I thought this would be a fun thread. Have you ever met a celebrity? If so, share your stories here!

I went to the book-signing for Ethan Hawke's second book. He read a bit of it for us, and right there in the middle of his reading was a cheap fat joke. He lost me at that point - I just went from thinking he was awesome (largely due to his role in dead poet's society) to thinking he was a douche. So then the book-signing part happened. My mother and ex-husband were with me. His (Ethan's) hair looked really greasy, and my mom turned to me at one point and said, "I bet you anything he doesn't smell like shampoo."

So eventually it was my turn to have my book signed. As he was signing it, I said to him, "I hope you're not as fatphobic as your character." This left him flustered, then he asked if I'd read the book and I admitted I hadn't. He said I should give it a chance, that the character about which the fat joke was made was really pretty good. I said I would. As I turned to leave, he called out to me, "God bless you!" As if.

My mother was mortified.

Sidenote: I had a few weeks before bought a bumper sticker that said, "Well-behaved women rarely make history," and I'd stuck it on the bumper of my then-husband's car. It was sort of a prank, but he hadn't until this time let on that he'd noticed. But on the way back to the car, after parting with my mom, I fretted a bit about embarrassing her. And he leaned in and said, "You know what they say - well-behaved women rarely make history."

Later in the week, I stayed up reading Ethan Hawke's book in the bath. I didn't make much of a dent. When I went to bed, I placed the book on the rarely-closed toilet-lid. In the middle of the night, I woke up needing to pee. I didn't feel like turning on the light - heck, I knew where things were. So I blindly went in there, turned around, sat down and peed all over Ethan Hawke's signed book.

I never finished reading it.

I think if I had it to do over, I would have probably not addressed it. Or I would have addressed it differently. But, as far as I know, he's the only celebrity I've met. And that's the story.

I got to meet Carol Burnett a number of years ago. I have always loved her, so it was quite a thrill. My partner at the time's cousin's husband is a vet in Manhattan. Carol was appearing in the Broadway play Moon Over Buffalo, and he was the vet for her cat. She gave him tickets to the play and several of us family members went. After the play we got to meet Carol backstage. She was very nice and just like she seems on tv. Her cat was there in a fancy cat carrier. At one point she asked the vet what his little girl's name was. He told her Greer. One of the character's in the play was the actress Greer Garson. Carol let out her characteristic squeal. It was very cool to meet her.

I was in the audience of the Phil Donahue show many years ago, and got to shake his hand.

I met the 1960 World chess champion Mikhail Tal at a tournament back when I played competitive chess. He signed one of my scoresheets of a game I won :).

But the best story wasn't me, it was my sister-in-law. In the 1970's she worked at a department store in Carmel, California. One day, then-mayor Clint Eastwood came in and asked her where the towels were. All she could say was "..Hi...". She said he laughed, and was a very nice man (what happened?).

In 1982, I met Johnny Rotten, the sneering orange-haired lead singer of the Sex Pistols (though he was in PiL at the time). I was 19 years old, and thought I was the coolest punk in Atlanta for scoring the backstage pass and getting access to the father of punk rock. Except when it was my turn to meet him, I went completely starstruck. I never said a word... I simply handed him my ticket for him to autograph, my eyes as big as saucers.

He briefly evaluated me, flashed his trademark smirk, and autographed my ticket. He never said a word to me either, and I consider it a kindness on his part: the tiniest insult (no matter how typical of him, or deserved by me) would have reduced me to tears, I'm sure.

I've met or crossed paths with a lot of musicians because for many years all my discretionary income went to going to hear live music. We're talking two to three shows a week. But I am shy, so the encounters are not worth talking about. Just this last June, I ran into Joe Ely on a plane from San Jose to Dallas. He had been playing at the Monterey Americana Festival. I am a huge fan, so that was a thrill. He was nice when I spoke to him. I usually don't do that, but I've seen him play many times so I just did. Anyway, he was cool.

He travels alone and in coach. Not that glamorous a life by the look of it.

I was looking for a pic and found this. I guess Springsteen likes him too. Bruce must be a hugger. I recently saw a video in which he hugged Neil Young. Neil looked pained. His face is sort of set that way, so it's hard to say, but it was awkward for sure.

