View Full Version : Help me build my two-stepping playlist!

Two-steppers and country music fans, please help! I want to put together a good playlist of music that's great for two-stepping, since I will be occasionally helping to teach an ongoing class, which will include running the class at times when the primary instructor can't make it. Of course, if you're a true two-stepper, then you know that it's possible to two-step to almost anything ;) but I figure I'd start with some of the more traditional options. The last time I two-stepped regularly was back in the mid- to late-90s, so I'm familiar with a lot of songs from that era (but please include them in your suggestions anyway because I've forgotten more than I remember!), but I'd like to include more recent music as well. And pace can range from slow romantic to "oh my god I can't breath trying to keep up with this" but somewhere in the middle might be best for the beginners I'll be teaching.

Thanks!

2. "Any Man of Mine" - Shania Twain

3. "Small Town Saturday Night" - Hal Ketchun

4. "Chatahoochie" - Alan Jackson

They're older songs but great for two steppin'

Hey BoDy*ShOt -- I love your song choice (Neon Moon) but I think the beat/tempo is better as a stationary cha-cha:

Brooks & Dunn -- Neon Moon

A couple 2-step favorites of mine are:

Fast tempo and happy 2-step:

Vince Gill -- Feels Like Love

Slow tempo and bittersweet 2-step:

Patty Loveless -- Last Thing On My Mind

Thanks! That's great!

Help a poor old woman and her failing memory ;): The other night (late, tired) I was listening to the country station while driving and there was a song I recognized (so it was probably from the 90's), female artist, somewhat melancholy tune, one word title that started with an O, and all I remember is trying to get Siri to recognize what I was saying as I tried to create a reminder to add it to my playlist and she really let me down. :) Anyone have any idea what it might have been?!?

If you can give me a line or two from the song. Or the refrain. Or at least what she was singing about. I can probably help.

DWM, do you have pandora radio?
If so, plug in some of the artists mentioned here, you'll find similar music. :):blueheels::dance1:

If I could remember that, then I could find it. I wrote to the Sirius Prime Country show and asked them to let me know what it was, since I know pretty much what time it was playing. And as soon as they tell me the name I'll probably be able to sing the whole song, but right now? My brain's giving me nothing.

I'm going to use this to remind myself of songs I want to include:

Shameless, Garth Brooks - great romantic song for a close, sultry dance.

Have you heard this artist (http://www.last.fm/music/Doug+Stevens+&+the+Outband)? He was very popular when I used to two-step several times a week. In the 90's, of course.

MCC - Twist and Shout - oh YEAH! I heard that the other day and then was upset to realize that unlike the device I had in my old car, my new car's integrated Sirius didn't allow me to rewind and play it over and over again! LOVE!

Hey DWM,

I haven't two-stepped in about 20 years but truly, little compares with how great it is to "drive" a girl around the dance floor on a warm summer night...

So, count me in if that's gonna happen down your way!
And you're right, there are tons of songs that lend themselves to a two-step. I think the Pandora idea is excellent; if you put in both pop and c/w but of the same tempo, you'll get back the same and that should broaden your play list.

Little Fish, join this meetup group to keep up with two-stepping opportunities down here: http://www.meetup.com/Gay-Women-Rehoboth/

There are apparently regular dances going on down here - one this Friday, though I'll be out of town. This may be the last one for a while because the venue they've been using is closing (Cloud 9), so they'll have to find a new location.

The lessons I'm going to be a part of are on Thursday nights (see the message boards), which I presume isn't an option for you, but hey, if it is, come on down!

Are you interested in west coast swing? Lessons in that the next two Saturdays, 11/3 and 11/10. I'm definitely staying in town for that - have wanted to learn that for a long time!!

I just checked and Woody's is still doing two-stepping on Fridays, though it looks like they're no long doing it on Sundays - when I was in Philly, I was frequently there twice a week with my boots on. :) If you haven't been 2-stepping in 20 years, I'm guessing that you haven't gone there but at least when I lived in Philly it was a great place to dance, plus the skill level of a lot of the guys there was just fantastic to watch.

I haven't two-stepped in forever (nobody knows how up here), but I think I had the most fun with "Forever and Ever, Amen" by Randy Travis - great spinning on the turns -
