View Full Version : Sweet Treats Exchange - 2012

QueenofSmirks
10-20-2012, 06:58 PM
Hi all! I would like to coordinate a sweet treat exchange. I did search for threads of this nature already, and I saw that there was a holiday cookie exchange last year. I don't want to encroach on that one, and this one is a little different, so I'm prepared that we may not get a lot of responses if people would rather continue with the other one. In any case, I'll put it out there and see what we get! :)

Here's how it works:

1. Each participant agrees to send 1/2 dozen (6) cookies or other sweet treats to 3 other people, for a total of 1 1/2 dozen (18).

2. Each participant will send me their mailing address which will go on a master list. Once the list is closed, I will split the list into groups of 4 and email each person their group list. Each person will mail their cookies/sweet treats to each of the other 3 people on their list, between December 1st - 31st, so everyone will receive 1 1/2 dozen cookies/sweet treats.

It's that simple :)

So... if you're interested, please email me at queenofsmirks@msn.com:
1. Your name and mailing address.

2. The cookie or sweet treat you intend on making. This doesn't need to be set in concrete - if you change your mind later, it's not a big deal :)

3. If you live in the U.S., please state whether or not you are willing to ship outside of the U.S.

I will be compiling the master list through November 20th, and will distribute it by November 30th.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

I'm interested also. I do love to bake this time of year. I'd like to know what all people are making for goodies so I can balance it out with something not SO similar. Teddy has made a planner out of me!! :tea: <<<< for the goodies!

In case my original post was too confusing about this... I wanted to clarify...

Each participant will send 6 cookies/treats to Person A, Person B, and Person C on their list. So, in total, each person will send 18 cookies, split between 3 recipients. Of course, if you want to send more, you can! I'm not going to penalize anyone LOL

I love to bake, but don't do it very often. This is the perfect excuse! Looking forward to it, even if there are only 4 of us. LOL

Im in! I will be sending either carrot cake or red velvet cupcakes, possibly muffins! Don't worry, I have the little tins to mail them in. They have cream cheese icing and are really yummy!!!
Question: Lets say I get my 3 people, do I send an email asking if they like cupcakes or my muffins? How does this work? I am also willing to send to more than 3!

I want to do this, but right now my brain won't untwist the directions....lol

So....we sign up and then QueenofSmirks assigns each of us, 3 people to send sweets too??

I'm having trouble figuring out how we know who we're sending to and how we're gonna make sure everyone gets sent to.

But then again, I've only had one cup of coffee and I took tylenol pm cause my head's hurting. That could explain my confusion. :seeingstars:

I am in!!! I will email you this evening/tomorrow. I am not sure yet what I will bake though. Probably M & M cookies.

Question:
If anyone has an allergy is it ok to indicate as such? My son is allergic to nuts and while I do not mind receiving cookies with nuts in them, I WILL need to know so that I know to not let him have them.

Thanks so much!!!

EDIT to add: I am willing to exchange with more than 3 other people. I always bake a ton of cookies so I do not mind baking on up to THREE lists.

I'm having the HARDEST time deciding what to bake.

So far I've narrowed it down to.....fudge, in some form.

Everything else that's exciting me has cream cheese in it and I don't think that travels well. (Actually, QueenofSmirks, kindly let me know it doesn't travel well so thank her that I didn't poison you all)

I am not much of a baker, but I got a hankering for something sweet last night. I got a recipe from a lady in my bowling league called Chex Mix Caramel. It is a really good tasty treat and I tried making a batch last night and I was successful! I just munched some more this morning for breakfast. Anyway, I will join in if this an acceptable non cookie, brownie type treat. I would send a quart size ziplock baggie full, which is about 12 ounces....I just weighed it! LOL:)

Just for the sake of knowing....how many people are actually IN? I've been getting an idea of who's making what. I think fudge is a great idea...wish I still had my recipe for fudge made with baby ruths!!