I was doing a photo shoot at a cutting horse event in Dallas so I parked my trailer near the entrance gate so I wouldbe close to my equipment plus set things up for folks to see the proofs incase they wanted to purchase pictures. As the night went one I went to bed about 10pm cause it was going to be a long early day the next day.During the night another trailr parked beside me,they mede so much noise I just turned around then pulled the cover over my head wishing they would get things put together then get quite so could get back to sleep. So at 5a.m. I got up t go take some random shots as I usely do,so I steped out of my trailer looking like I should be on a fishing boat insted of a horse even(I changed later) there sat Lynn Anderson siting by her trailer drinking coffee she offered me a cup wich I gladly took.We cxhated a bit so I left to go do my thing she thanked me for not being a crazie photogerpher chaseing pictures.I smiled then told her to injoy her day.I did get pics later at her request for the show.I said wow.You would be surprised at how many stars show horses or do some kind of horse related thing.

I met Cyndi Lauper, twice. First time we shook hands and I handed her a letter I had written her about how influential she had been for me in my youth. The second time, I (and many others, including my daughter) were invited to dance on stage with her for one song at an outdoor show. My legs were shaking, I was so nervous and excited! I have a picture of it that someone from the crowd took and I treasure it.

I met Alice Walker, in Harlem, at a book reading. We shook hands. I cried.

I have spent time with Leslie Fienberg and Minnie Bruce Pratt (famous in our circles!) First we were emailing as I was trying to arrange them to come to a talk at my college. Then I saw them at Pride in NYC and introduced myself and Leslie said, right in front of everyone "I just emailed you this morning!" and that made me feel very important. Mind you, this was in the early 90s when email was not a constant form of communication, so it was even more special. I arranged the talk and got to spend a brief time with them before and after the talk, as well as having the honor of introducing Leslie before the talk.

I met Rachel Ray. That was weird. She was with her husband, who was really weird. His band was opening for my friends band.

I have met, and trained with, Dr. Andrew Weil and Deepak Chopera.

This was many moons ago when I lived and worked in Atlanta. I along with a group if others went to see the Hawks play at the Omni, which isn't the Omni anymore. I was coming out of the restroom and literally ran into Ted Turner. I almost knocked him down. He is short and his security team treated me like I was out to kill him.

For Gods sake I just wanted to get back to the game.

I met him yrs later in North Ga where he owns a horse ranch, well he did not sure if he does anymore. He at the time was dating a local woman and was out and about with him

During my travels I have ran across different types of celebrities. The one other then TT was "Catus Jack" of wrestling fame. It was in south Ga at a fuel stop he was heading to Savannah for a match and I was driving to who knows where. I said to him hey u look just like "Catus Jack". He said no not me. I said oh I'm sorry and walked away. We both were in line and the cashier said the same thing and he gave the same answer. Then he asked for his coffee to be free. She told him they only gave police or troopers coffee for free. He goes do u know who I am?!! She said guess a bum wanting free coffee. Everyone in line just laughed he didn't. I think if he hadn't been a jerk to ppl he would have gotten the coffee for free.

I will come back later with others and those stories as well

I met Jackie Warner of "Work Out" while drinking with some friends in LA. I literally bumped into her at the bar while trying to order a drink. She could tell I recognized her from the look on my face and told me "It's cool, the bar is so crowded." I was kinda shocked how much she was drinking, given how healthy she was...

I said hello and made some shy small talk about the bar being packed. Jackie just kind of glared at me and said that I'd be "shit hot" if I put a little more meat and muscle on my bones. Feeling a little judged, I replied "Maybe you should man up and train me then, Jackie."

She threw her head back, laughed and said she was done showing girls the ropes. Again, feeling judged, I said "I'm not one of your green TV girlfriends who thinks dating dyke-style is the trendy thing. You won't have to show me a thing".

Then, I grabbed my drink and went back to my friends. Later, when she left, Jackie shot me a wave and a sly smile. That was really cool...and damn, if she wasn't looking shit hot herself.

The "celebrities" I've met have been mostly B-listers, I guess you'd say.

I hung out with Bitch & Animal after a show one night, which was a lot of fun..oddly Animal was the bitchy one.

