the post and click on the number in the right hand corner. Then I copy the web address. After that, I create a new post (or reply) and insert a hyperlink (the globe with a chain at the bottom). Then I paste the address I copied. When I'm really being clever, I type something like "click here" and highlight it before I hyperlink so the link address isn't visible in my post.

Just some suggestions I've seen from other people having the same issue. Hope one brings it back for you.

User Notes ... is there an alert (notification) when one receives a Note? I was unaware that I had received a Note.

Go into the gallery. Click on "My Photos". Then over on the right side you will see "Edit Photo" click on that. Then at the bottom you will see the option to delete the photo.

Hope it works!

I'm having problems signing in and playing games in the arcade. I haven't signed in for so long because I'm logged in automatically but now I'm being prompted to do so. Okay so I go to do that and fireSignFemme comes up. Hmm that's not right should be FireSignFemme so I try that. Now sometimes I'm able to log in other times it shows I'm blocked and need permission. Can't fix this.

Second issue when I go to play in the arcade I get the normal click to enable flash player and I do. Then I'm prompted to allow flash player which I do and normally that does the trick. Now though it is requiring me to right click to run adobe flash player. I do and clicking Adobe flash, which is gray does nothing. Then I try clicking on run this program and again nothing.

I've been googling for the flash player problems but all advice is from long ago and not working. Anything new says others are having same issue. Also while on the subject I'm getting a lot of messages that Google isn't going to support adobe flash anymore and then what of the arcade once that happens?

Thanks to anyone able and willing to help.

Oh no, I love playing flash games! Sorry, I don't have any advice to offer, but I too am interested in an answer from anyone who has one.

I think... that's only if you use Chrome as your browser. Why they'd go that route, I don't know. So, other browsers should still work.

Fixed it. I had to update adobe flash. Still haven't figured out why I keep having to log in though. Weird. When I use FSF it lets me in but only have access to certain parts of the site. If I use fireSignFemme then it lets me in and do whatever. However it still isn't keeping me automatically logged in no matter what I do, check, click. Odd. Well I must have done something to mess it up that I'm not remembering. Anyhow if people are running into simillar in the arcade that seems to be a fix, at least temporarially.

I am getting an error message when I try to upload pictures to the gallery that the file is too large. Also is there an option to add a picture to the avatar? Thanks so much for any help.

I would try reducing the size of the file in Photoshop or something similar. Maybe take a screen shot (https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&source=hp&ei=2DYbYJfUCNja-gSXxY6QCQ&q=screen+shots&oq=screen+shots&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzIHCAAQsQMQCjIECAAQCjICCAAyBAg AEAoyAggAMgQIABAKMgQIABAKMgQIABAKMgIIADIECAAQCjoLC C4QsQMQgwEQkwI6CAgAELEDEIMBOgUIABCxAzoLCC4QsQMQxwE QowI6CAguELEDEIMBOggILhDHARCjAjoLCC4QxwEQowIQkwI6B QguELEDOg4ILhCxAxCDARDHARCjAjoICC4QxwEQrwE6BQgAEMk DUKsMWIodYO8eaABwAHgAgAFyiAHdCJIBAzguNJgBAKABAaoBB 2d3cy13aXo&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwiXoO6M9M7uAhVYrZ4KHZeiA5IQ4dUDCAw&uact=5) of the photo and up load the screen shot. Maybe someone will have other suggestions if this doesn’t work for you.

I use imgur.com to host my photos, and it gives me a choice of what size I want to upload. Then it gives me a link to use for BFP. I usually choose the medium or large thumbnail size. Good luck!