For Ms Femmesational... I personally think you cant go wrong with a brownie...I'm meandering down that path myself....along with cookies...and maybe mini breads...just to get an assortment....or mini muffins...? I too had to reconsider my more typical seasonal bakies because of cream cheese content...sighh......

Ms Queenie....rice crispy treats are always a fan favorite! AND they do travel super well...good thinking!! They can even be cut into shapes....and colored...limitless possibilities!

I'm sorry, Rook, I never received it. As a safeguard, I posted in this thread that if anyone didn't receive a response from me, then I probably didn't get theirs and they should resend it. I checked my spam folders as well, I didn't see anything from you. I tried to send a PM to you but your account isn't accepting PMs. Sorry, hopefully it pans out next time.

Hmmm, best laid plans, I miscalculated how much to make. So, i have to plan another evening of sweet treat making. I have to clean everything and sterilize to make sure no peanut oil is anywhere. :)

I, too, am on the sick list, so I postponed until I'm feeling better and can de-germ the house. I'm on the mend, so maybe this weekend :)

I got mine Wed and I love it! Thank you for such an awesome treat! :)

All of mine were baked last night and taken to the post office this morning. So, next week, everyone on my list should receive either M & M cookies, triple chocolate cookies with butterscotch chips, chocolate cherry coconut cookies or a combination of the three. If you indicated an allergy to anything, you got M & M cookies.

edit to add: The M & M cookies are crispy cookies like Chips Ahoy cookies. If you are a fan of chewy, my apologies, this is how they turn out and they are my fave so they are the ones I share with people.

i was going to suggest including the recipes with the treats.....that way you can add to your recipes AND know if there's anything you shouldn't have.....

I did not include a recipe. I have been baking the M & M cookies since I was 16 so there is not a recipe I can share.

The people on my list indicated an allergy to coconut, nuts and aspartame. None of those are in these cookies. They were the first to be done so they were not in contact with anything but I do bake with nuts a lot so keep that in mind.

For the person with the nut allergy, you got half a dozen M & M cookies and in a separate bag, there are two chocolate cherry coconut cookies. I was not sure if the nut allergy extended to coconut.

I did not do pretty containers, just Ziploc bags. By sending this way, the U.S. packages were (more cost effectively) sent out priority mail in the small boxes.

I'm being stubborn about baking the day before I ship, which is why I still haven't baked! I could have had them done on almost any Saturday, but wouldn't be able to ship until Monday, so I didn't. I'm going to try to bake them tomorrow if I can find the time. Next week is Finals, and then on Saturday, I leave for Vegas!!! So, it might have to wait until I get back but they will definitely go out by the Dec 30th "deadline"!! :)

I have something waiting at the post office for me. Could be something I ordered from E-bay but I really hope it is treats ;)

Someone sent me a really awesome looking tin of goodies but apparently it was not meant for me to have them. When I opened the box, the tin had opened in transit and all that remained of the treats were crumbs. The box was literally full of shattered treats and tissue. :(

So, whoever sent this, I truly appreciate the time & effort you put into it and I really wish I had been able to enjoy what was sent. Thank you; maybe next year we will be on the same list again :)

Welllllll, treaters.... It's been awfully quiet in here! Who has received their treats?? I was out of town, just returned last night, and was too tired to check my mail, so I may have some surprises in my mailbox as I type this! My goodies went out last week - the ones I sent to Canada will likely get there next week, but perhaps the end of this week. I will apologize in advance if they are dried out by then - I would normally wrap cookies in plastic, but these said to store "loosely covered".. so... I hope they are in good shape when they arrive :)

I got two out of four (I do not *think* you and I were on each other's list). One of the treats was super amazing and one did not survive transit but looked like it was quite lovely when it started its trip :)

I could account for the other one (now two) that I received. But, I am glad to know WHO it was who sent me the ones that ended up damaged. I could not thank anyone for what looked to be a great deal of effort and thought and I like to be able to thank someone when possible. Despite not getting to actually sample anything, I truly appreciated the package. :)

Maybe next year I will have better luck with delivery ;)