My friend works for 3 Doors Down, and we got to hang out on the roof of a theater after a show, which was cool. I really don't like their music much, but they're cool guys.

I met the guy who played Tom in Office Space and the preacher in Fried Green Tomatoes at a gay bar once. He was so shocked I recognized him, he bought me a drink LOL Sweet guy.

One time my friend and I bluffed our way into the green room at a KD Lang concert. We didn't see KD though; they kicked us out pretty quickly.

And lastly, I sat in front of Chris Hansen (Dateline, To Catch a Predator) on a plane from NYC to Minneapolis. I have no idea what he was doing in coach. I felt like it would be awkward to say something, so I just kept stealing glances between the seat. LOL Which wasn't awkward at all, right?

Not actually 'met' but seen around in the tiny Sussex town in which we live Tom Baker of Dr. Who fame, Paul McCartney, and Roger Daltrey, all of whom are locals (though I did meet McCartney on a train many, many moons ag0 when I was commuting every day to London). Most recently though, George Clooney whilst he was filming his latest movie (Monument Men), part of which was filmed in the town, and the actor Tom Conti who was in the shop next to ours shopping for - if my memory serves me correctly - an umbrella stand.

Unfortunately, the only real 'celebrities' I've actually met were all high ranking Palestinian and Israeli officials (Arafat, Peres, and Netanyahu, amongst others). Sounds exciting, but believe me, it wasn't.

Crikey! Met a few I suppose.

Had a conversation about parachuting with Prince Charles at a Prince's Trust week.
Played in the band that Phil Collins was leading for the above mentioned week.
Got to fight with Brian Jacks (GB Olympic medallist in judo)
Had a lovely conversation about guitars with George Hamilton IV when getting his autograph.
Had my first guitar brought from Spain for me by John Walker, of Walker Bros. fame
Got a selfie with Vicky Entwistle (Janice Battersby in Coronation Street- longest running UK TV soap) a couple of years ago. She was lovely to chat with.
Regularly used to see Victoria Wood in Lancaster Sainsburys when I lived there.

I use to spend my summer vacations at a small cabin resort in Michigan owned by a butch-femme couple, who were also good friends of my parents for many years. Unbeknown to me, crazy rocker Ted Nugent, who had become popular recording the songs Cat Scratch Fever, Stranglehold, etc. adopted them as his parents, and even called them Ma and Pa, even though publicly, he denounces gays. So, when I arrived there one summer after returning from the MichiganWomen'sFestival, he was there jamming in a cottage, and greeted me warmly. I am not into hunting, or eating animals, so the next morning, when I stepped out of my cabin, a giant hog was dead, laying right there! I ran to "Ma" upset about it, and she said he hunts alot, and was only trying to be nice. I left the next morning. Now I hear his hunting and sportsmen magazines have become popular...

Guess I have met several folks over the years....

I used to be extremely active in Democratic politics in Omaha NE years ago. I was one of the State Chairs of the John Glenn for President campaign. After he and his wife Annie came to Omaha for a fundraiser, we were driving them back to the airport the next day. When Sen Glenn got out of the car, he came around to get his bags out and my 2 sons were there peeking over the seat. He whispered to them "Do you want to see the inside of my jet?" they screamed YES! We all got to climb into his private Lear jet. He and his wife then signed autographs for the kids, which they still have.

I also worked closely with the mayor of Omaha, and my boys thought he walked on water. I used to goad them into cleaning up their toys from the front porch and yard by telling them "Mayor Mike might be coming over!"

I have worked with several Democratic figures over the years, and have met (and worked for) Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and several others.

Entertainment people-wise, I was working on an assignment once in Memphis, and was staying at the Omni hotel. I had gotten into the elevator to go to my room once, and before the doors closed 2 huge men walked in, followed by Michael Jordan. I am tall, but dayum these guys were HUGE! I just stammered out a Hi, how are you. MJ just smiled big. If I would have had a pen I would've asked for his autograph. He was in Memphis for the St Jude golf classic. At the same hotel, I sat and talked one night to Jim Nabors. Really nice guy!

