Hey now! Nothing rounds out that toe like a nice sized orange or apple. Besides, it's good for you.

I don't really have a 'don't' list. I like finding weird and interesting things in my stocking. Well, except like clay, I would not like to find okra in there. No hot food, I'd say. Or maybe only very well packaged food.

Actually, truth be told, I look forward to the orange every year! I was also teasing about the leather cleaner/conditioner...although I do need some (for my car seats)...too big for a stocking.

My family always puts the simple stuff in the stockings....gum, hand sanitizer, toothbrush, etc... :D

Not: Dark chocolate or a gift certificate for a session of "colon hydro-therapy"

That would be a really sh*t gift.

For me, so long as my stocking contains a nice selection of chocolate (Butlers Chocolate from Ireland and Sees Candies), it's a good result. I'm usually not much of a chocoholic but really like chocolate over the Christmas period.

I always worry in case my mum decides to buy me a sweater.

I am a practical girl.... I come from a long line of people (okay just my mom but she has a big personality) who make stocking practicality an art form. I've been stuffing my own stocking for a while so...

Hot: socks (striped, fun designs, thinner not thick), chapstick (I loose many a year), scarf (they seem to be useful here), eye shadow, nail polish, toothbrush.

Not: candy, fruit, "present" like items.

What a fun thread!

I do not want:
Cheap soaps or lotions from WalMart or the Dollar Store that claim to be fruit scented but smell like cat piss. Cheap bags of stale nuts or seeds. Stupid, bright colored fuzzy socks. Earmuffs or gloves--not needed down here in Hell. Off brand lube- eeuuw. No hard candy or cheap, waxy chocolate shaped like Santa or other xmas themed things. Nothing with comical Xmas themes, like stupid pencils or goofy erasers. Nothing religious. Nothing frilly or impractical.

I would like:
A high quality nail trimmer, X-acto blades, small polished gem stones, British or French-made little jars of figgy or fruity stuff, good sharp pruning shears, cologne I actually like, tiny books, good quality paint pens with small points, Tiger Balm ointment, Tea tree oil, Carmex or Burt's Bees lip stuff, a few nice chocolate truffles, a tiny picture frame, travel sized toiletries, a small but bright flashlight, AA and AAA batteries, a traveling corkscrew, battery operated twinkly mini lights, TicTacs, some Elements ultra thin 1.25 rolling papers, and some old timey gags, like fake barf, rubber cockroaches or exploding cigarette loads. Okay, and maybe just a few M-80 firecrackers, like six or seven of them. Just in case...

I've gotten to that age where I really don't want anything. Factor in that I live in an RV, and what I'd really like is time with friends and family, and experiences.

Considering some of my Viking DNA, I would have to say I prefer my Swiss Army knife on my key chain (has a small magnifying glass - good for perhaps starting a fire - chuckling - and - reading the tiny tiny print on the vitamin bottle (hahaha); also the Phillips Head screwdriver - useful for a quickie need), also have a 2nd Swiss Army knife... :)

[I have the famous Viking disease potential, which has never fully developed - Dupuytren's contracture - which I have held in abeyance with meditation and Vitamin E. Hence, it doesn't at all look or appear that I have it, and have full use of all my fingers. :)]

I don`t want to see overpriced and over packaged gifts bought because someone felt they needed to spend money to celebrate the season.
I don`t want to see anything beauty related that has been tested on animals.
I don`t want to see lot`s of plastic packaging.
I don`t want to see piles and piles of gifts because I honestly have pretty much all I need.

I would like to see homemade gifts, either from the kitchen or the craft table.
I would like to see a few gently used, preowned books which I too can pass on when I have enjoyed them.
I would like to see a little stationary maybe.
And a little something vintage and curiously collectable would always be welcome.

What? They don't clear driveways, too?!? I think they do but I've only been asking about "snow removal," not specifically where it's removed from. I'll add "snow removal from driveways" to my list of questions.

If not, I'll just keep a large bag of salt in the garage for the driveway on snowy days.

Sometimes when the plow crews clear a parking lot, cars get jammed up with snow and they do NOT shovel that out for you. Maybe if you get one of those fancy $800/month HOA fee places they might but it's not normally done.

If you wind up at a place that has the condos laid out like suburban homes and your driveway is directly on the main road, you are going to have a pile at the very end of your driveway from their passes.

This is when you find kids advertising to shovel drive ways on bulletin boards and tear off one of those little tags. What you call child labor, they call enterprising!

Orrr, you can just buy a snow blower. They are FUN! And really affordable now. I found a battery operated Snow Joe on Amazon for a hair over $300. Well worth the money!

You and homoe are a wealth of snow information—thank you :)

Maybe I’ll get a blower next year but there’s nothin’ with the word snow that’s on my list this year.

One of my requirements is to live within delivery distance of a Costco or other superstores for those snowy days when I don’t want to leave the cave.

Thank you both for helping me refine my needs list for the new condo.

Something else I want to see in my stocking is some lemongrass, lavendar, cocconut scented bars of soap.

There's another option. Many of the smaller snow plow vendors take on residential clients and will remove snow on either a contractual basis or a per push (as needed) basis. I'm sure there are a ton of them where you're looking. The key is to get it set up in advance of the first snow. Not all vendors will be taking on new clients and not all vendors will work residential properties because the money lies in parking lots and big commercial properties.

You can build in requirements like having all of your driveways and doorways plowed/shoveled and for them to salt afterwards so the remaining bits leftover won't be icy and slippery for you. A lot of vendors use salt that is colored so it would be easy to see if they've dropped some, even if it's still snowing.

When you find another place that you like, ask them what their snow protocol is and what is their responsibility versus yours.

For thread compliance, I'd like to NOT see snow....at all...this season but that is sooo beyond unlikely (and not just because we've already had a snow storm here before Halloween) that maybe I would be happy with some warm jammie pants. Can't have enough of those here.
