Oh my gosh! This thread finally reminded me to look up one of my favourite shows from when I was a kid in Canada during the early 60's. If you can bear with the start and stop of it buffering, at least listen to the opening music. It sure brings back great memories for me! Thank you for this thread!

My father standing in my doorway, bare chested, bare footed, in his white boxers and flat top. (such a marine) He'd poke me with the broom bristles and say "Get up George.. Tojos wrestling this morning". He would walk around the house making "Tojo" sounds and tossing me around. He throw me in the air to the bed and I would jump him from behind off the couch. And of course we would break something, and of course it would wake mama, and of course she would scold us, and of course we would giggle.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tojo_Yamamoto

Saturday mornings were the times I had my dad to myself...he coached me in my junior bowling league, and then he and I would go out to breakfast.

On the Saturday's with no bowling, my sister and I would lay on the floor with a bowl of cereal and gorge on cartoons. The best part I think, was feeling happy as we heard the giggles coming from our parents room as they "slept in".

My memories of childhood Saturdays consist of either laying on the floor watching Might Mouse cartoons or helping with the housework! IF my mom felt like doing housework, EVERYONE had to ..LOL:seeingstars:

I have the same memories of Saturday's. In the afternoon we would watch old movies from the 30's and 40's while mom told me who everyone was, their life story, and who they were related to. She still does that to this day and I am grateful for it.

I used to look after my siblings and kept them quiet so we could watch cartoons as long as possible before our mom woke up and either sent us out to play or put us to housework. Sometimes I'd get up very early and go with my dad to his second, part time job and help him out there.

I used to get up way before my mom on Saturday mornings and go turn on our tiny black and white tv. I would sit or lie on the floor as close as I could so I could reach the knobs of the tv. I watched He-man, the littles, smurfs, scooby doo, kids incorporated, and I'm not sure about the others. I remember not wanting to watch the gi Joe cartoon or inspector gadget - those two annoyed me for some reason. Mom would get up when she felt like it. For a while she had an admirer, Jose, who came to call every Saturday morning with a box of donuts, and I would eat donuts and watch tv while they talked. The donuts and Jose are happy memories, but one morning Jose came over, and my mom said she had seen his wedding announcement in the paper and congratulated him. After that, he stopped coming over and I had no more Saturday morning donuts. Then when I turned 7, I ended up going to string project on Saturday mornings, which was a free orchestra program for kids. I played the cello there and it was alright. Mom would pack a picnic lunch, and after string project, we would find a nice place to sit out under the trees and enjoy our lunch.

Even tho there were good cartoons to watch, I was always a little sad that Captain Kangaroo and the gang wasn't around on Saturday mornings :sigh:

Getting my hair washed while leaning over the kitchen sink. Always water in my eyes! Then wearing my hair up in pig tails with the pink sponge curlers, all.day.long.

I wasn't the only one, my best friend wore them too. I did have the prettiest ringlet ponytails for Church come Sunday morning.