Now, in a blatant play here on the planet, I can also claim that I have had Medusa and Jackhammer over to our house for BBQ! LOL

I didn’t actually get to meet Lily Tomlin when she performed in 1982 at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee but I did get her autograph. After her show, we drove up to the Pfister Hotel a few blocks away and waited to see if she would arrive. At that time it was common knowledge that most entertainers who came to town were put up there. Sure enough she did and I got her to autograph the Play Bill.

I work in politics, so all my "celebrities" are politicians:

Jennifer Granholm, former governor of Michigan, you see her on Meet the Press or MSNBC from time to time. I worked as her deputy press secretary, traveling press secretary and speechwriter in her first term as governor.

Bill Clinton
Al Gore
Barack Obama (when he was a US Senator)
Hillary Clinton
John Edwards (the cheating husband politician)
Mike Huckabee (the crazy right-wing guy...I met him at a health care event -- he actually supports universal health care -- and he and his daughter were very kind to me, actually)

I've also met a few famous media types, and the nicest one was Paula Zahn -- I met her at a Clinton-Gore campaign event during her CBS News days. And she's really short.

And, someone mentioned Ted Nugent. Ted and I have had "spirited discussions" in the media -- me as an agency spokesperson and him as, well, Ted the Hunter. He told one reporter, who is a friend of mine, that I am a "brainless bureaucrat." I wear it as a badge of honor.

I spent many years working various jobs at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY. And one of my more fond memories was of meeting Sonia Rutstein of Disappear Fear. I was working as assistant performer liaison that year, and my job was to help arrange transit for the performers to and from hotels, the airport and the venue. A call came in that Sonia and her party would need a ride from the hotel to the venue. So bright and early me and the driver of the van set off for the hotel. We arrive to find the group standing outside with their gear looking like zombies due to lack of sleep. They loaded the gear and settled in the back of the van. Every one of them looked about to pass out. I piped up that we passed a Dunkin Donuts on the way in and could stop on the way back to get coffee if they would like. Sonia sat bolt upright and squealed, "OMG, Dunkin Donuts?!?!?! I fucking LOVE Dunkin Donuts coffee, please, please, please can we stop??". I replied that we definitely could and jokingly said, how could I deny a woman her Dunkin Donuts. She jumped up out of the seat, and totally snatched me in a hug, and kissed my cheek repeatedly and told me she absolutely LOVED me for it and could just about hump my leg.:freak:

Okay, here are mine:

1999 - I was working at G. Fox before it became Macy's. James Van Der Beek (of "Dawson" fame, who is a Connecticut resident) wandered in looking for a tie to wear to his premiere. I said, "You look just like Dawson!" He said, "I am Dawson!" I started trembling like a ninny and ran to get my datebook. I asked him for his autograph. The only reason I ended up watching his show was because of that encounter.

2005 - Waiting in line for an entire day to meet Tori Amos. I was third in line. When I finally got to talk with her, I managed to babble incoherently about how she healed me through her music. She said, "It was you who did the healing" and she posed with me for a picture. I still have it in my purse. :)

2011 - I never realized Juliette Lewis was a singer until my then-partner told me. As a surprise for her birthday, I got tickets to see her performance in North Carolina (where we were living at the time). We sat third row and after the show, did a meet-and-greet. Trying to get Juliette's attention for my then-partner (who was painfully shy to meet her), I ended up confusing Juliette and having the most God-awful, hideous picture of myself ever taken (with Juliette but she looked fine lol!). My then-partner finally got her picture taken after we waited in line.

After that, a group of us went to the bar down the street to hang out and who should show up but Juliette and her crew. I talked to Juliette for a bit and got to know her bassist, Japanese solo artist, Shirley To. (She said she loved my hair and Shirley and I still talk on Facebook from time to time.) Meanwhile, at the end of the night, Juliette walked up to our table and gave my then-partner and I huge hugs goodbye. We were so drunk at the time neither of us believed it really happened until our friends confirmed it the next day. Amazing experience!

A long long time ago, probably 1973ish, (totally dating myself here, which I would never actually do because I would drive myself crazy, but I digress . . .) I used to love hockey and (or more accurately) hockey players. My friends and I used to hang out at the arenas before the games, wait for the players, and get autographs.

One weekend, the Bruins were in town. A friend of a friend’s dad wrote the sports column for the local paper, and he told her which hotel the Bruins were staying at. So there we were on Sunday morning waiting for a glimpse of Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson.

Bobby Orr came out, (wearing a pink shirt, as I recall) cheerfully signed autographs, and got on the bus. We were hanging around waiting for Derek Sanderson, when this man started talking to me. He asked me who my favourite Bruins were, and I said Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson. He asked why, and I said they were cute (or something equally insipid). Then he asked what I thought of Phil Esposito. I said I had no idea who that was. He held out his hand and said, “Hi, I’m Phil Esposito”. He was very sweet, and gave me his autograph.

Oh, and Derek Sanderson? He eventually came out, wouldn’t talk to anyone, and got on the bus. Broke my little teenage heart.

i recently met all of the Indy Car drivers at an event in Baltimore two nights before the race. It was a dinner for fans and Indy car supporters. i found Simona De Silvestro very interesting as well as Helio Castroneves. i was not sure i would have a good time as i am not really the fan. It turned out to be a fine evening.

When I was in Las Vegas checking in at Bally's (we had VIP check-in because of my step father) and I turned around, behind me in line was Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I just smiled and turned back around. BTW - he is quite short. Maria was beautiful and pregnant.

I was in the Casino with Andrew Dice Clay (No desire to meet him). We were both shooting craps, but he was at a different table. That same trip, my folks shot craps with Rodney Dangerfield at Caesars.

Many moons ago I went to collect my sister and her friend from a Jefferson Starship concert and they got wind that the band was going to be staying at the Hilton here in Lansing, so off we went to find them. So we snuck into the Playboy Club (yes, we had the last one in existence right here) and got Craig Chaquico's autograph (the guitar player) before they threw us all out. No luck finding Grace Slick which is the only reason I cared at all. On the way out we ran into one of their opening band's (Aldo Nova) members, but I couldn't tell you who, and chatted with him for a bit.

Of course as a Michigander, I also ran into Ted Nugent at a 7-11 (he was buying a slurpee - I was playing Ms. Pacman after school).

I never met him, but I flew in John Waters for our Pride March.

I have also met Mimi Gonzales (lesbian comedian), she dated a friend of mine, if anyone knows who she is.

Well that's all the name dropping I got for ya.

I met "Weird" Al Yankovic when I was about 14 or 15. He did a concert at what is now Six Flags New England (but was then Riverside Park). It was a horrible rainy night and everyone left pretty quickly. My BFF was determined we would meet him, and the kindly security guard let us in so we could :) He's much sweeter and quieter than his persona...

I also met Paul "Mr. Wonderful" Orndorff, a former WWF wrestler (when WWF still WAS WWF) Yes. I liked wrestling. A long long time ago. My step-father was a fan and I developed a taste for it...and football....luckily, only one of them stuck.. :)

Vanna White I met in a hotel elevator when I was 10 . It was her , my brother and parents in the levator and my dad said " kids we are in the elevator with the wheel of futune letter turner ".
Thank God I was ten or I'd be embarrassed that my pops said that .
I looked at her and said " wow you're pretty , will you say hi to me on that show ".
I wonder if she did ? She was pretty though .

I sat by Anthony Munoz and Pete Rose at a Reds game and they signed my baseball hat . Too bad it wasn't a reds hat haha.

I met and got to spend 3 hours with one of my favorite coaches of all time Mr Lou Holtz when I was 16 . He gave me a tour of notre dame campus, took me to the locker room and let me smack the good luck play like a champion today sign and run out of the tunnel on the field !!!
He gave me a signed four Leif clover in a laminated peice . This was one of the greatest days of my life.

I got to eat dinner with Alabama and they are the nicest men I've ever met . Very sweet folks.
I met George Jones and his wife , Conway twitty ( he was a jerk to us ),

Lol I got to meet vanilla ice haha .

A friend of mine is the nephew of billy ray Cyrus drummer and so I met Cyrus who was pretty cool .

That's it :)

I will continue reading more of your posts tomorrow but I wanna play and add mine before I fall asleep.

I will start with an early on celeb meet... I was 6yo and was a guest on the Bozo Big Top Show.. I managed to be called up for "three" different games that day. A rarity!! By the time my number was called for the third time Bozo said that we just had to be forever friends since I pretty much shared the day with him.

BTW I did lousy with my game play but I became friends with Bozo that day!! Does this count?? Huh?? :cheesy:

OMFG! JEALOUS!!! Love me some Bruins especially Bobby Orr...and furthermore, would about mess myself to have met Tim Thomas when he wore the spoked B. Or Willie O'Ree...but sadly he was way before my time.

I'm kind of jealous about Tom Baker. He was my very first Doctor. I remember being 10 or 11 and our local public television station would show classic Doctor Who episodes on the weekends and I'd stay up watching until my mom realized I was awake and sent me to bed!

I've met quite a few musicians in my concertgoing days. I also got the extreme pleasure of meeting John Barrowman (Torchwood/Doctor Who) at a comic book convention a couple years back.

I am a big nerd, so most of my celebrity run ins are from sci fi conventions!

My favorite was Amy Okuda and Robin Thorsen from a web series called The Guild. I was so excited I could hardly talk, but I got through it with a photo and a few autographs they were awesome!

At that same convention I met Billy Dee Williams, and the guy who played Anakin Skywalker (the kid version) also the guy who was Chewbacca.

My favorite was Felix Silla, he is the guy who played cousin it in the original Adams Family (the series). I didn't realize I was meeting him, I was dressed up in a costume ( a pink furry fox costume) and he was on his way to the bathroom. He was walking right beside me and I didnt notice (he is a little person) and I turned, and accidentally hit him in the head with my tail. I was so embarrassed! He was super cool about it though and it made me more mindful of where i'm swinin that tail ;)

Gosh, I've met a few celebrities, but was never mindful enough to get an autograph...

Under sixteen: I met Dr. Sanguinary of Creature Feature fame. My parents drove me to a local fish shop where he was hosting some kind of marathon so that I could meet him. Dang was he nice.

Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mad Dog Vshaun (sic) and another wrestler whose name slips my mind. My family were friends with a guy that knew them so we were able to meet them when they visited my dads friends. I think my brother got to "wrestle" with one of them.

Over sixteen: I lived in England for several years (five) and met Eliot Gould who was performing at our Air Force base. I met Barbara Streisand that same year who was working on Yentl, it was brief but I was starstruck. I met Adam Ant at Picadilly circus where he was doing an interview, all I can remember about that was telling him I loved how he did his hair which made him laugh. I met worzel Gummidge, who was played by Jon Pertwee of Dr. Who fame, and like others, I prefer Tom Baker myself. I also met Nick Mason of Pink Floyd while they were working up the movie The Wall, not really met, but we were in the same shop in London at the time and he was allowed to the front of the line right when it was my turn, and he asked if it was alright. I couldn't even talk, I just nodded, I wonder still if he noticed I had a Juice Newton album and a Rush 2112 album in my hand. I met Margaret Thatcher in London and there were hundreds of people there at #1 Downing Street hoping to see her and when she came past, she shook our hands. Such a strong woman for all of the things that had to be done.

And that's all that I know of. Now I have seen Warren Buffet a few times, we live in the same city, but never really "met" him. His aunt was quite famous here in Omaha and I've met her many times. I've also met Chip Davis and his group Mannheim Steamroller, they live and record here in Omaha.

Tim Noah (local kid entertainer)
Avner the Eccentric (performer)

They all have stories, but I'm too tired to write them out. Maybe another day. :-)

Which totally reminds me: I have met and worked with Jackson Berkey of Mannheim Steamroller. His wife, Almeda, too! :)

Another famous person I've met and sang with is pop star Bonnie McKee. If you don't know her name, you have likely heard her music. She co-wrote a lot of Katy Perry's popular songs (Firework, California Gurls, etc.) and had a single out this summer (American Girl). I knew her before she was famous, but not very well. We sang in the same choir together when we were younger and I first met her at one of our choir's anniversary concerts.

Good times. :)

I have met quite a few famous people so here is a list of highlights:

I had a friend, Rex, who used to work for a record label. We got backstage passes because of this, so from that I met:
Todd Rungren
Peter Gabriel
Phil Collins

Heather McAllister- I met her through a girl we both dated and we hit it off and became friends. Heather later because a famous fat activist and burlesque performer and was photographed by Leonard Nimoy.

Laurie Anderson, Performance artist- My friend Heather was very active in the queer community in Ann Arbor she came to a party I was at after her show.

Karen Finley, Performance artist- through my friend Heather in Ann Arbor

Leontyne Price - I was in a youth symphony and we rehearsed and played with her.

Itzhak Perlman- I was in a youth symphony and we rehearsed and played with him

Trent Rezner of 9 Inch Nails- My friend Tony opened for him before "Pretty Hate Machine" took off. He came to my house and threw up on my white floor pillow, ew.

Al Jourgenson of Ministry, Revolting Cocks etc. - we were at a party together and did tequila body shots off the same girl. heh that was a fun night

Dennis White of Charm Farm and now is DJ Static Revenger but he was just Dennis White when I knew him. He was close friends with my brother and so I saw him hanging about before and after they went carousing.

The ever popular stalking around backstage has yielded some interesting famous people meeting. . .
Nina Simone
Etta James
Ray Charles

Anise Parker, mayor of Houston- I met her for a moment at a political function

The Indigo Girls- , got thrown off their tour bus because my ex (the crazy Russian) offended one or the other of them.

I insulted Andy Bell of Erasure because he was a dick at a party I went to and I didn't know, or care, who he was. I do like their music though.

Buck Angel- had dinner with he and his wife Elayne. They were friends of a guy I used to date and were in town. I hadn't seen or even heard of any of his porn before we had dinner so I had no idea he was famous.

Oh, that reminds me, I had met Etta James as well. She was performing at a military something or other and I was helping doing a set-up for the dining hall at the NCO club at Mildenhall RAF in England. I was stacking champagne glasses when her entourage came in and started to take seats. I went to take up coats and she had a fur thing and took my hand and told me how it was to be stored, not hung. I noticed her eyes were yellowish like many older women and men of colour. When I hung them all up and put her fur away I went back to move the champagne glasses and she called me over and said she would dedicate a song to me (as a tip I think). I stayed for a few songs and ended up buying one of her bawdier albums later that year.

This was in the days when the Dodge poetry festival was still held in Waterloo, I was sitting in the tent and Mark Doty snuck up to me and quietly asked if he could sit with me and then asked if I would also save a seat for Stanley Kunitz......sometimes life is just extraordinarily grand!

The most recent celeb we have met was NY Yankee Mariano Rivera. We were at Bath & Body at the mall , he was in the back of the store checking out the scents when we spotted him. When we were finished checking out turned around and there he was right in front of my face. He noticed my chain and Yankee pendant and said it was really nice and thanked us for being fans. Caught me off guard. lol

Since we live near Clearwater we always see Hulk Hogan around town. He is always great.

Met Eddie Money after a show, he wasn't very nice, actually a complete ass

I used to get to go to school with Jeremy Jackson from Bay Watch . He wasn't in the show yet , but had parts on soaps. I remember him being a brat and kicking me in the leg. He begged me not to tell on him so his mom wouldn't take away his surf lessons . I guess he needed those surf lessons for work.
It must be hard being the bread winner when you are just a little kid yourself.

John Travolta was very nice and talked to us for awhile. We were all of about 14 or 15 and star struck.

In 1982, I met Kate Pierson of the B-52s, after first pinching her ass. Here's the back story:

I was at a tiny hole-in-the-wall club, maybe 50 people in the audience, which made the place feel pretty packed. The woman in front of me was wearing this white backless form fitting dress with these small white pom poms all over the dress, each spaced out a few inches from the next pom pom. The guy next to me was pretty excited by the woman in front of me, but wouldn't talk to her. Instead, he kept pointing at her, and yelling at me, "That's tape! That's TAPE!!"

Or so I thought. What he was really yelling, of course, was "That's KATE!" At the time, though, I thought he was trying to tell me this woman's dress was made of tape, so what did I do? I bent down for a closer inspection. It didn't look like tape, and I yelled that back... but he was even more frantic at this point, exaggeratedly pointing at her, and continued to mouth (I thought) "THAT'S TAPE!!"

So I bent back down, my head about 4 inches from her ass (because the club was so dark, you know), and just to be sure, I reached out and carefully pinched one of the pom poms on Kate Pierson's ass. When I stood back up, I informed him, "NO! I think it's COTTON!!" but to no avail. The poor guy was bent over double laughing at what I'd just done.

After the show, I met Kate, and of course realized then what the guy had been trying to tell me. I didn't mention the communication misfire to her, and if she was ever aware I had pinched her ass, she didn't mention that either.

Years ago, back in the late 1990s, I leased my own hair station in a gay friendly sector of my metro area. I shared a station with another practitioner; she worked four days, I worked the other three. It was on one of the days, where we both switched out on the same day (Wednesday) and she was running behind schedule and asked me if I would take on a last minute client of hers, who just happened to be in town. That client turned out to be Cindy Williams of Laverne & Shirley tv fame. She was a very interesting, down to earth person. She shared with all of us, in our close quarters salon that the one reason she loved coming to get her hair done at our salon was because it wasn't a well discovered place for other people of celebrity status to be found. I listened quietly while she conversed with our salon owner, whom she happened to know personally (they grew up together).

Those were the days, back then. I really enjoyed my time at that salon while sharing a station with another hair dresser. Every practitioner in our salon represented a sector across the LGBTQ spectrum. Fond memories I have of those years, spanning the 1990s.

I met Roberto Fonseca (pianist) after a concert. He took a photo with the group I was with and was gracious and kind to us.

I used to run into Ruth Gordon when I lived in NYC in the late 1970s. I saw her at least 3 times walking down the street.

I saw Red Buttons coming out of a restaurant as I was going in.

I saw Mickey Rooney going up the escalator as I was going down one.

I was a client coordinator (i.e., book appts) at a video post production facility in the mid 1980s and used to book chyron editing sessions for Michael Jackson and Tony Bennett. I never saw them because they only came to the studio in the middle of the night.

when I worked at Video Visions in Milwaukee (this was after she was released from prison).
Lawrencia Ann "Bambi" Bembenek, known as Laurie Bembenek, a former police officer convicted of murdering her husband's ex-wife. Her story garnered national attention after she escaped from Taycheedah Correctional Institution and was recaptured in Canada, an episode which inspired books, movies and the slogan "Run, Bambi, Run". A re-investigation of the case followed, and in December 1992 a judge reduced Ms. Bembenek’s life sentence to 20 years after she struck a deal with prosecutors in which she pleaded no contest to second-degree murder. She was immediately released for time served.

On November 20, 2010, Bembenek died at a hospice facility in Portland, Oregon at the age of 52

I was passing through Chicago (I assume it was O'Hare) when Oprah and her entourage passed by. I remember she was wearing a big fur coat. I had just been in a shop that had a mag with her photo on the front page. I was looking at the mag in the shop and then looking at her and I was like what the heck. At the time she was such a new celebrity I wasn't even sure how her name was pronounced. I am not an autograph hound but it would be hard to run down a celebrity and ask for an autograph when you can't even say their name.

My wife and I are huge fans of the musical group 'Cowboy Junkies', a band from Canada. We attended a concert in Chicago wherein post concert the lead singer was out and about in the lobby just making conversation with us. My ex and I use to go to Nashville for the yearly Fan Fair. We met so many stars and got pics and autographs and many live shows it was great. We had the luck to meet and greet: Loretta Lynn , Conway Twitty (we went to his fan party and it was great at his place), George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Tanya Tucker, Reba Macintyre, Charley Pride, Minnie Pearl, so many many more. We went for 6 years and always met different ones each time.
We then went to Dollywood and had a great time although Dolly was not there and another year we went to Memphis and went into Elvis's house and walked around and bought some things I still have.
Her brother lived in Texas so we went there for Xmas and it was really nice. Went on the River Walk and visited the Alamo. We then left and went to Nashville for New Years. Fabulous.

I met Kathy Najimy backstage at a March on Washington. (I don't remember which one or the year, but it was one where the Names Project quilts were spread out over the Mall). The chorus I was in (The Atlanta Feminist Women's Chorus) performed. She was very nice and cutie-cute-cute as always. I was a dumba**, as usual when I meet famous people. I think all I said was, "I just love your show!" (It was not too long after The Kathy and Moe Show came out on video. Way before Disney and all that.)
